The bureau of automotive repair (bar) suggested that i file my compaint to nhtsa. my motorhome, gulf stream on a spartan chassis, has a steering problem - a large turning radius since i brought it new. the maximum front wheel cut angles are 28 degrees for right turn and 26 degrees for left turn instead of 45 degrees according to the manufacturer's specification. if the wheel cut is 28 degrees, the turning radius is 33.7 feet by the inside front wheel instead of 22.4 feet at 45 degrees. right now, it is 11.3 feet larger, that is, more than 50% larger turning radius than the specs. j&l repairs (an authorized gulf stream service shop) and a local alignment shop stated that the problem was the steering gear box. documentation was sent to ed dobbs (director of customer service) of spartan motor requesting resolution of the problem. response from spartan motor is unsatisfactory. would appreciate your assistance. documentation is available. thank you, ken yasui. *ak |
