The gas overflows when filling the tank. it literally fountains out of the tank. the gas runs down the side of the car onto the tires and brakes. i am very concerned about the risk of fire when that gas hits hot brakes. i see several other complaints about the same problem on various websites, including honda's site. i bought the car new in 2004. i had no problem for a year. then suddenly the gas overflowed one day when filling the tank. i took the vehicle to the dealership immediately. they couldn't replicate the problem and said there was nothing they could do. over the next four or five years the gas overflowed sporadically, probably 3 or 4 times over five years. i almost always use marathon gas. i don't overfill the tank. when the pump clicks off, i typically wait a second, and then remove the nozzle. i will put the nozzle back on the pump and then turn to put the gas cap on, and sporadically, i find the gas literally fountaining out of the tank. in june or july 2009, it happened again on a very hot day and i was extremely concerned. i drove immediately to the dealership again and this time they informed me that a valve, integral to the gas tank, had gone bad and that the entire tank would have to be replaced. that was done. all was fine for the next 20 months. but just last week, the same problem happened again. i am very, very concerned about a possible fireball happening because the gasoline fountains out of the tank, runs down the side of the car, hitting the tires and brakes, and then pools onto the ground. i've had probably a half liter of gasoline fountain out like that. please look at the other complaints that have been filed. this is truly a safety hazard. i am beginning to think it would be safer for me to have my child outside of the car when refueling this vehicle. it's truly scary when it happens. thank you very much for looking into this problem. i am waiting for honda's resolution and repair now.

Bought a 2004 honda crv. warning light indicated problem with gas cap but dealer couldn't specify cause. can't add any gas after it initially stops, regardless of how full tank is, otherwise spillage occurs. *tr

About 2 weeks ago my honda cr-v 2004 stalled in a car wash and wouldn't start. after about 20 minutes i was able to get it started. since then my cr-v has had trouble starting. i've also noticed my heater not working as effectively and just recently the car started to over heat. i took it to the mechanic immediately. after a day they said i had gotten water in my gas tank and a water bubble in my coolant system. they flushed everything out, dried it and replaced my coolant. so far my car seems to be running smoothly again. *nm

I just bought my honda crv on 09/09/04, in third day i found that the washer container or bottle leak the liquid in the drainer neck, because the connection of the neck and the bottle has no washer rubber to stop the liquid from leaking. i call for repair but excuse for waiting the parts, it seems this is unreasonable.*ak

Under fuel tank cap, there is a vent hole and a plastic extension (scoop shape). this plastic is pointing upward and vent hole is at the lowest point. in rain or during car washing water gets on the scoop through the fule door (fuel door is not water tight) and water enters into the fuel tank through the vent hole. and water gets into the engine cylinder.*ak

Consumer stated that vehicle caught on fire after the first oil change. after oil change consumer pulled out into the driveway and vehicle started to smoke. then, he pulled to the side of the road, and cut the vehicle off. by this time it was just a lot of smoke, but no fire. honda dealer repaired the vehicle. consumer states that this happened on 3/4/04, when the mileage on the vehicle was at 5158. *ak *nm

Purchased 2004 honda crv ex 8/04. upon filling the gas tank, gas spurts out while pulling out the nozzle from the tank. i've had gas land on my legs and quite a puddle on the ground. talked with services advisors at honda twice about it and was told they've never heard of such a thing -- try holding the nozzle in for 3 seconds after filling -- should take care of the problem -- it didn't! this problem occurs every time you fill up. the only time it doesn't is when you don't put the nozzle all the way into the filling neck. seems a vacuum is made when you do and upon retracting the nozzle it releases and gas spurts out. i reported this again to a service advisor at honda 8/05 and i've been requested to bring the vehicle in on 8/19/05 to take a look at it. i noticed one other complaint about this issue on your website. whatever happened to their concern? *jb

Have a 2004 crv. started overflowing when filling up with gas 3 months after purchase. have been working with one, then another dealership for 8 months with no resolution other than my time wasted and them trying to build one car over one piece at a time. american honda was notified at the beginning & has done nothing to resolved the problem. (extreme incompetence there) i have run into other people at gas stations with the same problem. want to know how many more are out there that are not being addressed by honda or the nhtsa. this is a safety hazard. i don't know why it will take someone's car on fire at a gas station before anyone will do something about this.

During fueling of vehicle, 1 to 2 seconds after pump automatically stops, fuel spills out of filler tube. even upon removing gas pump handle, fuel can be seen flowing out of filler tube for several seconds, down the side of the car and onto the ground. estimate 4 to 8 ounces total. potential fire and environmental hazard. occurs about 50% of the time the car is fueled, and has occured at different gas stations. *ak

Just purchased a honda cr-v (new). when the gas tank is filled up at the pump there is gas spillage following the automatic shutoff of the pump. the amount is approx. 2 to 4 oz of fuel. this could cause a fire and is also an air pollution source. this spillage occurs every time i fill up the tank. this must be corrected. is there currently a recall??? am i the only one with this problem??? will this get fixed??? who should i contact next??? *ak

On august 20th, 2007 at 7:30 am while i was driving my 16 year old son to school my 2004 honda crv began to speed uncontrollably. according to the dealership there was a throttle cable malfunction that led to the cars uncontrollable speeds of up to 80 miles an hour. this was the most horrific experience i have ever endured. while on the freeway i was forced to weave in and out of cars all while having both feet on the brake. after deciding to apply the hand brake we decided to get off the freeway. we ran one stop sign and before coming to a dead end street thankfully we made an abrupt stop after being forced to just turn off the car. this was after having my son call a friend for help and advice. my son and i were completely shocked that nothing worse came of this. thank god that no one was harmed in this incident. the dealership says that it was a malfunction that was not caused by the operator and there was no way to detect that this was going to happen. the dealership has agreed to pick up all cost related to the malfunction but truthfully i am not looking to get back in that car. we are currently trying to negotiate a trade-in. thank god nothing happened to my son, me, or anyone else.

On may 15, i took my 2004 honda crv to the dealership for its first oil change. my daughter picked up the car 2 hours later and drove 1-2 miles when passerages in nearby cars began blowing their horns and telling her to get out of the car because it was on fire. men in the car behind called the fire dept. and being mechanics checked the oil. it was bone dry. fire dept. called for sand to be laid. the car was towed to the honda dealership where they had cleaned it up by the time i got to the dealership. they wanted me to get in the car and feel safe about my new car which had 3800 miles. their answer to why this happened was that they had left the old oil gasket on and had put the new one on top. it had blown oil out the tailpipe. i left the car there for 6 weeks while i sought legal help, had independent mechanics check it out, sent oil samples and filter to independent labs for testing. during this time i contacted honda coporation, local tv stations, and made numerous phone calls to the dealership. i requested a new car and to have the service plan which i had purchased transferred to another dealership. two weeks ago, the dealership did agree to issue me a 72 months/100,000 mile warranty and they did refund my service plan so that i may purchase it from another dealership. american honda corporation never took any ownership for the situation. they agreed with the dealership. *ak
