For no apparent reason at all (no moisture problem; no cell phone, computer, etc. use; no disconnecting anything at all, much less related to seat belts, passenger seat occupancy, seat removal, etc.) the srs light came on and has remained on for many months. google shows this to be a widespread problem, which has triggered a very wide range of responses from honda. this has been a wonderful car given timely completion of all scheduled maintenance. but the srs light problem, since it involves the safety restraining systems, should be guaranteed for the life of the car. but, given the various ways people with this issue have been treated, i am reluctant to take the vehicle to honda. it may only require a reset for the light, which should cost nothing. but charges for a diagnosis are in the $70-100 range. then, if there is actually a problem with safety, fixes have cost in a range of $600-1500. the whole situation is absurd.

Tl-the contact owns a 2000 honda accord ex. the contact stated the srs light illuminated constantly. the vehicle was taken to a mechanic shop who inspected it and stated it was the seat belt sensor on the driver side that had fail. the manufacturer was contacted and stated the seat belt sensor was not a lifetime guarantee only the seat belts. the contact would have to pay for the repairs. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 130,000...mw

Srs light illuminated, airbags will not deploy if involved in accident. this has occurred on our 2000 honda accord with 67k miles on it. we understand that the warranty has been extended for this issue to 10 years or 150k miles, ours is now ten years old. we feel this is unacceptable and that honda should cover this for the lifetime of the vehicle. this is why people buy vehicles with all the airbags...safety! honda should cover this problem no questions asked!! for life.*dt

Honda accord 2000 srs light on and stays on. checked on line many honda owners have that issue and airbag would not deploy. called honda customer service told me my vin is not covered under their extended warranty, need to pay for diagnostic check. this is serious safety issue, wanted to bring to your attention. *tr

I have a 2000 honda accord. the srs light came on the dash and stays on whenever the ignition is on. i took it to the dealer and they told me it is a switch within the driver's side seat belt buckle. they told me the belt and the buckle are covered under the seat belt warranty but the switch is not covered and the diagnostic test is not covered either. the whole assembly is part of the safety system and should be covered along with the diagnostic test. *tr

The srs light came on and has remained on since. my car is garaged, has 48,000 miles on it and has suffered no accidents. your listing shows that many other honda accords have the same defect. since this is a safety device i feel nhtsa should treat this seriously. *tr

In may of 2008 my 2000 honda accord lost power while driving and would not restart. all of the gas ran out from the front of the car. the computer board had gone out. the computer board was replaced by another mechanic and then was towed to the honda dealership to be reprogrammed. since then it has gone back and was diagnosed with misfires. the coil packs , plugs and wires, fuel injectors, egr valve all have been replaced. the car is still spitting and sputtering like it is running on 4 cylinders and it is a v6. i have researched and there seems to be alot of these problems. also the srs light stays on and you can turn the car off and remove the key without the car being in park. i never received any kind of recall from the dealerships on this recall. this car was bought new in 2000. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2000 honda accord. the contact stated that the srs (safety restraint system) lights illuminated in her vehicle and would not dim. she took the vehicle to the dealer and they stated that the passenger side seat belt switch was the cause of the failure. the manufacturer asked her to sign a release, but the contact refused. the parts for the repair were ordered in march of 2008 and when she called again in april 10, 2008, she was informed that the parts were on backorder. most recently, when she went to the dealer to check the status, she was informed that there was no record of the order. the current mileage was approximately 47,800 and failure mileage was 45,834. updated 06/16/08 *bf

Car was taken to the moreno valley honda and spreen honda regarding transmission problems and we were told that the transmission was fine. my husband owns a transmission repair shop and had to tell spreen honda what was wrong with the transmission. i finally called honda's main office and it took them about a week to remedy the problem. home office contacted the dealer and requested the transmission be replaced. spreen honda had the car for several weeks and did not offer rental car or reimbursement. terrible customer service all around. my husband could have fixed the problem but the car was about 2 years old and under warranty when the problems started to occur. the brakes are constantly squeeking even after replacement. the material on the rear interior door handles has melted. passenger seat belts are extremely tight. this 2000 honda accord se has been a total disappointment. dt

Unless the front passenger seat is in the full-back position, and has been pushed hard to lock it into position, it is very difficult to get it to lock in position if the position is changed when a passenger enters the rear seat. the result is that after the front passenger is seated and the car begins to move, the seat will usually freely move forward or backward, unless the passenger has figured out how to move the seat fore-aft lever down into the locked position while gently moving the seat forward or back. normally i warn passengers of this problem, but none seem able to accomplish the locking of the seat in a midway fore-aft position without endangering the knees of the rear seat passenger. i have not taken the car into the dealer yet due to time constraints, and no one has been injured because i have warned them about the seat. still, this car should not have left the factory without the passenger seat lock working easily and predictably.

Tl*the contact owns a 2002 honda accord. while driving 30 mph, the contact crashed into the driver side door of another vehicle. the driver sustained injuries to her left leg and side. a police report was filed. the seat belt did not restrain her from moving forward and the air bag failed to deploy. the dealer replaced the seat belt buckle in june of 2007 and diagnosed the vehicle due to the srs light illuminating. in august of 2002, the srs was replaced due to recall number 02v051000 (seat belts:front:buckle assembly). honda also sent an investigator to inspect the vehicle and concluded that they were not responsible for the failure. the current mileage was 51,250 and failure mileage was 51,184. the consumer stated was severely injured with hernia on right side and fractured pelvis on left major surgery to be performed. the consumer further stated seatbelt did not restrain nor did airbags deploy. updated 09/10/07 *tr

Seat belts on both sides of front have opened by themselves after seeming to be latched; first time was driver's side, i took it to local dealer who cleaned it even though i saw no dirt, seems to be working; but now the passenger side is doing the same thing, opening by itself during driving; again took it to local dealer, they offered to clean it again but i said no, i did not see any dirt and they told me that if someone had spilled a drink on it the seat belt would not work any more; i advised north american honda (tina at 1-800-999-1009, ext. 118088, case number n-012001-10-18-00512), they offered to replace seat belt with new one but of same design and i said no. to sum up, belts appear to be latched but are not, and i did not see any dirt or other barriers, and furthermore even if someone did actually spill a drink i cannot imagine that would cause a seatbelt (twice now) to fail to stay closed. i am convinced this design is not safe.*ak

Rear seat belts in my 2000 honda accord ex are too short for adults. it is very difficult to get them on without activating the automatic retraction mechanism, which makes them very uncomfortable. it often takes 4-6 attempts to get them on comfortably, and if you lean forward with the belt on, you have to start over.*ak
09/14/20031000505/22/2000
Rear seat belts often retract in the process of putting them on, making them so uncomfortable that passengers do not want to wear their seat belt. rear seat belts need to be longer, or need to be able to be pulled out further before going into retract mode, so they can comfortably be worn. *la
