SEAT BELTS

There is a problem with my seat belts. the local dealership says they are working as designed. i find it hard to believe that honda would agree seat belts that do not recoil while they are on you driving and seat belts that keep you from breathing are designed that way. the dealership said they cannot do anything. they are how they are. the vehicle was purchased new in january 2004. it has never been in an accident. the front seat bets intermittently do not recoil while driving and almost always after releasing them to exit the vehicle. they are progressively getting worse especially while driving. the concern is if there is an accident they might not engage. sometimes i cannot get them to engage by manually pulling on them while in the car. the rear seat belts have always been extremely touchy. not having any kids and rarely having back seat passengers this problem wasn't noticed. recently i rode in the back seat and even slightly breathing would make the belts re-track to the point you can not even breathe out. again the local dealership said there is nothing wrong with them. wrote to honda 9/28/2012 requesting they replace the seat belts and currently waiting for a response. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2004 honda cr-v. while parked, the contact noticed that the seat belt light illuminated on the instrument panel. after reviewing the manual, the contact learned that the warning light indicated a failure with the front passenger side seat belt. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer for a diagnostic test. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 80,000.

I own a 2004 honda crv and have had problems with the seat belts for over 20,000 miles. both front seat belts lock when they should not and will not retract until they have been unfasted and pulled all the way out and re-inserted into the buckle. at which point it happens again, and again. i have brought the car to the dealership at least 4 times with the same complaint and all they do is lubricate the belts and say they cannot re-produce the problem. i also called american honda company to file a complaint, and they will not do anything if the dealership can't re-produce the problem. which is bull, as i brought the service writer out and showed him exactly what happens. now the srs light is on the dash indicating there is a problem with either the seat belt tensioners and/or air bags. i am hoping when i bring it in again this week they will actually replace the seat belts. not only is there supposed to be a lifetime warranty on the seat belts, but it is a very obvious safety issue that neither american honda or the dealership is willing to address unless there is not a proven problem with the tensioners, the dealer gets stuck paying the labor to fix the problem. how many people have to get hurt before the srs light is lit, indicating seat belt tensioner failure, before the problem is addressed? (it took over 20k miles before my srs light came on to indicate the problem i knew existed)

Srs light illuminated on 2004 crv. the the switch in the left front seat buckle was found to have failed. the airbag system is inoperative due to failed switch. buckle must be replaced. warranty reads a seatbelt that fails to function properly is covered for the useful life of the vehicle. honda will not accept warranty claim, since it is an srs system failure.

I drive a 2004 honda cr-v which appears to have automatic locking retractors on the seat belts. i have two young children and the biggest, now 4 1/2, has just moved into a booster seat. because the seat belts retract automatically, getting tighter and tighter with every movement, my child already got terrified when she was pinned back in her seat by the seat belt, with her chest smashed into her booster seat. while driving, there was nothing i could do to assist her. also, although i purchased an excellent car seat, the automatic retraction of the seatbelt means that each time i need to get my child in and out of the seat, i must first unthread and then rethread the seatbelt through the seat's guides, creating ample opportunity to do so incorrectly. finally, and most importantly, b/c of the automatic retraction of the seatbelt, i am quite concerned about the risk of strangulation, such as what happened to a local child, deandre harris (see washington post story on december 17, 2008). deandre, whose mother drove a honda cr-v, died shortly after his accident, in which he could not free himself from the tightened honda cr-v seatbelt. please let me know if honda currently offers replacement of its automatic locking retractors with emergency locking retractors or switchable retractors to ensure that children riding in hondas do not risk strangulation. also, please advise me what your office is doing to investigate and address this, apparently, extremely serious problem. thank you. *tr

I own a 2004 honda cr-v and i am in need of a seat belt extender for a passenger with a disability. i've been informed by my local dealership that honda does not make an extender for the cr-v as it's against the law. my passenger cannot secure the seat belt without an extender and this therefore could be/is a major life or death safety issue. other manufacturers provide them (chrysler, ford, gm). is honda correct or in violation of any federal requirement to provide one free of cost as other vehicle manufacturers do? thank you.
