I took my 2003 odyssey for ac compressor relay replacement when i was informed the front engine mount needed replacing. i was surprised to hear this and i found out through my web search that it is a very common problem with odyssey model. this is a design flaw and a safety issue for me and my family. honda should look into this serious problem and read the complaints odyssey owners have been complaining about and posting on the web http://community.cartalk.com/discussion/1560611/honda-odyssey-motor-mount-problem i am very disappointed that honda has been aware of the design flaw in the engine mounts and have not taken responsibility.

Honda odyssey 2003 was purchased used on 10/31/06. (no mention of a recall) jan 22, 2008 van began to slip gears.

Transmission was replaced at 67,000 miles and again at 99,500 miles on my honda odyssey. my first replacement was covered under an extended warranty, but the second was out of my pocket because i was told that the first transmission replacement had a 2 year or 20k mile warranty. i would like to know if there is any way to get compensated for the second replacement. why isn't there a better solution? i would think any replacement should have a longer warranty, and a better, long lasting part. the odyssey was purchased used by carmax, with no mention of any potential problems, and mechanics have never mentioned this was a bigger issue until my second replacement. odysseys between 1999 and 2004 have a known transmission problem, but it seems that since the recall, there has been nothing to remedy this problem for current owners. this seems serious and could potentially be causing injuries or fatalities, especially since it is specifically purchased by families with children.

The mechanism that locks the key in the ignition until the vehicles is shifted into park fails and needs to be addressed by honda.the key can be removed without shifting into park. this could cause the vehicles to roll off unexpectedly and hurt an innocent bystander or roll off into an intersection. this issue needs to be addressed immediately and honda needs to address this key- ignition issue. although i haven't suffered any accident i always try to remember to keep my car in park before removing the key. i have heard from several people this is a common issue with this model year for both the odyssey and the pilot.

Vehicle was parked in a parking lot, light downhill. vehicle was left and found 5 minutes later 12 meter further down, after a small crash with another parked vehicle. bumper got scratches. the key can be removed from the ignition when the vehicle is in the n position.

The car was in park with no keys in the ignition and my six year old bumped the shifter out of park and the vehicle rolled down the driveway with him inside. we were right next to the car and were able to jump in and hit the brakes. in a controlled setting, we have replicated this several times.

My husband parked our 2003 honda odyssey in our driveway, alongside the main entrance to our home. he removed the key and went inside, placing the key in the usual location. he changed his shirt, intending to remove from the car the 4' x 8' sheet of exterior plywood he had just purchased. when he went back outside, the car had rolled backwards down our driveway and across the road, and was floating in the lake directly in front of our home. the car slowly sunk to the bottom of the lake. a tow truck was called and a diver located the vehicle in the 15 foot deep water. the insurance company totalled the car, and said the incident was the fault of the driver, for not putting the car in park, even though the key had been removed. the car was not stopped on a sloping surface, but the weight of the plywood probably caused the car to roll backwards onto the sloping part of our driveway. since there has been no recall based on this defect, the insurance company places full blame on the driver. how can i get them to not charge this incident to driver negligence? he has never had a chargeable accident, and this should not have happened, with the key removed from the ignition.

Vehicle was parked. driver used front dash auto open button to open side door on driver's side. 6 year old child in the back seat had gotten out of her car seat and as the door was opening her leg slipped into the open space between the door and the retractor bar. the door did not register that there was an object and continued to press on her leg until driver was able to exit vehicle and pull sliding door handle to reverse direction to free up the child's leg. leg was painful but no serious injury on this occasion.

Indeed i can remove the ignition key from my 2003 honda odyssey van in any gear. if on a slope, the vehicle will roll away.

I parked the car in the driveway to pick up my 4 yr grandson.i left the car, with keys in hand, but left the car door open. i turned my back to the door to walk around the back of the car, and noticed the car was rolling backwards toward the street.i turned quickly in the direction of the steering wheel attempting to insert my right leg to press the brake.i hopped a few times on my left leg, as the car door was pushing me backwards.unable to reach the brake, the force of the car door slammed me to the ground on my right buttock and right side.the bottom of the door scraped over my left knee, leaving two gashes and bruised knee, scraped up over my left arm and shoulder, compressing my shoulders, clavicle, chest cavity and base of skull (shoulder to shoulder measuring 19) so they would fit beneath the door (12 clearance).the bottom of the car door is crimped where it gave into the pressure of pushing my body into the ground.the car continued to roll across the street, up over the curb, and finally stopped with the rear wheels on the sidewalk and the front wheels still in the street against the curb.no tires rolled over me.when my daughter entered the car to reposition and park it, she found the car in reverse, and i had the keys in my hand.a neighbor had difficulty inserting the key, but was able to start and park it.i drove the van to mohawk honda, with blood dripping from abrasions.they gave me a ride home while they replaced ignition cylinder, gave me 2 new keys, told me there were no recalls, and charged me $555.when i asked if this should be reported somewhere, i was told no.i saw the nhtsa article in the newspaper today 10/6/12.i have a no fault claim, head ct scan, continuing pt and therapy dealing with ptsd and constant head and neckaches.a brother of my son's classmate was killed 4 days ago as a dodge caravan rolled over him in his driveway. he was 11 yr.

