Re: nhtsa phone ref. #438678, honda's recall campaign #s34, nhtsa campaign id #12v136000: similar incident with my 2003 honda odyssey on 8/18/2011 while driving on a very dark rural road. when necessary to switch from high beam headlights to low beam headlights, i was left totally in the dark as i had no low beams. managed to make it home safely without incident with high beams only. next day both headlight low beam bulbs were replaced for me @a cost of $53.35. do not think the cause was traced as was not aware there was a common problem, but in my 50 years of driving i have never eperienced this situation before. also on jan. 4, 2012, had to have a rear 12v bulb (part #34906-st5-003) replaced. cost: $7.61. became aware of this bulb disfunctioning by dashboard notification.

The rear vents in an honda odyssey have stopped functioning. based on web searches this seems like a very common problem and surely points to a manufacturing defect. on activating the switch to operate the vents there is no automatic cutoff as soon as the vents are opened / closed all the way. this apparently leads to the motor over-heating and causing it to burn. there are no manual controls available to operate the vents. based on your location the van will now be overheated (fl) or extremely cold (co) as the internal a/c unit cannot / will not funcion at the optimum levels. *tr

While traveling north bound on us hwy 29, traveling at approximately 50 mph with all windows in their fully closed positions, the passenger side window simply disappeared into the door. after erratic maneuver, due to sudden and surprise in a rush of air into the cabin, speed had to be reduced. frantic efforts to raise the window failed. vehicle was pulled over to the side of the road. dealership was contacted. however, the service department was closed. no accidents occurred. vehicle was taken to dealership next day at 08:30. dealership repaired problem and charged approximately $250.00, claiming part was not covered under any warranty. a very similar event occurred to the drivers side door under very similar circumstances. accident was averted in that event, due to the suddenness of the even. the dealership repaired the very same issue at no charge. the fact that no warning occurred in either case, makes this a very serious problem that could easily cause a driver to steer off of the road or be distracted for the moment it takes to cause an accident (especially during inclement weather). i would like to see honda corporation take responsibility for repairing this very serious mechanical problem that leads to compromised cabin safety. *tr

I had my car park at work. at 4:30 when i was leaving work i walked to my car opened the drivers door. i closed the door and heard a window shatter and it blow out of the car for no apparent reason. the window that shattered was the passanger sided sliding door. i call the dealer and they said that glass was not covered under the warrenty by honda. i called honda and they said that the dealer should have looked at it to determine if it was a defect. it sounds like they are playing the blame game. i had the university police write up an incident report and have pictures of the window right after it happened. i am having to replace the window tomorrow 5-6-04 and will cost approx $359.00. *ak
