SERVICE BRAKES

At 15000 miles my cars front brake pads and rotars are worn out, i had brought my car to honda for my 15000 mile service, where they are supposed to inspect brakes, yet no mention of brake issues were brought up. two weeks later my brakes were bad. i have been reading that many people have the same defect in there honda civics. i am hopeful that honda does a recall, to protect there name, because i was originally very happy to have a honda, now i am truly disappointed.

Since purchasing my 2010 honda civic new, i have had to replace the front brakes twice, first at 8,044 miles and just recently again at 15,770 miles. it is apparent this model has a problem with premature brake wear that honda has refused to address. *tr

Needed new brake pads at 18,645 miles during three year lease. warranty does not cover brake pads like other car makers. brake pads should not wear out so quick. i do not have 245 dollars for every 18 thousand miles or less to change the brakes every 2 years. i have owned a chevy and ford, bought brand new and needed new brake pads at 40k miles plus. *tr

I have a 2010 honda civic with 70,000 miles on it. i have already replace the brakes twice and at my oil change today the mechanic informed me that i would need to replace the brakes again. this will be the third time in 2 1/2 years that i have had to replace the brakes. each time it has been an out of pocket expense and honda has accepted no responsibility. *tr

With only 25,000 miles my brake pads need to be replaced. diagnosis came from loud screeching and whistling noise from front drivers-side tires. had no consistency with speed or braking - sometimes it whistled while going fast, sometimes while slow, sometimes while turning, sometimes while braking. i take public transportation to work and use this car very infrequently. i am disgusted by having to change brake pads at 25,000 miles - the majority of which is distance driving to family out of town. *tr

I drove my car onto a major highway, speed limit 70 mph. entering the highway my car accelerated from 70-79 by itself with my abs kicking in at the same time. not allowing me to brake. nearly causing a pile up, i exited immediately turning into a shopping center to park my car. with two passengers in the car with me, i proceeded into the lot, up a hill when i could feel my car accelerating by itself. with my passengers in disbelief, i lifted my right foot in the air so they could see, my car accelerated from 0-21 mph by itself, up a hill. scared out of my mind, i pulled my car over and parked it. i contacted honda, took my car in for service only to find out that they have never heard of this issue before and that this was their first time looking into such a possibility. a couple days later after they blamed this issue on my third party floor mats and advised me to take them out of my car, i did. i drove without the floor mat for two weeks, to make sure that it was my car acting up and not the mats. sure enough, my car acted up 2 more times in those two weeks. the first time it happened in traffic, in the middle of a bunch of stop lights. i would brake a little too early & attempt to coast in traffic to the car in front of me, i'd take my foot off the brake and the car would fully accelerate all by itself, causing me to slam my brakes. second occurrence, was when i was getting into my car, turned it on, but never put it into gear or even shut my door, the engine started revving with rpms up in the reds. multiple times. after taking my car in a second time, they were once again blaming these problems on my floor mats and that they weren't going to service or take care of anything at all, i am writing this complaint to further enforce that the 2010 honda civic needs to be recalled. the computers are defective and honda is doing absolutely nothing about it. *tr

Squealing noise comes and goes. months later it returned and lasted for longer intervals. took it to the dealer and was told the brakes needed replacing. the car is only 2 years old and less than 20,000 miles. all driving is done locally. have been a long-time owner of hondas and have never had this problem. it is not a usual issue. this is clearly a poorly made vehicle.

There was a lot of noise from the front end. i took to the dealer (mary sussman honda, abington, pa) and they told me i needed a front end brake job (pads, rotor polishing etc). two days ago (9/27/12) i had to take to have my rear bearing replaced and they told me i needed front brakes again. now mileage is 44,500, so only ~18,000 miles from last repair. i think two brake jobs at 40k miles is not right. *tr

On our new honda civic, our front brakes went out at 15,900 miles. of course, the service reps tried to blame the hard driving which was their assumption. they did replace them, but now at 29,000 miles, the front brakes are out again. clearly, honda is using either poor quality pads or the braking system is defective. we are taking it in again, but don't have a lot of confidence that they'll do the right thing and fix this.

