I have a new set of tires and i am surprise when you start moving it makes noise that seems coming from the wheels/tires and goes away when you slow down. it's more audible in the rear, i don't know if its the suspension or rear control arms that wear out during the years. *tr

I am on my 3rd set of tires on a car that has 58,000 miles. research shows that this is a common problem on honda civics for 2006-2007. there seems to be a problem/defect in the design of the car and honda is not standing behind their product. we need help.

We bought this car new from the dealer in '07. we have been putting 3 to 4 sets of tires on this car per year, for the last five years, that is not acceptable....it runs in to money and is very unsafe in the winter time. while checking on the internet, i found alot of other people with the same problem. we all feel this should be a recall. even replacing the rear upper control arms does not fix the problem, we have tried, and so have others. this comes from the factory. honda prides themselves on safety...this is not safe...the car is constantly fighting with itself on the road therefore wearing tires. please consider a recall on this vehicle. 08 001 was a code i read on the internet, i'm not sure what this is, but sutherland honda in fredericton, n.b. will not make any compensations for this defect. honda knows about this problem, but as of yet will not do a recall. please help us before someone gets killed on the highways. *tr

I have found out that the reason for my irregular wear on my tires has not been alignment problems but a problem that honda has had with not having the right rear upper control arms. i have went through multiple sets of tires and alignments before finding this out. i contacted honda after this find and they are not willing to help in the cost to repair this. *tr

The rear wheels had excessive and uneven tire wear on the inside of both tires, because of the rear upper control arm being too short, causing the camber to be out. this in turn, caused misalignment and excessive tire wear. i had no warning of how fast my tires were wearing out, and they almost wore to the steel belt, which could have caused an accident. i regularly service my honda civic at the honda dealer for each oil change and inspection, but was not notified of any problems at the last service appointment. i believe this is a known manufacturer problem, that needs to be addressed and recalled to be fixed. *tr

There is popping/crackling noise coming from the front suspension, which is occurring in many other civics. seems like a faulty bump stop which american honda should be responsible for because its happening in many cars. secondly, the cheap paint which is used on their vehicles, they recently had a tsb on certain colors, its not only 3 colors which have this issue, i have a galaxy grey metallic which has paint issues on the roof like the other colors. american honda needs to get their act straight or this is the last vehicle i own and won't recommend to any of my friends or family. *tr

I purchased a slightly used civic from a dealer in january of 2009 and began to drive it on icy roads in ontario winter. my wife who usually drives the car complained she was scared to drive it if there was any ice on the road surface because the car would suddenly shift position sideways in the lane. i found the rear tires worn out very fast on the inside of both wheels. i did some research and found out honda had issued a service bulletin to replace the rear upper struts with a longer unit. the dealer did not disclose this information when i bought the car but after i brought it up volunteered to replace them and negotiated with me for half the replacement cost of the tires. i thought this would solve the problem. the next set of rear tires also wore prematurely on the inside in about 25000 miles. when i called the honda dealer he told me i needed an alignment. i paid for an alignment at an independent garage and was told the real wheels could not b adjusted to correct the negative camber. i went back to the dealer who told me that honda did not recognize this defect and the warranty would not cover any remedy. he did a free realignment for me with difficulty and said to rotate my tires more often. i tried that and my next set of tires wore out on the inside just the same. the dealer did say there was an aftermarket part that may correct the problem but i would have to pay for the installation ($600). i have about 180000 kilometers on the vehicle.the vehicle makes rear noise and the vibration cannot be good for the vehicle. this could be a safety issue. *tr

The rear suspension and the rear upper control arm cause excessive and premature wear on tires requiring replacement of premium tires after only 20,000 miles or less. my car has about 80k miles and is in need of its 4th set of tires. needles to say the wear create unsafe conditions while driving faster than 50mph making driving on the interstate a risky endeavor. *tr

I've had this car since new and it absolutely eats tires in the rear. the tire wear is not adjustable and eventually leads to premature tire failure. i've had this happen to me 2 times on highway driving, where the tire has had a blowout. honda is aware of the issue with a design flaw in the rear control arms that causes the wear, but refuses to fix the problem. they have redesigned the control arm, but it does not fix the issue. it is just a matter of time before this design issue kills someone from a tire related failure. you can't see the problem because it's on the very inner most part of the tire. it isn't just that it makes the tire bald - there is severe cupping and the tire is more worn in some spots than others. so even if you visually inspect the tire, by getting on your hands and knees and putting your head under the car, you could miss where the tire is almost worn through, if the car is sitting on that part of the tire. this issue is very dangerous! it makes rotating the tires unadvisable because it ruins all 4 tires instead of just the rear two. it makes it so the performance of the tires is considerably less because parts of the tire are severly compromised. *tr

I replaced the original tires on my 2007 honda civic at 49,749 miles. i thought this was a little premature, but the tread was getting thin so i went to discount tire on 12-28-2010 and had 4 new tires placed on the vehicle. after less than 19,000 miles on the new tires, the passenger-side rear tire was making a loud noise. the technician at discount tire inspected it and stated that the inside edge of the tire is cupping (or looks choppy) and this is typically due to bad suspension, wheel bearings or alignment. i took the vehicle to tom's auto repair and had it inspected for the wheel bearings and shocks and had a 4 wheel alignment done for $55.00. they stated the wheel bears and shocks looked fine and that the alignment wasn't that bad. i then took the car back to discount tire and they agreed to replace the passenger-side rear tire for the replacement cost of $13.25. the technician commented that the driver-side rear tire was also starting to show signs of the same wear pattern, i.e. cupping on the inner edge. the tire which they replaced is not available as it was disposed of by discount tire. i researched on-line and found honda had issued technical service bulletin # 08-001 back on april 11, 2008, with a revision issued on february 5, 2009. from reading numerous on-line consumer comments about this tire issue (which is directly attributable to a honda design flaw in the vehicle suspension), i get the feeling honda's fix will not actually fix the problem. *tr

Excessive rear tire noise and wear. i have been informed there is a service bulletin on my rear upper control arms - they are not marked with a c. (but see conditions under which i was informed, below.) i am having the new control arms installed on 9/2/12. (i had new rear tires put on, and an alignment performed, 8/28/12.) i spent approximately $500 on the tires/alignment. the estimate for the new control arms is approximately $350. i don't understand why i have to pay for this repair. i've noticed there are multiple complaints about excessive rear tire noise and wear (and subsequent need for rear upper control arm replacement) on honda civics of this vintage (2007). why is this only being treated as a service bulletin rather than a recall. by the way, i wouldn't have even known about the problem if my husband wasn't concerned that the noise was a wheel bearing that was failing. i took it to honda to have them check out the wheel bearing and they blamed the noise on a broken tire belt. when i got home from the dealer i noticed the information on my invoice about the service bulletin. they hadn't even mentioned it to me themselves! i have been a loyal honda driver for approximately 15 years. as a result of this issue, plus other things about the civic i'm just not crazy about, i will never again buy a honda product! *tr

Approximately a week after buying lifetime alignment and 4 new bridgestone potenza tires in july 2011 at firestone, el paso, tx, my car started to vibrate in the road while driving at speeds 50mph through 60mph. after many research and diagnosis from honda parts and service shop, different firestone locations and local mechanics, the conclusion is that the upper/rear control arms, front and rear camber arm and bolts are defective as per honda manufacturers. my tires are excessively and unevenly wearing. i have already bought 6 sets of new tires in the last 12 months because of this honda issue, which they admit it is a defect made by the manufacturers. they released a service bulletin (service bulletin 08-001 dated april 11, 2008) that informs honda dealer shop of this issue/defect, but they refuse to take responsibility of repairing it free of charge. i believe that it is not fair that customers buying hondas have to pay for defective parts made by the manufacturers. i would like these defect to be solved and paid by them and i would like refund for at least the last set of tires that i recently bought and are already unevenly worn out (this makes it a useless tire). in case it is needed i have all the paper work that can be a clear evidence to this complaint. like me, there are other honda owners with the same issue. *tr

