Before my transmission overhaul, my odyssey would slip gears and make a thump sound upon initial acceleration and subsequent increases in speed. the check engine and tcs lights would come on and stay lit. after the overhaul, i found out there were bulletins out on parts that were defective and with replacement transmissions additional cooling and filters had to be replaced, as well as additional changes. a year after the overhaul, started having the same slippage and sounds from the transmission again. this time, while on the highway traveling at 70mph, my back window gets covered up by an oily discolored substance. it was to the point i could not see out the rear window. the smell of burned rubber or tar was coming through the vent and the a/c or heat was not on. my rpm needle started shifting up from 3 to 5 and bouncing back between them, then down to 2 and then finally back to 3....with no change in speed. the check engine light and tcs lights come on and stay lit. my brakes tended to be a little soft then a little hard. called a mechanic that i knew was available and worked on transmissions and asked him what to do and he said get off the road fast and check your fluid levels. my odyssey had spit out all the transmission fluid and some oil throughout the engine, underneath and back on the driver's side rear tire area. if it had not been for the fact that i was extremely familiar with my van (single owner) and paid attention to the last problems i had, i might have locked up in the middle of a busy highway with my children in the car and may not have lived to see another day.

The vehicle experienced the following: out of alignment, loud bang/ticking, shaking, engine hesitation, inoperative a/c, a contaminated filter with metal shavings, a/c drain tube was rubbing and draining on the steering rack boot, coolant reservoir was empty and the right front seal on the body was damaged due to it being improperly placed, a/c knob was broken, the a/c airflow automatically changed, when the a/c blower motor speed decreased, various dash lights would dim, the hood latch was defective, static shock problem, there was a coolant smell, due to the reservoir fluid level, the sliding door was inoperative, the transmission was defective, the crankshaft pulley and the steering wheel vibrated, the right door seal had come apart, the splash shield clip was missing, the idle speed fluctuated from 750 to 2000 rpm with the vehicle in park/neutral, and immediately after, the mil light had come on. the repairs are as followed: wheels aligned, a/c condenser and compressor evaporation dryer, intake manifold, reinstalled rear evaporator/heater unit, installed a drain tube in the retainer bracket, hood latch was replaced, pcm replaced to solve the transmission problem, removed the broken bolt from the block, the crankshaft pulley vibration is still unresolved, and the slash shield clip has been replaced. *mr scc *jb

Dt*: the contact stated while driving 65 mph on normal road conditions, a ding noise was heard coming from the rear side drivers windows as if a pebble had been thrown at the window, then the side rear windows imploded shattering in pieces. the dealer was contacted, and determined the shattered window was not caused by a manufacturer defect. the windows were not replaced or repaired. the contact was waiting on the insurance company to evaluate the vehicle to determine what caused the windows to implode. updated 11/30/06.*jb

We purchased a 2001 honda odyssey from garcia honda and still own the vehicle, he vin is 2hkrl18641h568656. several months ago my wife was driving the van home with my daughter in the 2nd row seating. she was in the process of making a left turn from academy road (in albuquerque), onto ventura (north) when suddenly the front passenger side window imploded into a pile of glass, all over the car. my wife thought the window had been shot out or otherwise maliciously destroyed from some external source, and immediately called the police fortunately no one was seated in the passenger seat. we filed a police report about the incident and had the window replaced via allstate insurance. no projectiles were found in the vehicle, and we just had the window replaced and went about our business. at night on leaving our son?s birthday party at hinkle family fun center, and merging onto i-40 west at juan tabo (merging onto the freeway), the drivers side front window imploded (by itself) into another pile of glass, nearly causing an accident and shooting glass all over my wife (driving) and the inside of the car (which had three other children in it at the time), causing some small cuts on her arms, and ruining the clothes she was wearing. this is way too big of a co-incidence for both of these passenger windows to just self destruct by themselves on the same vehicle. i would expect and hope honda would pay for this repair, and investigate the block of vans and the glass that were manufactured with the same run of glass and window assemblies, before one explodes in a vehicle that does cause an accident or serious injury. *ak

The power sliding door fails to open electronically, either through the remote, the driver's controls on the dash, or the handles (both interior & exterior) on the door. this only affects one door (so far). the dealer says that washers have to be attached to four grounding wires inside the door in order for the electrical circuitry to work correctly, at a cost of $240. it is already out of warranty, but it seems that i shouldn't have to pay to repair what appears to be a defect in either the design or manufacturing of the vehicle.

While driving through baton rouge enroute to new orleans, there was a major exploding sound and my passenger side window completely shattered in my lap. we were on the interstate and there were no cars immediately in front of or on the side of our car. we did not see any flying depree or rocks. a truck driver who was behind us did not see any rocks or anything either , he was as shocked as we were. what i would like to know is if honda has replaced many side windows and if anyone else has had this experience. i know if a rock hits a window, it usually shatters in place, but this window exploded in my face and lap.*ak
