Intermittent connection loss to the air bag due to bad wiring part commonly called clock spring or honda's name for it cable reel i called honda to check for recalls and notified them of the problem, the report was filed and i was given a case number but there was no active recall on this. as another one of my vehicles of a different model had the same part replaced under a safety recall i knew it was important to report this to the nhtsa for review.

The srs airbag indicator light has come on almost daily since my purchase of my 2003 honda accord ex v6 in september 2010, indicating my airbags will not deploy when i need them most (in the event that i need them). this is a highly concerning common trend of this generation of accords. this issue needs to be thoroughly investigated and a recall needs to result.

Honda has expanded a previously announced recall of certain 2001 through 2003 model-year honda and acura vehicles to replace the driver's airbag inflator originally installed in approximately 273,000 additional vehicles sold in the u.s. affected driver's airbag inflators may deploy with too much pressure, which can cause the inflator casing to rupture and could result in injury or fatality. my 2003 has the same faulty airbag light now coming on, but the vin # is not currently part of the recall. how is this not covered by a dealer for repair?

The srs airbag light has come on at least 6 different times requiring a visit to the dealer each time. in each case the problem recurred within a few weeks to a few months for unknown reasons. no collisions were ever involved. no bags ever deployed prematurely. each time we have taken the car to the honda dealer. the first time they cleared the dtc code and test drove it. that was $90.00 plus tax. the light did not come back on again for some weeks later. we took the car back again on 11/14/2008 for the same problem. they replaced the driver seat belt at no charge under warranty. a month later the light came on again and we took the car back in on 12/12/2008. they cleared the code for another $90.00 plus tax. back again on 12/03/2009; same problem. this time the blamed it on a seat belt tensioner and repaired under warranty. back again on 5/31/2010. this time they replaced the drivers side seat buckle again under warranty. and finally back again on 6/20/2011, this time not only having this problem, but they say the transmission needs replacement at a cost of over $4000 plus tax. i've filed a separate complaint for that. i see online that there are a very large number of complaints for the srs light, the transmission and many other problems. i see that the srs and transmission problems have caused accidents and injuries. this is a very dangerous vehicle. we are no longer driving it. please investigate asap.

I started the engine of my 2003 honda accord and the srs aribag light came on and remained on. this has never happened before. the car was involved in a rear-end collision over two years ago, and no airbags were deployed. i took the car to the shop to be looked at about the srs light, where two or three different diagnostic tests were run. i was told that the service techs received a message from one of the tests indicating that the driver's side airbag was overcompressed. i was informed that airbags were considered a luxury item on a vehicle, and were not covered under the lifetime warranty like seatbelts are. i was also informed that if the car was involved in any crash while that light was on, that the airbags would not deploy. i do not understand why the airbag system would fail suddenly without being the result of an impact. i was told that with parts and labor, i would be chagred almost one thousand dollars to have this part (the air bag inflator) replaced and installed. air bags are common safety features on cars and should not be considered a luxury feature. i do not understand why this happened, and why i should have to pay to have it fixed.

My airbag light came on in my 2003 honda accord. the dealership told me that this was due to an open circuit in the driver's side airbag inflator as well as a the drivers side seat belt buckle switch. i had these fixed and the light came on again on my way home. the dealership checked again and could not find out what was wrong and sent me home after resetting the light. the light came on the next day that i drove my car and when i called the dealership wants to charge me for another diagnostic fee. american honda said that there is no recall on my model, although there are recalls on other years for the same problem. p.s. the model number for the equipment is not in the dropdown menu, but on my paperwork it has 06788-sda-a82. once i started writing 0 in the field it automatically picked something else beginning with a 0.

We own a 2003 honda accord in good condition. four times since jan., 2010, our air bag indicator light on dashboard has come on and remained on until engine is shut off. apparently it re-set itself each time. there seems to be no rhyme or reason for this sporadic occurrence. we have discussed the problem with our honda dealer who claimed to know nothing about the problem, except to tell us that when the light is on, the air bag system will not work. the manual instructs the owner to take the car to the dealer to determine the cause of the problem. the dealer said to bring the car in for diagnosis which will cost $95.00. is this a safety issue? have there been any other complaints on this matter? shouldn't a honda dealer be responsible for a factory installed air bag system?

