Was driving down road at speed limit, hit brakes, rear brake line burst (was severely rusted). i was unable to stop vehicle and proceeded through a red light at a busy intersection with my 2 year old on board in his car seat. how we both made it out of that incident unscathed is amazing. i was unable to stop and had to pull off to the shoulder and hit the parking brake. it took my son a good 2 months before he was able to rid himself of fear and anxiety due to what happened.

Trip from long island new york to freeport maine. traveling 65-70 mph during trip on highway 95. arrived in freeport. checked into hotel. went out to truck 2 hours later with the intention of attending an event. stepped on brake, started truck, brake pedal went to the floor. pumped the brake pedal but it would not recover from the floor. checked under truck for leaks and found badly rusted brake lines had burst releasing copious amounts of brake fluid. the truck was towed to sears auto department who had to rebuild the entire brake system from the master cylinder to each wheel. sears had to replace brake lines and calipers since the calipers were also so rusted that they could not be bled. if these lines had burst on the highway; my wife, my son and me would have possibly been killed or severely injured and others on the road may have suffered the same fate. i have never seen this type of rust on any auto i have ever owned. this truck has never been exposed to salt water. roads are salted in winter on long island. (as an aside, i had to replace the front bumper prior to starting the trip because it had rusted through from behind. it seems that inferior materials were purchased by gm). *tr

Took truck to dealer for other work and they reported to me the line was leaking and about to rupture. i have 2 jeep products , both in the late 80's with original brake lines and they are fine. you would think that a younger vehicle would be up to the task of lasting longer than 9 yrs. i've owned older cars and trucks and have never seen anything like this, even my 1964 chevy c-10 did'nt have this problem and i sold it in 1991 . a co-worker bought my old chev and at the 30 year mark for it, the brake lines were fine. i believe that along with the manufacture the government should be held accountable also, they allow this subpar equipment on the roads and highways to carry our kids and families, do you think obama's kids would be subjected to danger in this manner. if the director of nhtsa had a failure of this caliber he or she'd be all over this demanding and enforcing a recall .

Many components under the truck are severely rusted. two brake lines failed in august 2011 due to rust. the rest are ready to fail soon. the power steering line rusted out this month (december). rust at sensors of abs system causes erratic abs operation.

 Corroded brake lines.
11/11/201193891
I was traveling down the road at approx ~30 miles an hour approaching an intersection with a red light. i went to apply the brakes, the pedal depressed with no resistance and no braking response. i applied the brakes harder, with pedal all the way down and received light brake response, enough to stop the vehicle just short of the intersection. i took the truck to an ase-certified napa auto center, where the diagnosis was that the brake lines were completely corroded, as well as the emergency brake cables. the corrosion of the brake lines/cable resulted in significant loss of brake fluid, and rendered the emergency brake useless. the total cost of repair is upwards of $1800.00 there was no advanced warning of this failure--no warning lights appeared before or after the failure. this could have been catastrophic and feel that this is a design, assembly or materials flaw that puts public safety at risk.

Hit the brakes on my 2003 gmc sierra 2500hd fairly hard to avoid an accident. i slowed down enough to avert another car, but the anti-lock brakes failed to engage and brake fluid exploded all over my engine. my brakes no longer worked after this initial braking. pedal went to the floor. had to use emergency brake to stop and get towed. very close call.

I was driving my '03 gmc sierra 2500hd on a highway at approximately 65mph, when i had to slow down, to avoid hitting a vehicle slowing down in front of me. i stepped on the brakes, no harder than i normally would, and the pedal went all the way to the floor, with very little to no stopping action from the brakes. i was able to slow down by downshifting the automatic transmission and using the emergency brake to stop, while pulling onto the shoulder. my truck had to be towed to a repair shop, where it was determined that the rear brake line along the drivers' side frame rail had ruptured due to corrosion. my emergency brake assembly also had to be replaced due to excessive rust on it, as well as defective brake shoes. the total cost to repair the brake line came to approximately $450.00, and the emergency brake replacement came to around $900.00. the rest of the brake lines are also very corroded, and should be replaced. i was quoted a price of $1,450 to replace the remaining brake lines on the truck.
04/11/201036000
The brake line on my 2003 gmc sierra ruptured from corrosion between the anti-lock brake controller and the right front tire. the rupture was right in front of the fire wall. i was driving the truck and heard a release of what i thought was air from air brakes, this occured on two occasions less than a minute apart. i new the noise was from my truck but i wasn't sure from where. i put the truck in park at a traffic light and walked around the truck and determined i didn't have a low tire. with the truck still in park i pressed on the brakes, which led to the brake line rupturing. i saw steam from the brake fluid that sprayed onto the manifold. i was able to return safely to my home, which was less than two miles from where i stopped the truck. i visually inspected my brake lines and saw corrosion in the area of the brake line rupture.

On nov. 14 2008 my 2003 gmc sierra 2500 hd 4x4 brake lines failed. the gmc dealer service consultant stated that 1 of my forward lines had failed due to corrosion and that 3 more lines needed to be replaced due to corrosion. that they would fail at any time. with only 56,292 miles on the truck and not living on the gulf coast i was surprised to say the least. i had to pay $ 1209.69 to get the lines replaced at the dealer. *tr

 1) abs speed sensor corrosion causing an unsafe braking situation at speeds below 10 mph. 2) failure occurs every braking situation when below 10 mph 3) 2003 model year not included in current recall by gmc . *tr
03/06/2009503901
During an emergency stop on highway from approx. 45mph, due a tractor trailer suddenly stopping, abs brake system started to fluctuate, but truck did not stop normally. avoided collision by veering to side of road. left front brake line, at clip near wheel, leaked brake fluid thereby preventing quick stop. brake pedal went to floor afterwards, there was seemed to be no secondary hydraulic system pressure for rear brakes. emergency brake was hardly effective.turns out all brake lines are severely corroded in nearly all areas, even under hood. truck has 50,000 miles and is 6 years old. have also previously experienced sudden power steering failure due to power steering line corrosion and fluid loss. power steering system provides hydraulic boost for brakes, therefore brakes are impacted also. brake and power steering lines seem to be made of steel with incorrect or poor alloys, thereby acting like a sacrificial anode on the truck, as evidenced by the rust throughout the lines, vs. localized rust. brake lines and power steering lines have been replaced. still have several rusty lines for inspection if needed. *tr

2003 gmc sierra denali with brake line failure problems. *tgw the consumer complained of a very soft pedal and sometimes the pedal would go to the floor before stopping. the dealer claimed nothing was wrong. the consumers wife was driving the vehicle and when she applied the brakes, on an incline, she traveled backwards out of control and struck the neighborhood sign. she experienced neck and back pain. the consumer arrived at the scene to find massive amounts of brake fluid dripping down the frame from one of the brake lines located on the drivers side. the consumer was informed the brake lines had excessive corrosion and failed. the consumer stated when he attempted to stop, the brakes completely failed. the brake lines were rusted with a hole completely through. the consumer stated the right rear brake line was replaced under warranty. the second time the incident happened the dealer replaced the entire brake line system. *jb