Popping noise while turning at 5,268 miles. replaced two tires at 19,785 miles. need a front end axle replacement at 31,839. diagnosed and adjusted torqued rear suspension noise at 60,136. replaced rear upper control arms 61,275. replaced shocks, and cv boots at 61,275. struts were making noise due to cupping. struts were replaced at 61,275. two new tires that were recently replaced were replaced again. both tires were feathered and making noise. vehicle is maintained in good condition and is following the manufacturer's maintenance recommendation. car was aligned as required by manufacturer. however, cupping or feathering of the tires still happened. when the rear control arm was not replaced yet, the rear noise was so loud and driving was bad. the tires felt flat and the shock absorber did not seem to be working. it is very hard to deal with both honda america and kolbe dealer. both companies tried to play ignorant of the issues although they knew it all along. i spent $1,419.11 for premature expenses. american honda blamed the premature damages to me. american honda nor kolbe honda did not notify me of the technical bulletins that were issued. also, just because there is a technical bulletin or corrective action does not mean that the problem will go away. design of the rear upper control arm must be reviewed again and tested for geometry with other parts of the vehicle. honda america should tightened its quality control and quality assurance so that its manufacturing facility will not release cars that have defective parts. honda knew very well that the rear upper control arms have design flawed starting with 2002 honda civic. why are they still using this design? is it because they manufactured so much of the wrong parts?

The front left suspension began to exhibit a metallic clunk noise when driving over bumps. the concern was that this problem would lead to a total failure of the front suspension system. a honda dealer assessed the cause to be a failed front suspension bumper stop, which has a honda service bulletin, number 07-078 (nhtsa number 10043607), dated march 2, 2012. this technical service bulletin was accomplished on the vehicle.

Excessive noise began to eminate from the rear tires . stability controll from side to side became a problem. excessive tire wear , specifically excessive inside cupping of rear tires continued. attempts to rectify the problem over the years by rotating tires, four wheel alignment, checking tire pressures were unsuccessful. recently installed upper rear controll arms as recommended by dealer. totally solved the problem. all at my expense. a definite safety issue. all owners should be notified to prevent injuries. survey should be conducted to determine if any have occurred to date. honda should reimburse all expenses.

The control arms on my vehicle are defective and were part of a service advisement. the issue is causing excessive tire wear and tire cupping. this is a serious issue which has the high potential to cause an accident and injuries. i am replacing my tires frequently due to the excessive wear and tear. i am angry that a recall has not been issued due to the seriousness of this matter. i will not let my teenagers drive this car, and am in fact reluctant to drive it myself (i work from hom thank goodness).i am suprised a recall similiar to the ford firestone has not been issued. i would like for you to contact me on this matter.

Rapid tire wear occurred on the inner portions of both rear tires. the problem was discovered after noticing much road noise and having the tires rotated. two new tires were purchased and the rear upper control arms were replaced. the problem still exists to this day after consulting two different honda garages they both confirmed that the rear control arms were installed correctly and are within spec. both garages recommended replacing the tires again, but this is becoming very costly. the ride of the car over the last year has gotten significantly worse and now i'm noticing braking problems. the car hops in the back when applying the brakes at highway speeds. honda is denying the problem and has offered no compensation.

I went to honda dealer for maintainence and found out that my rear tires are wearing prematurely and unevenly. i only have 38000 miles on the car and regularly maintained at honda dealerships. dealer suggested me to change all four tires for that and alignments + replace rear upper arm, which is causing uneven wearing of rear tires. however honda is not doing anything about this issue and they charges customers for all cost for prematurely wearing tires and cost for replacing defectively designed parts. i have searched online and many other customers are complaining about this issues and honda is unresponsive to the issue.

Rear tires are cupping and they've become very noisy after 5,000 miles. problem first noticed: november 2011. the rear tires were always slippery in tight curves at normal speed. went to route 23 honda, nj for a check up on 02/16/12. they blamed my new tires (10000 miles old). charged me $96.25 for a 4 wheel alignment, no problem found with the rear wheels. i have asked them about service bulletin 08-001 (uneven or rapid rear tire wear) but they did not admit any fault. they've said my car does not need a repair as per sb 08-001 mentioned above. i have contacted (opened account with) american honda motor co. they did not call back.

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 honda civic. the contact stated that the rear wheel bearing failed prematurely, causing the vehicle to move from side to side while driving. he also noticed a grinding noise coming from the rear end. the dealer had not been notified of the failure. the manufacturer was notified who provided no assistance. the contact replaced the rear bearings and the o ring. the current mileage was 49,000 and the failure mileage was 45,000.

My 2007 hit 80,000 miles and i just had to get my third set of rear tires (after the originals) because of extremely fast wear in a cupping pattern. it has gotten so bad that between one oil change to the next my independent mechanic told me i needed to replace two year-old tires immediately because they were in danger of the tread separating from the body of the tire and causing an accident. the abnormal tire wear started at about 39,000 miles when the first set of tires wore out. i had thought i just had some bad tires for the first and second replacement sets, but after i bought a third set of rear tires - and my second set of michelin tires - i figured there must be something else to this and so checked with the dealer. the honda dealer acknowledges this is apparently a common problem with the 2006-07 civics and the (sort of) fix is to replace the control arms in the rear suspension and do a 4-wheel alignment. they don't see it as a safety issue and apparently honda will not do the replacement at no charge.

I am now on my 3rd set of tires for the rear of this car. it keeps wearing the inner rear tires until the belt becomes exposed and heat up. there is a danger that if gone unnoticed that one of the tires will rupture causing a blowout and a high speed accident!

Premature tire wear and failure due to rear upper control arm suspension defect.
12/01/201179000
The tire dealer says rear tires are wearing prematurely and rear control arms must be replaced or new tires installed today will also wear prematurely. rear tires are cupping. this causes terrible road noise and a rough ride. honda issued a factory service bulletin to dealers in 2008 about the control arms having a design defect that causes tires to wear prematurely. however, they never informed their customers of this problem. i have burned through two sets of tires in 4 years and less than 80k miles. i just put the third set of tires on today. i only found out about the control arm problem by doing research on the internet. it appears several honda customers have had this problem on models 06-08. some have reported control arms snapping in half. since this problem took some time to diagnose, the warranty has expired. honda should be held responsible for this design flaw.

Excessive noise at highway speeds caused me to ask dealer about this as one shop stated rear shocks were worn and needed to be replaced. dealer printed out service bulletin 08-001 which explained the problem about rear tires cupping and improper upper control arms being installed when manufactured. dealer has not said cost of incorrect part is covered, and i will have to buy two new tires, replacement cost of both upper control arms and four wheel alignment. this is a manufacturing error on honda's part and consumers should not have to bear the cost of part and tire replacements. american honda should recall and replace. many bona fide complaints on this fault, which contributes to personal and vehicle safety. most owners are unaware of this problem!
02/15/20081
The rear suspension has a geometry problem, the upper control arms are too short resulting in negative camber which causes the rear tires to wear out quickly on the inside edge. i bought new tires and they are ruined after 12k miles. apparently honda is aware of the problem, there is a honda service bulletin 08-001 about it sent to dealers. as for safety, the rear tires appear to be fine from the outside, plenty of tread left. it is only the very edge on the inside of the tire that is worn quite badly. hence the safety issue: someone could be confident they have new tires in great condition from the outside appearance, until the inside edge wears out to the point of the tire blowing out while they're driving. this really should be a recall for all affected civics.