I have a 2003 honda accord lx that was recently involved in a head on accident, where the car was traveling between 45 and 55mph when it slid on ice and went head on into a snow bank/ditch. there was only the driver inthe vehicle and approximately 90% of the front bumper was shattered due to the collision. the passenger airbag deployed with no passenger in the seat, and the driver's airbag failed to deploy. the seat belt on the driver's side locked, but the seat belt on the passenger's side (with the deployed airbag) did not. the car was not disabled from the airbag deployment and is still able to be driven at this time. i contacted price honda in dover, delaware where i purchased the car and they informed me that they were unable to explain why the air bag did not deploy on the driver's side, nor were they able to explain why the car's safety features did not work properly following the accident. i was also told that if i do get the vehicle repaired, there was no way to ensure the air bag system's efficiency and they could not guarantee that if in another accident that the air bag would deploy or not. *tr

The srs warning indicator comes on when the vehicle is started and is occasionally staying on. research online shows that this is a common problem with older honda accords, and an extended warranty was issued by honda to warranty the opds system which controls the airbags and seat belt tensioning system. my accord, 2003, is not covered by this extended warranty. this is a safety issue, as the airbags are disabled when the srs warning light is on, and i am astonished at the treatment honda has given me. they are unwilling to cover this, even though there is a history of complaints. *tr

The airbag sensor warning light has been going on and off for the last 3 years on my 2003 honda accord sedan. the dealer says that if it is not caused by a seat belt defect, the repair is not covered by honda. the same defect was the subject of a recall for the 2004 accord but not the 2003. i believe it is the identical problem. *tr

It appears my airbags are not functioning on my 2003 honda accord . the airbag dashboard warning light has been going on and off for a while. lately it stays on continuously. the honda dealer (most recently honda marysville in marysville, oh) took various steps to address it but nothing worked. the second to last step taken was to replace the car battery but the problem still exists. most recently, on september 10, 2008, the honda dealer ran tests, spoke with honda manufacturing, and said that the problem may be with the srs unit and recommended that it be replaced at a cost of $475. there is no assurance, however, that this will fix the problem. honda manufacturing disclaims any responsibility for paying for this problem, despite the fact that this problem has been ongoing for quite a while and despite the fact that this pertains to a very critical safety device for the vehicle. *tr

I was on i-285 going about 40 mph when a truck carrying tree limbs and branches pulled off the median directly in front of me. my 2003 honda accord ex coupe rear ended the truck. the front passenger air bag deployed breaking the windshield but the driver's side air bag did not deploy. the driver's seat belt did not retract. damage was confined to the hood, bumper and several components under the hood (compressor, radiator, etc). the vehicle was towed to my local honda dealer who is making all the necessary repairs. the dealer informed me that honda recommends the seat belt buckle be replaced when the seat belt needs to be replaced. the dealer ordered the seat belt buckle but noticed it was the wrong part when they went to install it. they contacted honda north america on may 4 and again on may 12 regarding this and as of may 13 the dealer still has had no response from honda north america. the car was scheduled to be ready on may 12 and now the dealer can't give me a completion date because of honda north america's refusal to contact the dealer regarding the seat belt buckle. in the meantime, i am still having to pay a portion of my rental car and the maximum allowed by my insurance company will max out this coming week. *nm

Driving home from work on paved 2 lane road at 45 miles per hour. driver's side curtain airbag and side airbag activated/inflated without warning or apparent cause. regained control of the car, barely avoiding a head-on collision. doctor's visit 4/28/04 resulted in a diagonsis of post traumatic stress related issues (foggy head, unable to focus, headache, etc...). car dealer (service dept) phone call 4/28/04 stated that incident is not covered under warranty, as the air bag sensor was tripped by something that struck the car from underneath. car dealer (service dept) also stated that a sudden decrease in speed would have also been needed to cause the airbags to release. the cost of repair is approx. $3000 - insurance estimators are to evaluate today. the car's owner's manual as well as supplemental literature supplied at the time of purchase state that the side air bags offer protection during moderate to severe side impact.

