Some sort of electrical problem is occurring and causes the headlights to dim and fluctuate erratically. the sound in the stereo also gets lower often times and i wonder if this ties into the headlights problem. i feel unsafe driving the vehicle because it is a distraction and causes me to check my instrument panel and i really expect a vehicle to opperate properly after spending so much money on it.

2008 honda accord headllights flicker when ac is on when fan cycles, occurs every 15-20 seconds. this is a major distraction. drivers in front of me think i am flashing my lights at them. took my car to honda and they stated this is normal. this is not normal. i have owned numerous vehicles and have never experienced such a problem. honda needs to fix this problem.

We leased a new 2008 honda accord and after a few weeks noticed that the headlights flickered. this was very annoying and when we asked the local honda dealer about it they gave us a document that states that it's normal. we didn't like that answer but there wasn't anything that we could do. 2 years later and still constantly having the headlights flicker at night my wife drove the car at night and the lights went out for approximately 10 seconds. we contacted the dealer and they took a look at it and said they didn't notice anything other than the normal flicker. now my wife won't drive the car at night thinking this is gong to happen again and the dealer won't do anything about it.

I have a 2008 honda accord. its headlights flicker and are very dim. this is a huge concern for me. i cannot see very far ahead of my car and it looks as if i am flashing my lights at others. also my tail lights flickers which give the impression i am braking. *tw

I purchased a 2008 accord ex-l with the 4 cylinder engine in june of 2008. the headlights on this vehicle flicker or dim at night as ac or other fans cycle on & off. this is very distracting for me & must be for the other drivers that meet me on the road. i took it to the dealership twice in the past year and was told this is a normal characteristic caused by the electrical load detector (eld) system. they are not able or not willing to fix the problem. this could be a serious safely hazard. i wonder whether it is safe to drive a car that dims its headlights constantly. i do not understand why this cannot be resolved, and why honda does not consider this a major problem. should honda be allowed to decide the dimming problem is normal? the other night on the way home i had someone pull off the road to let me pass, i can only assume it was because of my dimming lights. these lights are not safe and honda needs to fix this problem. *tr

I have a 2008 honda accord ex that the head lights dim considerably when the you have the heat or air condition on. i have been back to the dealer and they say this is normal for honda's. the problem is driving at night when you see this occur and think something wrong electrically and you are distracted. it's so noticeable that i have had cars in the opposite direction blink their lights at me. i have spoken with other owners and they have the same issue. i feel this is a very serious distraction when driving. is there any thing that can be done about this. *tr

Headlights frequently dim and then re-brighten, causing a noticeable flickering when driving at night. this is very distracting at night, even well lit roads. honda has checked and says electrical system is operating normally and it may be, but some interface with the lights and the elp is incompatible if it causes such a noticeable flicker. we drove a honda odyssey with same system for 100,000 miles and never noticed a headlight flicker. *tr

 1. no events led up to the issue. 2. headlights dim/flicker when the a/c cycles on/off. the dimming occurs on average every 20-30 seconds. 3. no parts have been replaced to fix the issue. the honda dealership says there is no fix. *tr

I recently bought a 2008 honda accord ex. every time the headlights come on while driving, they have a significant flicker and dim. i brought it to the dealers attention and he said it was normal. i've discussed with others that have a 2008 accord and they notice the same thing. it is a very annoying feature that supposedly is part of an eld-electronic load detector on this model. i've had prior accords without this problem. hoping that honda would do fix it. thanks. *tr

I purchased an accord exl on 2/8/09. while driving with the defroster or air conditioning on, the exterior and interior lights flash approximately every 30 seconds. we took it to the dealership and were told this is a normal characteristic caused by eld system. they are not able or not willing to fix the problem. this a serious safely hazard, as i drive highly congested roads daily and do not feel safe driving a car that flashes its headlights constantly. other cars do not know this is a normal characteristic. they will think i am an aggressive driver flashing them, and this could cause serious problems. i do not understand why this cannot be resolved, and why honda does not consider this a major problem. there seem to be many complaints about this issue, and i am not aware of any other cars that have this problem. please help us with this issue, as someone may end up seriously hurt due to this issue. you may contact me for my vin but i do not wish to post this information online. *tr