Rear tire wear to the belts. no adjustment of camber possible. owner has no way to prevent this dangerous and expensive wear. these vehicle should all be recalled and rear camber adjustable components installed regardless of vehicle miles. wear happens very quickly and is not shown at all on the front tires which have a fully adjustable suspension.

The front anti-sway bar on the 2007 honda civic ex is dangerously weak. the slightest side wind while driving on the interstate causes the front end to lift up on one side, causing the car to be unstable. twice i had to swerve on the interstate. both times i thought the car was going to roll down the highway. i feel very lucky to be alive. after replacing the front anti-sway bar, the rear end still had some sway, so i replaced it, too. only eiberg makes replacements so far for 2007 & up for the civic ex. the car is now safe to drive on the interstate and during windy conditions.

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 honda civic si. while driving at approximate speeds of 50 mph, the front passenger side tire blew out without warning. the next week, the rear driver side tire blew out suddenly. upon further inspection, the contact believed the failure to be attributed to the manner in which the tires were mounted to the vehicle. the dealer advised the vehicle would need a specific unknown tire and an alignment. the contact confirmed the failure persisted and the dealer was unable to determine the exact cause of the failure. the failure mileage was 15,000 and current mileage was 75,000.

2007 honda civics eat up tires. something is wrong with the suspension of the car that causes the tires to wear at unevenly and dangerously quick. we only get 1/3 of the warranty life of tires and when we replace the technicians tell us the tires are unsafe to drive on. they are worn unevenly, blistered on the inside so much that wires are sticking through. this is a common complaint for this vehicle. *tr

There has been uneven tire wear, particularly at the rear of our 2007 honda civic. ever since we bought the car. the feathering of the tread resembled a tracking problem, but we also had wheel bearing failures. three were replaced over the last 3 years. the dealer never checked the track despite my queries. i now find that there is a honda service bulletin that was issued regarding rear suspension in february 2008. the dealer still hasn't addressed the problem beyond selling us new tires and adjusting the track and charging us for the full cost. they did not perform the recommended replacement of components. *tr

My complaint is that honda has (1) knowingly put in faulty (suspension parts) upper control arms in the front & back of the honda civic, (2) failed to inform customers of the problem (a recall is needed), (3) failed to properly reimburse customers for the tire damage due to the faulty control arms installed in the vehicles. i bought my honda civic used at around 13k miles. since then, i've needed an alignment every month. despite this my tires became excessively worn at 27k. i went to two honda service stores (mission valley & pacific honda in san diego) to complain about the excessive need for alignments, road noise, & tire wear. they knowingly withheld information & failed to inform me of the service bulletin 08-001 since they would be required to replace the upper control arms (a warranty item) that they didn't want to replace. in the service bulletin, honda informs the dealers of common complaints related to tire wear & suspension & advises them to replace the rear control arms on the honda civic. honda also will reimburse customers pro-rata for tire replacement if they have less than 25k in mileage. if hadn't have done my own research on the internet, i would not have known about this service bulletin. i took my car in around 26k so that they could replace my rear control arms. they did this for free but said i didn't qualify to get my tires replaced since i was over the 25k threshold. if i had known about the bulletin, i would have been able to get my tires replacement by honda earlier. it was their faulty parts that led my tires to wear excessively in the first place. i had to shell out $650 to replace my tires at around 26k miles. i've probably spent $500 dollars in alignments because of the control arms too. honda should own up to the faulty parts entirely and stand by their product. see honda service bulletin 08-001. *tr

My 2007 honda civic (currently 42,000 miles) has a loud noise and vibration when driving. the sound has become worse as the more miles i drive. when the rear tires are rubbed across, flat spots on the tires can be felt. honda wrote a repair forum stating that the cause of this is the improper design of the rear upper control arms. these arms are too short causing the camber of the wheels to be incorrect. i have called honda corporation at least 4 times and have contacted ourisman honda of laurel (where i purchased the vehicle) at least 5 times. neither one has been of any help. tom alexander (service manager) from ourisman honda of laurel has not returned my phone calls. he told me that since my car was out of warranty (past 36,000 miles) then he would look at my case as goodwill (as in he looked at my service history like oil changes and such with the dealership and will base his decision on replacement at no cost on this, ridiculous). i want my rear upper control arms replaced with no cost since the part was incorrectly designed. *tr

My 2007 honda civic ex started to vibrate excessively at highway speeds and there was an incredibly loud howling noise coming from the back tires. i took it in repeatedly and was told that my tires were fine, and that essentially i was imagining this problem and or blowing it out of proportion. it was only recently that i learned of honda's service bulletin 08-001 for uneven and or rapid tire wear. with information in hand, i went back to the dealership to which they acted like they knew nothing of the bulletin. after keeping my car for the day, they said in the first call that it was due to lack of rotation (even though) i rotate every 10k ,then they call back and say that my back two tires are worn-out; but the wear is not comparable to the wear that would fall under the bulletin. they then proceed to tell me that it is typical to have to replace your tires every 30-40k miles. i have owned 7 hondas and have never had to replace tires that soon. it is just amazing to me that i have detailed every symptom in that bulletin, prior to even knowing that it existed and they are going to tell me that it has nothing to do with the rear upper control arm. i am taking it to another honda dealership and will continue to do so until the problem is resolved. i am severely disappointed in honda. *tr

2007 honda civic lx vibrates excessively at approximately 70 mph shaking driver and passengers to the point that conversation via bluetooth hands free device is greatly impaired. the vibration has already led to early tire wear and the vehicle pulls to the right when driving. i have already paid for wheel alignment twice and replaced both rear tires once and a second rear tire a second time seemingly due to this problem. i also fear damage to the vehicle or that there will be threatened vehicle safety, as the car feels like it is shaking apart at times. the vibration/shaking occurs all times that the vehicle approaches 70 mph and many times at slower speeds. on-line research has shown a too-short rear arm in the vehicle suspension causing a number of similar problems in several 2007 vehicles. honda has so far shown no acknowledgement of a problem in this arena nor offered to do anything about it. *tr

Purchased 2007 honda civic ex on 3/10/07. on 8/7/07 took car in for routine maint. oil pan drain plug replaced. on 8/9/07 steering system made noise when turning. took to dealer, no problem found. on 10/8/07 took car back to dealer with same issue. dealer said during assembly some rear wheel speed sensors may have been improperly installed and do not seal the hub assembly. sensors were inspected and they deemed no repair necessary. on 12/26/07 took car to dealer for same noise when turning wheel. steering wheel locked up when driving!! when accelerating, car made a whining type of noise. dealer kept my car over night and found p/s pump whining due to no fluid in system. p/s rack was leaking. power steering reservoir was empty. found power steering rack leaking from both ends. replaced power steering rack and realigned wheels. on 7/7/08 took car to dealer, steering wheel locked up again while driving. still have noise when turning the steering wheel back and forth. dealer kept my car for 3 days without giving a loner to me. when dealer did diagnostic, they pulled up 7 codes and stated gauge control lost communication, may be old codes related to past repairs. did not find a cause for steering to lock. found that the noise when turning the wheel was caused from the seal at the firewall was rubbing on steering shaft. corrected insulation and found when at idle and turning wheel, hood vibrated and made a noise. they adjusted rubber stoppers and rechecked saying it is all ok. now, today on 7/17/08 i had steering wheel lock up on me for a brief second. took my car to a mechanic i know and they told me to fill out this form. they said the noise i hear in my steering column should have been fixed by dealer. i called dealer at 3 pm today and will be taking my car back to dealer tomorrow morning at 9. my car is still randomly having the steering freeze on me when driving, the noise when turning my steering wheel, and i now have a crackling noise in my a/c! *tr

