I was turning on from a left lane into a left lane separated by a cement divider; the car went over the cement divider and almost overturned. at night with normal lighting and normal speed. i have had another incident 3 months prior making a right turn. i noticed carefully by comparison of the exact position of similar make sedan cars; this car has the mirror attached to the door panels and presents a hazard (has 2 blind spots) making it especially dangerous at night with low beam lights and old painted divider lines. it needs immediate action and recall so the dealers can reposition the mirrors. *tr

Sun visor split apart causing the visor to loosely stay in the line of sight of the driver. the mechanism that holds the visor up does not hold the visor up anymore because of the split. looks like the heat of the interior of the car mixed with the plastic pieces of the visor caused the defect. honda needs to not just replace the parts, they need to redesign the visors using different materials that will hold up to the extreme heat that car interiors have to face. currently they are replacing the visors with the same defectively designed visors. they need to be forced to fix the problem, instead of treat the symptom! type in honda sun visor defect in any search engine and you will see that this is a very common problem! *tr

My 2008 honda civic has a notorious problem: defective sun visors that drop down, covering more than half the vertical space of the windshield in front of the driver. the problem, which involves a metal bar that expands in hot weather and forces apart the two sides of the plastic visor, is prone to happen in hot weather. this is the fourth time it has happened to me. a california superior court ruling requires honda to replace these as needed up to 100,000 miles. however, the safety issue remains unaddressed. the replacement is the same as the failed visor, and it too will fail in about 10,000 miles (or less, in severe climates). two screws hold the visor to the roof of the car. can't honda be require to design a new visor without this defect (requires only making the channel for the metal bar wider) and replace the visors with an improved version on all affected honda civics (2006-2009)? it is not fun viewing the road ahead by peeking around and under the dropped visor. honda civics have a severely slanted windshield, and the vertical viewing space is limited without a failed visor.

Driver side sun visor split at hinge along seam. gravity now drops sun visor into driver's vision to block all sight of cars or traffic lights.

I've noticed several complaints about broken sun visors. when getting ready to go to work i got into my 08 civic and had discovered it had a crack in the driver side visor. the visor was in the down position, which i found odd since i get home at 2am and i am the only person in my car. the crack appears to be an internal problem. prior to that, it was always very hard to swing the visor to the side or to clip it back in. i find this broken visor to be not only an obstruction of view but also a petty issue that honda should recall and fix. it sounds like there's a defect in the visors and honda needs to replace them even if the car is out of warranty. *tr

We've had this vehicle for less than a year. it was purchased for our teen daughter because we thought it was a safe car. today, she reported that on her way home from school, the visor split making it impossible to adjust while driving. two hands are needed to adjust and the sun was blinding. thankfully, she didn't get in an accident. we fear for our daughters safety, and that of others, especially after reading the other 76 very similar visor complaints. we had heard about such complaints before (not realizing it was civics) and thought it was pretty silly, however, now that it's happened to us, it's not so silly. it's seriously dangerous.

Both driver's and passenger's sun visors cracked and fail to work in the area where visor rotates. visors need to be replaced because they do not work at all. the car is a 2008 honda civic si sedan.
08/17/201170000
My wife was on her way home from work when the visor's plastic rings that secure it inside on the plastic post that hangs down from the ceiling broke. i have taken the visor itself off the post, and have disassembled it. it is apparent to me that the grade of plastic used to secure this part cannot withstand the flexing required when folding it down to block out the sun while driving. not only am i now driving with my head near the roof to block out the sun in the mornings and evenings, but also my wife could have been seriously injured due to losing control of the vehicle while trying to figure out what went wrong when she pulled the visor down. it would not go back into the up position while she was driving. from reading reviews about this issue online, i am not the only one with this problem. i think this is a serious safety issue that honda should recall.

The sun visors in my 2008 honda civic have broken and are unable to be used. it cracked/split apart at the arm. after doing some research i discovered that this is a recurring problem in the civic since 2006. i plan to visit the dealership for a fix but have been informed that if the vehicle is no longer under warranty, it will be fixed at the owners expense. if this has been a recurring problem since 2006, seems that there should be a recall for this.