Purchased new 2008 honda accord 4cyl. in june 2008. after a week i drove the vehicle at night and noticed that the headlights and tail light momentarily dim every 30 seconds or so. called the dealer and was told to bring the vehicle which i did. they ran diagnostic test and i was told every is functioning as designed. after doing a google search honda headlight dimming i came upon several forums that host a number of complaint from 2008 honda accord owners who have the same problem. your web site shows at least 76 complaint for the same issue. my concerns are this:1.) no other car has this feature design causing the headlights and tail lights to dim .2.) on coming traffic thinks that they are being flashed causing many to gesture....3.) cars in font think that they are being flashed w/ high beams. 4.) very distracting to the driver 5.) cars behind you think you are tapping the brakes. 5.) some one passing you may think that you have flashed them to come back into the lane prematurely. i could go on and on. this is very dangerous and not normal. please help. there have been successful lemon law suits filed against honda due to this issue. you are our government, your only purpose is to serve the people. please start an investigation into this potentially hazardous situation where a innocent driver is going to get hurt or killed by either another driver from road rage or a trucker that thought they were given the clear signal after passing to come back into the lane only to rub over a honda accord driver. *tr

2008 honda accord exl coupe. the headlights dim slightly about every minute. it does not matter if i have air/heat/radio on - it does not seem to matter what speed/rpm i am traveling. i have not taken it to the dealer - from reading online, honda has been telling everyone this is a feature of the car. *tr

2008 honda ex-l accord coupe - during low light conditions (late evening/night) the headlights flicker every 10 -13 seconds. i constantly see other drivers gesturing at me as if i'm flicking my hi-beams at them. honda says that this is normal and says there is no fix . this is the first new car i've owned that has this problem. the battery is a little bigger than a motorcycle battery. this condition i believe is dangerous to on-coming traffic. this could also lead to failures of various other electronic control systems due to the fluctuating power spikes which could lead to devastating consequences while on the highway or freeway. *tr

2008 accord i4 automatic transmission lx problem, lights dim and blower for heater/defrost slows. it occurs every 20 to 25 seconds. the change in the blower for the heater/defrost is such that it sounds as if you turned the blower speed down significantly and then turned it back up. at the same time the lights dim significantly. i have read many posts here of lights dimming with the a/c running and that honda says this is normal. this is dangerous because of the eye strain caused by the lights dimming and then brightening over and over again. *tr

We purchased a 2008 honda accord ex-l in april of 2008. when driving at night the lights dim when the a/c fan kicks on. i feel it is a dangerous distraction to the driver and other vehicles. other vehicles feel that i am turning on my bright lights and fear for safety of myself and family to another aggressive driver. the dealership and honda will not do anything about this and said the vehicle is acting normal. i would like to see something done with this. *tr

I just purchased a 2008 honda accord sedan. it is ex-l, 4 cyl. auto. we have noted that the headlights would dim periodically by itself and then return to normal. this problems occurs at least when the fan starts to work, and the dimming is quite noticeable. it is very disturbing when driving in the night, and very dangerous when the light changes on the highway. the ac becomes less effective when this happens. i also worry that this frequent dimming will damage the electronic system. i have driven other cars including hondas, but never had similar problems. *tr

Intermittent headlight flicker on 4 cylinder honda accord 2008. oncoming drivers appear to interpret this as my trying to signal them. drivers that i follow also seem to think the same thing. i have noticed this in normal city and highway driving. i am very concerned that it will eventually lead to an accident if anyone misinterprets the flickering (which is very noticeable). *tr

During night-time travel while using the air-conditioning or front defroster the head lights dim every 8-15 seconds when the condenser kicks on... it can be quite noticeable and other drivers think i am flashing my lights when this occurs. this is a safety hazard. i have not tried to correct the failure for viewing complaints here, honda has not acknowledged a problem and thus doesn't have a solution at this time. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2008 honda accord. whenever the headlights are activated, they suddenly dim every 15-17 seconds before returning to normal. the vehicle was taken to the dealer and they stated that the headlights were supposed to function in that manner. the failure has occurred ever since the vehicle was purchased. the current and failure mileages were 400.