I purchased a new 2007 honda civic ex coupe from the local honda dealership. within a week i noticed that something was wrong with my car. my car felt as though my tires were not turning properly and there was excessive noise coming from the rear of my car. i returned to the dealership and was told that nothing was wrong. on two additional occasions, i took my car back and was told again that nothing was wrong. the 3rd trip to the dealership, they said that i needed an alignment. this past weekend, i took my car to another place for the alignment and was told that i had a suspension problem, that all four tires were wearing unevenly and inappropriately. researching the internet, i located numerous honda customers with the same exact problems. i found that honda has known of this problem since 2006 and not corrected the problem. nor have they notified their customers. honda released a tsb in april, 08 but still will not take responsibility for the damage that has been done to my car. they said that they will replace the suspension/control arms but will not replace the tires on my car. at 24,000 miles on my car and a new car warranty, i feel as though i, the consumer, am getting screwed in this deal. the public should be notified and a recall should be issued. *tr

Tire vibration started at 5,000 miles. dealer rotated and balanced tires and said you are all set. driving home on the highway noticed vibration was still present. next visit took service for a ride and they said it sounded like bad rear wheel bearing that they did not stock. left the car for two days and when i came pick the car up they said we changed the right front wheel bearing? i said i was told they were changing the rears? they said nope the right front was the problem. driving at highway speed it was the same as before. called the dealer and asked if anyone actually test drove the car after repair. mechanic said the car was fine? brought the car back again and took the service manager for a ride he said yes it sounds like rear wheel bearings. left the car again for two days and when i picked up the car they said they changed the rear wheel bearings and a recall that came in for the rear abs sensor and seals. driving home same vibration. also a rattle coming from the right side dash area was never fixed in four tries. i now have 34,000 miles and the tires are completely worn out and this would suggest that their is a severe suspension problems with the 2007 civic lx. dealer has no clue. please read all the complaints on tire wear and if you are thinking honda think again. *tr

Slow throttle response since purchase, door glass rattle since purchase, the third gear would give resistance, which is a known problem with the six speed transmission. i patched the problem by changing the transmission fluid and installing a shorter shifter yet this is not a permanent solution. honda has refused to repair the actual problem with the third gear synchro and at one point stated that it was probably caused by my driving, the problem with the vehicle going into third gear is a known problem and there is a technical service bulletin that honda corporate has released for the exact problem. the headliner rattles, door gasket seal has been coming off since purchase, suspension popping noise in the front passenger side strut since purchase and the sound has become more frequent, the driver side visor was defective and was replaced, the driver door hits the fender when opening just started happening since honda worked on my vehicle. i have been taking my vehicle to two different dealerships (recommended by honda corporate) and nothing has been properly repaired. i feel as though i have been given the run around for the past year. honda has made several attempts to repair the problems and has not been able to, they have only damaged my vehicle during their attempts to repair it. they have damaged the front bumper three times, the side of the vehicle once, the door and fender once. they of course denied any involvement in the damage, then repair it under warranty. *tr

Defective rear upper control arms on the 2006 - 2007 honda civics. honda chose to withhold this information from consumers and only to issue a service bulletin to dealerships. this issues causes your car to go out of alignment and your tires to have an irregular wear pattern. this is an issue that creates an excessive amount of noise from your tires and may impede your ability to stop and to turn. this can be dangerous and expensive, at it can also cause premature wear to your suspension system. honda's decision to deliberately withhold this information from consumers puts consumers at risk when it is left to the dealership to be the ones to determine which cars are involved / affected. this is not just an isolated incidence where only a few cars have been affected and numerous consumers have had their tires ruined due to this defect. http://honda-tech.com/showthread.php?t=2225229 my tires are 60,000 mile all season tires that have been completely destroyed at 24,000 miles. they are extremely loud and although the tread depth is exactly the same on all four tires...because i rotate the tires every 4,000 miles, no one at honda ever determined that my car was one of the ones that had the defect. i believe that honda did not want to have to issue a recall because they did not want to put out the expense to do so and felt they would deal with consumers on a case by case basis. i have had the problem corrected and have had the service manager drive my car, subsequent to the repair. he does not dispute the fact that the tires are loud and that the damage to the tires was done specifically due to the defect. however, honda is still refusing to replace my tires. i do not feel comfortable driving my family on tires that have been ruined solely because of this defect and feel that honda needs to not only issue a safety recall for the defect but also needs to be responsible for replacing the tires that have been damaged due to the defect!

Certain 2006 and 2007 honda civics were produced with improperly spec'ed rear upper control arms resulting in significant damaged to the rear tires (cupping). honda issued two tsb's but only acts on the problem once the tire damage is pronounced. cupped tires effect braking, handling, and in extreme cases, tire failure. i own an 06 and 07, all dealer maintained, and of the four dealers i and my daughter have dealt with, only one brought the problem to my attention once my tires were cupped and i complained of a vibration in my suspension. the rear upper control arms were replaced but i will have to replace the tires at my expense. individuals who do not properly service their civics are at risk of poor handling, tire failure and accidents due to cupped and failed tires. the internet is replete with complaints on this problem. this is a serious problem that has been kept under the radar by honda even with the potential risks to the public. a recall should be made!

I purchased a brand new honda civic 2007 and within 2 years (~25k-26k miles) the rear tires started vibrating loudly. when i took it to the servicing center i was told that there is a problem with the rear control arms which can cause uneven or premature tire wear in all 2006-2007 civics, except for the si. while the problem developed over a few months i was in warranty but when it was diagnosed and i went in for a claim honda said i was out of warranty so they would replace the parts for free but i would have to pay for labor and would get no reimbursement for the totally chopped tires. this is a very wide-spread problem (online honda/civic forums are full of complaints) which i believe poses a grave road safety problem and danger to the lives of owners who could get into accidents due to bad tires, if not diagnosed on time. honda has been shunning its responsibility by not sending out a recall and addressing this problem with due diligence. i urge you to take this matter up with honda and ensure that the thousands of affected civic owners get complete paid repairs and assurance from honda.

Dangerous handling and extreme uneven tire wear due to defective rear suspension design. honda issues a tsb 08-001 alert to all honda dealers, but refuses to replace defective rear suspension at mfg cost. three sets of tires and a new set of rear control arms later, after just finding out about the tsb 08-001 alert, has resulted in over $3,000 of repairs to replace tires, brakes and the failed rear suspension (control arms) components that have caused these issues. there are multiple class action law suits both active and pending. please contact us with questions as we have documented all our maintenance in great detail.

In 2008 i noted that the tires of our 2007 honda civic were wearing unevenly. i discovered this when i rotated the rear tires to the front after about 25,000 miles and it just roared. we took it to the honda dealer and were told that there was a problem with the upper rear control arms and they would replace them and prorate the rear tires. at that time i elected to replace all four tires and assumed that honda had fixed the defect. after 25,000 miles, the roar is back and i again have cupped tires on the rear. this is a safety issue, as eventually this supsension defect could lead to either tire failure and/or loss of control while driving. honda is aware of this problem (service bulletin 08-001) but told us when we returned to the dealer that it was an alignment issue. while poor alignment can lead to cupped tires, i have been searching bulletin boards on the internet and see that this is a common problem and that others are still experiencing tire wear that results in cupped tires after the 15,000 to 25,000 miles on tires that are supposed to last 60,000 to 75,000 miles. my daughter drives this car to and from college and has not had a major failure yet. however, it is obvious to me that had i not recently ridden in the car and heard the problem that she would have continued to drive it, unaware that she may be heading for a catastophic tire failure due to this design failure. specifically, it appears that 2007 honda civic rear ends will drag the rear tires down the road if the there are rear passengers or cargo. in other words, the suspension is incorrectly designed and rear tires do not track correctly when the car has load in the rear or trunk. i believe that this should be investigated before there is a rash of tire failures due to this design flaw.

