Defect SummaryHeil is recalling certain model year 2006-2009 rapid rail and cp python bodies garbage trucks with bolt-on rear hinge assemblies. affected bodies are those which have a bolt on rear hinge assembly but do not have structural gussets to reinforce the z-plate. cracking can occur in the z-plate area and a failure can result when the body is in the raised position during waste unloading procedures.
Consequence SummaryThe body can become unstable when raised during dumping operations and cause the truck to roll over on its side increasing the risk of injuries.
Corrective SummaryDealers will inspect and install the bolt on hinge kit free of charge. the safety recall began on march 10, 2010. owners may contact heil at 866-275-4345.

 Odi sent heil environmental an information request letter on 6 october 2010.after reviewing the letter and subsequent discussions with odi, heil decided to issue a safety recall pertaining to 2,201 units built from calendar year 2004 through 2010.they submitted a 573 defect report to nhtsa on 22 november 2010.heil is unaware of any accidents or injuries related to this problem.therefore this investigation is closed and heil was excused from answering odi's information request.

 During odi's normal review of all technical service bulletins submitted to odi, the alleged defect was identified.the plc relay my become corroded and cause the lift/grabber to operate unintentionally.the subject component controls a mechanical arm used to load trash from a residential curb side collection into a trash collection vehicle.if the lift/grabber were to deploy unintentionally while the vehicle was in motion or in the presence of an unsuspecting individual a crash or injury might occur.odi has opened a pe to further investigate this matter.
