I was driving my honda accord on a residential street, when the transmission started to shift erratically. the d4 light started to flash and the 'check engine' light came on. the honda dealership that serviced the vehicle told me that the transmission had failed. this from a car that i had purchased six weeks earlier. luckily the incident happened on a vacant road and not a highway on-ramp where smooth shifting is a life or death scenario.

Transmission was starting to jerk forward and balking when starting from a start. transmission started to over heat. my son said that the car seamed to just give out on highway and scared him as it caused a strange feeling of something terrible wrong. now when transmission is put into reverse a very startling noise like a loud bang is happening. now i am afraid to let my son because of safety reasons use it. i am on a fixed income and i always take care of this car, but this is just going to break me to try to get fixed. i have read so many complaints since i started to investigate this problem that i just can't believe that honda and the nhtsa has not remedied this dangerous and expensive problem. i had the same problem with toyota on rusting frame rails that almost killed me and my daughter. i had to try to sell my tacoma truck at more than half its resale value, because toyota just like honda just wont admit or fix this serious problem. by the time the nhtsa did get toyota to do something about the unsafe frame rust most of us owners had already had to try to get what ever money we could try to get. it was horrible to lose all that money and try to get another vehicle. now honda is playing with nhtsa and it is starting all over again for a lot of us honda owners.what more can us owners do to get our fair share. i know i filed a complaint against toyota and now honda. i hope nhsta does something fast because as of now i have no car to use. lets right this now. i know that a lot of hard working people deserve better than what honda is even thinking of doing or not doing to right this problem.

Abnormal downshifting of gears. hardshifting gears between 1 and 2. reported this issue to honda dealer in year 2006 and they said its all okay and no issues. i experienced the same issue over the years. when i initially reported this issue in 2006 for my accord was covered under honda extended warranted for transmission recall, but the honda dealer refused to acknowledge this issue. in year 2010, another honda dealer diagnosed it as a transmission failure, when the car was out of warrantee. i have gone to independent repair shops and they also confirm its a transmission issue due to internal mechanical issue. honda customer service is denying the warruntee coverage even though the first instance of report was done while the vehicle was in wanruntee period.

The first failure was in 2003. while i was driving on the highway my transmission went out completely in traffic. i was able to get off the street before the car completely stopped. the repair was done in 2003 during a national recall. the car started showing signs of slipping in 2009 . i contacted honda about the replacement transmission and they said it was out of warranty. the transmission completely failed in march, 2010. i was traveling at 55 mph when the car started to lose power. this is the second incident with tis car where the transmission went out while i was driving this car.

I have a 2000 honda accord with an automatic transmission and v6 engine. on 12/13/2008, the transmission was shifting hard and check engine light came on. the transmission has to be rebuilt at the tune of $3200. here has been yearly service done to prevent any other issues. on 12/28/11, the tranmission was shifting hard, engine light came on and a p740 code was found. clearly this is a faulty transmission design and a recall should be in order. there are many people that had the same issues from years 1999 to 2001. this issue is a hazard.
10/24/201162000
I am the original owner and bought my 2000 honda accord brand new from the same dealership that has done 99% of the maintenance on the vehicle, minus a few oil changes. the car has had a hard shift at times for approximately a year. i had never thought much about it until the last few weeks when the car started to rev up at low gears and then violently jerking to shift to higher gear. this in addition to also displaying check engine light constantly while green d or drive light is blinking. when this occurs the car will not accelerate when gas pedal is depressed for a few seconds and then will slowly begin to go. i was almost rear ended twice on my way home with my 7 year old son in his booster seat. the car would act like it was going to go and then i had no power, could not even get over to the curb. closest dealership is 30 minutes away via interstate and after reading multiple online complaints and stories of near fatal accidents online i am at a loss as to how to handle this. dealership told me it was okay to drive as long as engine light was steadily on. luckily, i am in walking distance to my job, but i need to make a decision on how to proceed. it appears that honda has known of the defective transmission, but i never received a letter in the mail alerting me to the fact i was facing possible total transmission failure that could have endangered not only myself, but my small son and those drivers around me. i have read that honda will not offer any financial compensation for replacement of the defective transmission. i am going to continue to research the issue, but if this is accurate it is a shame as i have owned two honda's and always bragged about how much i loved driving my honda. not thrilled about owning a vehicle made by a company who is aware of a serious safety hazard and does not do a better job of alerting their loyal customers.
09/01/2011100000
Transmission in 2000 honda accord was diagnosed by two mechanics (independent and honda dealer) as requiring replacement quoted at over $3800. symptoms included: gear shift slippage, d4 indicator light flashing, delayed gear engagement, erratic and harsh shifting resulting in the car lurching forward while in drive, atf leak, erratic acceleration, and the left differential diagnosed with excessive play. car had been well maintained, keeping all fluid levels monitored and in check with routine maintenance. after calling honda america, i was told that due to age the company's position was that they were unable to provide assistance of any kind despite previous reports of the transmission in 2000 accords as being a known manufacturer's error/faulty production. honda admitted error on the issue but remained firm that they would not support resolution. am left with vehicle in undrivable condition that is unsafe on the road due to erratic transmission behavior. at one point, the vehicle lurched forward uncontrollably, nearly hitting a pedestrian. request nhtsa follow-up and investigation of ongoing transmission issues with these vehicles, encouraging consumer resolution options for honda owners. resolution should not be limited to age of vehicle when safety of consumers and other drivers are at hand. these vehicles should not be allowed on the road with faulty transmissions. had i been aware of the safety issue, i would not have purchased my honda. thank you!
10/27/2010126000
After driving my 2000 honda v6 coupe for 30 minutes or more, it would have problems starting if shut off for about 20 minutes. it would start and then stall. the only way to get it started is to give it gas and shift into gear quickly which is dangerous. also there was a tsb 00-024 for this and i got it done for close to $710. this really isn't fair as i didn't do anything wrong to have this issue. it is clearly a case of a manufacturing defect.

