ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING - ENGINE
08/31/20108856
After work i started the engine and allowed it to warm up while i put on my protective riding gear (jacket, helmet, and gloves). the engine was running normally as i rode to the end of the parking lot slowly and stopped at the end of the lane. i began to turn to the right, releasing the clutch and rolling on the throtte while leaning when the engine suddenly lost all power resulting in a crash. after picking the bike up and resetting the ignition, it ran very roughly (as if running on one cylinder) and stalled. i tried running the engine several times working the throttle to keep the engine running, without throttle input the engine would surge and stall. i let it sit for approximately 30 minutes, but it still ran roughly and stalled. after trailering the bike home, i tried again but had the same problem. after reading the 1130cc.com forum, i removed power from the ecm to force a reset. the reset seems to have worked since the idle is smoother and throttle response better. however, i haven't taken it for a road test yet. historically, the vrod would have some slight hesitation first thing in the morning when cold. this was reported to the dealership, but i was told that it was due to the fuel map being lean for emissions reasons. this should not occur with a fuel injected engine and indicates that the map is not correct (my car and truck don't have this issue). however, this ecm issue is entirely different and much more severe.

FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE

Gas gauge will not show how much gas you have in the fuel cell. this can cause you to run out of gas and possibly be run into by vehicles following you. being fuel injected when you run out of gas, the motorcycle will just shut down. this can lead to a very dangerous situation as the bike weighs 650 lbs.

I was riding my 2006 hd vrscr when i turned a corner at an intersection in a town. i attempted to slow down using my rear brake when the pedal went completely down against its hard stop. no braking occurred. it happened with about 15,000 miles on the bike. it only happened this one time. i was able to stop with the front brake alone. i inspected the rear brake master cylinder and found the rear brake light switch leaking brake fluid. i replaced the switch and the brakes again work. the failed part is not available.

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 harley davidson vrscr. when the contact depressed the brake pedal, the vehicle began to vibrate and shudder. the dealer was unable to diagnose the cause of failure on two occasions. however, on the third occasion, the dealer stated that the rotors were warped. as of july 3, 2007, the dealer has not repaired the vehicle because they have not received permission from the manufacturer. the current mileage is 17,100 and failure mileage was 3.

Dt: last weekend consumer and wife bought a new kawasaki motorcycle, and while riding the motorcycle wife noticed that the area around right foot was getting very hot. stopped at a parking lot, looked at the exhaust pipe, and realized that it was very close to the foot rest. went to the dealer, and asked if there was a cover that they could put over the exhaust. the dealer was very indifferent to this problem and would not help . they told consumer that the only way to avoid the burning was for wife to wear boots, or heavier socks.*ak
WHEELS

I own a 2006 harley davidson vrscr street rod. from the time i purchased the bike, the front was slightly wobbly. as i rode this bike more, the wobble got worse, and was much more when braking. finally, after a trip to charleston from atlanta, as we got off the expressway, the wobbling was soo bad, i had a hard time controlling the bike. i took it in to the dealer, and they couldn't figure out the problem, but they said it was probably the rotor, but they didn't have one in stock. i looked online, and realized many people are having this problem. i took it to my dealer after my trip, and they confirmed that hd told them this was a characteristic of the wheels on this bike. they were careful not to call it a flaw. they did, however, replace the front wheel with a different type of wheel, which fixed the problem immediately. but, i had to pay $500 for a rear wheel to match the new front wheel . . and they made me feel like they did me a favor by putting the rear wheel on for free. i think that this is a flaw, not a characteristic. and it is explained since harley promptly has stopped selling this bike after only 2 yrs of production. there's more to this story as of the grief i was caused, but i'll save you the trouble. feel free to contact me if you'd like the gory details. best regards, navid amidi *tr
