Consequence SummaryIf this occurs, the battery can short against the cover, causing sparks and possibly a fire.

ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 harley davidson dyna wide glide. while driving 25 mph uphill, the bolts began to clank in the engine. the vehicle began to hesitate and the contact was able to pull off the road and shut off the engine. the vehicle was able to be restarted a few minutes later, but the noise grew louder. the vehicle was taken to the dealer and they stated that the failure was ongoing and harley refuses to issue a recall. the dealer further stated that the starter that bolts onto the primary became loose and detached, causing the pulley to also detach. the vehicle is currently at the dealer waiting for parts. the failure mileage was 9,100.
EQUIPMENT

I purchased a harley davidson low rider from southside harley in virginia beach, va. the horn does not work. i have had it back to them twice, they oil it, i get it back on the road, and it doesn't work. the service department read me an interoffice memo stating basically that harley recognizes that their horn consistently does not work and recommending several things that can be done to fix it, but everyone i talk with says it is a conisisten problem. it is a tremendous safey factor especially for a novice rider in my opinion. the dealership gave me some 800 number to call and after going through a selection of a number of questions i was put on hold for an indefinite period.
POWER TRAIN

I was out riding with my husband and my friend and we had just come over the high rise bridge from beaufort to morehead city and was sitting at a traffic light. when the light turned green and i went to go, the rear tire would not move and a very odd/loud noise came from the rear of the bike to which my husband said to me to shut the bike off. my bike had sheered all five of the bolts off that hold the rear sprocket onto the back tire and they locked the tire in a fixed position. well my husband contacted the harley davidson warranty company who stated that the rear sprocket and anything it had damaged was specifically not covered and that if we wanted to know why we would have to contact harley davidson, also they stated that those five bolts should have been retorqued as part of the 10000 mi service as they are considered critical fasteners. well my husband contacted new river harley davidson who stated that they could not tell him whether or not those bolts had been checked at all because they were not listed as critical fasteners in the harley davidson service manual .at least 13 other newer bikes have been affected. my husband was then told to contact harley davidson customer care that told him that those bolts should have been checked as part of the 10000 mi service and re-torque. and for him to take the bike to nrhd for an evaluation inspection. he did this and within the day, the service manager at nrhd called and told us none of it was going to be covered, but couldn't tell us why. new river hd told bbb sprocket and bolts always removed from wheel at every tire change. but told my husband that was not the case when he was at new river hd. hd customer care says the 2011 service manual specifically lists these bolts as critical fasteners.
POWER TRAIN - DRIVELINE

The inner primary bearing went out at 5000 miles on the bike. this is a very common problem in the 2006 harley davidson dyna motorcycle. it should be looked into.
STEERING - WHEEL AND HANDLE BAR
09/03/20055109/03/2005
The handle bars on my 2006 hd softail motorcycle are not aligned correctly. i purchased the bike and notified the dealer who attempted to fix it. they contacted hd representative who looked and rode the bike on 10-20-05 and stated it was within specifications. the handle bars point 2 or 3 degrees to the right, which makes it noticeable to the rider. hd refuses to correct the problem. i explain the problem like this; if you bought a car and the steering wheel and not centered, you would have the dealer correct the problem. as a child, if the handle bars on your bike were not straight, you got off your bike, and pulled them into alignment. on a hd, the hand bars are bolted down and need to be adjusted by moving the forks. is anybody else having this problem? is this a defect on all 2006 bikes? it makes you want to turn the handle bars to the right.8jb
