My honda1999 barley has 79,000 on it, im second owner. i bought it when it had only 37,000 mil. on it. the car is already having transmission problems. it jerks when driving and coming to a stop, like a pop jerky feel. my cooling system had problem in 2010 oil going into my radiator. and know i have electrical problem. the car at times would go off. 79,000 i cant believe it. you would think this my car was a ford with their older modules. known to have engine problems after 70,000. this is crazy. i have all papers from first owner, never realized till reaching the chaos of my engine. that my car as well was a recall. i have the documents.

Update to odi 10444643 filed 1/20/12. i was attempting to turn left at a highway intersection and the honda totallt stalled and the green key light came on the dash. the vehicle did not lose total power but it stalled while a fast vehicle approached from the right. i was afraid i would not get through the intersection without a wreck. it was a terrifying experience. after that first experience the vehicle totally lost power while at a stop sign in a mall. it took 2 attempts to restart car. i could not imagine what the problem could possibly be so i researched the possible problem and found that this honda had ignition switch problems. i purchased the vehicle in 2007 and it had approximately 121,200 miles. the vehicle was recalled in 2002 due to a defect in the ignition switch. am ignition switch update was completed on 10/1/02 at 59,183 miles. by an authorized honda dealer. i have had no issues until jan 2012. looks like i will have to replace this switch again but it is too dangerous to not address the problem. can't imagine this problem at 70 mph. update; took the vehicle to honda dealer on 1/23/12 and told the tech what i thought the problem was. the test showed it was indeed the ignition switch once again . the cost for replacing was $206. 36. . so, honda's recall in 2002 did not correct this defect.

At times, engine suddenly dies out when coming to a stop (traffic light; stop sign). the car has automatic transmission. i can easily put the car in park again and restart with no problem. the car has 80k miles and is well maintained. after a few of these scary experiences, took the car to a local honda dealership in atlanta ga. cost of $160 (description - routine maintenance - bg fuel service all - cleaned throttle body). assumed this would have corrected the issue. i was wrong. in two more occasions - had the same problem again. the last time it happened, the car suddenly stopped while slowing down to stop at a stop sign. the car started again (takes a while in an automatic transmission though). i was lucky a car behind me had enough space to stop. this time, i researched the web and noticed many owners have similar problems with honda accord 1999. i was one of the lucky ones though (the car had not yet stopped while driving in a busy traffic). at 20,374 mile, the same honda dealership performed the 2002 safety recall - accord ignition switch - electrical ignition switch fp number : 3510-s84-305 (switch e 79530), this was done on 12/03/02. took the car back to the honda dealership on 10/28/11. i asked the service technician to look into the 2002 ignition switch recall ; customer complaints & what else was performed to correct it. i don't believe this service adviser was aware of this major safety issue with honda accords (1999). this time the dealership surprised me with replacing ignition switch again. this was a $405 repair. the fp number is 35130-s84-a01 (switch s 79530). i assume there are two parts in the ignition switch. i am not certain why the 2002 safety recall did not advice the dealerships to replace both parts (e & s switches). the dealership advised me the s switch is behind the ignition switch.

This is a v6 automatic. i have kept up with the maintenance of the vehicle exactly as honda has instructed. i have even gone as far to only get it serviced at the dealership. the vehicle has always shifted weird from park into drive. at 75000 miles it began hard shifting into 1st and around 85000 miles it began to not want to shift from 1st into 2nd and especially 2nd back to 1st. now putting the car in reverse is causing problems. this issue with 1999 v-6 automatics is documented everywhere. the dealer said they are aware the issue is wide spread and can't do anything about it. honda has been aware of this problem as a wide spread defect and the nhtsa should put some pressure on honda to step-up. a well maintained engine should last more than 90k miles on this honda. not ok and honda knew and knows they built a car with a major defect.

1999 honda accord stalls while vehicle is in motion at all speeds. this is extremely hazardous since power steering and power brakes are lost. this has happened 4 times in the last month.