04/20/2008170000
Tl*the contact owns a 2000 honda accord. the contact stated that the key could be removed from the ignition without the vehicle being placed into park. the shifter would also display that the vehicle was in park and drive at the same time. the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign id number 05v025000 (electrical system:ignition:switch), although the failures were identical. the failure and current mileages were less than 170,000.

I continue to get these e-mail updates and my problems with my 2000 honda accord sound so eerily familiar. i had 2 major issues with my honda beginning well before 70,000 miles. i too was meticulous about maintaining my vehicle every 3 month at the dealer. first i experienced a transmission failure. they replaced it under the recall...within 3 weeks the replaced transmission failed. they replaced it again; i then found out that it was replaced with a rebuilt transmission and not a new one. shortly thereafter, i experience all kinds of check engine light codes. it was never ending for 6 months...of course everything was my fault. the dealer insisted that i replaced my own radiator fluid and that my radiator needed to be replaced. trust me, i am not mechanical whatsoever. it was always serviced by the dealer...finally i got california involved and after alot of hubabaloo it was decided that i might not need a radiator after all after an experienced tech came out to look at the engine and cooling system. long story short, california called me and told me that my radiator needed to be replaced and they were certain that the engine issues would go away. this was all at 70,000 miles. this car was purchased brand new from the very same dealer. i find it ironic that other folks are having the same issues and are being jerked around in the same manner. i am a single mother of an autistic child living in the ne; i could not afford the car failing me on a cold winter day in the middle of no where. i traded it in and purchased another vehicle. i want nothing to do with honda's for the remainder of my lifetime! *tr

Service department tested the accuracy of the speedometer unit and found it to be off by 8-10%

The srs light stays on. not sure if airbags will work in a collision. dealer will try to fix with new srs control modules. speedometer head unit is up to 13% off (depending on speed) and is somewhat unresponsive to minor speed changes. disconcerting while driving in traffic since i can't verify my actual speed due to the slow to respond and inaccurate speedometer unit readout. this leads to overaccelerating or overdeccelerating while driving in traffic in an attempt to hold local speed zone laws. verified by a pgm test at local dealer. no fix for the speedometer head unit for now...told by honda customer relations to wait for a possible fix in november 2000. the driver's power seat makes a clunking noise while driving, not sure why. finally, while driving in traffic many times when i press the accelerator pedal the car does not respond very quickly or even falls flat for a second before it goes, pretty disconcerting at times, especially at intersections.
12/25/1999112/01/1999
Speedometer is not accurate. it appears to be from 7 to 10 mph off from surrounding traffic. dealer claims it is within the 10% allowable difference. this is unacceptable. they tell us when it reads 65 we are actualling going 60. they have not provided any documentation to support the inaccuracy. *ak

I'd drive down the freeway or up a hill to get to a parking structure at school and the car would stall and slip gears where i thought it would roll backwards or people behind me would get annoyed and pass at relatively close and high speeds. i was on my way home from work one night when the transmission completely went out on me roughly 2 blocks away from my house. i barely could make it over 10 mph and had my car sit in the parking lot for 6 months. my brother has put in a new battery and suggested i put new transmission fluid in, but the fluid is full and the car still slips. i knew it was a transmission problem which is more complicated since i know that's a lot more pricey than what i can afford right now, and all i want is for my car to be in working order again since this car should last a lot longer s ince it's been taken care of.