I own a 2010 honda civic lx model. my car was serviced at 18,800 miles. i was told by the honda service department that my brakes had to be changed. i bought the car with 6,400 miles on it. i was shocked at the fact that the brakes needed to be changed at about 12,000 miles into driving the car. brakes are meant to last about 30,000 miles before being needed to be replaced. honda does not let the owners of these cars know that they have faulty brakes that they wear out quicker. nor are they willing to cover the costs of early brake changes. *tr

My 2010 honda civic dx with just over 36,000 miles on it has been going through brake pads every 10-15,000 miles. this is entirely too frequent, and the braking system is grinding and having issues now as well. this should not be happening on a vehicle that is this new, and the brakes should be lasting much longer. even a heavy breaker does not go through brake pads this frequently. there should be a recall by honda to see that the components that make up the braking system satisfactorily reflect the quality of craftsmanship and build that honda represents to its customers. the dot should pressure honda to take ownership and legal responsibility of these issues in light of their prevalence and the many complaints that have been filed by consumers already. *tr

Tl-the contact owns a 2010 honda civic. the contact stated that an abnormal grinding noise was heard from the brakes emitted while driving at various speeds. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and all of the brakes were replaced. the failure recurred a few months later. the vehicle was again taken to an independent mechanic where the brakes were replaced a second time. the manufacturer offered no assistance. the failure mileage was 7,600. kmj

I was driving my car like every day. but every time i press the brake i heard the sound (metallic). i went to the honda service center. after inspection they told me that the rotor was deteriorated and the front pad is damaged. i have to do the servicing and its a maintenance issue. so honda will not pay anything! i paid $289.26 from my pocket to do the rotor resurfacing and replace two front brake pad of my new honda civic. would you believe it? i have the receipt with me. after servicing i found the same problem again. i came back to the service center. this time the service adviser did the b*** s*** with me. i told him to drive my car. after driving my car he understood the problem was not solved. so he took my car to the service center again and after 10 minutes he came back to me. he told me that one of the screw was broken, they replaced it. i was shocked!!! i told them that they misguided me and it cost me around 300 bucks. but the service adviser refused to agree the truth...this is crazy. why do they replace my new civic brake front pad and also do the resurfacing of the rotor??...is this called service...i want my money back...first question is why do i have to do the resurfacing of rotor for only 18k mileage car?? and second question is..if it was done by mistake..then why they took my money!!this is all crazy. *js

At 18,000 miles the 2010 civic ex began to growl starting at 57mph. the right real wheel was also much hotter than the other three wheels after driving about 20 miles. the problem became worse each week, to the point i had to take the car to the dealer to be checked out. the dealer told me that the brake pads were stuck, as well as the brake slides, and that they adjusted them. they also told me that both back tires needed to be replaced because the cords were torn. after paying the dealer over $360 for tires and adjustments, i m finding that all four wheels randomly get very hot and smell hot, to the point others can smell it as well. while the dealer says they will investigate the problem with the honda rep, they say that there are no known problems with honda civic brakes. which seems odd when there is a class action lawsuit filed against honda for civic brake issues. i am writing this note to you so other honda civic owners can be made aware. i have owned 3 civics and 1 pilot and not had issues until purchasing this brand new 2010 civic ex in february of 2010. the car is not driven winters, and only driven on the highway. honda should be made to own up to this issue of sticking brake calipers, and correct it before someone gets seriously hurt. *tr

Car was making squeaking noise when driving brought car to dealership they state at 7400 miles fron brakes need to be replaced. this is rediculous. they say it is from aggressive driving this is nuts they will no cover replacement of pads and tell me it is from rear brakes not being adjusted.

On january 17, i had an oil change and vehicle inspection done. my brakes were at 6mm. on approximately february 15, i noticed a metal on metal sound coming from my car. on february 22 i took it in for service and was told my brakes needed to be replaced. it's a 2010 honda civic with 21,000 miles. i've owned it for 1 year and 2 months- so the brakes were no longer under warranty. seems as though honda corp needs to start looking in to this as this seems like its becoming quite a common occurance and it's excessive and highly unacceptable. i will never buy another honda- which is sad because honda is supposed to be the car to buy if you want to avoid repairs and breakdowns!!!!! (that's why i bought the honda- its history of reliability and stamina. well- that is quickly going out the window unless honda corp does something!)

With less than 12,000 miles on my car, my brake pads need to be replaced. i would have never expected my car to need new brakes this early, so i almost didn't take my car in when it was making a noise. i inpected my car to see if somethingw as stuck in the tires or something like that and am shocked to find out my brakes are already worn. after much research online, i see that this is a common issue for hondas.