On the way back to home, suddenly there was burst sound, when i checked, the radiator tube had burst. i took it to the nearest mechanic, then he said, there was problem with radiator and he fixed the radiator. it worked well for a week and then started leaking of coolant. i took it again to the mechanic, then he said it may be a problem with head gasket or may be we have to replace the whole head. if it is the head gasket it will be 1200 to 1500. if it is the head then you end up spending up to 3000 to 3500. i can't imagine a case if this incident happens when i was on freeway at 70 mph. i have bought the car exactly one year back and i am the second owner of the car. when i checked on the web, there were a quite a few similar cases. god knows only why few cars from honda get this problem. my friend who is holding a similar car has 40k more miles on it and uses it without spending any money on maintenance.

My 99 honda accord ex shuts off while driving, this started almost two years ago. the car provides zero notice. i recently attended a auto parts shop for testing and they were unable to assist. i was directed to my local honda dealership. i researched the matter online and determined my car was on recall for this problem. i briefly remember receiving a recall notification by mail several years ago but did nothing. i called breakaway honda in greenville sc and was denied recall based on my vin. please help me with this matter. *tr

Just found out today from my mechanic during an oil change that oil was leaking into my antifreeze component. as a matter of fact, my oil chamber was near-empty and my antifreeze component was black and full of oil. he also said that he had seen other cases of this in this particular make and model where the engines had to be replaced. *tr

About 5 weeks ago, the engine of my 1999 honda accord ex (4-cylinder automatic) began dying while i am driving. three times i have been pulling into heavy traffic when the engine died, and i am lucky not to have been injured or killed in an accident. there are no visible, audible or tactical signs that the engine is about to shut down, and no indicator lights. the local honda dealer charged me $100 to evaluate the situation to no avail. use of fuel cleaner was their recommendation, but that did nothing to solve the problem. frustrated, i consulted the internet and found 43 separate similar complaints on carcomplaints.com. complainants all say that they have spent hundreds of dollars on going from dealer to dealer for diagnosis and a variety of repairs, none of which seem to resolve the problem. i doubt seriously that american honda is as ignorant of this problem as they claim to be, but they offer no help. please log onto carcomplaints.com to see how widespread and dangerous this problem appears to be. i'm sure this is just the tip of the iceberg. *tr

Since 2006 the car has been stalling (rpm's drop to zero and car turns off) started by stalling while on the freeway but would start right back up within seconds would happen once every 3 months. recently, the problem has accured everyday some time 3 times a day. i could be at a complete stop or on the freeway and the cars' rpm's just drop and all the lights battery light, oil light, check engine light, door and truck light turns on but the radio and a/c stay on. i have almost been rear ended on several occasions and have almost been run over by other motorist trying to push the car out of traffic. i contacted honda headquarters and they told me that there were no recalls on my car and told me it sounded like the ignition switch. so i immediately changed the ignition switch and the next day the car stalled again. i called honda they told me that the tumbler for the key had been recalled and was replaced back in 2003. i bought a new key as the old key was worn and the car did not stall for over 2 months but yesteday car stalled over 3 times. i have had a diagnositic done which said it is the catalytic converter which my mechanic says is totally unrealated to the stalling problem. but i plan to have a new one installed soon. i really need to get this stalling problem fixed immediately as this is problem could cause me or my son to get into an accident and be injuried or even killed. and based on the internet forums i am not the only one having this problem with my honda and honda headquarters doesn't seem like they plan on doing any thing to fix the problem. *tr

Bought this 99 honda accord dx 4 door 5 speed back in 2006 from a honda dealership. in the end of 2007 the car shut off on the high way while i was driving!!! thank god i didn't get into an accident! it then happened again a month later! it then happened quite frequently till i could no longer let the key go without it shutting off! when the car shuts off everything stops, including power steering!!! very dangerous!!! we looked over the car and looked online and found my car had a recall on it. we called honda's 1800 number and they told us the car had already been recalled and fixed in 2002 so they didn't have to do anything for us!!! so why then a couple of years later would the same problem be happening!? i am scared that if i go and have it fixed it will just shut off on me again in four years, or less!? did they just replace the faulty part with another faulty part?! i have read some of the forums on line and they seem to indicate that it could be the wiring to the ignition switch and not the whole part. we have rigged the car by hanging objects off of the keys to get it to stay on... i know it's only a matter of time before it stops altogether! honda refuses to take responsibility for they're products. they should not be aloud to continue this! how can we allow them to put unsafe vehicles on the road putting peoples life's in danger!? *tr