2000 honda accord whining noise -dealer inspected -said okay to drive.within twenty miles - car stopped moving forward - manually shifted gears - worked temporarily until got car stopped in parking lot - then nothing - towed back to dealer and received diagnosis next day of transmission failure. surprised because dealer had changed transmission at 33,000 under an extended warranty due to known transmission problems. no recall per manufacturer, but offer warranty due to their concern. online reports on www.carcomplaints.com show hundreds of similar problems. this transmission only had 19,000 miles and now needs to be replaced again. this car is owned by an 84 year old woman who has owned it from the beginning. think this warrants a closer look since its pretty dangerous to have a transmission go out without warning while driving down the road. now we have to decide if this car is worth fixing if this is a repetitive defect.

I have a 2000 honda accord se - 4 cylinder. sometimes when i take my car from park to reverse, i get a thud sound. i didn't think anything about it. at around 120,000 miles, when i put my car in reverse, the car won't move. when i step on the gas to try to get the car to move in reverse, the engine revs, but the car still won't move. i put the car back to park and then put in into reverse and it will be fine. if i am parked on a slanted surface where the front end of my car is sitting lower then the back and i try to put my car into reverse, the car rolls forward, but not reverse. one time i had to put my car into park, then reverse, park then reverse about 20 times to get out of the parking space. because my car is over the warranty period, my local honda dealer won't do anything about it. my husband seems to think that my transmission is slipping and someday i am going to be stuck. we don't have the $2000 to $4000 to have a new transmission put in. i thought hondas were a long lasting car? i bought my car brand new and hoped to get my years out of it before i had to put major money into it. has anyone else had this problem? *tr

I currently own a 2000 honda accord ex v4. while driving my son to school last week friday, the check engine light came on and the d4 light also began to blink. my car immediately lost all power and while pressing on the accelerator the car would not move. with other cars behind me this could have easily caused a huge accident with my son in the car. after taking my car to the repair shop, i was told that my transmission needed to be rebuilt and this could cost up to $3000. i went to another shop for a second opinion and they changed the solenoids. after a week of driving fine, the same incident occurred again while bringing my son to school. currently the car is back in the shop to have the torque converter changed or to possibly have the transmission rebuilt. while searching online, i have noticed that this is an ongoing problem with early 2000 honda accords and all that has been done is an extension on this warranty which does me no good since i am past it. anything done to rectify this problem would be a big help especially considering that it would have been a huge safety issue had i been driving on the highway at 70 miles an hour in moving traffic. *tr

I have a 2000 honda accord ex 4cyl 2.3l 2 door. i purchased the vehicle used from duval honda 1290 cassat ave jacksonville florida 32205 (904-899-1900) in april of 2008. the car drove perfectly for about 30 days then the transmission started to slip while i was driving. now the transmission jerks into every gear as it shifts and slips out of gear frequently while i am driving. not knowing if a recall for this problem existed i have been shopping around for transmissions to find they cost between $1400 and $3000 to be replace to include labor. this is unacceptable because all stores are informing me the problem will return soon with this specific transmission. i have done several internet searches to find i am not thee only honda owner with this issue and i am writing to inform you of my concerns with this vehicle also. the car was purchased with 68k miles or so and is now around 80k for miles. this are not normal areas of mileage where a transmission should be failing. i feel this unsafe and chronic problem should be fixed by honda, either by a factory recall (100% paid for by honda) or a total buy back of this vehicle since they have so blatantly and purposely sold defective and unsafe vehicles placing not only myself and my passengers but all drivers on the road in danger. if this problem continues i know that the transmission will cease to work and i may be responsible for causing a traffic accident and hurting someone because of this mechanical defect honda has chosen to ignore. i am hoping this letter will help aide in a push to get honda to rectify this problem. *tr