Purchased the car new at local dealer. the rear tires exhibit excessive wear prematurely. the original set of tires was replaced at approximately 35,000 miles. the second set (75,000 mile tires) wore out after 30,000 miles (65,000 miles on the odometer). our third set of tires (also, 75,000 mile tires) are now worn out with the odometer reading of 97,000 miles. just discovered that a tsb has been issued for replacement of rear control arms. have not pursued that route yet.

My 2007 honda civic gets uneven rear tire wear referred to as cupping with an accompanying vibration and noise. honda has issued a service bulletin, 08-001 regarding this problem and the corrective action required to fix it. they denied that my vehicle had this problem and would not pay for any corrective action.

A friend mentioned his 07 civic was shaking. he did not know what to do about it, so i looked it up. this needs to be a honda recall because people are having to pay big money for tires, alignments etc. for honda's ~~ known ~~ problem. 2007 honda civic rear suspension complaints (control arm failures) many (76) complaints of this here: http://www.aboutautomobile.com/complaint/2007/honda/civic/rear+suspension the result is because of rear control arms on this vehicle being manufactured too small causing a negative camber of the rear wheels and causing premature and uneven tire wear of the inner half of the tires. this has been an issue for over 2 years now increasing over time and was never recalled by honda but simply issued to dealerships under service bulletin 08-001 which was never carried out during regular service of the vehicle at the dealership.

Unsafe handling. the rear of the car abnormally darts laterally when going over concrete expansion joints, potholes or similar road imperfections. this momentary darting - or inability of the rear suspension to track correctly - is more pronounced when cornering, especially at highway speeds. i experienced a spin-out (fortunately, no collision) on a wet road at 45-50mph due to overcorrecting for this darting condition. in conjunction with poor rear suspension handling, accelerated and excessive inner rear tire wear is experienced. effectively shortening the lifespan of a 35,000 to 50,000 mile tire by at least half, if not more. it is even more excessive and accelerated if the tires are not rotated. after my spin-out, i started researching 2007 civic handling / tire-wear on-line and it appears many, many 2006-2007 civic owners have one or both of these conditions and that honda is aware, but not willing to recall this unsafe rear upper control arm design/manufacturing flaw.

Our 2007 honda civic ex 4dr began to experience mild shaking during driving with an increased shake the faster we drove. this resulted in almost total loss of control of the vehicle during slight slippery conditions on the highway during the winter because of a fishtailing effect that was being induced. the result is because of rear control arms on this vehicle being manufactured too small causing a negative camber of the rear wheels and causing premature and uneven tire wear of the inner half of the tires. this has been an issue for over 2 years now increasing over time and was never recalled by honda but simply issued to dealerships under service bulletin 08-001 which was never carried out during regular service of the vehicle at the dealership. only now when i complained of a shake and further research by myself have they decided to do anything about it. i have winter and summer tires now that have uneven wear on them and have experienced headache-inducing shakes at highway speeds. at the present moment honda is repairing these rear control arms but i have to flip the bill for labour, an alignment, and 2 new sets of tires which are said to be covered under the service bulletin by honda. this is completely irresponsible and should be addressed to the company and a recall be generated for these vehicles.

My 2007 honda civic 2-door coupe had wrong rear suspension upper control arms installed at the factory. at the 30,000 service, the honda dealer rotated tires and i had a severe shimmy in the steering wheel. the dealer rotated the tires back and told me i had defective tires--they had worn unevenly. rear tires wear also very noisy, especially on smooth roads (load rumble and a beat). i had a blow out at 40,000 miles and replaced all 4 tires. at the 60,000 mile service the dealer rotated the tires and again i had a severe shimmy. dealer said the tires were defective and to return to tire dealer. i went to tire dealer and was informed that my car had a rear suspension problem. tire dealer also told me to look online as many civics had rear suspension problems. went back to honda dealer, showed him a form from the tire dealer stating my car had a suspension problem. honda dealer inspected rear supsension and found my civic had the wrong upper control arms installed. after dealer and i contacted honda with the complaint, honda offered to cover all but $300 of the $800 repair. i had the repair done by the dealer and paid $300. very disappointed that honda is not volunteering to repair a problem that existed with my car from its assembly at the factory.

Shortly after the vehicle warranty expired, we began to notice a loud humming sound coming from the rear wheels which steadily got worse. also, we experienced extreme lack of control over the car during icy conditions. we discovered that the humming sound was coming from rear tires that were severely cupped. it was necessary to purchase new back tires, get the front and back aligned, and purchase and have installed, a stabilizer bar. we understand that this is a common defect in this model and year of car.

I also saw there is a tsb recall (honda tsb 08-001) on the 2007 civic but not on the si on replacing the rear arms. my 2007 civic si has the same visible tire wear and tread cupping which would be fixed by the recall but my car is not included. the fix is a simple replacement of the rear chamber arms. i bought this car brand new and had it in on a recall for the 3rd gear. i'd like that same treatment and to be included on the recall to change my rear chamber arms. i'm annoyed that honda will fix the problem on all the other trim lines but not the civic si.

Honda civic 2006-2007 have a defect of the rear stabilizer bar. this causes the tires to wear unevenly. it is not vi sable unless you are under the car. the tire wear causes these cars to become unsafe. when i discovered this on a web-site i took my car back to the dealer and asked them to repair this defect. i was refused and at that time called american honda. this was noted and referred to their review board. no response has been received from honda although they are aware of the dangerous nature of this problem. they were informed of my concern regarding my safety and those on the road with me. the extreme cost of replacing these parts, a 4th set of new tires and realignment will not be covered as the warranty is expired. this is a defect that they know about, and have known about. would it have been recalled when they realized the problem the cost would have been covered. thank you

We noticed our 2007 civic vibrating badly in late 07. on a long trip, the rear tire blistered and shredded; the tire was replaced. all in all, between december 2007 and june 2009, we had two allignments and put on 4 new rear tires due to uneven tread wear on the tires. after some research, we found out about the bad rear control arms on the vehicle. many driver's are experiencing this problem. my husband took the car to a local honda service center where we were told that it was not under warranty anymore due to mileage (it's a commuter car so we put on a lot of miles pretty quickly) and since it was not recalled for the control arm, just a service bulletin issued )service bulletin 08-001 issued in february 2008), that we would be financially responsible for everything regarding the repair. we have spent an estimated $1200 in repairs. this is a huge safety concern and should definitely be investigated further. honda is not taking any responsibility for the faulty control arms that were installed on these vehicles.

My 2007 honda civic has rapid and uneven tire wear resulting in the car to not respond correctly when turning at high speeds. because of not being able to adjust camber on the rear upper control arm. there is no adjustment on the car to fix this problem.

Rear tires eaten to the point of failure within 10,000 miles. no camber adjustment for 2007 honda civic. discussion with honda dealership resulted in the suggestion that i file a complaint as honda american will not honor their own ts document(tb 08-001) without additional approval from honda of america. honda of american requires a complaint, an investigation, and approval by a regional manager. additional follow-up appears to be nothing more than than road blocks for car owners at the expense of safety. the dealership admits a repair kit is available for about $100, not including any tire replacement.