While i was driving my engine light came on and soon after my tcs light came on. i was on the highway and when i slowed down to get off on an exit and tried to go up in gear my van stalled and would not go past 25 to 30 mph. i took it to an auto place to check the engine light and these codes came up p0740 torque converter clutch circuit malfunction and p0730 inncorrect gear ratio.

Transmission went out on us while driving to florida, took the van to trans pro in dothan alabama. the tech who looked at the van said that we had no 1st or 5th gears. the discs had melted due to over heating, and that this was a common problem with honda mini vans. it cost us over $2700 to fix money we didn't have. i think honda should pay us in full for the repair. i will never buy a car/van from them again.

Driver's side automatic door has started not operating correctly. the driver's side power sliding door closes but not quite all the way, it will not engage, or catch. therefore, the van thinks the door is still open (open door light is on, buzzes continually when put into gear, and interior lights stay on). however, the power sliding door indicator light is not on, so the van thinks the door is closed, but it is still open. i have to get out and physically bump the rear of the door the final centimeter or so to get it flush. sometimes no matter how much i try the door will not catch all the way. for some reason the back lock part isn't catching. this occurs almost every time the door is shut. this is a danger for my children riding in the car if the door is not engaged.

Vehicle had a flashing d light and it didn't have the same pick up. it was taken to the dealer dch kay honda who declared it was the 4th pressure switch $271.29 and the service advisor said, the transmission was fine that was july 21, 2011. september 22, 2011 the car is now sluggish and slamming into gears i took the car to dch kay honda and they said, the transmission needs to be replaced $4420.00. the van has been sitting because i can't afford to replace the transmission.

Van had difficulty shifting from 2nd -3rd gear with slipping and revving exceptional high before transitions suddenly into next gear. van was recalled at 24,000 miles for repair to fix the transmission problem, which was completed in 2004 as requested. this van had been diligently maintained only at dealership, other than routine oil changes, and we are the original owners. sevice department at dealership states that the transmission is shot and needs to be replaced, costing $6600. honda of america is not helpful and unwilling to help in any manner.

On the freeway when all of a sudden without warning slipped and lost power. very scary with small children in the car and was barley able to make it off the freeway without getting into an accident. only by the grace of god did we make it safely off the freeway. honda dealer said we needed a new transmission. i had the extended warranty up to 106,000. just a few thousand miles over warranty and honda would only grant %50 coverage. still cost me $2797.00. honda of america knows all about this transmission problem but still does not compensate loyal honda customers. my dealer replaced this transmission (that had a previous recall in 2003) with a re-manufactured transmission now on september 19, 2011 the tcs light came on with the engine warning light and the car shuddered badly at 30 mph. brought to the dealer but they are denying that it is a transmission problem? we bought the honda odyssey for its safety features and reliability. honda and their dealer are not standing behind their product. i will look elsewhere for my next car purchase.

2003 odyssey left my wife in a terrible situation. it suddenly failed when she was in the middle of traffic with children in the car. with no warning, it would not move the vehicle and ground to a stop, leaving her almost out of control of the vehicle. honda is supposed to be a manufacturer with well designed, reliable products, but it is not so with this transmission. when a manufacturer realizes there is a problem with a vehicle, but year after year after year does nothing to remediate the problem, it is irresponsible and reckless to continue to manufacture the vehicle with the problematic transmission.