Transmission not engaging nor shifting into gear properly . whenever i start the engine after sitting overnight, the transmission doesn't pick up speed normally. now whenever i start the car and drive off, the rpms go up fairly quickly, but the car accelerates slowly and lurches forward with a thud. and the check engine light is on and the d4 gear indicator light is blinking green. i only had 119,500 miles when this level of symptom manifested itself... now i'm at 120,000. yesterday (08/25/2008) i called american honda 1-800-999-1009 to complain of the issues i've been experiencing. american honda said that i had to bring my car into a dealership and have them diagnose it. (fyi - i'd already spent over $660 at another reputable shop to have the problem repaired without resolution...but, they did say that given all the work they'd done, it could only be the transmission). ironically, during the call the rep could hear that the car was revving at high rpms but wouldn't shift into d4. fearful of a fire or blown transmission, i had to pull over, turn off the engine, and restart after 5 minutes. the dealership informed me that it would still be a mandatory $89 charge to diagnose something both they and i already know. the voluntary extension of the warranty from 100k to 109k is ridiculous. i suspect that there is a very large contingent of honda owners who have, already had, or will soon have the same problem. like many others here that i've read, we got a honda based on their reputation of their transmissions lasting over 200k+ miles. up until this, i'd been mostly happy with the way it drove (despite the lifelong and moderately annoying tendency for the car to jump into gear from dead stops despite gradual application of the gas pedal). i certainly hope that posting here helps result in a class action lawsuit because i really feel like i'm getting taken advantage of. it's me (hopefully us) against the big corporation. *tr

Transmission failure. i have a 2000 honda accord that fell into the category of having a faulty transmission by honda's own acknowledgement. instead of offering a recall they offered an extended warranty to 109k. well my car has a 130,000 miles. i am extremely upset that after being told this car should go 200,000 miles by the dealer that instead i have to replace a $3000 transmission. if honda has known about their mistake then why is the consumer paying for it? after reading the other complaints i question whether the new transmission being put in will be even last. please force them to offer a recall. driving 20 mph on the highway once the transmission fails is a serious safety issue. *tr

*tr

The same year, make & model lke my car had been recalled a few years back. this yr 2008 my car had barely reached over 100,000 miles and i started noticing my car making a sound and the car jumping slightly at times when i would accelerate. i did my tune up as soon as possible and chevron mechanics said that my transmission had a leak in between and the motor. they informed me about the recall and to check with the manufacturer to fix the problem. so i did and they gave me a so called extension to 109,000 when i brought it to them at about 108,000 miles. they kept my car for about a week and told me they changed the transmission oil and ran tests on it and found no leaks or anything wrong with the transmission. i thought maybe when they did the transmission oil change it miraculously fixed the problem but a few days later i had the same problems with my car and i have been checking my transmission and motor oil every 3 to 5 days and refilling both cause it seams both are leaking. i feel that the manufacturer didn't put the time or effort to check what was the problem with the transmission cause they would have found that it is in fact leaking oil. i wonder if they even checked my car or didn't want to take the expenses if it indeed fall under the recall. i don't know what to do. please help me and inform me about what i can do to get more information on investigating if it is a recall at all. i strongly feel that i haven't caused my car any damages or neglects that would make me at fault for the problem with my vehicle. i always kept my car up to date with oil changes, tune ups, etc. *tr

Around may 10, 2008 while driving my d3 indicator started flashing on the instrument panel. when i took the car to the dealer they ran some test and said that they found a p0780 shift malfunction and a p0303, p0305, p0306 egr valve codes. both of these codes are problems that honda knows about. i have received warranty extension for both but the egr problem only good for 80,000 miles and the trans warranty is good for 100.000 miles. instead of give out extended warranty they should have paid for these problems to be fixed. the egr problem has coasted me 336.10 and the trans is going to cost 2467.38. i have a 2000 honda accord ex. i think that there should be a recall for both problems. please check into these problems. thank you. *tr

The transmission of the car was a recall but i never received a letter from the american honda. the car only has 93,587 miles and the transmission broke down. when i called the american honda they told me that the car was a recall with the warranty the seven years and 9 months or 109,000 miles. of course when i call the warranty was expired. i explained to them that i never received that letter. they told they did not have record of my address. *tr