July 17, 2003 1847 hillmont way roseville, ca 95661 (916) 786-6696 dear agency, a potentially lethal defect may exist on the redesigned 2003 honda accord, and honda motors is attempting to sweep it under the carpet. without your immediate involvement, they might get away with it. on july 1, 2003 my wife was driving our 2003 honda accord, with 17000 miles, with a passenger. the driving conditions were excellent, skies were clear, roads were dry and temperatures were moderate. while traveling at about 55 mph, two of the side airbags deployed apparently without provocation. two sensors activated two separate airbags: the side-curtain airbag and the seat-cushion airbag. fortunately, neither occupant was hurt but my wife immediately pulled off onto a side street. they surveyed the area and noticed that there were no potholes or rocks in the road and apparently there was nothing else that they could have collided with. they also looked for damage to the car. there was none. coincidentally, i was calling my wife as she was pulling the car onto the side street. she asked what she should do. i said that i would make some phone calls and get back to her. after several calls to both auto west honda and honda motors, i was informed that an airbag deployment was not considered a warrantee problem and therefore towing would be our responsibility. in fact, i was advised that honda had never had an airbag deploy without being in a collision. the dealer?s representative, john davis, advised me that, with the exception of having no airbag restraints, the car was safe to drive. we elected to have my wife drive it in to auto west. on july 3rd honda had not been able to determine if the deployment was caused by a collision. i personally visited auto west and talked with the service manager, joe tabarracci, and was advised that as far as he and his service technicians could tell, there were no visible signs of a collision.

In addition to already recalled 2004-5 honda accords, you need to include 2003's too. airbag light is on and off intermittently. quite possibly it is the occupant protection sensor, or some component of that system, in the 2004/05's it is a wiring harness. mine has been doing this for several months. they will gladly begin looking for a $120 diagnostic charge. this is a federally required safety system, any safety system fixes should be at no cost to owner.

*tr

When driving this vehicle the idle always seemed too fast. even when the brake was depressed the car appeared to want to go ahead on its own whether in drive or reverse. my parents had reported this problem several times to a local honda dealer who told my mother she didn't know how to drive and asked my father if he bought gas at a local indian reservation insinuating it was cheap gas that caused the problem. my father stopped driving the car because he felt he could not control it because it was too fast. i drove the car several times and always felt i could not control the speed of the car. on the date noted prior to the crash my mother was at a busy intersection. when the light turned red she had to use both feet to depress the brake in order to keep the car under control. prior to the crash she was entering a parking lot and had taken her foot off the accelerator to pull-up in front of a building. her foot was on the brake and the car lunged forward at a very high rate of speed-jumped a curb crossed over a flowerbed and only stopped when it hit a brick retaining wall. my mother tried pressing the brake as hard as she could and had the brake pedal to the floor and the car just kept the momentum going until it hit the retaining wall. when the car came to a stop, both airbags deployed. my father who was the front-seat passenger was badly injured breaking several ribs, requiring surgery and months of hospitalization. he is now non-ambulatory and still recovering. my mother was also badly bruised and could not speak for weeks because of the airbag hitting her so hard. we requested that the police investigate if the accelerator had stuck and to checkout the mechanics of the car and never received a report. basically, they blamed my mother because of her age. when my mother exited the car at the scene of the crash she was obviously upset and was talking to witnesses and the police took what she said to be her 'statement of admission of guilt'. *tr

I was driving about 55mph on a freeway in cleveland, oh. i saw something on the road and quickly swerved to avoid it. the item hit the bottom of the car with little impact, and the right curtain airbags in the back and front, and passenger seat airbag both deployed. i recalled a loud noise, but i didn't see the airbags actually inflate. i immediately took the car into a honda dealer, and was advised that there was a dent underneath that must have caused the airbags to deploy. repair costs were quoted, but nothing was repaired. *tr

