TIRES

Treads seperated from tire while driving, nearly causing an accident. a couple of miles before it came apart, there was a slight vibration. i slowed down to fifty mph on a highway, the tire blew apart, momentarily lost control of the vehicle, and once i maintained control of the vehicle, i pulled over to the side of the highway. i took the tire back to discount tire, they wrote a report on the condition of the tire and sent the report back to falken tire. they denied liability for the tire failure and the tire is still in their possesion.

A michelin destiny 195/60/15 tire with dot # honda-f5ax-5005 failed without warning while traveling on ca-94e in san diego at approximately 65 mph. the steel belts separated from the cap piles in the left rear tire on my 1991 honda accord ex coupe causing the side wall of the tire to rupture and the tire to subsequently disintegrate. i was able to pull off the road safely and discovered that the outer side wall on the left rear tire had completely separated from the tire. no obstruction in the road was observed prior to the tire failing and the vehicle was not damaged by the tire failure. all four tires were purchased new on 07/31/2006 from discount tire company. mileage on the tires at time of failure was approximately 59,000. remaining tread was measured at 1/8. the tires had been rotated every 5000 miles and air pressure was last checked seven days prior to tire failure. subsequent inspection of the remaining three tires in daylight revealed slight cracking in the side walls of each. discount tire replaced all four tires with michelin hydroedge tires under the 80,000 mile prorated warranty from michelin, however, i was stuck footing 3/4 the cost of the replacements. the defective tires have been sent to michelin for further inspection. *tr

I bought 4 tires for my honda accord around summer 97, they had about 35,000 miles on them at this moment. due to the hot weather in ok and tx; last friday, i waited until 800pm for the heat to come down to drive from oklahoma city to dallas. about 60 miles north of dallas, my rear right tire blew up as seen on tv news reports on the recall tires; the outer ply(s) peeled off. the dot on my tires are: vdrvaib496 made from the same decatur illinois plan. would like to know if the nhtsa is investigating all firestone's tires beside the recall ones. just wondered, there is a workmanship problem at the decatur, illinois plan? please email me any finding or information on firestone's other tires problems. ..... thank you!( dot number: vdrv tire size: p185/70r14 )

TIRES - TEMPORARY/EMERGENCY SPARE TIRE
12/07/2000104/01/1991
Honda's are sold with donut spare tires which are of reduced size and durability and increased pressure. in my first use, the tire failed in less than 30 miles driven at under 50 mph. in my view this is an inherently unsafe arrangement. although the dealer services this car since new according to mfr specs, i don't ever recall checking the tire myself (unlike tires that get rotated regularly). it quickly failed in curcumstances that could have been quite dangerous.*ak

Two yokohama tires were mounted on the front wheels. after 27,000 miles, steel belts in the right front tire failed. ten miles later, the left front tire failed the same way. both failures nearly caused very bad accident in heavy interstate highway traffic. *ak( dot number: 1796036 tire size: p18570tr14 )