I am on my 4th set of tires for 2007 honda civic ex. rotated regularly, serviced car at dealership, only 52,000 miles. online research shows defect with rear upper control arm. honda service bulletin 08-001 shows honda was aware of the issue with premature and uneven tire wear. there should have been a recall as this a safety issue. initially i was not aware i was driving on bald tires until the car didn't pass inspection. i discovered problem online and went to dealership. after making excuses and denying scope of problem service rep was suprised when i showed him the service bulletin. stated car is affected but out of warrantee. i called honda corp and am waiting for an investigator to return call. honda will have to pay. i will not pay out of pocket for this. i will go to bbb or state ag.

Tl*the contact owns a 2007 honda civic. the contact stated that his rear alignment needed to be repaired and had cause the tires to fail. the dealer has made three attempts to correct the failure. the tires were replaced and rotated which included an alignment; however, the tires have continued to wear out prematurely. the honda manufacturer advised the contact to take the vehicle back to the dealer. the failure mileage was 35,000.

Rapid and uneven tire wear within 5k miles. wears down to belt and becomes very unsafe to drive. have had to buy three sets of tires. rotate tires every 3000 miles. honda admits to installing faulty rear upper control arms but refuses to replace them unless i pay for them. if a part is bad from the factory why is the customer responsible. *tr

My 2007 civic ex coupe currently has a mileage of 66,000 and i'm having my fourth set of tires installed today, all of which were properly maintained and rotated. i've had 2 highway-speed blowouts in the last year, and somehow managed to avoid serious accidents both times. all of this is on top of the ridiculously loud road noise generated by this issue. the inside rim of both rear tires wear excessively fast. i was unaware of any manufacturing issue as honda has not issued a recall for this very serious problem. apparently people have to start dying in sufficient numbers before honda will fix this issue with a recall.*cw *tr

The rear upper control arms on both sides of my 2007 honda civic coupe were defective. this caused both rear tires to become badly cupped and caused excessive road noise. my personal safety was placed in danger as these rear tires could have failed at any time possibly causing an accident. this vehicle only has 23,000 miles on it. honda is aware of this problem, but has not initiated a recall. research online shows this problem to be extremely common. *tr

Uneven tire wear on 2007 civic. first set of tires only lasted 26,000 miles. brought in to honda for uneven tire wear and they blamed goodyear for the wear even though the changed the rear control arms to correct the improper camber from the factory. see service bulletins for free replacement of rear suspension. honda would not replace tires. i filed a complaint with the better business bureau. honda offered to pay half of the tire replacement. i declined their offer. we were about to go to arbitration when honda called and told me to bring the 2007 civic in and they will replace all 4 tires at not cost. it took about 4 months to settle, but eventually all tires were replaced at no charge. if all else fails, file with the better business bureau. they will hold the dealer responsible for not correcting the issue earlier to save the tires. *tr

2007 honda civic with uneven rear tire wear that is noticeable at 5000 miles and cups rear tires so bad by 10000 miles that there is so much noise in vehicle it sounds like the wheel bearings are shot. by 15000 miles the tires are showing cords because of uneven wear. took it to dealer and they replaced arms on rear, sold me new tires for rear, and realigned vehicle. said problem was corrected. now have 11000 miles on new tires installed with same problem on new rear tires. dealer will not fix problem. looked on internet at same complaints on same year honda civic about uneven tire wear. same problem across country with dealer not knowing how to fix and says it is an alignment problem that they will not fix. this is going to be a big problem as these cars are slowly placed into the used car market and tires are a second thought because if you are standing beside the car, the tread looks brand new while looking down on the tire and you assume it is not the source of the noise and keep driving on them. at interstate speeds a tire failure could be fatal. *tr

 1. i drive a 2007 honda civic ex coupe. my car was perfectly fine. i was on the freeway cruising along, at highway speeds, and suddenly, out of nowhere, my rear control arm broke. 2. my rear control arm broke for absolutely no reason, it snapped in half because the parts made to assemble them were made from lower quality material. the quality of material used to put together the rear control arm was completely unsafe. whoever thought of using that particular material for a rear control arm in a vehicle should definitely have charges pressed against him for attempted manslaughter. i did not hit anything on the road, and the piece just snapped. this is definitely due to a lack of commitment to use quality material on the rear control arm. this was on the freeway at freeway speeds. when a rear control arm breaks because of faulty material, scientifically, what happens 99.999999% of the time is the wheel flies off, the driver loses complete control of the car, the car spins a few times, the car gets hit by a few other cars, the car flips over a few times, and the driver is left dead. how i did not fall into that scientific calculation is nothing less than an act of god. if i drove one more mile, this would've probably occurred. fortunately, i did not crash. this has been an experience that has been completely traumatic to myself, and i am in complete fear of driving any honda now. i haven't had the money to replace the parts on my vehicle, because my car is out of warranty. this particular piece of the car should have definitely been in a recall. 3. nothing has been to correct the failure as of yet. the car is sitting in a shop, but i am without the budget to fix the faulty pieces that almost killed me. *tr

Honda has installed faulty rear control arms on their 2007 honda civics. they will not recall this part. they have issued a service bulletin. the defective part causes the tires in the rear to wear prematurely and in a cupping manner. the tires have been know to blow out at about 20,000 miles. honda replaces the part but will not replace the defective tires. the repair shops will allow customers to leave with defective tires. *tr

I bought a new 07 honda civic si sedan. the rear upper control arms are not adjustable. in fact they are built to give the rear tires more negative camber for better traction around turns. if i put two people in the back of the car it gives me even more negative camber and with that my i go through tires quick. i have even noticed that when driving through snow the car wants to change lanes by itself. i still have not had this problem taken care of. all they have to do is put adjustable control arms in the rear like the other civics. it does not make sense to me. i can see this being a safety issue if some one was using this as a family car and never checked there back tires. this problem can lead to premature tire wear and blow outs. i have to rotate my tires every 2k miles and we mostly just drive down a straight freeway. *tr

The rear suspension / upper rear control arms are defective leading to excessive negative rear camber. this caused rapid tire wear to the inside edges and a potential safety issue in wet conditions. honda has issued a tsb (08-001) that covers this problem however they have excluded the si model in their tsb. i requested and received and parts diagram showing the faulty upper control arms on the cars covered by tsb 08-001 carry the exact same part number as those on the si model that is excluded. later year model si cars have a new design upper control arm to correct this problem. my dealer said that honda will not cover my car under this tsb although the problem and parts are identical. *tr

I purchased a 2007 honda civic from autofair honda of manchester nh and have had all oil changes and tire rotation services done with their service department. i have over 39,000 miles on the car. the autofair service department never once informed me about a honda bulletin regarding the civic's rear suspension causing rear tires to go bald, which mine did. during my last tire rotation on april 14, they did not notify me that my tread was going bare. on july 4, i discovered that my back tires were bare after realizing that they were making considerable noise while riding on the highway. i purchased new tires the following monday from a local tire store. during my online search for new tires i found out that other civic car owners had similar problems due to a rear suspension fault with honda civics. i then made an appointment with autofair to have them check this issue on july 13. the service department then informed me that their was an issue and needed to be repaired. because my warranty has expired, i had to pay autofair to fix this issue. they put in the following part: 1 04523-sna-a01 set, upper arm rr. i'm upset that they did not inform me about this issue sooner. we've had a very wet june and my tires were not safe for driving in such conditions. other people at the autofair service department waiting room have said they've had the same problem.*tr

