Left (driver's side) sliding door on honda odyssey will not close or lock. had to drive to the dealer with the door constantly opening and my children inside the car. my friend sat on the back seat to try to keep the door closed. i do think this is a safety issue since this happened out of the blue without any warning at all. the dealer said that honda does not see it as a safety issue. i see the door property closing as a safety issue since it is a family car with children involved. i see it as a safety issue just like i see seat belts as a safety issue. i think there is something wrong with this problem, it is unsafe.

Vehicle is a 2005 honda odyssey ex with 89k miles. the passenger-side front power door lock failed, and also prevented the door lock from being manually unlocked. this was first noticed on december 13, 2009. there is no damage to the door, either externally or internally. the power door lock control button works correctly to open the other doors. a passenger sitting in this seat cannot open the door, and it cannot be opened from the outside -- it remained locked. i reported this to the local dealership where the vehicle was purchased, and it was stated this type of failure has never occurred before. i obtained a repair quote of approximately $200, assuming the lock actuator was at fault. i then brought the vehicle to an independent repair shop on dec.23, 2009; the interior door panel was removed, and it was confirmed the lock actuator had failed. the part (p/n 72115-s6a-j01) had to be ordered, and the faulty component was replaced on jan.4, 2010. total cost from the independent repair shop was $120.96. i have retained the failed component. *tr

I have a 2005 honda odyssey ex-l, i am the original owner. for approx 1.5 years the left sliding passenger door has been inoperable. for the first approx. 2 months the door would not latch properly without manually slamming or bumping it shut several times. then, it froze, and would not open. since i have small children, i was fine with it staying shut. suddenly, last month (aug 7), the door popped open while i was driving with my 6 year old in the seat by the door. thankfully, we were not on the freeway at the time & i was able to pull over. after playing with the door for several minutes, i was able to secure it and return home. the door is now frozen again. at this point, i am afraid to transport my 3 kids in this car. honda does not seem to consider this a safety issue. we cannot get this repaired under warranty as it has expired and is not under a recall. *tr

4 year child in the back drivers side seat, not the third row. vehicle is equiped with an automatic rear sliding door closure mechanism. the door closure system has safety mechanism that appeared to be fuctioning properly at the time of the incident. when automatic door was closing child put her left hand between the door and the frame as it closed. the door continued to close and completed the latching process with the child's hand crushed between the door and the frame. the door had to be opened to extract the childs hand. the child sustained serve crushing injuries to the entire hand, from the palm to the finger tips. the child was taken immeadiately to an pediatric orthopedic surgeon. the surgeon x-rayed the hand and determined that one of the bones on the middle finger had been broken. after the incident the automatic door safety mechanism appeared to be functioning normally. *ak

2005 honda odyssey touring with 3000 miles. the left side passenger power sliding door opened completely while the car was in motion today 05/21/05. the door was closed and locked before this happened. the door open indicator on the mid did not go on before this happened. the door open indicator on the mid showed only when the door flew open. the power mechanism had been turned off. my eight year old son was sitting in the left side second row seat when this happened. he was wearing his seatbelt. no person or thing fell out of the car. when i began this trip the door open buzzer went on when the transmission was in drive but not when in park. the buzzer shut off when the power door mechanism was turned off even if the transmission was in drive. i checked all the doors and they looked closed, seated and locked. the door open indicator never showed either on the dashboard or on the mid until the door flew open. after this incident i could not get the left side door to close and latch manually. using the power mechanism the door did not seem to close completely unless i helped it by pushing. but after a couple of seconds the door seemed to pop open a bit and it obviously was not latched. the lock did not hold at all. one month ago the open door buzzer was going on when the transmission was in drive even though the doors were closed. the buzzer shut off if i turned the power door mechanism off. this was an intermittent problem. i also had some problems closing the left side door manually. i took the car for service to the local honda dealer (keyes woodland hills honda in woodland hills california). they returned the car the same day and said the door sensors had to be adjusted and that nothing was wrong with the doors or the door mechanism. things were okay for a few weeks. albert r. katz vin: 5fnrl38895b042623
