ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING

This is a manufacturer's fault as it is mentioned on the web as well as by auto shops about the transmission. the car can stop anytime! i have spent thousands of $$ already fixing other parts and cannot fix this problem as this is a known problem/default from the manufacturers. please all raise your voice and have the company take care of this as they are not helping me in this matter!

The balance shaft seal pop out is known issue (defect) since day1, however, american honda motor company was trying to cover it up and my year model (2000) was intentionally not included in the original recall list in order for them to reduce the cost by risking people's life. however, if you google it, 2000 year and even later model are all over the places. honda motor company was betting on its dealer would be supposed to put a retainer on top of the seal when the car is due on its first timing belt replacement. however, it did not happen, the net result is it costs me over $720 to fix it and i was fortunate enough the engine was not blown up (and i had not been killed) on the highway because of the empty engine oil resulted from this sudden sealed being popped out (the oil would be gone seconds after pop out happens). worst yet, after this incident happened, i contacted with american honda motor talked with todd with some japanese last name who had very bad attitude and very unprofessional, simply flatted out and told me i am sorry and we can not help in anyway. i believe it is time to do the right thing and gradually drive this very foreign motor company out of us, they do not care our lives here in us anymore.

In march of 2008, my 2000 accord se honda's transmission failed and had to be replaced at 122,206 miles; i had to pay for a rebuilt replacement transmission, today i was informed that i will need yet another transmission by honda, that my car is not safe to drive until the repair is completed, and that the three-year or 36,000-mile warranty will only extend as far as the original warranty (that is roughly another 15,000 miles or until march 2012). the current transmission only functioned for less than 21000 miles. i do not understand why there has been no recall for this model's potentially catastrophic failure of a transmission. even though i was not in an accident, i easily could have been as i have to commute 44 miles a day to work. clearly, if the second identical failure happened in so short a time, there is a serious flaw---one with potentially lethal consequences that needs to be investigated.

Tl*the contact owns a 2000 honda accord. after the vehicle was started, the air bag and service engine indicators illuminated on the instrument panel. the vehicle was driven to the dealer and they performed a diagnostic, but found no defects. immediately following, the contact noticed that the cooling fan would remain activated for long periods of time after the vehicle was turned off. she also stated that she could only place half a tank of gasoline in the vehicle. the vehicle would stall when it had a full tank of fuel. the vehicle was driven to the dealer a second time for a diagnostic and no defects were found. the cause of the failures have not been determined. the manufacturer has not been notified and the vehicle has not been repaired. the current mileage was 199,259 and failure mileage was 180,000.

Tl*the contact owns a 2000 honda accord. the contact noticed that the srs warning light would consistently illuminate on the instrument control panel, which indicated that the air bags were inoperative. she took the vehicle to the dealer on two occasions and they performed routine maintenance, which temporarily corrected the issue. weeks later, the failure recurred and the engine warning light illuminated on the instrument panel. she took her vehicle back to the dealer and they stated that she needed to replace both components at the discounted cost of $2,600. the vehicle has not been repaired. the contact sent a letter to the manufacturer, but never received a response. the vin was unknown. the failure mileage was 100,000 and current mileage was 122,000.

I noticed when i stopped my car made an abnormal idol noise. i took my car into the local honda dealer who proceeded to inform me that the spark plug in my car was stripped and the threading coils were now completely stripped as well and the cylinder head needs replaced. the spark plug in the car is a genuine honda spark plug which if this is not caused by normal wear then it must have been poor workmanship. honda is only willing to pay for half of the damage (total cost is $2000.75) i am stuck because i do not feel i should pay for damages that were incurred while the spark plugs were placed by honda. *jb

The case # is n012005121900955. this is my story: i was driving north on i-5 in heavy traffic. when i slowed down to about 40 miles an hour my car just died. i was able to barely able start the car and slowly drove off the off the road less than 50 feet. i barely made it off the road. i had no clue happened. up to that point car ran good. fortunately i was on the far right lane. it could have been disastrous with all the traffic. i wonder if any accidents have been caused by harmonic balancer coming loose and loosing all power? both fan belts were off. upon further inspection by the hi way rescue team, he noticed that the harmonic balancer was not inline. i called tacoma honda the following morning and inquired about the harmonic balancer coming loose on honda engines and the service manager said he hasn't heard any problems. so i had the car towed to a mechanic friend of mine, vin, and he repaired. vin informed me that he worked on one who had the same thing happen about the same day on a 1999 honda with less miles. also his friend had a harmonic balance come loose on a prelude. i don't know what year this car was made. this cannot be just a tacoma, washington problem. i asked the parts manager about harmonic balancers coming loose and he said he has heard of it. a harmonic balancer should never come loose for 2 reasons. one, it is tighten so tight that you can not loosen it with a impact wrench. two, it turn against the direction of the thread. this is what carla told me this morning that she is not aware of any problems similar to what i experienced. i will wait for a week for any feedback from you. if your research finds no problems with harmonic balancer coming loose i would like to know. you should be able to find out how many harmonic balancers has been sold or replaced. i will write to nhtsa to see if this is a fluke that happened in tacoma or more widespread. *nm