I have a 2007 honda civic lx with 12040 mile, that developed excessive road tire noise, and excessive tire wear on the inner tread of the rear tires. i took the car to the dealer and they installed the upper rear control arm kit, replaced the flange bolts and the worn rear tires. (honda service bulletin 08-001) the dealer did this all in less than one hour. car ran great when i left the dealership, no excessive road-tire noise. 10,000 miles later (total car mileage 22040) i have the same noise & tire wear problems. this time the tires are wearing on the outer edge of the tread. i took it back to the dealer , they said that i need two new rear tires and a four wheel alignment. they said if i buy a pair of tires from them ($275.00) that they would give me a complementary alignment. (four wheels alignment should have been done when the arms & tires were replaced at 12050 miles under service bulletin 08-001) well, i believe the cause of the second noise & tire wear was do to the first visit to the shop at 12050 mile, when they replaced the upper control arms, two rear tires was that didn't finish the job! the last thing to do (per service bulletin 08-001) is to do a 4-wheel alignment!!!!. no where on the first work order ticket does it say that a four wheel alignment was done. the car was in the shop less than a hour, flat rate time for arms replacement and 2 tires is 1.3 hours. great job twin-city honda ! ! *tr

Premature tire malfunction--severe checker board fashion cupping across the tires tread made us replace the rear tires on our 2007 honda civic. this is not a tire problem as our front tires are wearing normal. the problem is a design flaw, honda used too short of rear control arms on their rear suspensions. a recall has been issued for some 2006/2007 civics, but not all. please be advised that many other civics need recalled to address this safety issue. tires control the vehicles stability and traction when accelerating, driving and stopping. *tr

Honda civic 2006_2007 have a defect off the assembly line in the rear of the car it chews through tires due to a negative camber of the rear wheels. i am getting new upper control arms and my rear wheel bearings replaced at no cost to me,and my 2 of my tires(hopefully 4 in the end) prorated based on wear. there is a honda service bulletin issued ion this, but i was never made aware of it. my fear is that a car owner who doesn't examine his tires closely will see no excessive wear since the negative camber effects the inside of the tires. this could result in a nasty blow out and some cases have been reported on the internet, although i can't substantiate them. i feel this is a real safety issue. i have been a long time honda owner and love their cars, but this has really left a bad taste in my mouth that they have not been made to issue a recall on this issue. the technician admitted it is a known problem that is a design issue. i'm sure this would be a huge cost to honda, but it's not worth someone's life. thanks for your time. *tr

2006 through current honda civic si have a problem with the inability to adjust the rear camber of the tires. normally what happens between 2,000 and up miles the owners are experiencing wear to the inside of the rear tires that goes undetected until a blow out of the tire occurs. the fault lies in the rear control arm that does not allow for camber adjustments of the tires. honda sells these vehicles new with the suspension as is. the owners have attempted to get honda and the dealers who sold the cars to make good on a repair that cost upwards of over $800.00. they wont. having been an army accident investigator my concern lies in the failure of the control arm that does not allow for camber adjustments to the rear tires. currently the rear tire or tires are allowed to rub against the rear suspension system causing a blow out of the rear tire (s) causing a loss of control of the vehicle and a subsequent crash. the potential problem could be remedied by the recall of si version civics for installation of an adjustable rear control arm. it is my understanding original civics have been recalled by honda to correct or examine this problem. the number of accidents incidents or fatalities i do not believe has been investigated or reported. buyers of these vehicles, insurance agents as well as accident investigators should be made aware of this potentially dangerous problem. it might just save a life or two. i believe that a data base for all civics involved in automobile accidents should kept to identify this problems severity. *tr

Noticed uneven tire wear and vibration on my honda civic hybrid, and notified honda service about this issue when i brought in the car for oil change. the service department looked at the car and said that the rear tires were worn, and this was due to rear suspension problem. honda would cover the cost of that fix, but i also needed four new tires -- not covered by honda. he offered to move the rear tires up front and just focus on the rear ($280 for two tires). after researching the issue and finding that there was a service bulletin issued last spring, i declined to have two worn tires with evidence of cupping put on the front of a front wheel drive car. i asked why i hadn't been notified of this design flaw when i had brought in the car for a pre-roadtrip check in july (he said if i did not tell him to look for rear tire wear they wouldn't look) or why he didn't note it two weeks later when i brought the car in because the a/c had failed on the trip (another known defect, i now realize). the car also seems to have an electric switching irregularity, which has yet to be diagnosed. the service rep said unless i specifically ask, they wouldn't have looked for the rear suspension issue -- even though there had been a service bulletin -- because not every civic has the problem. i cannot imagine that at 15,600 miles (where it was in july) that the tires did not then have signs of uneven wear that now has necessitated tire replacement at 19,000 miles. i replaced two tires, one of which honda covered. we have issued a complaint with honda to cover the cost of two other new tires, which they said would be resolved within three working days. *tr

I purchased a 2007 honda civic hybrid in september of 2007. i follow regular maintenance schedules as recommended by my dealer. as of 8-18-2008, my vehicle had over 12000 miles on it. the day prior to a regularly scheduled oil change, tire rotation and misc. inspection, i encountered a flat tire. upon inspection of the flat tire and other rear tire, it was noted that both rear tires were completely bald. both tires were replaced that same day. on the following day, i took my car to my scheduled appointment at the honda dealer. i expressed my concern that i felt there was a problem that led to premature wear on the rear tires and that i also wanted to be reimbursed for the cost of the new tires. in my conversation with the service manager, i was told that they suspected the problem was due to a control arm issue and he told me that they have seen this issue many times beginning with the 2006 model. ultimately, they replaced/ repaired the control arm at no charge, photographed the tires, retained the damaged tires and offered to attempt to secure a refund to cover the cost of new tires. i expressed my strong opinion that honda should have made this potential problem aware to all honda customers. i believe it is a huge safety issue and i feel fortunate that my family and i were not involved in an accident due to rapid wear of the tires. after this experience, i did some internet research and was astounded to read of many incidents that were nearly identical to mine. it looks as though this issue is very common to the honda civic and many people have the same complaints. this issue needs immediate attention and i am concerned about the safety of all individuals riding/driving in these vehicles. i am considering selling my civic hybrid. i will continue to try to bring attention to this issue. *tr

I was experiencing excessive tire noise from the rear of my 2007 civic lx coupe. i also felt a slight shimmy coming from the rear of the car. i had the tires rotated and immediately began hearing a much more pronounced hum/vibration noise coming from the front of the car. additionally, there was very perceivable shimmy on the steering wheel between 50 and 60 mph. i concluded that whatever was wrong in the back of the car was now transferred to the front and it had to be tires. i took the vehicle to my local honda dealer and they confirmed that flat spots had developed on the front tires (which had been on the rear until the day before). these flat spots were the cause of the vibration/hum. they also informed me that honda does not warranty tires. the dealer said i needed to replace both front tires and that i should also allow them to replace the rear control arm as a warranty repair. the dealer never actually said that the original factory rear control arms lead to my premature tire wear. they only said that honda was advising customers to have them replaced as a warranty repair. i had to pay for two replacement tires and labor - about $280. *tr

I recently purchased a used 2007 honda civic, and noticed on my first drive at highway speeds that the rear tires made quite a bit of noise. upon inspection by a local mechanic, he determined that the tires were cupped and unusually worn for a car with only 18,000 miles on the odometer. i had the tires replaced. since that time i have researched the issue and found that there is a rear suspension control arm service bulletin from honda regarding this problem, but no official recall. i will contact my local dealer regarding this service bulletin, but since i had the tires replaced i'm worried that they will not see a problem and will not fix the issue. i feel that there is enough evidence for the nhtsa to force honda to issue a recall on this, as the uneven and rapid tire wear is an expensive and potentially deadly situation caused by honda's mistake.

