Transmission slipping between 2nd and 3rd gear with abrupt change at 3rd gear. this is a sign of premature transmission wear that we have been fortunate not to have yet experienced that many owners of this type of vehicle have had. we are the original owners of the vehicle and it has been carefully maintained with all of the required maintenance items. we are surprised that this problem has not been the subject of a recall.

Started getting check engine light. went to dealer and the diagnostic came with a transmission problem. honda has a recall on the transmission issue as it seems like a known problem but they refuse to accept the fact that my vehicle would be part of the recall and have refused any financial assistance. the cost is approximately $5328.

When pulling into a packing space, the car had a sudden unintended acceleration. the car then leap over curb and bushes and hit the wall at front. front bumper damaged and airbags were deployed.

I was driving my van. it showed no problems at all but the engine light appeared while driving home friday evening. i had the shop pick it up and check it out on monday. they found two codes but no support for the problem in the test drive. approximately 20 minutes after i left the shop, the first sign appeared with my rpm revving up to 5k before shifting into 2nd gear. i stopped at a stop light briefly. when i started to go forward, the van bumped and hesitated before getting in to gear and being able to accelerate forward. this continued at the next two stop lights back to the shop. since it is my only vehicle and i am a single mom, he had me keep the van until monday. the car drove fine home and then would not accelerate above 20 mph on the way home from church. reading a honda forum informed me this is not a unique situation.

Transmission failure and catalytic converter failure. it appears that most 2001 honda odysseys had transmission failure.

I bought this 2001 honda odyssey in sept. 2001. in 2007 i had problem with its transmission. the dealer replaced it free with honda extended warranty in august 2007. in december 2010, about 3 years after getting a new transmission from honda, the new transmission also went bad. the dealer will not replace it free stating that i am out of warranty at 113,000 miles now and that the new transmission they put does not come with any warranty! the dealer quoted $5,285 for a new transmission. i feel that honda installed a lemon transmission in my van the second time and should take responsibility for that.

I had a 2001 honda odyssey with 169,000 miles on it. i was the only owner, and it was in very good condition. on jan, 6, 2011 at 12:50 in the afternoon i was southbound on i-43 in milwaukee and exited at the mckinley/fond du lac exit. despite repeatedly pumping and pressing on the brakes, i was unable to stop the van. i was able to slow it down with great effort, but was unable to fully stop it. in order to avoid driving into cross-traffic on fond d lac ave. at the light at the bottom on the exit ramp, i turned up onto a sidewalk/grassy area. the van suddenly accelerated and, in order to stop it, i intentlonally drove it into an abutment/concrete wall that is part on an underpass that goes under i-43. i was in no way impaired, and am certain that i did not have my foot on the accelerator. in fact, after the accident, i looked down to make sure and my foot was still on the brake. the van was totaled and eventually destoyed. i do not know what the cause of the unintended acceleration was. a field adjustor for my insurance company said he checked the cable and the placement of the floor mats. neither was a cause.

I own a 2001 honda odyssey vin 2hkrl18761h599657. it has 53,000 miles. recently, on june 5th, 2010, i have found out that the vehicle is having some transmission issues. as is evident, i have driven only 53,000 miles in the past 9 years, which is much below the average of 12,000 miles driven per year. this car was driven primarily for doing groceries and dropping off and picking up my kids from school. this is our family car; we drive it with utmost care and get it serviced regularly per the requirements. i have called american honda motor co., ltd. 1-800-999-1009 and spoke with the manager mr. darrell harville. he mentioned that is a known defect and honda had issued a recall for this year and model of honda. honda also issued an extended warranty for the period of 7 years and 9 month or 109,000 whichever comes first. i checked on honda's website and found that my vin# is in the recall list. i validated my vin# ( 2hkrl18761h599657) on http://www.hondatransmissionsettlement.com/php/login.php website and got the following message: this vehicle is covered under the settlement. to find out more about the settlement, please read the notice of proposed settlement of class action. however, i have not received any letters or emails regarding this defect and recall. since my car is 9 years old i am late and would have to fix transmission at my own expense. i have inquired with a few honda dealers and was told that, it would cost me more than $4000 to fix this defect (to fix transmission with factory rebuilt one). the $4000 cost to fix the transmission is almost half the current price of my car based on current estimates. i am requesting honda motor co. to bear the cost of this defect, as this is clearly a factory build/ design issue which can be classified as a pre-existing condition. honda motor co. needs to take ownership of this issue, as i paid full price for a brand new car with transmission defects.