I purchased a honda accord as a second owner approximately two years ago and after a couple months of driving started to experience transmission problems. after some investigation, i found this is a normal complication with the 2000 honda accord v6 ex. there is website after website complaining about this problem. i wrote honda to see if they had more information on the type of problems that could happen from this faulty transmission and after reaching the highest level person i could get, he told me he had no information. after asking if there was any thing honda could do, realizing that they have moved there warranty from 30,000 miles to 110,000 miles to cover this problem, he again stated he had no information. the honda representative did not know if this specific problem with the transmission could lead to a hazard or not. i do understand that once you purchase a vehicle that concerns are not typically covered, but this is a well documented safety hazard. due to honda's faulty construction, many transmissions were replaced or need replaced at the owners cost. i was wondering why there has not been a recall due to the safety hazards related to a faulty transmission (hesitation with pressing gas pedal, and decrease of use in 1st and 2nd gear). by extending the warranty, i believe honda recognizes they have a problem but leave many individuals to find their own solutions. i have owned honda's for years and will probably make it my last. i am now, however, stuck with a car that has very possibly safety hazards to me as a driver. even if the transmission is repaired, there are many cases of failure multiple times of different transmissions. as to date, i have not had the transmission replaced and the car continues to get harder to drive. thanks *tr

I bought my honda accord this september. it had a rebuilt title due to minor dents and blemishes to the outside. no major wrecks. looked and seemed in good condition. dealer assured me that all of his cars were insurance claims due to minor exterior wear. he didn't take any cars that had been involved in wrecks. he was an engineer and didn't need to screw people over for money. i had my mechanic inspect it right away because it had a 30 day return policy, no questions asked. my regular mechanic said the engine was fine but there were minor things i needed such as; new rotors, new tires, and something to do with the emergency brake. his secretary said these were all optional things to have fixed. 1 month later...the radiator goes bad and must be replaced. my regular mechanic charges me $600.00 dollars for the procedure. i compare prices and find a better price for the same radiator. unfortunately, my regular mechanic still charges me $70.00 for his opinion. i go to the cheaper place, get a new radiator and have my rotors replaced. since about 2 weeks after owning the car i notice that the srs airbag light flashes on and off randomly. a $80.00 diagnostic check was performed and nothing showed up. my mechanic didn't notice it when he drove it. i still don't know if my airbags work! a month after that..transmission goes bad when in reverse. makes a terrible grinding of metal sound and lurches when put in reverse. probably needs a new transmission which i have no way to pay for. luckily, it is only a problem during the cold and/or when i first start the engine. im very worried about the safety of my car and myself! because i've had 3 different people assure me the car is in good shape, only to find out about or have a major problem occur. i don't feel safe in my mystery car! i bought a honda after being a loyal toyota customer because i thought they had the best reputation for long lasting vehicles. i'm thinking i made a mistake. please help lessen my worries. *tr

 1. early (2006) i took my car in for service because the check engine was on, the car would buckle when changing gears and it was having problems accelerating. the car would not accelerate and this would occur more often after a stop. i would find myself turning at an intersection, etc. and the car would partially stall. honda in jersey city nj rt 440 replaced the erg (?) value after i took it in for service. 2. picked up the car after a 1 mile the check engine light returned and the car was giving me the same issue. 3. honda replaced an additional part, the car appeared to be driving fine for a couple of weeks. 4. dropped off the honda for an oil change at and the buckling issue when changing gears to planet honda on rt 22 in elizabeth nj. the car was returned stating no problem. the issue was never resolved. 5. i problem in recent months had worsen, yesterday 10/9/06 the car started stalling i was able to get it to a mechanic. the problem identified new transmission required. mechanic also identified the problem as being seen by him on other honda v6 cars. i want to mentioned that my car was under an extended warranty while in the shop in jersey city an of course the parts replaced were not covered by the warranty, granted that transmission would have been. i have also found a list of people complaining about their v6 transmission failing around the 85k mileage just as mine. below is one of the list of complaints i found with a simple search. http://www.autofan.com/forum_thread.asp?message=10543. *nm