2008 sun visor on driver side failed summer 2009. i have been driving with this issue since then although it is very hard to drive into the sun due to glare and i have desperatly needed it. today, 06-29-2011 the passenger sun visor has now failed. so i went online to see if there is a recall and there is none. this is very common with the honda civic apparently and this needs to be corrected as the sun is awful down here along with any road glare due to precipitation. even the warranty replacements are breaking after they heat up.

I have a 2008 honda civic and the driver's visor just decided to come apart. it is still attached, but it will not stay up in it's proper position, instead, it falls in front of my face causing me to be distracted. i am paying for school out of my pocket and cannot afford to replace it just yet. i have to leave it down at all times, and it cannot be pushed back, i have to leave it straight down in my face and bend down to see street lights and other things. it just did this one day, and i never even use my visor. i also only have about 40k miles on my car.
06/20/201139193
Both visors failed completely within 24 hours of each other. while i was driving the driver side visor fell without my touching it and i could not get it to stay up. it blocked my visibility so i had to hold it up so i could see clearly to drive. upon inspection i saw that the visor had split at the hinge, basically looks as if it had exploded from the inside. when i got into my car this morning, the passenger side was in the same condition. this is a safety concern, if you are driving the visors obstruct visibility. how am i supposed to drive with two visors blocking my vision? i can't get them to stay up. there is no option for visor under failed component 1 and 2 below so i selected visibility/wiper.

For the second time since buying this car new the driver-side visor has split in half. the separation occurred at the seam where two plastic parts are joined. the visor will no longer snap into its proper position and hangs down, obstructing visibility and creating a driving hazard. the first incident occurred at approximately 30,000 miles. it has broken again at 50,000 miles. this apparently is a chronic problem on this make and model.

The visor on my 2008 honda civic will not stay up. it looks like a defect on the left-hand hinge. the hinge is split open and makes the sun visor drop. after looking on the internet, it seems to be a manufacturer defect since a lot of other honda owners seem to have this problem. potentially dangerous since the visor continually falling blocks my vision through the windshield. if i swing it to the left, it blocks the view from the drivers side of the window.

 1) hot days 2) sun visors fall down and block vision of road. 3) driver's side was replaced by dealer out of warranty. i was charged $30+ for the part because vehicle was out of warranty. passenger side has not been fixed.
06/05/201146312
Both driver's and passenger's side visors split open almost simultaneously. today (6/5/2011) was fairly hot (in san antonio tx), while driving, i pulled the visor down due to the brightness of the sun and the bright reflection of the sun from another car's windows. my daughter did the same thing also. almost at the same time, when adjusting the visors back up, there was the sound of a pop and the visors would not stay up. this became a safety problem as it would dangle in the field of vision all the time. the plastic appears to have split down the center joint along the length of the visor

The sun visor in my 2008 honda civic has fallen apart. i am the only driver of the car and under normal wear and tear it would not stay up out of my way. after a month like that it just fell off completely. this occured around 32,000 miles. after investigating online it seems like a common problem that will cost more than $100 to fix. i have seeing because of the glare of the sun.

The sunvisor on the passenger side broke and was replaced about a year ago, the replacement recently broke and needs replaced at my expense. the visor hanges down in the drivers field of view and is in the position that a person of average or above average height can strike their head upon in in the event of a crash or even entering and exiting the automobile.

My 2008 honda civic, i have to change the visors(both driver side and passenger side) for the third time in less than 3 years. i had to change the visor every year and i had enough of this none sense. i have to drive 20 miles to fix the problem and i just don't like it.

I got in my car and pulled down the sun visor on the driver's side and it broke. i tried pushing it back up against the top lining, but it kept falling down. i had to drive 10 miles to get home with my vision partially blocked because the visor would not stay up. i understand this is a common problem with many honda civics.

The driver side sun visor broke while adjusting within normal operation. the visor now hangs loosely in the upright locked position, causing an obstruction for head motion. while in use to block the sun, the visor hangs lower than designed and obstructs vision.
01/02/201012050
The sun visor on both sides is cracked and fails to stay up. it makes it difficult to see traffic signals or block the sun from your eyes. it is a driving hazard. apparently, this has been a problem for about four years. they have not changed the design.

The sun visor on the driver's side of my 2008 honda civic ex-l broke while under warranty and the dealer replaced it. now, out of warranty, the visor on the passenger side has broken. i have not pursued any action from honda, yet. i have been reading on-linethat this is a frequent complaint and i wanted file my own complaint to add to the others.

