ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING

Exhaust manifold bolts broke on driver side, back two. these bolts are far too small for the job and this exposes heat and exhaust gases to the environment. creating a fire danger too.
PARKING BRAKE
01/23/200840000112/15/2001
Gmc 2001 sierra c3 parking brake no longer functions as it should. this is a severe safety issue as the pedal goes to the floor and there is no way to adjust it (from what i can tell). a previous campaign 05v161000 alluded to this issue but only for manual transmission trucks. this is not logical as the mechanism is the same. *tr
SERVICE BRAKES

Brakes failed due to rupture of rusted brake line, no warning light while driving on the interstate. was barely able to stop by pressing brake pedal to the floor. abs did not activate. took vehicle to mechanic. multiple brake lines rusted out. *tr

I was involved in a crash where i think the brakes on my 2001 gmc sierra failed to stop my vehicle in time. i rear-ended a pickup truck, which hit a toyota, which then hit a jeep. i know there has been a recall on abs front wheel speed sensors, yet my vin was not included in the recall. nhtsa should force gm to recall all trucks, regardeless of location, and have the abs system properly fixed (not just clean the sensors!!). *nm

Tl*the contact owns a 2001 gmc sierra c3. when the vehicle approaches a stop, the abs grab and make it harder to stop the vehicle. the contact stated that this failure occurred one year earlier while driving at any speed. the emergency brake also failed, which caused the vehicle to fail inspection. a local mechanic informed him that the wheel sensors possibly needed to be cleaned or replaced. the manufacturer stated that the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign id number 05v379000 (service brakes, hydraulic:antilock). the repairs would cost approximately $1,500. the failure mileage was 35,000 and current mileage was 47,000. updated 06/25/08. *lj updated 06/25/08
