SEAT BELTS

Driver's side seatbelt frayed. taken to dealer for repair and was told that seatbelt being caught in the door caused the damage to the seatbelt. the seatbelt does not retract fully, so this may be causing the belt to be closed in the door. the seatbelt material should be strong and durable and should not be damaged by a door. this is a tremendous safety concern and should be addressed. an order for the replacement parts was not completed by the dealership, so of course, parts were not available at scheduled appointment for repair. the vehicle was forced to leave the dealership, with a faulty safety component of the car (seatbelt) and no guarantee of driver safety and proper function of the seatbelt if involved in a crash. cost is not an issue, since the safety of family comes first and owner im willing to be responsible for charges since this was not covered by a warranty. scheduled with another dealership for repair. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2007 honda civic. while driving 20 mph, the contact rear ended the preceding vehicle which was a large suv, who stopped suddenly without any brake lights the consumer slammed on her brakes. she was wearing her seat belt at the time of the failure, but it did not restrain her properly. the contact's body slammed into the steering wheel and the dashboard. the entire seat belt tore away from the door and the floor. she injured herself very badly and was transported to the hospital. there was no damage to the bumper of the other vehicle and minor damage to the contact's bumper. she called honda of america and they stated that the seat belt worked properly. the crash caused the seat belt to loosen. the contact was informed that no one would come out to inspect the vehicle because they already had pictures and saw the damage. the failure mileage was 3,042. updated 3/13/09 *cn honda refused to inspect the vehicle and stated the seat belt worked properly. there was no police as the other vehicle left the scene and gave the consumer false information. updated 03/17/09. *jb

SEAT BELTS - FRONT

Inadvertently bumped into curbing while making a turn. side wall of left front tire pierced, and plastic bumper moved. bumper easily snapped back into place, tire replaced, and alignment checked. no damage except that seat belt failed in fully extended position after actuation with sudden stopping. honda refused to honor warranty despite vehicle with less than 10,000 miles and two months old. car is 2007 honda civic hybrid. in small claims court honda argued successfully that the seat belt system functioned per design; that a pre-tensioning system is part of the design and is intended to prevent premature activation of air bag. i contend that any system that is designed to malfunction to prevent actuation of another system defies good design practice. i am a small person (135 lbs.) and the abrupt stop occurred at low speed. the impulse of the stop should not have been sufficient to cause failure of the system. *tr
