Dt: the caller said the passenger side sliding door opens without warning. it happens when driving. the indicator light comes on , and the alarm goes off. the caller says the door does not open all the way. had it to the dealer 10 times for this problem. dealer said it was dirty connections and did not do anything to fix it. manufacturer will offer no help for free. also, the caller received a recall letter concerning gas recirculation valve ( egr valve). the manufacturer will not approve the recall work. also wanted to take vehicle to the dealer. *ak the rotors were resurfaced, the seat reclined when the consumer exited the vehicle. *jb

Middle row seats can be configured as bench seats or captains chairs. in the bench seat configuration, the passenger is not safely restrained from a side or corner impact. the passenger can slip out of the seat belt on impact, risking injury or death. i compensated for this when my son was in a booster seat by strapping the booster seat to the seat but now that he is no longer in a booster seat he is not restrined by the seatbelt. putting him in the seats in the captains chair configuration puts him at risk since he would then be next to the door and point of impact. ford deals with this by requiring you to latch the seatbelt on the side facing the door, which restrains the passenger securely. have any injuries been reported as a result of this defect with the honda minivan?*ak

Right front passenger turned in right front seat to adjust rear air conditioning controls. in doing this, pressure was put on the seat back and the seat back snapped and broke loose from the seat bottom on the left hand side. the seat was no longer safe to sit in because the seat back was not secured to the seat bottom on the left hand side. when taken to the dealership, they said that the inner adjuster stud was broken. american honda agreed to pay for the part out of warranty ($100) but the dealership did not want to help with any of the labor at first. in talking to american honda, they said labor had to be handled with the dealership and the dealership finally agreed to cover $60 of the $160 labor charge. the cost is one thing, but more importantly, i am concerned about the safety of this part for other people. i feel there could be a serious safety issue here and that this part should not have failed. with the small amount of pressure applied to the seat back to cause it to break, the seat would have surely failed in an accident (much greater force), possibly causing serious injury to anyone sitting in the seat. i am concerned that the part that failed was defective and do not want someone else to find out as a result of an accident that possibly injures someone. we have not had the part repaired, but need to do so this week. i will have the dealership save the part for me in case you need it for future reference. back to the cost of repair, i feel that due to the nature of the failure and possible safety issues that honda should pay for the entire repair. american honda did agree to pay for the part, obviously because they felt that the part should ot have failed, but the dealership is not willing to install it at no charge. i will take the issue up with them again. respectfully submitted, russell chason *ak

The seat-back of the driver seat will start tilting back automacticly. it happened all when the key is in the off position. when this happened, the driver seat presses down on to the passanger's thigh/knee who seats behind the driver. it won't stop until i pull the adjustment switch. when it happened, my 3 years old daughter sat on her car set, behind the driver seat was crying, and my 8 years old son was screaming. my daugther had bruises on her thigh which was caused by this. *ak