At 84,366 miles my car's check engine light came on. took accord to mechanic and was told the egr valve error code appeared. the mechanic said to take to honda due to recall for this part. picked car up from mechanic and car also had srs light on. researched online since i already have recall for dash light. found many other honda owners with same srs light. found out my air bags will not function if sensor illuminated. also, called honda and they said i was beyond the mileage (80k) for the extended warranty on the defective egr valve replacement. asked what honda was doing about the front airbags and was told no decision has been made. i have also discovered my car has the extended warranty for defective/faulty transmission. so when i'm driving down the highway my tranmsmission may give out at high rate of speed and if collsion occurs, my air bags will not deploy. my seat weld joint broke at 54k too! i used a 99 toyota 4runner as replacement vehicle and discovered the seatbelt warning light came on when my 40lb. dog sat in passenger front seat. my accord never has detected my dog in the front seat ever! this car is riddled with safety defects and poor manufacturing. honda should be held responsible for protecting the owners from injury including monetary repairs/ replacement costs for all of these safety defects and engine defects. *nm

One day while driving on down the highway, my car shifted from 4th gear to 2nd gear, and about made me run off the road. . i turned the car off for about 15 minutes. i was a long way from home or any place i could stop, so i tried to go again. when i tried again, the car did the same thing, and then became stuck in 2nd gear. i then had the car towed and the transmission replaced. the car had about 96k miles on it. *nm

2000 honda accord lx v6 automatic, with what else transmission trouble we purchased car and within 2 months would make horrible bang noide while backing up. took to dealership with complaint 5 seperate times and they lied stating they did not know what problem was and could not find anything wrong. when i demanded the service manager and their transmission tech meet me one morning i described the problem and the tech knew exactly what it was and that a new transmission would need to be installed. after they put god knows what in it i tooks it back complaining of a noise they said they had it on the lift listened to it and could not find anything except tire noise, they thing broke right in there parking lot when we went to pick it up. i just looked at the jerk manager and said to him couldn't find nothing wrong, don't ever go hicking there are rattlesnakes that make less noise than this transmission did and we don't need to loose anymore liars on our little planet now do we?!!!!. he had no response. well now transmission # 3 is getting ready to bite the dirt, has been serviced every 30,000 miles and needing replaced with only 118,000 miles on vehicle, 68,000 since last one was put in. it will be the absolute coldest day in hell before i ever darken hondas doors again.

I bought my 2000 honda accord brand new. i noticed immediately it shifted rough but i kept it anyway. in 2003 at 84000 miles i was driving down the interstate and the car would not go over 30 mph, almost causing an accident on a busy day. i took it to the honda dealer and they said i had too much transmission fluid in it. they cleaned the filter, and sent it back. it was still doing the same thing. i took it back and they made some adjustment, and it ran somewhat okay. several months later it began to do it again. i took it somewhere else and they told me it was something else, and that the previous year there was an extended warranty issued on the car. i was 2-3 thousand miles over the extension at that point. i knew the transmission was bad the year before. the car would not run right after that. dealer knows they were in the wrong and they were very rude with me. there has to be something i can do. i can't afford $4000.00 for a new transmission right now. i am thinking of taking legal action.*ak

I bought my 2000 honda accord 2 drive in december 1999 brand new, and my first problem was the clunking noise everytime i would reverse. it felt i had hit something because it would jerk. i contacted the dealer and my transmission was replaced after only 4 months of having the car. then again in 2002 my car started jerking and taking a long delay getting in gear. i took it into the dealer and my transmission was replaced at no charge. now it's 2005, and i was advised i need another transmission because it jerks when i accelerate and it also delays when going into gear (feels like it in neutral when i'm accelerating). i've lost my faith in honda's and something has to be done about this because i know of other people same car same problems. *ak

Honda automatic transmission are failing left and right, and the new transmission honda is replacing with are as bad as the originals.*ak my 2000 honda accord automatic transmission failed at 53000 mile after many miles of making whistling, clicking, grinding noises and generally giving the impression you were about to be stranded. honda replaced transmission under extended warranty in march of 2005 after requiring me to spend a $100 bucks to service the old one prior to diagnostics. replacement transmission jerks and makes all kinds of noise when put in reverse and hit the gas. local honda dealer (hughes honda in warner robins, ga) tries to link it to the some brake pad alignment non-sense in an attempt to get another $130 out of me. i told the service manager to change the pads with the agreement being the dealership would absorb the cost if the transmission noise was not fixed. then the pads they just told me were worn out all of a sudden had tons of life left. the car with the same brake components and pads did not make the noise until after the new transmission was installed. honda has a real problem and should be forced via recall to address any and all transmission problems or buy the car back.

