1998 honda crv, with about 100,000 milage, engine light came on. repaired the distributor sensor. took it back four more times and the engine light continue to stay on. a week later, took it in to deale for a diagnostic, valve #3 & 4, needed to be replaced, they recommended a new cylinder head. notified honda manufacturer and they decided to pay half of the cost. i have always taken good care of my car, and have the invoices to proof it. i think honda knows there is a manufacturing problem and should be responsible for the complete repair cost. i am still paying on my car and this is a financial burden for me and my family.*ak

I have a 1998 honda shadow aero (vt1100-c3) vin #1hfsc3903wa004301 that has developed an oil guide plug leak. this leak results in oil being pumped out of the lower portion of the engine directly in front of the rear tire while riding the motorcycle. it has been a proven inherent design problem in model years 1998 through 2001. honda has issued a warning and the repair instructions in their september 1999 issue of the honda wrench publication. the dealerships that i have contacted do not claim knowledge of this problem or the article from honda. my understanding is honda still refuses to issue a recall for this defect. i stay in contact with a large group of people who own this same style motorcycle via the internet and this problem is widespread. i am going to have this problem repaired at my own expense as i do not consider the motorcycle safe to operate in it's current condition. i would like to go on record and file a formal complaint and will encourage fellow aero owners who have experienced this problem to do the same. i will keep a file with my repair information in the event honda comes forward and acknowledges this flaw in their design and issues a recall. *jb

98 honda civic dx transmission slippage my car has been having this transmission slippage problem intermittently for about 4 years. it recently started doing it for about 2 weeks straight so i tried to go online and find out if there was some type of solution. i found other complaints about transmission problems in honda accords/civics/odyssey's and even acuras. i called honda corp. and their only response was you're not on the recall list so you'll have to go to the dealer and get it repaired. i did that and they told me i needed to get a refurbished trans at 5k a pop! that's a rip off. so i researched it some more and found out on about.com that you can basically just drain the transmission fluid and replace it with honda atp fluid and replace a piece called the solenoid assembly and a washer. if this is the case why isn't honda doing a general recall and have everyone pay a certain price or have everyone with certain vin numbers come in and have their trans checked out. this is a rip off through honda corp. they're trying to make money and so are the dealerships! *nm

Going off the honda brand name, we purchased a 1998 honda accord in november of 2004. at the time, the vehicle had 101,000 miles on it. less than a week after purchasing the vehicle, my wife noticed that it hesitated and then shifted hard into second gear. she aslo noticed that there was a severe hesitation when accelerating after slowing down for a turn or when trying to merge into traffic. this causes an unsafe condition of a vehicle trying to get into the flow of traffic and being unable to accelerate; she's almost been hit several times. we've been on the phone with honda, and been told that they won't pay for anything. i don't have an estimate yet, but, after doing some research, this problem seems to cost anywhere from $2000-4000 to fix. if honda continues to refuse to replace what is obviously a defective component, i've resolved to do two things: contact a lawyer and never waste my money on one of their vehicles again.

I have had trouble with my transmission slipping and high revving rpms on my 1998 honda accord coupe v6 ex. i have researched this on the internet and found that literally thousands of people are having the same problem. i feel that this is manufacturers defect that should be recalled. now i will have to spend close to $6000 for a new transmission that is obviously the manufacturers problem. thank you for your time. *jb

Regarding my 1998 honda passport - stop and go traffic. put foot on brake and car suddenly accelerated. put both feet on brake, engine sounded like it had been kicked into passing gear. brakes were squealing. rear ended vehicle in front of me. vehicle i hit jumped forward and my passport continued to rev and lurch forward striking the vehicle again. after the 2nd strike the engine kicked back down. i'm seeing similar reports regarding the passport and it's sister/brother the rodeo. this is dangerous. thankfully no one was injured this time. this car can't be trusted. *ak
