| The clutch assembly of the 2004 honda rebel cmx250c motorcycles were defective from assembly at the factory. honda dealerships have a (secret) service bulletin to refer to that describes the following: the clutch assembly is likely to fail under 1000 miles. due to failing of this component, it poses a hazard while traveling down an interstate, since the motorcycles ceases to accelerate and basically is unable to provide power (torque) to the rear wheels. i have replaced the friction discs and metal discs along with the springs to increase the clutch stack height and therefore avoid slipping and malfunctioning of the clutch. i do have all of the old parts that i replaced available. honda refuses to pay for the faulty clutches and has yet to take responsibility that the honda rebel motorcycles built for the year 2004 have faulty clutches. *jb | |||

| Bike will not shift properly, upshifting isn't the problem as much as trying to get the bike into neutral or first gear is near impossible. makes road driving impossible. bought the bike used from a dealer, hasn't worked properly from day one. replaced clutch at 5,000 miles, thinking this was the problem just to find out, improper shifting mechanism was the cause. have bought new springs for the shifting mechanism, hopefully this fixes the problem, as to it seems the only alternative next to just scrapping a poorly designed bike. reading similar cases online it is under my best assumption that improper installation of this spring has led to poor operation. in my research of online service manuals, it has been confirmed that the spring not installed to specs. not so much backwards as upside down. bike does not work. *tr | |||

| Ever since i purchased the motorcycle, a 2004 honda rebel, there were a few problems with the shifting characteristics. first, while downshifting, excess force was sometimes required to shift to the next lower gear. second, after pulling in the clutch lever, the motorcyle seemed to want to creep foward. third, diffuculty shifting to neutral while stopped. every one i asked said that this was normal for this particular bike. now, i find this hard to believe. it has been just slightly over one year and about 8000 miles since i purchased this motorcycle, and the clutch started to show signs of slipping. i did not have the time or the money to have the dealer replace the clutch, now that the motorcyle has supassed the one year warranty. after replacing the clutch with genuine honda parts, the clutch shifts smoother than it ever did. the old parts were discarder, since i did not want oily, useless parts in my home. this failure can not be attributed to the lack of maintainance, because the motorcycle has been professionaly, per maintainance contract with selling dealer. | |||

| Clutch premature wear problem with honda rebel 2004 motorcycle!.have a 2004 rebel with 1600 miles. i did the oil change at 600 miles and running once or twice in the whole winter, around 10 miles or less to recharge the battery. *ak today, i took my rebel out for a ride since it's 70 degree plus, but i notice the problem right away. when i shift into 1st gear, take my hand off the clutch without turn up the throttle, the rebel still running. something isn't right, before when i shifted into first gear, did not crank up the throttle and release, the engine will shut off immediately. however when i shift to 2nd, 3rd, 4th, the rebel is running very slow, the engine noise is louder and it cannot run over 30 mph, looks like the clutch is getting loose or something. i try to adjust the clutch but the problem still existed. | |||

| I purchased a new 2004 honda rebel in march of 2004. i currently have 1700 miles on the bike. ever since the first 700 miles or so, i have noticed some issues with the clutch. the problems i have are, hard to find neutral, miss shifts between 1st and 2nd and 2nd to 3rd, clutch slippage at speeds of 45mph on and off, and having the bike try to move forward while in 1st with the clutch lever pulled in. i had the dealer look at it, and they adjusted the clutch cable. they were not aware of any issues with the 2004 bikes having to do with the clutch. i asked if they could call honda to check on this issue, and was told not unless your clutch fails the clutch adjustment did not change anything. i have two concerns 1. i am having the same symptoms as other owners of a 2004 rebel that have had their clutches fail this is documented at a rebel online message forum called http://www.surfmaine.com/rebel forum/ a search of the board with the values 2004 clutch , selecting with all terms selection will display the messages. 2. i live in the northeast, have put the bike away for the winter. i will put it back on the road in the spring, but at that point, my 1 year warranty will have expired and will not be covered if/when my clutch fails. i believe that honda should issue a recall of the 2004 rebel to inspect and replace the clutch assembly, based on the number of reports that i have read on the clutch failure problem, and the problems i am having with early clutch failure symptoms thank you. *ak | |||

| 2004 honda rebel cmx250 - purchased a new honda rebel on 10/27/04 after approximately 250 miles i noticed that the clutch slipped when trying to accelerate in higher gears. the problem worsened and was started slipping even more. i took it in to the local honda dealer with approximately 320 miles on the motorcycle and they tried to make an adjustment but i was told a short while later that a new clutch was needed. they told me it will take a week to get the parts to repair. i inquired as to how long a clutch usually last and they told me that it should be between 10,000 and 12,000 miles. the motorcycle is currently in the shop awaiting parts.*ak | |||

| This is a complaint about a 2004 honda rebel 250cc motorcycle (cmx250c4). with just a little over 1000 miles the clutch went. i have owned motorcycles with thousands of miles on them and never have i had a clutch go. after the clutch went bad i discovered a web site that is dedicated to the rebel and found the 2004 rebel is prone to clutches going bad. i took the motorcycle to the dealer and they said they weren't aware of problems with the 2004 rebel but they said they would talk to the honda rep and see if honda would cover the repair. the bike has been at dealer for a few weeks and they are waiting for parts but they said honda will pay for the repair. i'm hoping they pick up the tab for other 2004 rebel owners who's clutches have failed too. *jb | |||

| Clutch problems in 2004 honda rebel 250 motorcycles. in march 2004, i bought a brand new 2004 honda rebel motorcycle. since day one i had clutch problems including difficulty of changing gears, especially from 1st to 2nd, and difficulty finding neural. these problems are worsened when the engine is hotter after a continuous riding of about 20-30 minutes. i am a member of an online honda rebel motorcycle forum, and this problem has also been reported by a number of other owners as well from the forum. this can be confirmed by following this link: http://www.surfmaine.com/rebelforum/viewtopic.php?t=2647 although changing gear is not impossible on this motorcycle, i have had close calls at a number of occasions by not being able to change from 1st to 2nd gear while trying to accelerate from a stop. the engine cannot also be reliably put to neutral when the engine is hot. a number of the members from the above mentioned forum with mechanical experience took a look at the clutch and concluded that a part (judder spring) was potentially installed wrongly. at my first service appointment (600 mile service), i told about this problem to my honda dealer. although they tried to adjust the clutch cable, this did not solve the problem, and the dealer did not acknowledge any possible problems with the clutch. i also learned that there was a service bulletin put out to honda dealers about this problem, but most dealers will not confirm this. i tried to talk to my dealer about the problem, but they will not acknowledge the problem, and since it is hard to recognize the problem unless someone rides the motorcycle for about 20-30 minutes, i cannot demonstrate them the exact problem i believe this is an important safety concern as most owners of this motorcycle are beginners. they may not immediately recognize the problem and the clutch failure might lead to accidents i believe other owners of this motorcycle have also reported this problem to nhtsa. *nm | |||

| I was driving my 2004 honda rebel down the highway when out of nowhere i was unable to accelerate. it would only go about 15 mph and i knew i had the dreaded 2004 clutch problem. i babied it to the nearest honda motorsport dealer and it currently sits in their service area. on the way there i was almost hit numerous times by other cars not to mention almost falling when the incident first occurred. they told me that i will probably need a new clutch. i replied my bike only has 5000 miles! how could i need a new clutch already? he said he wasn't sure and would let me know once they were sure what was wrong with it. i almost got hit by a few cars on the way to the dealer and i am hoping that this isn't going to cost me anything. *tr | |||