I bought my honda accord this september. it had a rebuilt title due to minor dents and blemishes to the outside. no major wrecks. looked and seemed in good condition. dealer assured me that all of his cars were insurance claims due to minor exterior wear. he didn't take any cars that had been involved in wrecks. he was an engineer and didn't need to screw people over for money. i had my mechanic inspect it right away because it had a 30 day return policy, no questions asked. my regular mechanic said the engine was fine but there were minor things i needed such as; new rotors, new tires, and something to do with the emergency brake. his secretary said these were all optional things to have fixed. 1 month later...the radiator goes bad and must be replaced. my regular mechanic charges me $600.00 dollars for the procedure. i compare prices and find a better price for the same radiator. unfortunately, my regular mechanic still charges me $70.00 for his opinion. i go to the cheaper place, get a new radiator and have my rotors replaced. since about 2 weeks after owning the car i notice that the srs airbag light flashes on and off randomly. a $80.00 diagnostic check was performed and nothing showed up. my mechanic didn't notice it when he drove it. i still don't know if my airbags work! a month after that..transmission goes bad when in reverse. makes a terrible grinding of metal sound and lurches when put in reverse. probably needs a new transmission which i have no way to pay for. luckily, it is only a problem during the cold and/or when i first start the engine. im very worried about the safety of my car and myself! because i've had 3 different people assure me the car is in good shape, only to find out about or have a major problem occur. i don't feel safe in my mystery car! i bought a honda after being a loyal toyota customer because i thought they had the best reputation for long lasting vehicles. i'm thinking i made a mistake. please help lessen my worries. *tr

I have had my transmission go out twice in my 2000 honda accord. each time, the gears start clunking while shifting and shorty after the transmission fails and is completely useless. currently, my car will rev up like it's in neutral and then spontaneously slam into gear and slip back into neutral again which has, again, ruined the transmission. this is a recurrent problem and nothing has been done to make the issue better.
02/01/20101130001
During a normal drive and then a stop at a red light, car's engine stalls. after auto shop examination, the conclusion was that the ball bearing in the engine's tensioner locked up, thus throwing the timing belt off and bending valves due to incorrect timing. a whole new engine was required to fix it because of the extensive damage. old engine has been removed and replaced and i don't think it would be available. *tr

Surge on acceleration. from a cold start my car excels normally. if make a stop for a few minutes or a couple of hours get in and it accelerates to about 20-25mph and dies. if i hold the pedal it will accel after a few second, if i pump the pedal a couple of time it will accel. cruising at 65+ i can feel a slight jerking. this all started after getting a check engine light and code po131 to replace the primary o2 sensor. a new sensor was the oem equivalent from autozone. if i disconnect the o2 sensor the problem goes away. car is well maintained and has 228,000 miles. *tr

My malfunction indicator lamp' on my 6 cylinder 2000 honda accord came on. the dealer let me know that their diagnostics pointed to a problem with cylinder #4. he had me authorize a $1000 tear down the engine estimate in case my extended warranty didn't cover the repair. american honda corp sent their adjuster to determine that it was excessive carbon build up in the engine which is not covered by my extended warranty. the dealer had the parts sent to a machinist to determine if there is a damaged part in the cylinder that would be covered under warranty. i have been given a $2300 approximate repair bill to pay on my own if no damage is found. not that long ago, i spent $300 at the dealership cleaning a carbon build up problem that was causing my accelerator to stick. *nm

At 84,366 miles my car's check engine light came on. took accord to mechanic and was told the egr valve error code appeared. the mechanic said to take to honda due to recall for this part. picked car up from mechanic and car also had srs light on. researched online since i already have recall for dash light. found many other honda owners with same srs light. found out my air bags will not function if sensor illuminated. also, called honda and they said i was beyond the mileage (80k) for the extended warranty on the defective egr valve replacement. asked what honda was doing about the front airbags and was told no decision has been made. i have also discovered my car has the extended warranty for defective/faulty transmission. so when i'm driving down the highway my tranmsmission may give out at high rate of speed and if collsion occurs, my air bags will not deploy. my seat weld joint broke at 54k too! i used a 99 toyota 4runner as replacement vehicle and discovered the seatbelt warning light came on when my 40lb. dog sat in passenger front seat. my accord never has detected my dog in the front seat ever! this car is riddled with safety defects and poor manufacturing. honda should be held responsible for protecting the owners from injury including monetary repairs/ replacement costs for all of these safety defects and engine defects. *nm

