I bought my honda from the dealership 06/23/12, 1 owner completely serviced through the dealership then traded in at same dealership. when bought it had 101,793 miles, timing belt was done at 90k and power steering pump. not even month later i had to replace throttle body. i've always felt something wrong with the transmission after bought car. on 11/10/2012 out of no where when i was getting off the freeway my car started to down shift really hard, was jerking while driving and then was stuck in first gear, luckily i was less than a mile from my house so i drove home then parked it and no indicator lights on. the next morning (today) called a friend who works on hondas and he looked at it and said the transmission fluid was very dirty and practically gone. drove around the block twice and transmission was working fine. then later drove about 8 miles and started hard down shifting and was stuck in first gear. then parked and tried to put my car in reverse and it not move acted like was in neutral. put it in park, turned it off then started it again and put it into reverse, reverse now worked. after that i had my friend look under the hood at the transmission fluid and it was practically empty again. so i went to the store got more transmission fluid and put some in and tried to drive back home. everything seemed fine for about another 8 miles then it started to hard down shift all over again. after another 3 miles the car completely freaked out check engine light finally came on along with the abs, tsc, and the light showing i was in drive started flashing. so i pulled over and put the car in park and everything was still doing the same thing, including the light indicating i was in drive even thought i was in park and the park gear light was on. so i turned off my car, sat for a min then restarted. driving slow needed to stop and brakes started to go out. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2003 honda accord. the contact started the ignition and as the accelerator pedal was depressed, the vehicle unexpectedly increased acceleration to 70 mph. the brake was engaged repeatedly and the gear was shifted into neutral however, the vehicle continued to accelerate. the speed was reduced as the vehicle accelerated up an incline then the contact shifted into park. the engine began to roar loudly with a rapid increase in engine rpms. the engine was turned off and the vehicle came to a complete stop. a certified mechanic arrived on the scene to inspect the vehicle. the mechanic found that the accelerator pedal had become stop in open throttle position. the vehicle was able to resume as normal. the manufacturer was notified of the acceleration failure and the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for diagnosis. the dealer however was unable to duplicate the problem. in addition, an investigator inspected the vehicle and detected that the air filter plastic box was fractured, which caused fragments to remain stuck in the throttle. they also informed the contact that the air filter was improperly installed by a mechanic when performing a previous oil change. the approximate failure mileage was unavailable.

While pulling out of parking space with vehicle in reverse the vehicle suddenly accelerated causing me to crash into another vehicle parked in the same lot.i am an assistant service manager for a toyota dealership and i am totally aware of sudden acceleration problems re recent toyota problems, my mats were not involved [as were some found with the toyota problems] and i am 100% sure that my ,foot was on the brake and not the gas pedal . there were no injuries, however the rear of my car has quite a,bit of damage.. i noticed a slight similar problem the week before but that did not continue so i discounted it. when the vehicle leaves the collision shop, i will have my technician fully check this problem out, as he is very familiar with this condition re: previously mentioned toyota problems of the same nature. *tr

I was traveling at 60 mph on us 30 when my honda accord suddenly jerked and slipped into low gear. i was nearly rearended and was definitely in shock. i continued homeward and it did the same thing 3 more times. i had slowed my speed to 40 mph but the engine sounded like i was going too fast for the gear i was in so slowed down even more....put my flashers on and crept home. since it is after hours i must wait until tomorrow to contact the dealership. however i have found that many people have had the same problem with honda accords. *tr

Noticed when accelerating gently, car more quickly accelerated than usual to the next gear. then the rpms shot up very high and very slowly and dropped suddenly when car achieved 35 mph, causing car and me to lurch and sling me backward into the seat. the next day, at 117,699 miles, i drove vehicle to my dealership, economy honda on chapman rd, in chattanooga tn. they drove it, and agreed it was the transmission. they had replaced my first transmission in september 2008 under extended warranty at 67,618 miles because it did the same thing. later i found out the first one was recalled anyway in 2004. american honda communicated with economy honda for a deal: me to pay $2650.08 instead of $3886.50 to replace this current transmission, which has not even made it to its first fluid change (not until about 17,000 more miles). this is a two-fold issue. the first being that this can quickly and unexpectedly turn into a deadly issue, and the second being that a large corporation is being abusive to its consumers. many people do not have the option of repairing, trading in, or leasing a new vehicle. how many people are locked in with honda, and have pushed their vehicles to the limit even though this transmission issue is going on because they can not afford to make their vehicle safe? if i drive my honda, is someone going to rear-end me on the highway and kill me and my children because my transmission is failing and my car won't maintain proper speed because of a faulty job that honda did on my second transmission? honda told me it was safe enough to drive home until they figured out how much to charge me, so it will be just fine, i'm sure.