Mileage at start of problem,, app 60,000 now 130,000 in 08! i bought my 99 accord with 56,000 miles in 2003. i was called about the recall on the ignition switch, and honda replaced it for free, although at that time i was not having any problems. ok i started having problems with my car stalling. first time was on i40 going app 75. i was in the outer freaking lane and it just turned off. i lived with this very freaking hazardous problem for a long time because i didn't trust honda and money (just note one of the phone calls from honda the man told me he thought it was my ignition switch again and that they wouldn't be responsible for the cost of repair this freaking time but later decided it was something else,!)i was in college taking my emt practicals with an ems system and was having to drive to another county and be in contact via cell phone with honda, and borrow my dads truck!! they had my car for days and keep calling and asking if one of there mechanics could drive my car to lunch ,, and if they could take it home over night and so on, and finally said it wouldn't stall for them!!!!! i was

When starting from cold in the morning, the vehicle coughs and does not accelerate when the accelerator is pressed. after some time the check engine light came up. vehicle runs smoothly after engine warms up. mileage reduced from 29 mpg in city to 25 mpg. the mechanic said the check engine light was for lean fuel mixture. he reset the alarm and said nothing could be done. same problem has repeated several times. mechanic says that he has seen several vehicles with this problem and honda released a kit to solve it but i'll have to buy it. honda should recall all vehicles with this problem and install the kit. *jb

On monday, february 22, 2010, i was driving on the highway when the battery, abs and door lights suddenly displayed on the dashboard. the care was driving fine after this but about a mile later, the engine shut off. i noticed the drive belts had come off. roadside assistance was contacted to tow the car to the nearest location within 15miles. hence, the car was towed to my destination, then eventually towed to richfield-bloomington honda where they determined that the crankshaft key was installed incorrectly causing the pulley to be wobbly forcing the belts to come off while driving. brookdale honda performed the maintenance repair that has been linked to this incident since the crank shaft bolt was not tightened to the right torque. they are refusing to take responsibility for damage as a result of technician error. *tr

Re: 1999 honda accord lx (vin: jhmcg665xxc015188) while my wife was driving in a residential area at 25-30 mph (approx), the engine started making clanking noise and engine died. she let it rolled, pulled over and parked on the side of the street. we discovered that the main pulley broke loose and the drive belts came off the rollers due to a broken (sheared off) bolt that attached the pulley to the crankshaft. the car has only 61k miles on it and i thought that it was totally premature. the ball honda service rep told us that honda motors co. will not cover for the repair since the warranty expired, but this is totally premature i thought, and maybe it was caused by inferior material (bolt) and/or by poor quality workmanship (over-torque'd). the car has had regular maintenance service by honda dealer and has no previous engine work done except for the mfr recommended regularly-scheduled services.

My 1999 honda accord lx blew out an engine valve while on the highway driving 60 mph. honda service will not accept any responsibility for the failure of the engine. at the time the car had only 110k miles. apparently, it is due to a defective valve design.

I took my 1999 honda accord to my local honda dealer for a check engine light at 78,000 miles was told there was no code in the computer and my gas cap was the culprit. they said they reset computer and all was good well if you reset the computer this means you cleared any codes witch oh by the way there were not any codes right... low and behold at just after 84000 miles the light comes back on ,and this time there is a code cat and o2 sensor no good 1,100.00 dollars later im sent on my way. now at 126,000 the infamous p1457 code rears its ugly head and read that honda may have extended the emissions warranty to 14 years/130,000 miles. if this is true why was i charged for cat and o2 sensor back at 84,000 miles???lets just say im not a very happy honda customer right now. *tr

The oxygen sensor has been replaced on the 1999 honda accord. *ts the oxygen sensor has been replaced every two years since 2001. the tires have been replaced twice since the car was purchased new in 1999. the tires have dry rot and cracked on the sidewall. the tire have been rotated frequently and the tread is very good but the tires need to be replaced before they reach their mileage warranty (michelin tires). *nm

This problem effects emissions, which the government has mandated an extension on honda warranties to 8 year/ 80,000 miles. this appears to be a fairly common problem. one to which the honda corporation fails to respond. there appears to be either a faulty indication of emission problems or parts that are truly defective - wearing out before their normal life expectancy.*ak