I have a 2000 honda accord lx v6 4door sedan. after the vehicle has been driven for about 20 minutes, the engine failed to start after it was shut off for 5-10 minutes. the first time this happened, the car was only 2 years old. each time i try to restart the engine, the engine would turnover and run for about 2 seconds and then stalled. each time i would have to depress the gas to get the engine going and if i release the gas, the engine would die. the engine sounds like it's running out of gas and just die. the strange part is if i can get the car in gear and drive with the gas applied for about one block, the engine would return to normal. this can be dangerous since i have to depress the gas and brake at the same time so the vehicle would stay in control. i went to the dealer and they hooked up some kind of computer to the car and they said they were unable to find any problem. the accord is a nice car but this constant engine-starting problem needs to be addressed. *nm

Experiencing a thump as the ingition is released from the start position or as the engine starts.this noise occurs only on a cold start, usually overnight. dealer mechanic tells me that the noise appears to be coming from the rear motor mount. honda has issued a service bulletin pertaining to this noise, but the dealer mechanic tells me that hnnda's service engineers tells him that the service bulletin pertains to the honda 4cyl only, and not the 6cyl it seems to me that the service bulletin issued for the 2000 honda 4cyl. should also cover the 2000 honda 6cyl. in closing i might add that this same type noise has also been heard in the honda 2001 6cyl. thank you for your help.

I backed out of a parking spot and proceeded through the parking lot and turned left onto busy road. all of the sudden the car shut off and i was stuck in the middle of oncoming traffic. i was able to re-start the engine and made it safely to my next stop. when i tried to start the engine again it started but shut off right away. this happened several times. i had the vehicle towed to the dealership and it started when it got there and they said it was probably due to the type of gas i used. they said that gas stations switch to a different type of fuel in the fall/winter and that it can cause this to happen.*aky

The honda accord 3.0 v-6 engine has a hesitiation problem at all speeds anytime that the engine is placed upon a slight load condition, such as going up any grade. honda indicates that they consider this to be an acceptable 'driveability condition' and refuse to even attempt to correct. i have been advised by another honda service representative that honda has attempted many times to correct the problem but have been unable to do so. that being the case, honda should be forced to state in all their sales promotional literature to prospective buyers that the 3.0 v-6 has a driveability condition which honda can not or will not be fixing. if i had been made aware of the 'driveability problem' before the purchase, i would never have purchased the automobile, but would have gone to another manufacturer.

I have reason to believe the accord i purchased is unsafe. there is a hesitation at 40 mph. i feel unsafe in this vehicle, and that if someone were following to closely when the hesitation occurs and my cars speed decreases then i am subject to possibly be rear ended potentially causing myself or passengers to be injured. i was never told of this so called normal function as honda has stated. i feel as though i should have been told and the vehicle has been misrepresented, and that i at that time could have opted to purchase another vehicle. honda refuses to do anything, i have spoken to and written about this to them. thank you. *ak

Tl*the contact owns a 2000 honda accord. the contact noticed that the engine warning indicator illuminated on the instrument control panel. she took the vehicle to the dealer and they stated that there was exhaust gas recirculation and clogging. the manufacturer issued technical service bulletin number 626561 (engine and engine cooling:exhaust system:emission control:gas recirculation valve (egr valve)). the failure exceeded the constraints for the voluntary warranty extension campaign; therefore, the manufacturer would not assist with the repairs. she also noticed that the air bag warning indicator would sporadically illuminate on the instrument control panel, which indicated that the passenger side front air bag was inoperative. on one occasion, a vehicle driving approximately 80 mph crashed into the front passenger side of the contact's vehicle. the front passenger side air bag failed to deploy. the occupant sustained moderate injuries. the manufacturer would not assist. the failure mileage was 1,000 and current mileage was 90,000.

*tr

Dt: the check engine light came on. the consumer had taken the vehicle to a mechanic, and they found the code p1457. then he took it to a dealership, which found the same code when checking for the problem. they said that it was because there was an internal problem with the evaporation system. discovered a leak within the system by doing a smoke test. it was in a canister in the emission system. they replaced the canister and the valve that was connected with it, parts 17011s84a00 and 17310s84l31. the consumer contacted the manufacturer, who told the consumer that they had no other complaints about this issue. the consumer was concerned because he had found other complaints involving the code p1457 on a website, www.answer.com. *ak