My 2008 accords consistently flash/dim every 30 seconds when the auto climate control mode is on. this is a safety issue when driving on a dark road at night as one's eyes naturally look away from the road for about a second-- enough time to be dangerous. i complained to the dealer and they said all vehicles do this. i have never heard of any vehicle doing this. i asked when the service bulletin would be coming out, assuming there is one in the works given the widespread issue, but the service writer ignored my comment. i had to literally demand that the dealer write my complaint on the repair order, and at the end, with my repair order, the clerk handed me an article trying to explain away the issue or pacify me. (it was a honda article, which looked like it was from a repair manual or brochure, which stated that basically, if the customer complained to tell them its normal.) in auto climate mode, the air conditioning compressor/fan kicks on every 30 seconds (even in the middle of winter) and the lights seem to flash at that time. also, the steering pump makes a very loud whining/moaning noise at 1500-2000 rpms, and the steering in the vehicle has a shuttling/slipping sensation in the steering wheel upon turning. the dealer confirmed the steering issue and has ordered a new power steering pump which will hopefully remedy the issue. finally, the driver's door handle, interior and exterior, does not open the door on occasion. this is also a safety issue as being able to exit the vehicle in emergency is critical. for such a highly touted vehicle manufacturer, honda needs to work on fixing problems with their cars on the road and finding a resolution, not just their reputation and/or their bottom line. also, honda needs to instruct its dealers to take its customer's complaint's seriously, not simply attempt to diminish the complaint (i.e. headlights flashing) because it is a widespread issue. i am disappointed with honda's handling of the defects. *tr

Head and taillights dim every 20-30 seconds when a/c is running. this dimming mimics the flashing of your headlights that is the national signal to a semi truck driver that they have cleared your car and it's o.k .to proceed into your lane after passing you. this situation is an accident waiting to happen. it also could easily result in a road rage incident from a driver in front or behind you that thinks you are either flashing headlights or tapping the brakes. i have had the car back to the dealer twice for repair but they are not authorized to even attempt a fix as honda says that this is normal. i contacted honda corp in california and the case manager basically stated that this is normal and case closed. i have recently been told by service manager that honda is looking into the headlight issue and it has been put into extreme engineering(whatever that means). they said however that this is no guarantee that a fix will come. what is it going to take for you to put pressure on honda to fix this and to stop selling these cars until they fix this? does someone need to die first is that your criteria. your whole purpose is to serve and protect the public. please do what is right. *tr

Headlights drastically dim when air conditioner or defroster is turned on. both bright and dims dim down and come back up, like you are flashing your headlights. this happens every 20 to 30 seconds, as the compressor cycles on and off. very hard to see at night when lights dim down. honda claims this is normal electronic load detector operation. problem is potentially dangerous, especially in rural areas. many complaints pertaining to this issue have already been made. i will not drive the car at night if air conditioner or defroster is needed. *tr

02/11/2008101
2008 honda accord 4 cylinder headlights consistently dim and brighten with the a/c on. this is not a minor change in illumination. it looks like you are lowering or dimming your lights and then immediately brightening them. this causes a misconception by others of an intent to pass or to ask them to dim lights if they are coming toward me. honda dealership is saying this is normal. i have never had a vehicle do this before. i have been driving for 35 years and owned numerous vehicles. this cannot be misconstrued as average cycling of the electrical system. the variation of the illumination and the occurrence rate is absurdly out of proportion. *tr

I bought a brand new 2008 honda accord with a 4 cylinder engine. when the air conditioner kicks on and the headlights are on there is a noticeable and quick dimming almost flashing of the headlights and taillights. it is bright enough to seem as though i am flickering my head lights to the person in front of me on the highway and this is a serious safety hazard. i contacted honda both the dealership and a regional representative and was told this is normal and within specs. i am not alone with this problem as i have found many others with the same problem and they were all told the same from honda representatives. i have owned over 50 cars in my lifetime and flickering lights, let alone on a brand new $27000 care should never be considered normal. thank you for your time and i appreciate any feedback you would be able to provide. sincerely, john kalapodis *tr

