The steel brake lines from the master cylinder back along the frame rail on my gmc 2500hd rusted through and failed the other day, causing pressure and fluid loss, fortunately while traveling at a slow speed close to home. of the various vehicles owned over the years, this is the first time i have had a steel brake line rust through like this. *tr

The brake petal went soft, the brake system lost pressure, major brake fluid leak from metal line(s) adjacent to the abs pump/module assy. subsequent inspection revealed that all of the metal brake line(s), (pipes), were heavily rusted at the point where they are routed above the vehicle frame, approximately 18 in front of the abs pump assy.

Was coming to a stop sign and had total brake failure. luckily i was the only one on the road and able to keep control of the vehicle and limp it back home. could have been much worse. found rusted brakes lines under the truck just spraying fluid when the brakes are applied. needs all new brake lines from front to back. have found many complaints about this online. gm should recall these vehicles as they are not safe!

Tl-the contact owns a 2001 gmc sierra 2500 hd. the contact stated that his vehicle had previously been serviced for an unknown front wheel speed sensor recall by an authorized dealer. the contact stated that the abs and brake lights illuminated on the dashboard and the stopping distance of the vehicle was increased. the recall remedy was supposed to fix the stopping distance and get the service lights to stop illuminating on the dashboard. upon receiving the vehicle from the authorized dealer the abs and brake lights continued to illuminate on the dashboard. the vehicle was taken back to the authorized dealer where the brakes were checked and lubricated. the failure continues to recur and the contact stated that while driving on rough surfaces the stopping distance was increased. the failure mileage was 160,000 and the current mileage was 183,000. sm.

Tl*the contact owns a 2001 gmc sierra 2500 hd. the vehicle was repaired per recall 05v379000 component: service brakes, hydraulic: antilock on october, 25, 2007; however, the failure recurred on august 19, 2009. while driving 45 mph, he noticed that the abs system activated without warning. the contact was required to pay $300 to have the vehicle repaired. report 71-752849960 was filed with the manufacturer who confirmed that they would not assist with the repair because the vehicle was too old. the failure mileage was 30,000 and the current mileage was 45,100.

I use my truck to pull a 5th wheel camper. when i started to check it out this year, i noticed a funny shift pattern and a growl with temporary brake loss at approx. 4 mi. pre hr or less. i took the truck in for repair and they sent me to a gm dealer to have the tcm reflashed. that fixed the shift harshness. after leaving dealership i noticed the growling again. it is not every time i apply the brakes, but i am afraid that i will end up loosing the brakes long enough to hit another vehicle. after doing extensive internet studies i found that this vehicle should be included in a recall that is for the exact same symptoms. i called 2 dealerships but was told that my vin was not part of the recall. i was told that they were recalled because of defective parts used only on specific vin numbered vehicles. i asked that if this is true then why is my part failing in the exact same manner if it is not defective. i was told by the service tech. that this was a good question and he would call gm to see if my truck qualified. apparently not or i wouldn't be filing this. my research also showed another complaint exactly the same as mine on this site (november 10, 2006 odi id number : 10173313). please let me know what to do from here. *tr

Dt*: the contact stated the anti lock brakes failed to function properly. the abs system would engage while traveling 4 mph, causing a loss of brakes for a few seconds before returning to normal. the service dealer and manufacturer were notified and both informed the contact that the vehicle was not included in nhtsa recall #05v379000 for the service brakes, hydraulic: antilock due to the vin.