Transmission failure: travelling up a hill on a freeway at 70mph with family/children in the vehicle, suddenly & without warning, transmission wildly shifts from 4th down to 2nd/1st, back to 3rd, continues lurching/shifting back and forth as rpm's fluctuate wildly; hobbled to next exit, smoke & trans fluid coming from under hood. called local dealer who has no idea what's wrong with it but for $100 will check it out. result: they tell me that trans overheated & melted down, burned out clutches, needs new trans -> $4800 (rebuilt). trans was just fine & trans fluid was fine prior to this incident, car was maintained, absolutely no warning of anything amiss. now i find out via the internet that many, many people have this problem w/2003 odyssey's. called american honda, they tell me, there is no known problem with this model year (lie) and they won't do anything to help with the repair because the car came w/36,000 mile warranty and we are beyond that. he actually asked me, is this the first time your transmission has blown on this vehicle? are you still on your first transmission? which is a funny thing to ask if there is no known problem. internet indicates that when people have trans replaced, 2nd trans frequently blows also. this car had a recall for trans oil cooling, was completed before we bought (new from dealer) & we were not informed about it. this is definitely a safety issue when your trans explodes at 70mph with your children in the back seat.

While driving on a highway 65 mph with my kids in the car, the drivers side automatic sliding door opens all by itself. we had to find a place to pull over and shut the door. the door opens fine but will not latch on and close properly anymore. the interior cal lights go on and everything starts beeping and dashboard starts flashing. it is not only very distracting but also very dangerous. the door just won't shut anymore.

I am writing today with concerns about my 2003 honda odyssey. the vehicle was recently at the dealership for a timing belt replacement. much to my dismay, i received a call saying that the front and side engine mounts were bad and needed to be replaced at a cost of $516.81. i must say that i have never heard of engine mounts going bad on a vehicle and needing to be replaced. we bought a honda odyssey to have as a reliable family van that we planned to keep for a while. one of the main reasons we bought a honda is because of the noted reputation for being a safe and reliable auto brand. the dealer stated that the motor mount replacement should correct another problem that we reported with the van. the transmission regularly makes a terrible clunking noise when it is shifted from park to reverse. we also reported this same clunking and some slipping in the transmission when the vehicle was under warranty and were told that it was not a problem. these problems have never gone away and we have great concerns about the viability of the transmission in our odyssey. fortunately it has not left us stranded on the roadside and stuck with a huge repair bill yet. our concerns seem to be validated based on the information we have read on various web sites about the problems and failures of the odyssey's transmission. we went ahead and spent the money to have the engine mounts replaced. however, this has not fixed the problem with the

I bought a 2003 honda odyssey and the transmission has an issue for acceleration from 20~40mph, which it looks like the gear not hooked up. i had the honda dealer check up and they didn't think the transmission had issue. this kind of incident happened many times starting from last october to now. it happened again today. it is dangerous to drive.

While driving uphill our 2003 honda odyssey transmission failed and we dangerously rolled down the hill into a side street, with children in the car. we had it towed to dealership and was told transmission needed to be replaced at a cost of 1/4 of original price of car. honda agreed to pay 43% of inflated dealership estimate, which clearly is an admission of a defective and unsafe transmission. after repair is made we were still left with an outrageous bill that we cannot afford. honda has a problem and needs to reimburse 100% of repair costs to make odysseys safe for transporting families.

For the past several years a significant jolt was felt when gears shifted on 2003 odyssey. sometimes the shift would come with a slight delay. finally, check engine light came on. at the end i had to replace transmission and pcm.

I have not had an accident or injury due to this, but my 2003 honda odessey can be turned off and the keys removed while the vehicle is still in gear. i have had it roll back a few feet before i caught it a couple of times.

2003 honda odyssesy van (85k) shudders when accelerating at about 22 mph, particularly uphill. i have taken it in twice for this, to the dealer, who says they can find no cause. while i was picking my van up today from being serviced and to address this issue i overheard another customer talking about his van shuddering. his is a 2004 and it happens at 45 mph. the customer service rep told me that they had 3 vans in today, all with the same complaint. no problems found, but if i wanted to take a technician with me and replicate it i could give them a call.

The key for my 2003 odyssey can be pulled out in any gear. it has already resulted in a small collision . when the car was parked on a small incline, i failed to put the car in park when i pulled out my key. the car subsequently rolled down the incline and crashed into a parked car. the honda dealer indicated the ignition switch needed to be replaced because it was worn. in the meantime, i now just try to always remember to set the parking brake and double check when i park that the car is actually in park before i pull the key.

Just getting old, maybe the motor is getting weak, but the automatic doors on my 2003 honda odyssey have stopped latching completely. we have kids in the van, and it is a real safety issue, and from what i've read trying to fix this problem, it seems to me like this is very frequent problem worthy of a recall before something terrible happens.