Complaint received via e-mail. am the original owner of a 2000 honda accord se. in 9-25-03 i took the car to the dealership because i was able to remove my key from the ignition without the car in park. was told the switch inside the center console failed because soda was spilled. i would have to pay to replace it. i asked if it was a safety issue, and was told not to worry about it. if i wanted it fixed it would cost me about $200.00, and the part had to be ordered. took car home, inspected under the console, and found no evidence of soda or any other substance. on 6-12-04 the car seemed to be having poor acceleration home at 4 pm, and at 1130 pm police notified me that my car was found in neighbor's yard, had ran into the corner of the home, causing $3000 damage to home and $800.00 to front of car. on july 13 2004 check engine light came on. car had smoke coming from underneath, as well as transmission fluid leaking. had to have car towed to dealership. requested they check the ignition issue. also, next day i received a call, stating that transmission had to be replaced. i asked about the ignition issue, and was told that they forgot to look at it. i insisted it be looked at,and told them what happened the last time at another dealership. i was aware of a recall on the 1999 model, and that other people with same make & model had a similar problem. *ak

I have a 2000 honda accord lx sedan with a little over 75,000 miles on it. saturday may 4th of this year on my way from mesquite to arlington my car just failed to move. engine was running but the car wouldn't pick a gear to move on, luckily a gentleman behind me helped push the car off to the shoulder. i was stranded on the side of interstate 35 and had to request aaa come tow my car to the dealership lute riley in richardson. the dealership was closed sat by the time i got there so monday morning when i went in i had researched and discovered this was a known defect in the sixth generation accords. but i was informed at midday by my service advisor shawn that i needed to pay to have my solenoids replaced since thats what the technician reports as the problem so me being a college student and heavily reliant on my transportation especially during finals week paid for it. sure enough couple of days later same issue where the car dies again in my school parking lot and i had it towed once again by aaa over to lute riley. this time when i went in on thursday may 6th they sang a different tune that my transmission had failed and that it was covered under an extended warranty by honda so they will replace it for free but will need to keep it for a week while they order one. now my issue is returning the $350 plus that i spent on repairing solenoids that weren't in need of being replaced. i will be reporting this to honda's corporate hq like so many other honda owners have already done. please do what you can to help save other people this headache and possible endangerment of life when a vehicle fails on our highways! additionally i request that you include honda's recallextension of warranty on all 2000-2001 accords, oddesseys, and preludes in your safety recall search engine (this is open information on honda's homepage but it would be nice to have it available in as many places possible).

Automatic transmissions problems still persist. transmission has been replaced three times already. each time there is a new occurrence of problems. for this latest transmission when driving in congested traffic areas where the transmission does not always go to the next gear, it will lag and fall back to the lower gear as if the brake was being applied very hard. took the car to the service center and was told by the mechanic that the transmission is shifting through all of its points normally. i indicated to them this is not the reason when i came to them. they ignored my reasons for coming to them and they then proceeded to claim that its normal for the transmission to hang and fall back due to the computer getting confused as to what gear to go to. as a result its normal for the transmission to lag or hang. i have never experienced this problem with the other two transmissions i had....so, this is anything but normal !!! *jb

I started to feel a little slip in the transmission when taking off from a stop sign or backing out of my drive way. i called and set up an appointment with the honda dealer. they could not get me in for three days so i took it to midas it. the man told me i had some very bad transmission problems and could not touch it. he said it was leaking fluid out the left side of the transmission and all he could do would be to fill it up with the special fluid that honda uses. so $80.00 bucks later i got some fluid in it and then called the local honda dealership to ask why my 2000 accord that i paid $25,000.00 had a bad transmission after only 72,000 miles. i was told that ,well there has been a problem with the 2000 accord auto transmissions. i am being told to bring it into the shop to be looked at for a fee of $72.00 an hour and they would try to detect the problem. and i am being told that supposedly that honda had extended the warranty to 72 months or 100,000 miles. i can only hope to god that this is true. or i am going to have to pay at least $3,500.00 for a new transmission. why was i not told about this problem at the time of purchase, or the time of all the different maintenance schedules i had done? i had ran my honda civic up to 240,000 miles with no transmission problems before i purchased this 2000 accord and i was going to buy a new 2003 accord next month. although now i have lost all confidence in the car that i had thought was the very best on the market! is this going to be under a warranty?. *jb

