Defect Summary	Vehicle description: motorcycles. these motorcycles were built with a fuel tank vent fitting that could be plugged allowing the carburetor to overflow fuel.
Consequence Summary	This could result in a fire.
Corrective Summary	Dealers will inspect the fuel tank vent fitting and, if plugged, will correct this condition.
Notes	Owner notification began august 12, 1999.owners who take their vehicles to an authorized dealer on an agreed upon service date and do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact harley-davidson at 1-414-342-4680.also contact the national highway traffic safety administration's auto safety hotline at 1-888-dash-2-dot (1-888-327-4236).

	See cover letter the consumer noticed blisters on the frame of his motorcycle. the consumer had metallurgical testing done which showed that the frame was rusted prior to final assembly and coating. there was also corrosion on the swing arm and visible pitting through the chrome. *nm
