The srs light came on in my 2004 honda crv. i visited the local honda dealer. dealer advised srs light came on due to faulty opds(occupant position detection system) sensor. this sensor will turn off/on passenger airbag. this item is not covered outside the 3yr/36000 mi warranty. however, many 2002-2004 honda crv's were given a warranty extension for this problem. the extension covered up to 150,000 miles or 10 years. honda checked my vin against their database and advised my vehicle was not affected. my vehicle has approx. 51,500 miles and will be 4 yrs old in october. the dealer advised if i desired the repair, it would be at my expense. i chose not to have the vehicle repaired at this time. i have searched the internet and have found other owners with the same complaints with this opds sensor. this opds system is not limited to the crv line; it is also found on many other honda vehicles. there are other years and makes which were given the warranty extension. i believe there is a problem with the opds system, and all equipped vehicles should be given the warranty extension. this system is installed as a safety feature and should not be subjected to the same warranty as the rest of the vehicle. *tr

I own a honda crv 04. i have taken in my car to the dealership four times to get the srs light fixed on my car. the light kept coming on indicating that the airbags were not working. two of the times i was provided a rental car because the car had to be left over night or longer. the other two times it was fixed in a day, but the light came back on after a week after repair. each time the car was taken in, the dealership had to restart the computer, which lead to some problems with the automatic windows and the lighter not working. have called honda and reported these problems, but nothing was done. these problems with the srs light have been going on since we purchased the car in jan. 04.*ak

2004 honda crv. consumer writes in regards to recall notices concerning low beam headlight circuit and airbag inflator. *tgw the consumer scheduled an appointment for the two recalls notices he received in the mail. however, when he arrived at the dealer, he was informed the vehicle was no longer under warranty and they could not perform the work needed at no charge. the dealer stated honda would not absorb the cost for the air bag recall, but they would instead. the air bag recall, was performed but the headlights campaign was not. the consumer believed the reason for honda not taking responsibility for the recalls, was because the vehicle had been in a previous accident and was deemed totaled, because the air bags had deployed. the consumer stated he repaired the vehicle with oem honda parts and repaired it back to oem specifications.

AIR BAGS - SIDE/WINDOW

On august 13, 2009 my husband was involved in an automobile accident in which he was hit in the drivers side door. the car was totaled. the two front airbags deployed but the driver's side airbag did not. his injuries were not life threatening but he still suffers with pain from the bruises and abrasions plus a small hairline fracture of a lower vertebra. perhaps some of these injuries could have been avoided or lessened had the side airbag deployed. we called our honda dealer and he referred us to honda company. i talked with a christine at honda and explained what had happened and her reply was that honda does not investigate accidents. i told her that i would be reporting the problem to the nhtsa and would like it documented that i had also reported it to honda. she gave me a case # n012009-0800615081700615. i will be contacting honda again as i was not satisfied with the response i received from them. i am reporting the problem to you in hopes that if this is a common problem with the side airbags something may be done about it. thank you. *tr