Over time, the plastic portion of my driver's side sun visor rotted and broke so that the visor is constantly down. because of this, my field of vision is always restricted. if i tape the visor up, frequently i'm blinded by the sun or other bright lights. i have contacted honda regarding this defect, but as yet, they won't fix the problem

I have a 2008 honda civic. after about 30k miles, the driver side sun visor is damaged. the visor is cracked and the metal stick is exposed. the visor doesn't stay up and has to remain down or else it will hit my head when i drive. i am the only driver and the visor doesn't get man handled. i read on several sites that this is a problem with year make and model. honda will not fix the problem because the warrenty expired. this is a safety issue and usually visors don't get damaged that easy. i am hopeing that honda will fix it without charging $56 for the part and $200 for the labor. help.

I purchased a new honda civic sedan in 2008. at around 40,000 miles, the driver's side visor has split apart and will not stay up. it flops down making it difficult for me to see the roads. i have not taken the visor to get repaired, but my research shows that this has happened to several other owners of the same type of vehicle.

2008 honda civic. consumer states problem with the engine and brakes *tgw the consumer stated the air conditioner was not working properly for 20 -30 minutes at a time while driving. the ac knob was turned on, but the blower was not working. when the consumer returned to the dealer, she was informed dye had been placed in the ac system and to return in 3 weeks to see if there were any leaks. the consumer returned 3 weeks later and no leaks were found. the dealer advised the consumer that nothing could be done unless ac/heater blower was not working at the time. in december 2009, while it was raining, the windshield became fogged, because the blower was not working. the consumer was able to get to the dealer in time for them to witness, that the ac/ heater blower was not working, but as the technician went to drive the vehicle into the service bay, it began working again. on one occasion when the consumer arrived at the dealer, the blower was not working, but when the door was closed, it began working again. the consumer believed there is a wiring problem. the consumer also stated the engine would surge when the brake was applied. *jb

I have a 2008 honda civic. 1 year into owning it, the driver's side visor split on the seam so that it wouldn't go up or down, it hangs down in one position. i got it fixed still under warranty but now just 2 years later, it has split again. i barely use it. it is up while i'm driving (when' it's down, i'm so tall it's in my line of vision) and when i park, i put it down so that i can put my sun visor up. that's it. i called honda and even though this would be the 2nd vior in 3 years, they will still charge $75 for another one.

2008 honda civic - sun visor fails to fold up - hangs down in front of driver creating safety issue. dealer says warranty does not cover visors. second visor fails several months later. visor blocking view could cause serious accidents with injuries.

My 2008 honda civic lx sunvisor split at the seam. this makes it so that it will not flip back up in the upright possition so it just hangs down in my view. i almost ran a red light today because of it! this is a huge safety issue not only for myself but for the other innocent drivers i might harm!!! honda said that it was not a recall issue because there was no safety issue here. they wont replace it because i am past my 36k warrenty. i looked online and many other people have had the same problem...multiple times! make honda fix this before anyone loses their life over it! shame on honda for not acknowledging this as a safety issue!

Sunvisor splits due to hot weather. sunvisor will no longer stay up or down properly and causes improper visibility. visibility is a **safety hazard**. problem is common and has been documented for the last few model years. honda will not replace.

I owned a 2006 honda civic coupe lx. the sun visor on the driver's side split at approximately 48,000 miles. the dealership reluctantly fixed the visor. i sold the vehicle in 2008. i purchased a 2008 honda civic sedan. at 44,000 miles the sun visor on the driver's side split. this is obviously a design flaw. you would think honda would have corrected this problem between 2006 and 2008! this is a safety problem. the sun visor will not stay up and it continually drops down in my line of view. i am not able to replace because it is out of warranty, and i cannot afford to replace at this time. this issue should be corrected by honda. if i had two honda civics (2006 and 2008), and this problem occurred on both, it is obvious honda has a design flaw.

