| After purchasing our new honda accord wagon on 4/10/94 we noticed that the brakes did not feel as though they were operating correctly. we took the vehicle in to the dealer on 7/19/96 to have the brakes serviced because the rear brakes were worn out after 18261 miles. we asked the service manager if there was something wrong with the brakes due to the premature wearing out of the rear brakes. we were simply told that this was normal for this car with anti-lock brakes. we needed to have the car serviced again for an unrelated problem on 11/26/97 and we again told the service manager that the brakes were not functioning right and we were again told that this was normal for this car. on 9/13/03 while i was driving the car on the 880 freway i applied the brakes as i was about to exit and the brake pedal went straight to the floor. luckily i was able to quickly pump the brakes fast enough to get the car to come to a stop without hitting anything. i brought the car to a nearby midas repair facility and they informed me that there were quite a few service bulletins covering the problems that i had experienced with my vehicle and that the dealer should have dealt with them before this failure. i was forced to pay over $1400.00 for repairs to my vehicle that were the direct result of the honda dealership's failure to look into my concerns about the brake problems and look up the service bulletins on file. they put me, my wife and my son's life in danger by not doing their job. | |||

| We purchased our 1994 honda accord wagon new on 4/10/94 from honda of hayward in california. after about a year or so my wife noticed that the brakes felt different but could not specifically state why. on 7/19/96 we brought our car into the dealer because the rear brakes were squealing. we were told that they were worn out and needed replacement. i questioned that the rear brakes would wear out after 18261 miles and was told that this was normal. i was charged $129.08 for this work. on 11/26/97 we needed to have our honda serviced due to a failed cam bearing seal. while the car was being serviced we told the service manager jim mclaughlin that the brakes felt strange in that they pulsed and the abs light would come on when the car was driven on trips of 100 miles or so but would go out when the ignition was turned off. we were again told that there was nothing out of the ordinary for this model of car. (we were also charged by the dealer for the replacement of the seal and had to apply for a refund several years later when the safety recall was announced) on 11/17/98 i had to have both the front and the rear brakes replaced with the odometer reading 36198. this cost $166.49. on 5/1/02 we had the brakes replaced again with 66246 miles on the car. all during this time we continued to have the same problems with the brakes. this cost $289.21 for the repairs. finally on 9/13/03 while driving on the freeway i attempted to apply the brakes and the pedal went to the floor. the vehicle was taken to a midas facility where i explained to the manager what had happened and he checked the car and then showed me the service bulletins that were on his computer for 94 accords with vin no's starting with 1hgc. the defective accumulator was replaced ($1182.54). after completing the replacement of the accumulator we drove the car and noticed the brake pedal fading into the floor and they determined that the master cylinder needed to be replaced. | |||

| First repair done clinton honda (1511 route 22 east, annandale, nj) - 6/12/01 symptom: abs lights on. 6/19/01 clinton honda diagnosis need to replace accumulator,and reseal modulator. 6/26/01 parts in, replaced accumulator. problems not fixed. clinton honda said need to replace pump. 7/11/01. pump in and replaced. 7/18/01 abs light back on. 7/19/01 back to clinton honda. bleed and replace fluid on the abs system. total cost. $ 1000.00. 07/23/2002 abs light back on. call clinton honda (mike diana) refused to accept the labor warranty, which only passed 5 days. go to different honda dealer (autosport honda, nj), because do not trust the clinton honda mechanics who apparently using trial and replace to fix method. need to replace modulator. cost $ 1900.00. total abs repair cost in one year $ 2900.00. lots of complaint with abs for 1994 accord model, why honda doesnot issue a recall. are they waiting for somebody got killed due to the failure of their abs system. honda must know about this problem, because they redesign the abs in 1996 model. or do we need to hire a lawyer to start the class action law suit againts honda?*ak | |||

| This is my second major defect with my 1994 honda. the first was an oil seal which honda a year later had a recall on. i have now have a problem with the abs brakes. i have complained about this for almost two years and got numerous answers on why the light kept coming on. now almost two years later they tell me i need a whole new system which is going to cost $1300.00. to me this is a safety hazard when your brakes are not working properly. this should be a honda recall. several times when i was at the dealership other people with the same year car have come in with the same problem and were told the same answers. honda should be made responsible for this defect.*ak | |||

| As i turned on the ignition, the abs light came on, signalling that the abs system was no longer functioning. according to the honda diagnostic service, the modulator is leaking. both the modulator and accumulator have to be replaced at a cost of over $1500.00. i have been told by mechanics at two honda dealers in my area (open road honda, edison, nj; z&w honda, princeton, nj) that this is a very common problem on '94 hondas, and that the abs breakdown is the result of inadequate design. these parts, i have been told, have been redesigned to prevent breakage. the abs system is a true safety feature, and i feel that the manufacturer should been forced to recall the vehicle for repair.*ak | |||

| Looking into the techincal service bulletin you will see over 6 bulletin reporting the loss of brake fluid from the abs accumulator / moldulator area. this appears to me to be a manufacturing defect, a safety issue as well. since i have never used my abs, i can not understand how this system has failed due to brake fluid leakage. i feel that since the goverment pushed abs and the manufacture charges additional for the feature the manufacture should be held liable for the defects of the unit. this repair is obnoxious for the tyical consumer, costing almost $1200.00 to repair. this is absurb, this is a safety feature, why has this not been recalled previously? its time that someone stood up to the manufacture and expressed that if they charge additional for features of safety they should be forced to back them. thank you. *ak | |||