Purchased a 2008 honda accord june 29,2008. finally got a chance to drive the vehicle for a period of time with the headlight on last night and noticed that the headlights keep dimming momentarily as the a/c or fan cycles about every 20-30 seconds. two issues that i have is that honda is aware of the issues as every 2008 accord does the same thing. it is rather noticeable and very distracting not only to the driver but no doubt to other drivers that think i may be flashing my lights at them. *tr
07/10/200811
On all 2008 accord ex-l 4 cylinder models, the exterior lights (most noticeable on headlights) momentarily dim (flicker) whenever the a/c compressor cycles on. this seems to be caused by the current draw of the two engine cooling fans. according to honda, this behavior is normal and is controlled by the eld (electronic load detector). in my opinion, this continual and noticeable change in headlight intensity is extremely distracting to me (as the driver). i have no idea how these flickers might be interpreted by oncoming traffic. i have owned many cars in the last 35 years and none has ever exhibited this extremely annoying and potentially dangerous characteristic. *tr

I bought a 2008 honda accord approximately four weeks ago, when driving the car (with a/c on) the exterior lights flicker approximately every 15-30 minutes. the dealership has not provided a solution. lights flickering is an unsafe and unacceptable condition. other drivers do not know the flickering lights are not an act of aggression, nor is it safe for driver's to be exposed to continuous flickering lights. there are extensive postings on the internet regarding this problem. i would implore this agency to protect the safety of the public by researching this highly documented safety issue and requiring honda to fix this faulty design. *tr

Exterior and interior lights flicker when the air conditioning compressor comes on. baytown honda service dept, baytown tx, stated this is normal and intended to do that. first they said they weren't aware of the problem, then they produced a service bulletin on the 2008 accord that advised honda is aware of the problem. baytown honda stated nothing could be done because honda said there is no problem with flickering lights. the flickering lights are a distraction to the driver and other drivers. *tr

Headlights, taillights, interior lights, radio fan motor all fade in and out when cooling fan comes on. this was in the shop for this today along with pealing paint, bad seat track, bad upholstery and damage that sloane honda did to my car in philadelphia, pa. someone is going to get killed in these new 08 accords. honda doesn't care. murry cohen service manager at sloane threw me out of the service department, threatened to call the police and refused to give paperwork showing the car was there, but i have the rental agreement they signed for the day. they say all hondas lights go in and out, this is my 4th and this is the only one that does it. honda customer service is no help. don't waste your breath calling. my email is if you have similar problems. i will complain to this site every day and you all should too. 24590 + tax and tags down the drain. i am getting a lemon lawyer and hope you all do to. *tr

2008 honda accord. when the compressor comes on or the fan for the radiator the headlights and tail lights dim and then brighten back to normal. this occurs about every 30 seconds and is annoying as well as a safety issue. when driving on the highway at night with a car in front of you and the headlights blink the person may believe you are flashing your headlights at them. this problem is noticable to passengers as well. i have had many comments made asking why i do not get this fixed before some road rage occurs. i spoke to honda corporate and the dealerships and i have been told this is normal for the car, therefore there is not a fix available. this problem is all over the internet and do not know why nobody that can resolve the problem is. *cn

I purchased a 2008 accord ex-l with the 4 cylinder engine on 5/30/08. the headlights on this vehicle flicker or dim at night as ac or other fans cycle on & off. this is very distracting for me & must be for the other drivers that meet me on the road. i took it to the dealership twice in the past year and was told this is a normal characteristic caused by the electrical load detector (eld) system. they are not able or not willing to fix the problem. this could be a serious safely hazard. i wonder whether it is safe to drive a car that dims its headlights constantly. i do not understand why this cannot be resolved, and why honda does not consider this a major problem. should honda be allowed to decide the dimming problem is normal? *tr

When the a/c is on, the headlights noticeably dim every time the compressor kicks on. this happens about every 30 seconds or so why the a/c and headlights are both on. i feel that this is a safety issue especially when driving at night to have the headlights noticeably dim is a safety concern and nhtsa should really consider a recall/repair of this item before someone really gets hurt. *tr

The headlights on my 2008 honda accord lx 4-cyl are very dim compared to other vehicles on the market. they pose a safety hazard for me as well for other drivers and pedestrians. in two different incidents the headlights almost lead to a severe accident. i would like honda to fix the problem by moving the headlights up which would provide a better view of the road. *tr
