Engine knocks and kicks backs, on starting and when accelerating, has been worked on several times, by harley davidson dealer. the problem i've been told is the compensator sprocket and assembly . through many forums and talks with other harley riders that have had the same problems, the fix to the problem according to people who have researched the compensator is for it to be replaced with the screaming eagle compensator part #40274-08.if this is not recalled or repaired by harley it can be very expensive for the owner to repair approx. 600.00 dollars but more important the compensator can come apart possibly busting the primary case letting oil to spill on to road and tires which could cause an accident and possibly hurting someone or worse killing someone

Excessive clattering noise coming from drive train of motorcycle. motorcycle has been examined at dealer and was serviced to upload new computer program into engine control module. drivetrain still clatters and feels as if engine or transmissions shafts are about to break. dealers say this is normal. motorcycle does not feel safe to drive. from my reading on internet this is a common issue with 2007 touring class harley davidson. i personally feel this needs to be investigated to reassure owners bikes are sound and that drivetrain is not going to lock up at highway speeds. *tr

I bought a 2007 electra glide ultra by harley davidson on sept. 8, 2006. i returned the bike on sept. 9, 2006 saying in was making to much noise. they rode it and said it needed to be broke in, and put 1/2 quart of transmission fluid in. i rode the bike 500 miles and returned the bike on sept. 12, 2006 stating that the primary sounded like a can full of rocks, the 5th gear in the transmission whined so bad it sounded like an ambulance, and the valves were rattling so bad that you could not hear yourself think, and the exhaust pipes had already turned blue. they kept the bike for the next 18 days during which a rep. from harley davidson came by to ride the bike(9-21-07). i rode his bike and he rode mine and after the ride he admitted the bike had noises and that the motor company knew this and for me to wait until they found a fix. his bike was quiet as a mouse. on sept. 29, 2006 i picked up bike, and am still having all loud noises, and they told me just to ride it at higher rpm's. this bike needs to be replaced or my 22k given back. thanks for your help. *nm

The situation: on a motorcycle, drivetrain failure at typical operating speeds could very well mean severe injury or death of the rider. abnormal heat or noise coming from the motorcycle's drivetrain are not issues to be ignored by a prudent rider or by the manufacturer of the motorcycle. for example the drivetrain on my 2007 flhtcu is excessively noisy when operated in gear. this implies excessive vibration and/or abnormal wear occurring somewhere within the system. in addition, the exhaust runs so hot as to present a burn hazard to the rider and passenger even when properly clothed. while riding even in winter temperatures i sustained a severe burn to my left leg, leaving a permenat 4 scar. it is well known that excessive heat will also contribute to longterm problems with any drivetrain, increasing the likelyhood of failure. what harley davidson has done: to date, the only half-hearted solution to these maladies offered by the harley davidson motor company has been the torque smoothing download which accomplished nothing when installed on my bike. hd has asserted that the noise and heat are normal. on the contrary, many 2007 hd units do not have these issues, thus they are clearly not normal. many owners have resorted to costly aftermarket solutions such as replacement gearsets and fuel management systems all installed a their own expense. i essence, hd has offloaded their responsibilities onto their customers. what hd should do: hd should issue a recall. hd should retrofit all affected 2007 models with the ids rubbermount rear sprocket (now standard on the 2008 touring models) to reduce drivetrain vibration and wear. they should also provide adjustments and/or modifications as needed to the fuel system to reduce drivetrain heat. they should extend the warranty of all affected 2007 motorcycles appropriately. *tr

Transmission will not shift out of 2nd gear (up to 3ed gear or down to n) . transmission will pop out of 6yh gear back into 5th gear at highway speeds. am afraid the transmission will lock up causing the rear wheel to lock and cause an accident. *tr

My 2007 harley davidson ultra classic has developed a very loud rattle and knock in the driveline. it sounds as though something is very loose and getting ready to come apart. i have taken the bike to the dealer 8 times and the has not been any fix for the problem yet. there is a website (www.hdforum.com) where there are many, many 2007 ultra classic owners with the exact same complaint. i fear that if whatever is loose inside the driveline comes apart at highway speed it could cause rear wheel lockup and loss of control of the motorcycle. *jb

2007 flhtcui, 1)my primary side very loud whining may be due to chain tensioner, compensator weak spring noticed in neutral and shifting. 2) my transmission very loud whining in 1st. and 5th. gears. also loud and noticeable clattering in several gears mostly in fifth. 3) i read on motorcycle talk groups dip stick transmission breaking off have occurred 4) transmission failures occurring while driving . harley davidson company is not addressing these potential life threatening problems neither upholding there warranty for excessive noises issues. *jb
