Update to odi 10444643 filed 1/20/12. i was attempting to turn left at a highway intersection and the honda totallt stalled and the green key light came on the dash. the vehicle did not lose total power but it stalled while a fast vehicle approached from the right. i was afraid i would not get through the intersection without a wreck. it was a terrifying experience. after that first experience the vehicle totally lost power while at a stop sign in a mall. it took 2 attempts to restart car. i could not imagine what the problem could possibly be so i researched the possible problem and found that this honda had ignition switch problems. i purchased the vehicle in 2007 and it had approximately 121,200 miles. the vehicle was recalled in 2002 due to a defect in the ignition switch. am ignition switch update was completed on 10/1/02 at 59,183 miles. by an authorized honda dealer. i have had no issues until jan 2012. looks like i will have to replace this switch again but it is too dangerous to not address the problem. can't imagine this problem at 70 mph. update; took the vehicle to honda dealer on 1/23/12 and told the tech what i thought the problem was. the test showed it was indeed the ignition switch once again . the cost for replacing was $206. 36. . so, honda's recall in 2002 did not correct this defect.

My primary concern is the engine trouble with my 1999 accord. when i need to accelerate the car misfires according to the gresham honda dealership. this is where the car is being serviced. contact name and number would be mark cawthorn @ 503-676-7070. i am very hesitant to pull out in traffic at any speed because i never know when my car will misfire. at times the acceleration sticks at both 2-3rpms. basically, there is no acceleration. the check engine light no longer comes on when the car hesitates. the first two times that the car was taken to the honda dealership the check light did come on. my car is currently on it's 5th stay with honda. they(honda and their technicians) seem to have no idea what the problem was. hopefully the problem will be resolved easily and most importantly, quickly. i'd hate to be the cause of an accident. equally as important, i have had a failure with my abs. while there was no accident, i barely stopped at the intersection while brakes locked up on pavement. i have had passengers in my vehicle on such occasions and each would be willing to give tesimonies to such failures as listed above. in fact, the honda technician has also experienced the misfire first hand in my accord. i may be a little difficult to reach with college and two jobs but please feel free to leave messages at either phone number. thank you for your time, amber weimerskirch. *ak (tiresize: w-10)

Engine hestitates/lurches forward at any speed when using regular unleaded gasoline. problem less frequent when using premium gas, but is causing carbon buildup on throttle body over time, which leads to the accelerator sticking. local dealer stated they have been aware of this problem. dealer suggested lower grade gasoline to prevent carbon buildup. dealer offered no explaination why engine is hesitating.*ak

I was driving to work as usual, when my accelerator pedal got stuck while trying to find a parking space. it was a cold morning, around 12 degrees, so i first thought that i was slipping on ice and had no control of the car. once off the icy patch, my car continued to take off on me, even with my foot on the brakes. it actually continued to speed up and that was the moment i knew i was in trouble. i was in the parking lot when this happened, so i did not have alot of room or time to put it in neutral or actually jump out. i sped out of the entry, through the street, over the curb, through the fence and landed on railroad ties, that thankfully high centered me, and another fence that ultimately stopped me. both bags deployed and my car was totaled. once i knew that i was o.k., i put the car in park, and the engine was still revving. that, i know, is not right. the whole time i could smell burnt rubber or brakes. i know the difference between my gas and brake pedal, and i definitely had my brakes applied. why would i want to cause this kind of damage to my car and especially myself ? i could have actually killed myself or someone else. if it was not for the railroad ties that high centered me. i would have gone right through the second fence and ended up, who knows where. i definitely had an angel watching over me. i am so upset and sore that i don't know what to do. i spent all day on the internet looking at other incidents involving the same make and model with accelerator problems, especially in cold weather. i guess this is not just driver error that everyone seems to think, now is it. *tr

Dt: the consumer stated 1999 honda accord i had carbon build up in the throttle, which is resulted in the throttle sticking. regardless, of how long the vehicle sat, when the consumer gave the vehicle gas, the throttle stuck. it did not matter if it was in reverse or forward. this problem was intermittent, and has been happening for the past 4 to 5 years. this has been reported this to the dealer. they suggested that she bring it in for a throttle cleaning, which she did. the mechanic from the dealership told her that she would have to have this done again because it would continue to happen. the consumer called the dealership and the manufacturer, and they have been of no help. and often refer her to have the throttle cleaned again at her cost. at this rate, the throttle would have to be cleaned every few months. at this point, the throttle is sticking and needs to be cleaned, but the owner suggested that this should be covered by the manufacturer as a safety improvement or recall. *ak *jb
