Defect SummaryThe front safety belt buckle release buttons can break. these red plastic release buttons are marked press. if a button breaks, pieces can fall into the buckle assembly causing the buckle to operate improperly.
Consequence SummaryThe safety belts would not provide adequate protection to an occupant in a vehicle crash.
Corrective SummaryOwners should promptly check the condition and operation of both front safety belt buckles. carefully inspect the red release button for any breaks or cracks. check that both buckles are operating properly by inserting each latch plate into its buckle, tug on the belt to make sure the latch is securely locked, then press the release button. the latch plate should pop out of the buckle when the button is pressed. if either release button shows any sign of breakage or cracking, or if either buckle fails to operate properly, promptly contact your authorized honda/acura dealer to schedule an appointment to have the buckle replaced or repaired, free of charge. the manufacturer is developing a remedy designed to prevent the failure of the buttons that are not currently broken.

Tl- the contact owns a 1990 honda accord ex. the contact stated the seat belt warning system light stays on. the seat belt latches, but the light stays on. the contact took the vehicle to the dealer and was told the part was under warranty, but the manufacturer stated the front buckle assembly is not covered under the lifetime warranty. this was supposed to be cover under recall campaign number 95v103001, which deals with the front buckle assembly. the failure mileage was 248000 and the current mileage was 250000.rl

1990 honda accord two door coupe passenger front seat belt malfunction. my front track seat belt is locked in the forward position. normally it retracts to rear position after door closes. i took my car to local honda dealership after they said over the phone that seat belt repair was covered for lifetime of vehicle. the dealership had the car for two days then said i needed a seat belt control unit, not covered by lifetime warranty. dealer did not fix malfunctioning seat belt. i called honda usa in torrence, ca.(1-800-999-1009), they also said seat belt control unit was not warranted. i do not know what to do other than fix problem at my own expense. is honda's assumption correct in stating seat belt control unit is not part of the seat belt, thus not covered under lifetime warranty? *tr

My daughter was hit head-on and her body slammed against the steering wheel. she was wearing both the lap and automatic shoulder belt. apparently the locking mechanism did not work on the shoulder belt.

Driver's door froze shut, door was inoperable. lock assembly/actuator mechanism that froze also controls automatic shoulder harness, which would not work. contacted several honda dealerships, known problem with 1990 and 1991 models. they have a difficult time keeping part 364246 lock assembly ($265) in stock, due to number of failures. honda would drill open door and replace assembly for $800. safety hazard created by both driver's door and shoulder seat belt being inoperable. if known safety hazard/defect, why is consumer expected to pay $800?*ak

Normally when you trying to exit the car driver opens the door and the shoulder belt moves forward to let you exit. the problem that i am reporting is that instead of the belt moving forward it moves back toward the driver' or passanger, securing them with extra force to the point you are unable to move. this problem occurs only 5 or 6 times a year. when it happens, the only way i have found to bypass it is to reclose the door and restart the engine and then reopen the door. i have tried to disconnect the belt from the upper clip to relieve the pressure on my chest and then go through the restarting process. i reported this problem early on to the dealer. but naturally i could not demonstrate it to them, and they could not make it happened. so i have learned to live with it. i am reporting this because it may be happening to other people, and in my opinion it could be a serious safety problem under the right circumstances. *ak