Tire noise started develop months ago, and got worse on honda civic 2007 with less than 8000 miles. today, honda s/b 08-001 was done, but tires are not replaced. all four tires have quite noticeable cupping, especially rear inside. since i drive carefully to achieve 49mpg avg i got on this hybrid on suburban blvds, i believe honda needs to replace tires at their cost as well without prorated schedule mentioned on the s/b. *tr

There is excessive wear of rear tires on the civic. tires are bald after less than 5,000 miles, while the front look brand new. honda says no problem, but they need to address rear tire wear. have had 4 wheel alignment and still the tires are bald after too few of miles. makes no sense on a front wheel drive car. this car is dangerous. *tr

I have a 2007 honda civic. recently noticed a noise from the undercarriage, which sounded like what i have heard before as a result of tire wear. but with just over 15,000 miles, didn't think this was likely. contacted the dealer where i purchased the car and made an appointment to have an assessment done. the dealer confirmed all four tires bad, inside tire wear and cupping. suggested i replace the tires with a new set of kumho brand tires, replace the rear upper control arms and do a 4 wheel alignment. tire treadwear 6/32 and 7/32. since i had not rotated the tires, i figured the front treadwear was partially my fault, but had concerns about the rear tires because i could not remember such problems in prior automobiles i have owned. was also puzzled by the need to replace the rear upper control arms in a car with 15,772 miles. would have had the work done though, as we were headed on vacation, but estimated work time was 3 hours. mechanic said no safety problems and i decided to continue on to tennessee on vacation. besides, wanted time to think about the rear tires and control arms. tonight was researching the problem on the www. and easily found individual stories from civic owners with the same problems. one web site had information about honda finally acknowledging rear suspension problems and control arm replacement to solve it. in some cases they reimburse for tire replacements. what concerns me though is that if there is a rear suspension problem and the control arms solve it, how long will that fix the problem. are they using the original equipment, or a beefed up control arm. if some improvement in the arms hasn't been done, then a new set of tires will only start wearing with the first miles driven and honda owners will have the same problem in 15 - 20, 000 miles. *tr

This complaint is related to one filed previously. there are 4 states that required manufactures to notify all owners and leasees of technical service bulletins or motor vehicle warranty adjustment programs. theses states include: california, connecticut, virginia, and wisconsin. see: http://www.autosafety.org/article.php?did=721. i am a california resident and i never received notice of tsb: 08-001 nor any of the other 8 tsbs. you can find the california civil code 1795.90, 1795.91, 1795.92, 1795.93 at: http://www.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/vctop/appndxa/tocs/cctc.htm 1795.92. manufacturers shall have the following duties: (a) manufacturer shall, within 90 days of the adoption of an adjustment program, subject to priority for safety or emission-related recalls, notify by first-class mail all owners or leasees of motor vehicles eligible under the program of the condition giving rise to and the principal terms and conditions of the program. (d) adjustment program means any program or policy that expands or extends the consumer's warranty beyond its stated limit or under which a manufacturer offers to pay for all or any part of the cost of repairing, or to reimburse consumers for all or any part of the cost of repairing, any condition that may substantially affect vehicle durability, reliability, or performance, other than service provided under a safety or emission-related recall campaign. adjustment program does not include ad hoc adjustments made by a manufacturer on a case-by-case basis. *tr

On wednesday, june 11, 2008 i was driving from mar vista, ca to san leandro, ca with my 4 year old son and 20 year old sister in law. we were on the 580 w driving in the far left lane at 65mph at 11:30 am when we heard an explosion in the rear of the car. when we inspected the car, the right rear tire was blown through. the side walls were intact, but the whole top part of the tire was not connected to the side wall. my car is a 2007 honda civic coupe ex and it had about 8300 miles. i purchased the car in july 2007. the crash caused significant damage to the front left side of my car. the car is now at a body shop and is being repaired in san leandro, ca. we have the defective tire. after doing more research i found that honda had issued a service bulletin about uneven or rapid tire wear. tsb 08-001 on february 8, 2008. i did not receive notification of this serious defect because honda is not required to notify consumers regarding tsbs. this defect is serious and affects nearly all 2006-2007 honda civics. this tsb needs to become a recall. all owners of 2006-2007 honda civics need to be made aware of this life threatening defect. i understand that tires should be checked regularly, and many consumers do, however, my tires did not give me any warning of uneven wearing. actually, it would be hard to notice since my 2007 civic coupe ex is not quite on the road and you can feel any little bump in the road. i was told that this was normal because of the stiff suspension. overall, i seriously hope that this is addressed quickly. many unsuspecting drivers, many of whom have driven honda's in the past are not expecting this type of problem which can cause tire blowouts and possible fatal accidents. it would be unfortunate that a class action suit or the death of innocent consumers prompt honda to make this tsb 08-001 notice a recall notice.

*tr

I took my 2007 honda civic to the dealer because of extreme vibrations from the rear of the car. i was told that the rear suspension is bad, causing my rear tires to go bad. they said that they had seen this problem on other cars and would pay for half of the price for a new set of tires but only if i bought the tires from them. my car is 15 months old and i have already had it in the shop twice for problems. i will never buy another honda. *tr

Uneven tire wear caused by rear suspension problems. i am now on my 4th set of tires for my 2007 honda civic lx sedan with 58,000 miles. each time i have replaced the tires, i thought the wear was tire related. 6-11-08, i learned from the honda dealer, the problems was because of a defective rear suspension. honda (the mfg.) has declined to assist with the payment for any of the tires. someone is going to have a bad accident because of this problem and possibly severe injuries. *tr

Small vibration heard in the rear of the car. took car in for routine maintenance, told them of sound coming from the rear of car. they informed us that there was a service bulletin on the car, advising them to replace the upper control arms and tires. parts were on back order. reported on 5/22, today is 6/9, part still not replaced. honda refusing to replace tires, even though defective part caused rear tire to ware unevenly and rapidly. fear this is a safety issue and am concerned about driving on the highway. *tr

2007 honda civic with 20,000 miles was making a loud noise on the highway. sound was coming from rear of car. took car to dealer and recommendation was made to replace rear control arms. repairs could not be done on a timely manner because dealership will not be able to get parts for several days. problem has likely resulted in uneven tire ware, which may cause handling difficulties and possibly a crash, but dealer wanted us to drive the car home under these conditions. after insisting, we were given a loaner car. *tr

2006, 2007, and some 2008 honda civics have out of spec upper control arms on the rear suspension which results in excess negative camber, improper wear of rear tires. *tr

2007 honda civic coupe rear tires wear out prematurely due to a geometric design flaw. the vehicle shakes and pulls due to this problem. dealer would not provide honda recommended repair until advised that i knew of the issue. then they agreed to the repair under warranty but not the damaged tires. honda has it as a service bulletin #08-001. not a recall they will not do anything about the damaged tires. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2007 honda civic. the rear of the vehicle vibrated at various speeds. the vehicle was taken to a mechanic for an oil change and the rear suspension was inspected. the mechanic noticed that the tires had uneven wearing and advised the contact to go to the dealer. the dealer stated that the control arms and all four tires needed to be replaced. the dealer will cover the cost for the replacement of the control arms, but not the tires. the failure mileage was 19,660 and current mileage was 19,860.

Tl*the contact owns a 2007 honda civic. while driving 60mph, the front end was shaking. an independent mechanic rotated the front passenger and driver tires to the rear and stated that the rear control arm failed and caused excessive wear on the tires. the dealer agreed with the diagnosis and replaced the rear tires at no cost to the owner. the dealer advised the contact that they dont know when the parts will be available to repair the rear control arms; however, they would notify him of the availability. the dealer also failed to replace the front tires. the failure mileage was 14,845 and the current mileage was 15,000.
