I recently saw that harley-davidson issued recall campaign # 0113, even though my flhtci is a 2000 (manufactured in 1999), i have had the situation where my bike had completely stopped (including electrical shutting off) on four occasions. three of these i was moving at speed and the last time when i was at a dead stop. after several seconds and turning the main switch off/on i was able to restart the bike. i am wondering if this recall includes my bike also - and if it doesn't could the recall be expanded to include model year 2000 also....my vin is 1hd1ffw17yy603920. *jb
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM - FUSES AND CIRCUIT BREAKERS

The front fender tip marker light has wiring that runs under the front fender, it rubs on the tire which wears the insulation off the wires , this causes a short and blows the fuse, this fuse is also for the headlight so when this happens the motorcycle loses headlight and running light, this is a very dangerous situation when driving the motorcycle at night on a dark unlit road, my understanding from the dealer is that this is a common problem for a couple of years of this model.*ak

This report is made to you because of a problem with failure of cam bearings in the tc-88 engines.i've recently received a letter from the manufacturer addressing this problem. they are admitting guilt to the problem, and extending an additioal warranty to it. according to them, it is in a very small percentage that are failing. many riders are changing them as a preventive measure, thus harley davivdson is not aware of exactly how many have failed. the company sold the motorcycle with a known defect and it was bought without being informed of such. the component failing at highway speeds could result in at least 2 deaths, depending on traffic, even more. i urge you , if nothing else, to at least find out more information for yourself. maybe you can find out what the percentage of motorcycles have failed, and which had it replaced as a saftey measure. thank you for your time. michael schnibbe

In august of 2008, i was riding my 2000 harley davidson flhtci electra glide when all of a sudden the motorcycle just shut down. i was fortunate to be able to coast to the side of the road. just as i was entering the shoulder of the road, the motorcycle started right up. however, i noticed my speedometer bounding up and down and not correctly reporting my speed. when i took the bike in for repairs, i was told it was a speed sensor which was a recurring problem with my particular model motorcycle. less than 4,000 miles later, it happened yet again. today, while riding in traffic in the left lane of a four lane roadway the bike cut off. i was once again able to coast to the right and get off the main roadway. as soon as i got off the main roadway, my bike started up. however, the speedometer is not recording my speed correctly. i had to return home on rt. 95 and although i was keeping up with traffic, my speedometer was reporting a speed of about 45 mph, whereas the posted speed limit is 70. the unexpected shut down and loss of power is very dangerous, the loss of speed detection further complicates the safety concern. *tr