I purchase the vehicle back jan of 2011 not even 6 months and 11,000 miles my brake pads were done. i took it to honda and was told my driving was the issue and not under warranty it was nothing but bull from honda. i replaced the brake pads and once again not even another 11,000 my brake pads are done again, this time i replace them myself and notice that both inside brake pads are worn out more then the outside. the pads are wearing out uneven thats not normal. honda should warranty pads and pistons there's something wrong with the breaking system.

I have a 2010 honda civic lx that i purchased brand new in aug 2010. there is an issue with the braking system. i was at about 15,000 miles when the brakes started to make a squealing sound. i contacted honda metro in jersey city, nj. they stated that it is the manner in which i drive my car. i disputed this with the individual over the phone bc to change the brakes at only 15k miles is completely unheard of. i ended up having my father go to have the issue checked anyway by them. they stated that my brakes were dirty and needed a cleaning. well soon after that my brakes started doing the same noise again. my guess is that they sprayed it with noise dampening spray. anyway, i have looked this up online and there are more people out there that are having the same issue. before someone dies can you please push them to fix this issue. they know about it and they do nothing!!!! thank you so much!

Purchased this civic in june 2010 and just put the second set of pads on this week. first set at 21,000. 19,000 miles and only 9 months of highway driving between replacement pads. uneven premature wear on the left inner pad indicating that the pads are remaining in contact with the rotor. also experiencing a burning smell. right side pads are almost new. personal mechanic told me that there was a problem with the caliper and recommended i take it to the dealer the first time. i did and it was normal wear. hard to believe that so many are experiencing the same problem. this is my 5th honda and i have never been as disappointed. there is a problem and honda needs to step up and fix the problem before something serious happens.

Honda civic lx 2010. few days ago i took my car to the dealer, and they told me the brake pads need to be replaced. that's very strange considering my car has only 20,100 miles. in addition, i am a person who take extremely good care of my car (oil change, tires, fluids, everything) and moreover if the vehicle is leased. unfortunately brakes were not covered under warranty, i have to paid for them. i have all the receipts from braman honda to prove what i'm saying. that's such a disappointment! every 3 months i have to take this car to the dealer with some new problems and pay between $150-350!! this is an obvious factory defect we (the consumers) shouldn't being paying for! do something!!

I heard a squealing metal on metal noise on my honda civic, and so took it to the dealer to get it serviced - the mechanic who helped me told me it would probably be under warranty. they discovered the front brakes needed replacing --- at 19,800 miles. honda refuses to cover them because they are under the wear and tear clause of the warranty --- but the brakes failed at 19,800 miles. unacceptable. when i contacted honda about the problem, they were cold hearted, the operator was clearly in india and didn't understand the severity of the issue - i will never own a honda again.

Today, my 2010 honda civic needed new front brakes at relatively low mileage - 26000 miles. at first i was shocked. now, i am deeply disturbed because today, i learned of a class action suit filed in the eastern district of california regarding brake issues in 2008, 2009 and 2010 honda civics. service rep at honda dealer where i purchased the car indicated that brakes have been a problem on honda accords in the past, so much so, that honda did come out with an improved brake pad for the accord. i understand that a class action suit had been initiated due to the accord problem as well. honda needs to address this problem with respect to the civic. honda is faced with a very serious, widespread safety problem on 2010 civics due to problematic brakes. let's hope they step up to the plate and do the right thing by their customers. our safety depends on their integrity.

Honda civic 2010 was purchased new. at the initial service appointment the vehicle had 9,000 miles. the front brakes were checked at the request of the owner. the rotors were found to be in very poor condition as were the pads. the rotors and pads were replaced. shortly after the second service appointment, the owner of the vehicle experienced the front brakes grabbing, and heard a loud noise coming from the front of the vehicle. the vehicle had 18,000 miles. this was in december, 2011. the vehicle was returned immediately to the dealer at which time the front pads were found to be in very poor condition, and were replaced.

I have a 2010 honda civic that i purchase in oct of 2009 that is going through brakes prematurely. there must be some sort of defect with the civic's braking system. on november 30th on 2010, i brought my car into scott robinson honda in torrance, ca because my breaks were squeaking. i was certain that after only 13 months and 12,457 miles there must be some sort of defect and that my warranty would cover the cost of any repairs. wrong. i was told by the service rep that i needed to replace my break pads and that the warranty would not cover the cost because the pads were worn evenly and it appeared to be normal wear and tear. i told him that i have had honda's for the past 20 years and have never had to replace break pads before 25,000-30,000 miles. he simply shook his head and gently insinuated that it may be due to my driving habits or the fact that i live on a hill. i paid them $196.59 to replace the break pads. on october 31st 2011, i brought my car into scott robinson honda again for a problem i had been having with the power door locks (luckily, this problem was covered under warranty). when the rep came out to update me on the status, he informed me that i had very little left to my break pads. i was shocked and of course looked at the man like he had four heads. i told him that it was only a year and less than 11,000 miles (10,993 miles to be exact) since i last had the pads replaced. once again, i was met with the sympathy of a rep shaking his head and a sometimes that happens comment. i have always sworn by honda vehicles, but if i have to lay out 200 bucks for new brake pads every 11,000 miles, i will not purchase another one in the future. i feel that this problem really needs to be investigated further and that honda should recall and make the necessary repairs.