Transmission down shifts from 4th gear to 1st gear abruptly and will not re-engage 4th gear until i turn the car off and back on. this occured today on my way home on the highway. after turning the car off and back on, it happen 2 more times before i got off the highway and went home on 1st gear locally. i came real close to being rear ended a a truck due to the sudden downshift of the transmission.

I have to replace the transmission on my honda accord. i was on my way to work when the car just started shifting into neutral during acceleration after every stop. i was almost hit in the rear at one point. terrifying!!!! i purchased the car in 2004 from pohanka honda in temple hills, md. the same dealership has been responsible for servicing my vehicle since the purchase. i purchased a honda for the dependability, my car has not reached it's 10th birthday and i'm faced with a huge cost to replace the transmission.

Same problem as everyone else vibration at speeds above 50 miles an hour. car roughly changes gears at weird times has almost caused a few accidents. i bought car this year from honda dealer when we noticed it we took it back dealer couldn't feel anything. the longer i wait the worse it's getting i'm scared i'm gonna get hit

My transmission failed while driving on my way to work the morning of nov. 16th with no warning whatsoever. luckily i was not in an accident due to the fact i was unable to control the car because the rpm's were all over the place and the vehicle would only rev but not go any further. therefore i immediately had to pull over in fear of causing an accident. i have researched the past few days how many other 2003 honda accord owners have had the same problem with their transmissions and there should really be a recall done by honda. the transmission should not be going out at 76,000 miles. my car is currently being repaired at an independent transmission shop with an estimated cost of around $3400. i hope to recover some of that cost from honda but further action needs to happen to ensure more people with similar year vehicles do not have to experience this as well.

I was having problems shifting gears and it seemed my car couldn't shift into 3rd gear. it's an automatic and when it would reach 3rd gear, the engine would just rev. it would drive fine at first but as soon as the car warmed up, it progressively got worse. i had to have my battery replaced prematurely (after 3 years) last week and i mentioned the gear shifting problem to the honda dealership. the gear shifting problem happened right around the same time my battery died so i thought it may be related. they told me the gear shifting problem would be fixed when i replaced my battery. they paid for 60% of the cost of the battery. over the next few days it progressively got worse to where i couldn't even drive and i had to coast into a parking lot because the engine would rev and the car would jerk. it seemed to be dangerous. i then shut off the car and tried to restart it. i wasn't even able to reverse at all - like it had no reverse, just rev. i had to call a tow truck and have it towed to the dealership. i have a 2003 honda accord ex v6 with less than 100k miles - right around 97k - and the dealership told me i needed a new transmission and motor mount. a rebuilt transmission is $4500 and a new transmission is $6400. i bought a honda because it was suppose to be a reliable car that would last years without expensive maintenance repairs. and now it's less than 10 years old and 100k miles on it and i have a huge repair. it seems many others have had the same problems with the 2003 honda accord.

While traveling on the freeway the transmission jumped down to first gear, resulting in my car suddenly decelerating to a speed of 20 mph. i was very fortunate to not be rear ended and have since had to replace the transmission. i know this is a known issue with this model and year honda, however i did go through the original process of the manufacturer recall. i have done research on this model and it seems it is a prevalent problem. honda will not acknowledge the issue.

