Defect SummaryOn certain vehicles originally sold in or currently registered in the states of connecticut, delaware, illinois, indiana, iowa, kentucky, maine, maryland, massachusetts, michigan, minnesota, missouri, new hampshire, new jersey, new york, ohio, pennsylvania, rhode island, vermont, virginia, west virginia , wisconsin and the district of columbia. the wire harness for the occupant detection system (ods) and the occupant position detection system (opds) is routed underneath the carpet on the driver's side floorboard. in areas where road salt is used, salt from the snow on the driver's shoes will melt and may penetrate the carpet and leak into the wire harness. if the harness is exposed to salt brine, corrosion may occur and the wire may break causing the srs indicator light to illuminate. a failure of the ods and opds may not detect the presence of a child seat or an out-of-position passenger and deployment of both the front seat passenger's frontal and side air bags will not be suppressed.
Consequence SummaryIn the event of a crash, a deploying front passenger air bag or front passenger's side air bag will increase the risk of injury to small or out-of-position occupants.
Corrective SummaryDealers will inspect and replace the wire harness. the recall began on december 12, 2007. owners may contact honda at 800-999-1009.

On above date approx 12:45 pm i rear ended a stopped mv at approx 35-40mph. my driver side airbag did not deploy resulting in severe injury. spinal surgery to follow. i have repeatedly called honda, and they decline meeting my forensic engineer to examine the vehicle as they know it is defective. i have hired a forensic engineer who is available to be at usa intercargo in new jersey on oct 7 2011. it is imperative that an employee of honda witness the examination.

My sister and i were sitting in stopped traffic on a california freeway in her 2008 honda fit when we were rear ended by another driver at about 50 mph. we both were wearing seatbelts. he struck us directly behind the passenger, and our vehicle then struck the car in front of us and the concrete median barrier to the left. he struck us with sufficient force that our car was a complete loss and we had to be removed from the vehicle with the jaws of life. none of the car's airbags deployed. though i was wearing a seatbelt and shoulder harness, i struck the dash with my head and was knocked unconscious. the seatbelt did not restrain me. i have seen at least three other similar incidents online that involved a rear end collision with a honda fit. please investigate this dangerous vehicle before someone is killed. *tr

I was driving about 45 mph on a highway. i hit the car in front of me from behind. the speed of my car at the moment of the accident was about 45 mph as well. my front part was totally smashed, the both of the seat belts got pull out all the way and broke. the car in front of me also had completely smashed rear part of the car. my car was not drivable condition that was towed. the air bags never deployed. i do have neck, back and chest injury and my passenger has the same injury as mind plus knee injury by hitting his knee strongly on a dash. my car is 2008 honda fit, pretty brand new car. it is very scary that the air bags did not deploy. *tr

I own a 2008 honda fit. on 1-7-2010, while traveling at approximately 45 -50 mph, the vehicle in front of mine began to brake. my brakes were applied; however, the vehicle did not seem to be slowing. the brakes were then depressed all the way to the floor, however, the vehicle continued forward until it crashed into the vehicle in front of mine. the abs did not engage during this incident. the air bag did not deploy. the seat belt broke. the insurance company was informed of the above noted failures. the vehicle was repaired, however, no brake problems were detected. in late february, 2010, i got my vehicle back from the repair shop. on 3-4-2010, i was traveling at approximately 45 mph when a vehicle pulled out in front of me causing me to slam the brakes as hard as i could. again, the abs system did not engage and my vehicle continued forward. the only reason i did not crash into the vehicle in front of me is because it cleared my path before impact. during this incident, my seat belt did not grab me. i took my vehicle to the honda dealership the next day, explained the incident, and asked that the brake system and seat belt be checked out again thoroughly. the honda service writer told me that they could find nothing wrong with the brakes or the seat belt. due to my field of employment, i have had extensive training in emergency vehicle operation. i know how the abs system operates and how a vehicle should respond when the brakes are applied in the manner described above.

I bought honda fit, 2008 model a month ago. the traffic stopped and we stopped, but the vehicle in the rear did not stop and smashed the fit from the rear, my vehicle was in the middle, struck by a jeep in the rear and was pushed against a pick up truck in the front. the fit was a total loss with engine pushed back, and bumper and front end smashed. both front air bag failed to deploy even when the vehicle was a total loss with front smashed in. *tr
