I was driving on interstate 85, and there was a large truck tire laying in the middle of a 4 lane highway, thus causing multiple accidents. my car hit the tire and almost caused a few accidents, almost causing other people as well as myself to be injured fatally. the dot should have cleaned it up, and since i do not have collision on my insurance policy they are not covering any damages. we pay taxes to the state and government to have safe motor ways, and i feel these accidents could have been prevented in advance. *tr

This vehicle is a lemon -- defective throughout. major problem is a transmission that has failed twice -- once being replaced by the manufacturer only after two years of complaining about the problem, being unable to drive any distances, and after numerous times i paid to have the problem unresolved. since it was replaced in july 2001, i began complaining again about problems in may of 2002, only to get the same run around again. costing me money out of my pocket for their defective cvt transmission for which they refuse to acknowledge their defect. finally got it fixed and the warranty extended for the second time, but in the meantime, check out the vin numbers on the nhtsa website and you'll many other honda owners with transmission problems and very similar vin numbers. late fall 2002 to winter 2003 driver side door lock failed and almost immediately after that was fixed the driver side window failed. i had to drive down the freeway in the rain to get home with a window i could only pull up half way. but to top things off, i have to replace the alternator this month. worse of all, my car was experience symptoms that were apparently attributed to the alternator back in march 31, 1999 service bulletin 98-029. however, honda never notified the vehicle owners. they just played the odds that the majority would fail outside of warranty and they wouldn't have to pay a dime. it amazes me that our government allows auto manufacturers to get away with this type of business practice. just because a part failure may not cause an accident doesn't mean it's not dangerous. if i'm commuting 100 miles a day, as i have been for the past several months, and my car broke down who knows where, i could very well be in danger as a single women traveling a lone. i need to be able to count on my vehicle, which i have gone out of my way to insure was always properly serviced. i can not trust honda and will never buy another one.

I reported the front floor mats problems with motorcars on 12/28/99 and was told by the service tech that the mats were not orignal honda mats. i wrote to troy ohio, customer relations concerning the vehicles front floor mats and informed them that they were the one that came with the lease vehicle when i entered into the lease agreement on 10/09/99. why would a vehicle be certified and leased as safe when the drivers' mat slides under the accelarator and can cause the driver not to be able to accelarate and break properly? the numbers on the floor mats are 4647-228 18816 gb-2 97/98 and the carpet mats are the same color and grade of carpet as the interior carpet in the vehicle. honda's service department said that i would have to order mats. if the mats are not honda originals, why didn't the dealer who certified the vehicle install a positive floor mat retention system consisting of a grommet in the floor mat and a pin bracket in the auto for safety? my last comments are questions: in checking the vin number has this vehicle been serviced for the 3 recall alerts? nhtsa campaign number 991002000 - fuel:throttle linkages and control. nhtsa campaign number 99e015000 equip/other pieces and nhtsa campaign number 97v193000 interior systems/passive restraint/air bag passenger? i was in possession of this vehicle 03/26/00 and have not received a recall alert on fuel/throttle linkages and control. *ak

The engine light came on and i took it to the shop to determine the cause. they told me that the exhaust manifold had cracked. they also told me that this is a common occurrence for the honda civic. the cost of repair will be over $600.00 provided that this did not damage the oxygen sensor. if that is the case, then the cost will be an additional $100.00 to $200.00 more. given that this is a common occurence, i felt that it may warrant further reporting to your organization.*ak

Your website indicates that there was a campaign for this item, i paid for the repair, and upon contacting both the dealership where the work was performed, and honda, was told that it only applied to '96 models...is this accurate? should i be reimbursed for this repair? no safety defect listed in summary. *ak

Scott honda mailed a post card to my home in feb 2ooo for car recall. upon calling hoinda the lease agent put me on hold and spoke to the service dept. she then proceeded to say that i would not have engine problems until my car reached betwen 60,000-70,000 miles. she stated that the engine would rumble and the engine light woudl come on due to faulty wiring, etc. i expalined that my car was service and the engine lihgt came on during my inspection and that i spent 450.00 on getting my car rewired etc.. she explained that there was something else wiht the car and it would occur at a higher milage and to bring my car in. i asked her waht to due in case i don't experience problems or if i lost my recall postcard . she stated that it was no problem and to call the dealership mgr. and that he would honor the situation and give me a new postcard.. upon my enigine light turing on...and my contacting honda serive the gentleman was rather scarastic and rude and accused me of not taking car of my car as well as stating that he knew of no recalls for a 1997 civic. would someone be so kind as to investigate this situation?? hondas are reliable cars and the engine should not have probelems @ 3 years old. in addition, my air conditioner and heating system only lasted approx. 2/12/ years. there must be something electronically wrong with this model. thank you for your assistance. sincerely, deidre l. adore. *ak

Hansel honda stated two months ago when we had the engine check light problem, that it was a faulty engine module. the car has had two start problems for which hansel honda stated it may be due to the module but was still back ordered. with the second start problem, one of the service staff stated it may be the module problem but stated they were having problems getting the part. the other service person that very same day, stated it probably wasn't the module and that the part was still on backorder due to high incidence and requests other than hansel honda for replacement module for the defective part. he stated they couldn't guarantee whether the problems with the engine starting was due to the module or not, but that the car was safe to drive for now. hansel honda stated the manufacturer was a problem not them and still couldn't determine when the part would be available. i asked them if so many hondas had been reported to the dealers, why they haven't been recalled. he said he didn't know. as mentioned earlier, it has been 2 months since the part was initially ordered. *ak