Honda service manager said he was almost killed on the highway driving my car: first incident: 9/19/2011 (mon evening) car lurching irregularly at highway and town speeds; difficulty getting into gear and trouble reversing. took it to dealer that night. 9/20/2011 (tues): dealer reported not being able to detect a problem. nothing came up on diagnostics. no service light was on. dealer asked to keep it one more day. 9/21/2011 (wed): dealer still unable to detect a problem, they drove it around but claimed nothing unusual. service manager asked if he could drive it home. i ok'd. employer annoyed. second incident: that night the service manager, drove it home, because it wasn't acting up at the garage, and diagnostics showed nothing. there were no warning lights. he, joe, said he almost went through the windshield on the highway on his way home. he said repeatedly that he was almost killed. that's right the honda service manager said he almost was killed!!! which is what could have happened to me or any other honda accord owner. if this happened in inclement weather, i'd be dead in a ditch (it's new england so those days are coming). the car lurched at highway speeds and at low speeds. it lurched speeding up and slowing down. if i put the car in neutral, and just applied some gas to the pedal, the tachometer (rpm) needle jumped around all over the place. only until the service manager got it back to the service garage (9/22) did any service lights come on. how convenient. their proposed solution: step one: replace transmission fluid (material, parts, labor) = $120 step two: replace transmission solenoid (parts labor, etc) = $500 failing that: step three: replace entire transmission. est. cost: $4300 total potential cost: approx $5.000.... or my life. this is a significant safety issue and a recall is in order and asap.

Coming back from the airport, going home on belt parkway, the transmission stopped functioning properly out of a sudden, without giving any hints before, totally unexpected. it didn't go to the 2nd gear, stuck in 30mph. after anxiously drove back home trembling, found the reverse did not work either. the vehicle had to be turned off and restarted again to gain back the function of reverse. after research the on the web, and read through so many comments of honda accord 2003 owner, this seems very much related to the honda accord recall incident in 2004. it is believed honda didn't fix the problem permanently back in 2004. it was a temporary fix trick, and right now many of the honda accord 2003 owners are suffering from honda's failure to fix its defective product.

While driving my 2003 v6 honda accord coupe (automatic) the transmission violently jerked the entire vehicle forward and downshifted to a lower gear. this occured during rush hour and almost caused the vehicle behind me to rear-end my vehicle. i immediately turned on my flashers and made my way to a parking lot. i left the vehicle there overnight and had it towed to a honda dealership for inspection. they advised me that they could not identify anything wrong with my transmission and everything was working properly during their tests and could not duplicate the problem.

This event occurred thursday, february 12, 2010. i was in my 2003 honda accord and i was going about 50-55mph. i was coming up on a red light and my care suddenly would not brake. i applied as much pressure to my brakes as i possibly could (my feet and body was completely engaged as firmly as possible to the brakes) and the car slowed down but would not come to a complete stop. luckily i was the first car at the red light in the fartherest left lane. i ended up rolling through the light and it was a time of day when traffic was not heavy (thank god) i ended up going through the light and veering to a median. i applied my emergency brake and the car still continued to move forward. i ended up shutting the engine off while in drive. once i put my car in park and restarted the engine it was a very loud accelerating sound coming from the engine. i could not go back into any other gears. it seemed as though i was experiencing some type of issue with my accelerator cable. i am blessed i did not have my children in the car with me as this could have caused a serious injury to them, myself as well as others that could have been on the road. by the time my husband came to assist me the car started back up like nothing had ever happened! this freaked me out even more, so he followed me home where my car is currently parked. i contacted honda in tyler, tx located on loop 323 to explain the situation. i am taking it to the dealer tomorrow so they can look at it. looking at this site really came in handy because i have seen a lot of issues like myself, unfortunately a lot of the issues resulted in a wreck and i do not have the luxury to pay for repairs or get another vehicle so i hope this is considered a recall because looking at the reports and the severity of this situation it definitely should be. i will be posting my update after i come from the dealer. *tr

When driving this vehicle the idle always seemed too fast. even when the brake was depressed the car appeared to want to go ahead on its own whether in drive or reverse. my parents had reported this problem several times to a local honda dealer who told my mother she didn't know how to drive and asked my father if he bought gas at a local indian reservation insinuating it was cheap gas that caused the problem. my father stopped driving the car because he felt he could not control it because it was too fast. i drove the car several times and always felt i could not control the speed of the car. on the date noted prior to the crash my mother was at a busy intersection. when the light turned red she had to use both feet to depress the brake in order to keep the car under control. prior to the crash she was entering a parking lot and had taken her foot off the accelerator to pull-up in front of a building. her foot was on the brake and the car lunged forward at a very high rate of speed-jumped a curb crossed over a flowerbed and only stopped when it hit a brick retaining wall. my mother tried pressing the brake as hard as she could and had the brake pedal to the floor and the car just kept the momentum going until it hit the retaining wall. when the car came to a stop, both airbags deployed. my father who was the front-seat passenger was badly injured breaking several ribs, requiring surgery and months of hospitalization. he is now non-ambulatory and still recovering. my mother was also badly bruised and could not speak for weeks because of the airbag hitting her so hard. we requested that the police investigate if the accelerator had stuck and to checkout the mechanics of the car and never received a report. basically, they blamed my mother because of her age. when my mother exited the car at the scene of the crash she was obviously upset and was talking to witnesses and the police took what she said to be her 'statement of admission of guilt'. *tr