Consumer states that after filling the gas tank, the check enging lights comes on and stays on, this occurs because gas is leaking into the spark plug, which may cause an engine fire. consumer was informed by dealer that she has to click her cap 3 times to avoid this problem. nlm consumer stated that check engine light came on. dealer diagnosed bad evaporative canister control valve and replaced the valve. *yh

Check engine light came on. had the dealer check for the code which came up as p1491, egr valve issue. there is documented recall/note for this major design defect part, but only for 8yr/80k miles. i called american honda and asked for good faith/if they would pay for the repair. am/honda refused my request. my 99 accord ex v6 has 130k miles. this is a known documented design flaw. emission parts should last the life of the car. had to shell out $300 for that repair. i have owned 7 other honda's plus this car. this is the first time i have had this type of issue. american honda needs to do better. i am seriously considering changing car brands, possibly switching to toyota. *jb

On sunday, august 7, 2005, my check engine light came on. i referred to the owner's manual and followed the instructions as written. that did not resolve the problem so i took my car to a local honda repair shop for a diagnostic test. they indicated that the catalytic converter failed and they quoted me $1100 to complete the repairs. i do not have this kind of money laying around. i also noticed that there are 8 complaints on this website regarding this same issue with the catalytic converter. how many complaints does it take before a recall is issued? not only will i have to continue driving with this problem because i can't afford to fix it, but i will be polluting the environment at the same time. i guess i need to file a complaint with the epa as well. please do something to address this problem as soon as possible. *nm

P0420 code - check engine light is on - catalyst efficiency below threshold - bank 1 nly 6 years old and 95,000 miles. from what i have read on many sites, this is a systematic problem with this model car and people can't afford $1100 to get the catalytic converter replaced and therfore continue to drive the car with the check engine light on, while polluting the environment and possibly overlooking other failures that may be more safety critical because of the light always being on.*ak

Honda accord 1999, engine check light indicates catalytic converter failure, which is an expensive repair caused by a design flaw whereby lean fuel mixtures produce low emmissions, but also burn up the catalyst bed. the failure is systemic and happens between 80,000 and 130,000 miles. many families cannot afford the repair and since it is not critical, it will be left unattended, which leads to environmental deterioration and the immediate risk of driving with the warning light already illuminated.*ak

This is a follow-up to a previous complaint - 10020962 from last year. low and behold, 4 months after my brake rotors were turned and repaired, the brakes started to warp again. the honda dealership would not re-repair them - they indicated that the aftermarket brake pads on the front were causing the problem (the brake pads were fine). i took my car to another facility - one that fixes and maintains race cars - they indicated that auto makers are using lighter (and less durable) parts to enhance mpg ratings - which is more likely the cause of this problem with my honda accord, as well as with other types of vehicles. the good news was that while my car was in, i was able to get the recall on the ignition switch fixed, and at the same time, they indicated that my car needs a new catalytic converter - i believe this is the same issue many honda owners are facing - check engine light comes on about 3-4 months into each new gas cap. i've had 4 for this vehicle (and have not lost any). i've never replaced a gas cap in my life before, just as i have never had brake rotor problems before. the only good thing i could say was that they did not charge me the diagnostic fee - given the problems i've had, i would hope not. i ended up having the o2 filter / sensor (whatever it is) replaced at another facility - which took care of a drop in mileage issue i was experiencing. the bad news for honda is that i am probably going back to toyota - i would love to have another honda if the dealership would stand behind their vehicles or make me an offer i can't refuse (with a decent trade in on this vehicle)...i'm in the market for a 2004-2005 small to med suv...i loved some aspects of my accord, but need a new, larger vehicle to haul my daughter back and forth to college. ps: since i know the rotors won't last, i'm not repairing them anymore. this is obviously a faulty design for this model. *jb

The check engine light came on within days after my 1999 honda accord ex v6 had 90k service at a honda dealership, including a fuel induction service. the first trip back to the dealer resulted in the service department recording the code in their computer then turning the indicator lamp off in my accord. the check engine lamp returned soon after leaving the dealership. on the 2nd visit, the dealership advised that the code indicated the egr valve was clogged. the service manager advised that honda had extended the warranty for this problem but only for 8 years/80,000 miles. my car has 92k miles yet i was never advised of this known problem. the honda dealership's own testing during the 90k service did not detect the emission problem and i see that many others with less mileage have experienced the same problem.