I own a 2008 honda civic. at around 42,000 miles, my drivers side visor cracked on the top and dropped down into my line of vision. the visor could not be placed back up out of my line of sight. i took my car to the dealer, who replaced the visor at a cost to me (about $100.) because this is an obvious safety issue (obstructing line of sight for drivers), i believe that this problem should be an automotive recall, and that honda should replace visors that fail free of charge. this problem is widespread as there are many complaints about this on the internet. frankly, i was quite surprised that this safety issue was not fixed at no cost to the consumer, regardless of warrantee.

I haven't had a crash or incident (yet) but my 2008 honda civic sun visor just came apart and now it hangs down in my field of view. it won't stay retracted because it is too thick (since the seam popped). this is definitely a safety issue.

The sunvisors bind and split in warm weather, resulting in the visors swinging freely directly in the driver's line of sight. this failure occurs approximately once per year. while under warranty, the dealership acknowledges this is a common issue and replaces the visors. i've had three driver's side visors replaced in under 36k miles. several other people i know with similar model honda civics (2006-2009, lx, ex, si) experience the same issue at the same frequency.

This is the second time in the last several months that i have needed to replace my sun visors. the first time in june of 2009, my driver side sun visor was melted by the heat, cracked open and would no longer remain in the up closed position, instead, it would hang in my face, impeding my vision. suffice to say i was not pleased. just yesterday, (9/06/09) the same thing happened but to my passenger side. i have not folded down my driver side for fear of it melting and hanging in my face but yesterday a passenger used the passenger visor and left it in the down position, and the next day it was melted. i am afraid that it will happen again on the driver side so i do not use my sun visor at all for fear of having to spend time taking it to the dealer to have it repeatedly replaced. *tr

1.)both sunvisors on my 2008 honda civic si have had to be replaced twice in under one year. the clips break and cause the sunvisors to drop down and not be able to placed back in the up position. 2.) the failure has occurred 2x in one year. once broken the visors have to be taken off in order to see to drive. 3.) both sunvisors replaced twice in under one year and covered under warranty. *tr

The failure occurs when the car is parked outside and the temperature will rise inside the car causing the sun visor to split apart. when this happens the sun visor will not stay up anymore causing the driver to be distracted with the sun visor moving around. it has happened to my driver side first then 500 miles later the passenger side broke from the same hot weather conditions. luckily my car was still under warranty and it was fixed but other civic owners not in warranty have not been so lucky. *tr

There has been no wreck or fire---this is a complaint for your tsb compilations....we have an 08 civic lx: the transmission shifts roughly, and with delays. slowing down and then re accelerating lightly causes a delay----as if the transmission/control module can't figure out which gear to get into--- and then a rough engagement. from d to reverse, there is a harder engagement than should be. it's as if there is a problem with the control module or the torque converter. my dealer says all these things are normal in a civic auto transmission. we have an 07 accord exl and it has none of these problems, nor did any other vehicles i've had in the past with a.t. it seems there should be some control module reprogramming or software patch for this transmission. also, as a safety problem, it is harder to see out of this windshield during rain, esp. at night, than any car i've driven. possibly the extreme slant of the glass? as a safety problem, as well, the brakes have a soft pedal, as well, and require more force than our accord(much much more)or than any car i am used to, except one with air in the lines....dealer says this soft pedal is normal, as well. *tr

Drivers sun visor on 2008 civic ex coupe suddenly swings down creating hazard especially at night. this visor is useless and refuse to remain up. it appears several plastic pieces inside the visor are popped out making impossible to function correctly. this seems to be a consistent problem with 2008 civics. at my scheduled service i plan on talking to the dealer about problem and correction. *tr

Sun visors on 2008 honda civic exl malfunction. within a couple of months after purchasing the car- the sun visors started to malfunction. seemed to be caused by interior heat in the vehicle. they (both left and right) finally failed to where once they were in the down position you could not putt them back in the stow position with out using two hands - need not say much about the safety hazard here and with following. also, from stow position they keep falling down on their own accord. contacted the dealer - since the car was under warranty they replaced them. i told the dealer that it was a design flaw probably caused by expanding plastic parts due to heat. told the dealer that the new replacement would probably do the same thing with time and honda corp should be notified. not sure they notified honda of the potential problem or safety concern. *tr