On backing into a spot in a private parking lot i struck a short steel post. i then moved forward, the backed again to park, however, the car shot back and kept ramming the post. i shifted into d with foot on the brake thinking i had a problem only in r, but the car shot forward and, in 5 seconds, entered the roadway, rammed a taxi, crossed the road, entered a sidewalk area, took out 2 lampposts and was finally stopped by hitting a car parked at the curb. in the entire episode, my foot never left the brake as skid marks attested. unfortunately, i did not have the presence of mind to turn the key off. the impression given was the car was attempting to reach a cruise control speed which was normally set for approximately 110kph (68mph). *tr

I purchased this honda accord 2003 in april 2003. from the very beginning i noticed a rambling noise on the engine, foul smell, vibration on the steering wheel and squeaking brakes. also when i brake the car seems to accelerate like the idle is too fast. i reported it immediately to my honda dealer and they told me to take it to any honda dealer. i took it to honda in gleandale and after inspecting it they told me there was nothing wrong with the car. however the problems continued to i kept taking the car to different honda dealers but none could come up with a solution. when i asked them to replace the vehicle they told me that they all had the same problems and that i had to learn to live with it.! i feel totally frustrated by this situation and very unsafe driving this piece of crap. *nlm

My daughter and i were driving along a busy street when i attempted to slow down because the traffic ahead started slowing down for a red light and my car didn't respond to my braking. i was driving behind a bus and my car kept accelerating towards the bus. i threw the car in park - stripping the gears - and the car kept going. by some large miracle, there was a gap in the traffic coming in the opposite direction, so i turned into those lanes and traveled for a few feet before i came upon a one way street - not in my favor - it's another miracle no one was coming up that street, so i turned into the one way hoping to find some way to stop the car. the twists and turns took away some of the momentum and when i had gone about 1/3 of the way down the one way street, i yanked up the emergency brake and the car finally stopped. the car was towed into the dealership on tuesday, may 6, 2003 and they called me on wednesday, may 7th, to say that they ran all sorts of checks and found nothing wrong with the brakes. the fact that the brakes are now working does not mean that the brakes are good. my daughter and i can testify to that fact because we were the ones who faced that near death situation and i refuse to take a chance with our lives. there is a defect in the brakes and i would hate to start seeing reports of fatalities caused by this because they simply did not do extensive enough tests to find and fix the problem. the dealer is basically saying that since they can't find a problem, i have no choice but the take the car back. i absolutely cannot drive that car the way it is because i constantly visualize the outcome had i been traveling on a highway going 50 or 60 miles an hour. as it is, we are very lucky and thankful that everything worked in our favor and we did not crash. i don't want to become a statistic at which time they will break their necks to find and fix the problem....too late. *nlm

My 2003 accord when put into reverse will accelerate at a high rate of speed with no pressure being put on the gas pedal. the car almost feels like it's out of control and may not be able to be stopped. also, when driving in regular gear the car will continue at it's current rate of speed without any pressure being put on the gas pedal. when the car is under these conditions it feels like the car is stuck in gear and won't/can't get out of this acceleration mode. *nlm

My 2003 honda accord experienced an unintended acceleration while in motion. i increased speed from 40 mph to 50mph to pass a slower moving vehicle in my lane and experienced a surge of power that i could not control by taking my foot off the gas. i needed to brake to restrain the vehicle. the tachometer went to 6000 rpm and stayed steady the entire time putting the vehicle in neutral as i prepared to kill the ignition returned control and the vehicle resumed responding. i have returned the vehicle to the dealer for inspection and am getting a response from the dealer that they have found nothing wrong with the car. i am a 47 y/o male with 30 years driving experience and am quite sure of the circumstances. cruise control was not engaged as i was in morning rush hour traffic i have opened a problem ticket with honda n0112-17-00080. thank you