Bought 2010 honda civc in the early part of 2010. at the end of the 2010i was told that i need to replace the brakes (over $ 200.00). it is now the end of 2011 and i am being told that i need to replace the brakes again. my car doesn't even have 35000 miles on it and is barely 2 years old. i called honda to see if the brakes i bought in 2010 were still under warranty. the representative informed me that they were not and i would have to purchase new brakes.

The brakes pull and make tremendous noise when stopping short and they pull and make noise when turning at normal speeds. they rumble, screech, and skid. it feels like something is sticking. the car is getting 17 to 20 miles to the gallon on surface streets and freeways without the air-conditioning. an independent mechanic says there is something wrong with the brake system and honda says all the cars do it, so it isn't a lemon. the honda civic i test drove did not do it. also, there was some bent metal underneath the car toward the center. the car had 11 miles on it when i bought it new and it could have been dropped when unloading it from the trailer. the salesman worked hard to sell me this particular car. it frightens me and it frightens my parents when we drive in it. i do not think it is safe and i feel there is a serious accident waiting to happen when the brakes go out.

My vehicle wasn't even a year old and i was told that i need new brakes. the mechanic showed me the brakes and the rotor. i was metal to metal. of course i had no choice but to purchase brakes for my new car. i also mention to the mechanic how my vehicle hesitated on occasion. nothing was ever found with that.

Tl-the contact owned a 2010 honda civic hybrid. the contact stated that the vehicle was parked on a slight incline for a few moments when she noticed that the vehicle began to roll backward. the vehicle then began to roll forward until crashing into a ravine. a police report was filed and the vehicle was towed to a towing yard. the failure was not diagnosed, but the vehicle was classified as destroyed. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was unknown. the vin was unavailable. sm.

Tech at honda service dealer found front break-pad wear and recommended replacement ($325 + tax). i think it is premature for a 16k mileage car.

I purchased my brand new honda civic in 3/2010 (it only had 11 miles). about 7-8 months later, i noticed the civic was making wierd braking noises. it would come and go. but in 2/2011 (less than a year after my purchase) i was scared to drive my car because it was not braking. i almost rear ended someone and could have caused an accident. i took the car into a honda dealership to inspect my brakes as it was getting worse and i did not feel safe driving it. i was told i need to replace both front brake pads and my left rotor. the car had less than 9000 miles on it!!! i paid $400 because there was no warranty on the brakes!! i was told it was because of my driving. 7 months later (9/2011) the brake is at it again. this time, there was no sqeaking sounds to warn me, the car suddenly sounded like it was metal rubbing on metal and my car wouldn't brake. again, i almost got into an accident. this is not right! i've owned several vehicles prior and never had any break issues. now i'm scared to drive my car. how am i going to get to work? i'm scared to even drive it to the dealership. plus, they're going to tell me the same thing and charge me another $400 when it's clearly not my doing but a defective problem with the car. please do something.

Premature wearout of front braking pads and discs on 2010 honda civic with 22,000 miles. the car was primarily driven highway miles and is only 12 months old just coming out of it's first winter. the right front had a fully worn out pad and a half worn out pad along with heat distress on the rf rotor indicating caliper sticking and pad not retracting from rotor. left front pads had significantly uneven wear on the same pad from front to back again indicating something in the braking system is sticking. took the car to a honda dealer where they could only repeat the word brake pads are not covered under warranty. i explained to them that brake pads are not covered under warranty if they are functioning properly and wear out. if they do not function properly and stick, over heat and do not retract in the first year, something is significantly wrong in the design. gm and ford have been designing very good brake systems that last 40k 50k or more miles. with the 2010 honda civic, because of significant uneven pad wear, a brake job has to be performed at every third old change. this is a defective design that involves safety and these cars should be recalled and given a fix.