I was driving my 2003 honda accord ex-v6 on a highway when a passenger side curtain and side airbags deployed for no reason. there was no accident, no hit, no pothole. insurance company investigated and found no damages to the car that could trigger airbags; honda technicians after three days say they found a damage (dent?) on undercarriage that may have triggered the sensor. the car has 45500 mile on it. police was called on a scene but no report was filed. *jb

Dt: while driving, swerved to miss road debris, not for sure if hit anything. both passenger side curtain and seat air bags deployed with no warning, causing skin laceration, bump on head, and ringing in the right ear. if consumer did strike something on the road it would have hit the undercarriage without enough force to cause this deployment. *ak

My wife was driving approximately 40 mph on a two-lane road when she made a minor swerve to avoid an object in the road. the passenger-side curtain airbags (front and rear) deployed for no reason. there are no marks indicating anything struck the vehicle. at the time of the incident, our 7-month-old daughter was in the back seat, on the driver side. we are gratefule that our 4-year-old son was not in his seat on the passenger side. we immediately contacted the dealer, martin honda, who advised to bring the car in immediately. dealer also advised us to contact american honda in california to report.

Consumer was driving at approximately 40 mph and the side curtain air bags dropped down, but did not inflate. also, the seat belt on the passenger's side did not retract. the headliner was ripped 6 to 8 inches toward the center of the vehicle. the plastic housing that retracts the seat belts did not operate either. consumer contacted the manufacturer and told the story, but the manufacturer will not stand by its product. *ak

Complaint received via e-mail. my car was hit on the driver's side by a car that ran a red light. the impact was about 25 to 30 mph. my concern is that my side curtain air bag did not function as advertised and failed to deploy. the air bag in the other car deployed, and the driver was uninjured. i suffered a blow to the head which should have been prevented or at least minimized had my air bag functioned. *ak the consumer stated that the speed of the other vehicle was 30-35 miles per hour at the time of impact. *tc

Incident: on june 16th, around 10 am, we were traveling from fort wayne indiana, to the cincinnati area for a visit with our daughter. driving along i-75 in ohio, at about 65 mph, the right side or passenger airbags deployed and the right front seat (occupied) belt retracted. upon arrival at our destination i called performance honda in fairfield ohio, the dealer nearest our destination, and relayed what had happened. i was instructed to bring the car in the next morning, thursday june 17, so the dealership could inspect the car and attempt to determine why the side air bags and seat belt deployed while driving straight down the road.*ak by tuesday, june 22 we were told we would know what honda would do and we could come in and pick up the car. when we arrived at the dealership we were advised that honda engineers believed we had struck something, based on a very small scratch in the undercoating on the bottom of the car, and that caused the deployment of the airbags. we picked up the car and returned home to fort wayne on wednesday. thursday morning , june 24 we spoke in person with the general manager of don ayres honda where we had purchased the vehicle. we expressed our position that the airbags and seat belt should not have deployed and honda should make all repairs under warranty. complaint: side air bags should not deploy in a vehicle traveling in a straight line at 65 mph. from the owner's manual page 47 and again on page 48: in a moderate to severe side impact, the sensors will detect rapid deceleration and signal the control unit to instantly inflate either the driver's or the passenger's side airbag. only one airbag will deploy during a side impact. if the impact is on the passenger's side, the passenger's side airbag will deploy even if there is no passenger. there was no impact, side or otherwise and certainly none that could be considered moderate to severe!

New 2003 honda accord ex, with only 900 miles on it, hit at between 40 and 45 miles per hour on passenger side door. neither front or side airbags were deployed. neck injuries were the result of my head hitting the driver side window. i also had a 2002 honda accord ex, hit on driver's side passenger door at 35 miles per hour while parked and no airbags deployed either. luckily i was not in the car when the 2002 accord was hit. *jb
