My 2010 honda insight failed its safety inspection due to excessive wear on both front tires at approximately 17750 miles. the wear was not in the tread depth but in the rubber between the tread and the sidewall of the tire. the repair shop showed me the spots where the rubber was already down to the second layer. they encouraged me to take the car back to the dealer who only checked for tread depth and told me the tires were fine. i went back to the original repair shop and replaced the two tires and had a front end alignment done. the results of the alignment indicated that while both wheels were within spec, they were both at the outer edges meaning my wheels were facing like this /. i took the tires and the alignment report to the dealer and have heard nothing since but i receive a discount coupon for wheel alignment every month from honda. i would have thought that i had a one of a kind problem but the repair shop has told me that they have found and corrected the same problem on multiple insights in the past 5 months.
