Defect Summary | On certain sedan and hybrid (cng) vehicles, during assembly, the telescopic steering column mechanism may have been over-lubricated with silicone grease. over time, some of this extra grease may drip on the brake light switch causing the switch to fail.
Consequence Summary | Failure may result in a loss of brake lights and an increased risk that the vehicle could be struck in the rear. in addition, a failed brake light switch could prevent shifting the transmission from the park position (vehicles with an automatic transmission).
Corrective Summary | Dealers will replace the brake light switch and install a protective cover overthe switch free of charge. the recall began on october 2, 2007. owners may contact honda at 1-800-999-1009.

My lowbeams all of a sudden stopped working. i checked the fuses, they are fine. my running/fog lights, blinkers, and high beams all work. it sounds exactly like the recall the dealer has for the previous generations of my car found here: https://www.ahm-ownerlink.com/documentum/recall_press%2frecall_press_release_0000060.pdf. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2007 honda civic. the contact received a recall notice from honda regarding the brake light switch on april 5, 2008. the dealer advised her to bring in the vehicle for inspection. once inspected, the dealer stated that they had to order the repair part and would call her to schedule an appointment. the contact stated that the recall has been ongoing since the end of 2007 and the parts should be available by now. she is afraid to drive the vehicle because the brake lights may not illuminate. there had been no failure to date. the current mileage was 14,500. updated 4/29/08 *cn

The brake system indicator light came on, and the brake lights on the back of the car did not illuminate when the brake pedal was pushed. the car was also difficult to shift out of park. the repair was the replacement of the brake pedal switch, a known recall on honda civics from the previous model year. *tr |