Both sun visors on my 2008 honda civic ex sedan swing down suddenly and unexpectedly. this abrupt malfunction blocks view of both the road and the rear view mirror, creating an extremely hazardous driving situation. when they swing down, efforts to return them to the ?up? (never have been deployed) position are completely useless. both swing down again and refuse to remain up and out of the way. the visors are made up of several plastic panels. at least one of the panels in each visor seems to have warped due to normal summer temperatures. it appears that deformation is what prevents the visor from working normally. it is just a matter of time before this causes a serious accident. *tr

After the recall for the sun visor melting, i got both the driver side and passenger visor replaced last year. its been one year and they melted again. honda repaired them but i do not want to have to go in every year for a replacement. they need to fix the underlying issue. the warranty was extended but only for 100,000 miles or 7 years. if they continue to use the same visor, then after 7 years or 100k miles, it will still be a hazard. my friend in arlington also has the same make and model and she is having the same issue with the already recalled and replaced visors. *tr

I had bought my car new in march 2008. it is 4+ years since and due to work commute i have accrued more than 132k miles on it. this summer, about last week, suddenly both the sun visors got cracked about 2 days apart. i was heading out for lunch, and i flipped up the sun visors to remove the sun reflecting sheet from the windscreen. and the sun visors simply cracked. now the sun visors are not staying up and it partially blocks my view all the time. keeping the sun visors turned to the side also is not very practical. i looked up online to learn that the sun visors in 2008 civics have a manufacturing defect that causes them to crack ( http://visorsettlement.com/ ). when i went to the dealer to fix it, unfortunately they can't be fixed for free because the visor warranty was extended only till 100k miles and i am already at 132k+ miles. honda should replace the visors regardless of the mileage because it is a manufacturing defect and not the user's fault. does the extended warranty of just 100k miles mean that honda is not responsible for its own fault after that limit? i would appeal honda to fix the sun visors for me for free. just because i have to commute more for work everyday does not mean that this class action settlement right be taken away from me. ## vin passed ## honda civic si 2008 ## *tr

I noticed that 2 days ago it was raining inside my car i bought the car brand new off of the lot in 2008. the areas that are leaking/collecting water are where the side front airbag is located, along with the windshield, and side of the door. called the dealer they are telling me that my warranty has expired therefore i will need to replace the windshield and other components (roof, airbags, etc.) the car has never been in an accident or anything and now i am almost scared to drive it since they are telling me that it is the windshield i am petrified that it will implode soon. this seems extremely dangerous now i am unsure that if i get in an accident because of the water what if my airbag won't work upon impact? what happens if the windshield implodes while i am driving this issue is an accident waiting to happen. *tr

I had pulled off the freeway exit and proceeded to follow the cars ahead of me as the traffic signal light had turned green and did not necessitate me stopping, only slowing down to continue my left hand turn onto the surface street. suddenly without warning the sun visor flipped down without being touched and hit me in the forehead. the hard plastic edge hit me relatively quickly and knocked my prescription glasses off. there was a moment when i had my vision obscured and did not see the vehicle in front of me come to a rather sudden stop. i narrowly escaped hitting the back bumper of the vehicle ahead of me. fortunately i was traveling at a relatively low rate of speed, maybe 20 mph which probably would have caused minor damage, if any. however, people can be injured by whiplash even in low speed rear-end collisions. i have secured the visor with a bungee cord for the moment because the dealership wants to charge customers for this defective part plus labor and it is not cheap. i am afraid that the bungee cord might snap and cause a different sort of injury; however, there really is no way it will stay up against the interior cabin roof without it. i would like to add that i recall my 2002 honda civic had the exact same problem which occurred on both the driver's side and passenger's side at different times. also, at certain times of the day the sun is so blinding in california where i live that it is extremely hazardous to not be able to see the road and highway signs and lights without the assistance of a visor to block the glaring, bright light of the sun. in my estimation it is only a matter of time before this obvious defect causes a major fatality accident. *tr

Both sun visors on our honda civic would not work and then eventually the glue melted and they cracked and fell off. we have no way of securing our visors and have recently heard of a recall. i can't find my vin number within the limitations of the recall but i don't feel like i should have to pay for the repair.

The drivers side visor stuck and crack opened the plastic assembly by which it holds itself to the visors metal rod in the ceiling. after removal the thing that makes the visor swivel front and back is in fact the thing stuck(metal clip) and seems it may not be secured to the visor which at some point will brake the visor open as it happened , the passengers side visor is starting to get tight.
