My 1993 honda accord will continuously hesitate to respond to gasoline around 60 mph or at 1500 or 2500 rpms, this is listed in technical service bulletin: 603961. this problem happens every day. the car will also stall out at slow speeds or idle. no mechanic has been able to successfully diagnose this problem. i took my car into the dealer to address this problem and they literally laughed at me when i asked if they could fix it for free. this is absurd since this problem affects my safety. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 1993 honda accord. while driving 60 mph, the engine stalled in the middle of the highway. the dealer advised the contact to bring the vehicle in for repair. he has not yet taken the vehicle to the dealer. a different mechanic diagnosed the cause of failure as the igniter. the current mileage is 99,000 and failure mileage was 80,000.

On two occasions, my honda accord developed an oil leak without any warning from a defective oil seal. my car became inoperable and was towed for repairs. i called saccucci honda to see if the work was covered by warranty and was told that it wan't. i also own a 1994 honda accord and that car is being recalled for the same problem. *ak

I left my home and drove past about 8 othe houses when my oil light started flashing. i immediately returned home and parked in the garage. a trail of oil was in my driveway and a puddle of oil formed in the garage. i had my car towed to baierl honda who told me i needed new engine seals. i have since learned that honda has a product campaign telling some owners of honda accords about this very problem (balancer shaft oil seal) and telling them to get it repaired at a dealer or if they already had the problem, to get reimbursement from honda. my friend got this letter. his is a 94 honda, mine a 93. baierl tells me my year is not covered, however, i noticed in your technical bulletin data base that nhtsa item number sbo49981 was issued on this problem for both 1993 and 1994 hondas. i also noticed in your complaint data base on 1993 hondas, that there are other complaints with this exact problem. i was fortunate in that i got home before the oil completely ran out. others who have filed complaints with you were not so fortunate, incurring serious engine damage. this seems to be a long known problem wit hondas and i feel honda should reimburse me just as they are those with 94s and higher. i have the exact same problem. it is a serious engineering defect that clearly started before 1994. it cost me $521.68 to repair this. now i have a quarter size leak of oil every morning that never exisited prior to this incident and the dealer claims there is nothing wrong. the dealer also says that 1993 hondas did not have this problem, but since there is a technical bulletin, he is clearly in the dark if not lying. i have tried to contact honda america but each time i do, i am told the call volume is high and to call back later and then i am cut off. i asked baierl honda to contact honda on my behalf and they told me they could not. i would appreciate anything you can do to assist me in recovering my money for this problem which is clearly known by honda.

The engine oil light came on and there was smoke in the engine compartment. i pulled over to a garage, and found out that the the engine oil had completely leaked because of a defective main oil seal. contacted the american honda motor who stated that they have recalled the 1994 and onward models because of the defective oil seal problem but have not yet recalled the 1993 model. the engine can suddenly seize because of the defective engine balance shaft oil seal and there is a potential for a fire in the engine compartment.*ak

On this vehicle the engine balance shaft oil seal dislodges, potently causing an underhood fire or the engine to seize. on a manual transmission vehicle this could results in a loss of control while driving. this failure is catastrophic, without any warning, resulting in a complete loss of engine oil into the environment. complete oil loss occurs in approximately about 3 minutes. again, the possible safety problems are engine fire and seizure. minor complications are the requirement of new or remanufactured engine. this problem is also documented in a service bulletin: service bulletin number: 961001b / bulletin sequence no.: 46 / nhtsa item no.: sb049981

The garage where i had the car repaired said they had repaired other 1993 honda cars with the same problem. i would not have bothered to report this, but also happened to the other 1993 h0nda accord that we own. i believe this is a serious safety defect, which could result in serios injuries or death if the engine runs out of oil on an interstate and the engine seizes up. my son was smart enough to push the ctutch pedal in and turn the engine off.

Tl*-the contact was driving on a snowy day at 20 mph and the oil light started to blink rapidly on the dashboard of her 1993 honda accord. she pulled off the road and found that there was no oil in the vehicle. the contact put in four quarts of oil and notice a leak. about an hour after the incident she check the oil again and found that it was empty again. she poured another quart of oil in the vehicle and drove it to a mechanic shop half a block away and they told her it was the balance shaft seal needed to be replaced that this was a common problem on hondas manufactured during the same period. the repair cost $750.00. honda stated that this failure was not a under recall. the contact believes that if the failure is a known manufacturing defect and the manufacturer should be responsible. *jb
