Was traveling on a straight stretch of road approaching a red light. as i attempted to apply the brakes the brake pedal went straight to the floor - the vehicle would not stop. i then dropped the transmission from d or drive to l1, engaged the tow setting of the transmission, and applied the parking brakes while maintaining the parking disengagement lever in the up position in order to stop the truck. the brakes failed. gm dealership confirmed that the brake lines had rusted through. the entire brake system froze in place resulting in the replacement of the lines, rotors, discs.

I was driving my 2002 gmc sierra 2500 hd on i95 when traffic came to a sudden stop. i slammed on the brakes at which point the abs system started pulsing the brakes, but the brake pedal suddenly went to the floor with no further brake response. thankfully, the brakes slowed the truck enough prior to failure to prevent a collision at 65 mph. i hit the car in front of me at ~5-10 mph, causing bumper damage to my truck and the car in front of me. i was able to get the car to the side of the road and to my horror i had no brakes. the vehicle was towed to a local authorized gmc dealer who has maintained the truck for me. they confirmed that the brake lines catastrophically failed when i slammed on the brakes. the rusted brake lines burst when i slammed on the brakes. they indicated that all of the brake lines had to be replaced do to rust throughout. i can't believe i have been driving this truck around with a pending catastrophic brake failure without warning from gm or the servicing dealer. if the word is not put out to owners of affected gmc truck, lives will be lost. i shudder to think what could have happened if i had been pulling up to a pedestrian filled crosswalk when the failure occurred. updated 10/03/12*lj *tr

Brake lines are severely corroded and look ready to fail, and i find out that this is a common complaint and all the brake lines should and must be replaced by general motors. the gmc and chevrolet 2500hd modeles are notorius for this malady, and the ntsb should do their job and force gm to replace at no charge, the vehicles brake lines.

During routine maintenance in the shop the truck was started to move it and the brake line burst near the point the brake line exits the frame rail near the rear axle. all rear braking was lost. if this had occured on the highway it could have been a catastrophic event.

Three brake lines ruptured simultaneously causing an inability to stop the vehicle. the cause of failure was related to an extensive amount of corrosion on all of the brake lines on the vehicle. complete replace is necessary. there is a regional recall on this exact issue but does not include my state. there are considerable reports of this failure across the country but gm and even worse nhtsa fails to force a nationwide recall of this potentiality deadly failure. a simple search of the internet will prove this defect is not constrained to only the rust belt states. my '66 chevy still has the original brake lines with no signs of degradation however my '02 gmc requires the replacement of all metal lines on the vehicle. the existence of a current regional recall proves that gm admits to the problem! this failure needs to be corrected nationwide.

I was parked in a friends driveway and was about to leave when i released the parking brake stepped on the brake pedal and put my 2002 gmc 2500hd truck into gear. i started driving down the street and approached a stop sign, when i applied the brakes the pedal went straight to the floor. i pulled off to the side of the road and opened the hood when i noticed brake fluid all over the frame in the engine compartment. upon further investigation i found all the brake lines to be severely rusted and at least one of them ruptured. i was driving with my 9 month old son at the time of the incident and thank god nobody was coming the other way down the road. i had the truck towed to my home where it sits awaiting a total brake line replacement. the underneath of the truck is so severely rusted i think gmc is liable and should issue a recall to correct the problem.

Abs triggers for no apparent reason when applying brakes to my 2002 gmc sierra 2500 hd. i'm told there was some type of a recall due t corrosion of an abs wheel speed sensor, but no dealer will speak to me.

I was plowing snow on the common driveway that i share with 3 other neighbots and came around a bend to meet my meighbor's son on his atv. i slammed on the brakes and the pedal went to the floor. fortunately the pile of snow in front of the plow helped stop my truck. the atv operator dodged in to the snow bank. there was no contact. i found that i had multiple brakeline failures on my truck. i have had a previous brake line failure in 2008 but could not find the work order for repairs to verify date and mileage.

Experience unwanted antilock brake system (abs) activation. this can cause increased stopping distances during low-speed brake applications, which could result in a crash.

Started my vehicle so could move it in front of my garage. when i tried to turn the steering wheel wouldn't move and i had very limited braking power. it took an exceptional amount of pressure on the brake pedal just to stop the vehicle at a very low speed. thankfully no one was hurt and no property damage occurred. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2002 gmc sierra 2500 hd. when the contact depressed the brake pedal, the vehicle did not stop immediately. the abs eventually engaged. the dealer stated that the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign id number 05v379000 (service brakes, hydraulic:antilock). the failure and current mileages were 101,296.

Abs brake sensor failure. at low speeds the abs work even when wheels are not locked up. the first time i experienced this was pulling a 7000lb trailer. i had to divert the truck and trailer onto the shoulder to avoid plowing into traffic in front of me. this appears to be a very expensive repair to make, replacing the front wheel hub assemblies. currently we have had to disconnect one of the abs sensors to keep the abs from activating. *jb

Tl*the contact owns a 2002 gmc sierra 2500 hd. the contact felt the vehicle's brakes pulsate. he took the vehicle to the dealer who discovered that the rotors were corroded, the front wheel hubs were filled with water, the abs sensors were corroded, and the entire braking system needed to be replaced. the current and failure mileages were 34,000.

Tl* - the contact called about 2002 gmc sierra 2500 hd. he stated that while applying brakes, 7 out of 10 times the abs system activated and pumped the brakes. this happened at any time of the day, and in all weather conditions. the contact stated that this happened when applying brakes at any speed. the brakes pushed back and there was a thumping noise coming from the master cylinder. the contact looked up information from the nhtsa website and found that a recall 05v379000 had been issued for this vehicle. the contact said that he took vehicle to the dealership, and was told that this vehicle did not fall under the recall due to vin. *ak the inner tie rod had excessive play, the front differential seal was leaking from the vent cap, the daytime running light bulb was inoperative. the consumer denied to have repairs made. updated 01/29/07. *jb

Dt*: the contact stated the vehicle stalled on three occasions. all incidents occurred during acceleration while traveling 25 to 35 mph. there were no warnings prior to the incidents and the vehicle had no problems restarting. the dealer could not duplicate or resolve the problem. *ak updated 11/16/2006 - there were subsequent problem restarting the vehicle, and as many as 3 to 5 stalling episodes per week. not all incidents occurred while traveling. some incidents occurred while at idle, and at a stop. complete loss of power steering and brakes occurred when the vehicle stalled. the dealer diagnosed the problem as a faulty crankshaft sensor and replaced it. recently the check engine light has illuminated. the dealer diagnosed the problem as a faulty transmission selector position sensor and replaced it. the abs activated while driving on dry pavement. the dealer found it necessary to replace both front abs wheel speed sensors. *nm