The problem i have is the transmission leak(bleeding oil) this problem happens twice @ 22500 mi & 39929 mi. the first time happened the dealer added dye and told me to drive it for a week and bring ther car back for check up. they told me that the pressure hose is loose so they tightened it back that was find with me. but then @39929mi it happen again and i took it back to them at the dealer in diamond bar they told me that there is no leak because the oil fliud is at the full level. but when i asked him why is that there are lots of dirt build up around the transmission and it is still wet(oil mix with dirt). they could not give me an answer but just told me to drive the car back and wait to see if it still leak. this is so unprofessional. and all along i do feel that the transmission is not shifting as smooth as before. i know that there are a lot of hondas owners that have transmmision problems as well. i hope that this could be resolve. please let me know thanks. *ak

This is honda accord v6, i have noticed a clunk when operating the vehicle in reverse. i have taken it to a local dealer and they say they cannot reproduce the problem. they informed me that there aren't any complaints or issuances on the bulletin boards of this problem. however, there are. i believe it is referred to as the 'reverse clunk' problem. this problem is not consisent every time i operate my car in reverse, but it happens about 90% of the time. the car is operated under normal driving conditions. this is a manufacturing defect that i want fixed. when you pay for quality that is what i expect to get. i will also be contacting the honda corporation about this problem.*ak

The day after we purchased the vehicle we noticed a loud thump when putting the car in reverse. this noise was heard almost every time the vehicle was shifted into reverse. upon calling the service dept. at the dealer where the vehicle was purchased we were told this was a normal sound when shifting into reverse. the noise continued to happen & it was obvious it was not normal so we again called the dealer's service dept. which then said it was indeed not normal & to bring it in. it apparently was a known defect in 2000 accord v6 models. the transmission was replaced. in aug 2000 the car would not start. it was not a battery problem as lights, etc. worked. i tried several times to start the car & upon turning the ignition had no response. none of the dash lights indicating engine trouble remained on, although they did intially come on & then go out. i let the car sit for 15-20 mins at which time i then was able to start the car. this problem has not yet repeated itself.

Transmission replaced at 1308 miles & now the car doesn't ride smooth. at lower speed the car is jerky, hesitates, slow down very quickly as soon as you left off the gas, feels llike the brake is on. also has a noise coming from front right of car everytime i start up and pull away i hear it once. didn't hear it with the original transmission. the whole feel of the car driving is very different with the new transmission and i really don't like it. it's not smooth and flowy like the first transmission. it's very tight and feels like you constantly need gas. rides terrible on hills. i told honda that my wheels pull left on highway driving and they told me that's normal. not happy here. *ak

Car key can be removed from the ignition without requiring the driver to place the transmission in park. i purchased the car used last month and am not accustomed to driving an automatic-transmission vehicle. on multiple occasions, i have left the car in drive and attempted to exit the vehicle after shutting off the motor, only to have the car begin rolling forward or backward. condition is extremely dangerous. curiously, this is the exact problem for which the nhtsa issued recall no. 05v025000. however, dealer and american honda motor co. refuse to repair the car because its vin number does not fall within the range that honda believes to be inclusive of cars with this defect. unbelievable. car is a 2000 honda accord. *nm

Tl*the contact owns a 2000 honda accord. while driving 5 mph, the vehicle hesitated and then accelerated when shifted from first to second gear. when pulling out of a driveway, the vehicle stopped after 10-20 seconds. the vehicle was inspected and the mechanic stated that the driver's side axle shield failed. the mechanic stated that there was a 50/50 chance that the repair would correct the failure or a new transmission would be needed. the vehicle has had two transmission repairs, but the second transmission began displaying the same symptoms as the first one. the contact will need a new transmission. the check engine light illuminated during the first failure. the dealer stated that there was class action suit in 2006 that was settled. they also stated that the transmission failure would be repaired under warranty. however, the dealer is currently being uncooperative and will not assist. the vehicle has not yet been repaired. the failure and current mileages were 161,000.

The car began to jerk suddenly and without warning. it would choke when the accelerator was pressed or when car was in gear shift change. the car would jerk a significant distance, almost to the point where it could have hit another car. it stalled often, especially after being at a traffic light waiting for it to change. i immediately took the car in for a diagnosis and was told that it was a transmission defect and the entire transmission would have to be replaced. i then called the american honda service contract corporation to see what steps needed to take place in order to repair the problem. i contacted a local honda dealership to set up repair. i am currently in wait on their decision as to whether or not they will repair it. i have full coverage under my extended warranty. *nm
