PE05020GENERAL MOTORS CORP.04/28/200509/13/2005UNWANTED LOW-SPEED ABS ACTIVATION05V379000
In a letter dated august 29, 2005, gm notified odi that it was recalling certain model year 1999 through 2002 c/k pickup trucks and sport utility vehicles to correct a problem with anti-lock brake system (abs) wheel speed sensor corrosion that may result in unwanted abs activation and extended stopping distances during low-speed braking (recall 05v-379).gm's recall covers approximately 804,000 vehicles currently registered in the following 14 salt-belt states:connecticut, illinois, indiana, massachusetts, maine, michigan, new hampshire, new jersey, new york, ohio, pennsylvania, rhode island, vermont, and west virginia.the recall procedure will involve removing the sensor, cleaning the mounting surface, applying a rust inhibitor (zinc-x) to the surface, and reinstalling the sensor.if necessary, the sensor will be replaced. the population and failure report data given in this resume are for the full region that has been considered by odi as the salt-belt.that includes delaware, iowa, maryland, minnesota, missouri, wisconsin and the district of columbia in addition to the 14 states included in 05v-379.the states covered by gm's recall have the highest incident rates for the subject condition, accounting for 91% of the incidents, but only 24% of subject vehicle sales in the united states.odi's analysis determined that 840 of the complaints, 244 of the crashes, and 16 of the injuries identified in this investigation occurred in those states.the resulting incident and crash rates are 96.2 and 28.0 per 100,000 vehicles respectively (note:rates are based on vehicle sales, not registered vehicles). the corresponding numbers in the excluded portions of the salt-belt are 399,000 vehicles, 81 incidents (20.3 per 100,000 vehicles), 3 crashes, and no injuries.the statistics in the remaining 30 states are 2,406,000 vehicles, 168 incidents (7.0 per 100,000 vehicles), 31 crashes, and one injury.gm and odi are continuing to monitor the problem experience in states that are not included in the recall.gm will provide odi with updated complaint, field report, and warranty data in november 2005.odi and gm will review that data and assess the appropriateness of the current scope of the recall at that time.

Tl*the contact owns a 1999 gmc yukon denali. the contact stated that whenever she drives her vehicle and preparing to stop, the vehicle skids approximately 10 to 15 feet and nearly causes a crash. the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign id number 05v379000 (service brakes, hydraulic:antilock). the dealer stated that it was the consumer's responsibility. the failure occurs at any speed. the current and failure mileages were 115,000.

Dt: the contact stated since purchasing the vehicle it has bucked while braking. it was as though the back brakes were working and the front brakes did not work. the vehicle was taken to the dealership multiple times, but they were unable to diagnose the problem. the vehicle was taken to a local mechanic, and he changed the rotors. this did not repair the problem. recently heard a pop, and when she tried to apply the brakes they went to the floor. she had to drive into a handicap sign to stop the vehicle. she was unable to turn the vehicle around to have it towed. it has not been to a dealer. *ak

I have a 1999 gmc yukon suv and i've been told that the abs sensors are corroded because of the salt used on the roads here in mi in the winter. there is a recall on these vehicles at the present time but when i took my vehicle in for the necessary repair they told me the vin # was not on their list. whenever i stop at an intersection or red light or pull up to park i have a growling noise as i apply the brakes and a slipping of the brake pedal and the car keeps on moving when i think its going to stop. i have had the dealer drive the vehicle and also a brake mechanic and both state it is due to the corrosion that has formed under the wheel speed sensor and moves the sensor away from the integral speed-sensor toothed ring. the condition does not set any abs codes nor does it illuminate the abs warning lamp. the recall ( 05068) by gm procedure involves removing the wheel speed sensors cleaning the sensor mounting surfaces on the bearings, applying zinc-x to the cleaned surfaces, greasing the mounting surfaces, reinstalling the speed sensors, and verifying that the wheel speed signal output voltages were within specification. i cannot understand why my vehicle hasn't been recalled especially when i am experiencing the exact symptoms as others that have been recalled! i have not had the vehicle fixed yet as i am waiting to be accepted on the list. can you please help in accomplishing this for me before their is an accident. thank you. *jb

I have a problem with my antilocking braking system. at low speeds there is a grinding noise and the braking is uneven; meaning it is not smooth, but jerky. this situation does not occur at higher speeds. after this situation the antilocking brake system light comes on and i do not have the problem.

Tl*the contact owns a 1999 gmc yukon denali. on september 8, 2007, while attempting to stop at a stop sign, the vehicle failed to stop and rear ended another vehicle. a police report was filed. the front passenger side of the vehicle was damaged. when the brakes were applied at low speeds, the brake pedal extended to the floor and the vehicle failed to immediately stop. the failure was caused by a lack of braking pressure and corrosion build up in the antilock system. the vehicle has not been taken to the dealer. nhtsa campaign id number 05v379000 (service brakes, hydraulic:antilock:control unit/module) was referenced. the vin, speed, and purchase date were unknown. the current and failure mileages were 140,000.

Another vehicle pulled out in front of me. i managed to avoid them despite my brake rotor failure. 1999 gmc yukon denali - during maximum braking from 45 mph the left front brake rotor suffered a catastrophic failure. the rotor failure resulted in the vehicle suddenly surging to the right while braking. the rotor disk become completely separated from the hub mounting flange. the rotor was original from the factory with 95,000 miles on it. the truck had recently passed pa state inspection (august 2007) and a full brake job was done at that time. this included turning the rotors. a new rotor was installed during the repair after this incident. *tr
