I have very low mileage and the transmission seems to be going out. also the rear main seal has blown. the mechanic says because of the transmission it affect the rear seal. i know honda has had several issues with its transmissions and they have helped some people and not others. i filed a claim and was denied yet it seems there are issues that are the same as others that have been helped. *tr

When vehicle shifts from 2nd to 3rd, there is a delay(grind). a and b pillars are week and produce a whistling noise starting at 35 mph. the rear bench (the bigger part of the split bench) will not latch down to the floor. pax run flat tires are deflating with no age or puncture related problems. all of these are safety hazards. rear lift gate struts failed and will not lift up rear door and can cause the door to crash down.

Had our 05 odyssey ex-l in for standard servicing and was told rear and passenger side motor mounts required replacing (at a cost of $1200+)! van experiences noticeable noise and vibration as is shifts in and out of the eco phase of engine operation. i have never owned a vehicle that required motor mount replacement and after research, a service bulletin was apparently issued back in 2006 on this issue. this appears to be a widespread issue on the 2005 time frame odysseys. this is clearly an engineering issue and should be addressed thru honda via recall! *tr

Without warning, on a busy interstate in birmingham, al while traveling to florida on vacation, my vehicle's transmission burned up and gave out. there was no warning light, no hint of an issue prior to it failing, and a transmission flush and fill was performed at 60,000 miles two years ago, per the recommended interval by honda. i had to pull over two lanes to the shoulder in rush hour traffic at full speed with my car smoking and spewing transmission fluid all over the roadway and cars (plus a motorcycle) that were behind me. *tr

I want people to know that honda now has a software fix for shuddering transmission problems and shaking. our 2005 odyssey touring would shake between 35-45 mph. we had the transmission serviced several time and never had a broken engine mount. honda just came out with this fix in late june 2012 and it seems to have solved our problem. our honda garage installed this software update for free even though we now have 122k. it only takes 15 minutes. hope this helps. *tr

Just bought a 2005 honda odyssey. right off the lot got on the freeway and the check engine light came on and started shutering and slipping . very unhappy , slapped down $4000 as a down payment and financed the rest. now i own a a van that has major problems and no cash to fix it. havent even had it for a day and it already has transmission problems. need honda to fix it at their expense. their impecable repution is getting destroyed with this transmission problem that all odyssey owners are having with models 2005- 2009 . they charge a premium for their vehicles and should be forced to repair their defective transmissions regardless of milage on vehicles. our government needs to step in and help its citizens with this problem.

This is a new car purchased and serviced by the dealer from the date of delivery (12/28/04). the honda service dept did not discover the transmission problems until it malfunctioned. this is very unusual. i have all the service documents to prove it. the honda service department would like me to replace the transmission at my own expense. their negligence caused this auto transmission failure.

2005 honda transmission is failing at 60k miles. some motor mounts were ruined from the shaking and needed to be replaced. the front axle has damage from the shaking as well. and i still need to replace the transmission. the gearing gets stuck shifting around 45 mph, it groans and shakes the car before finally shifting down a gear.

2005 honda odyssey, transmission failure at 111,930 miles. the transmissions shops said the torque converters are bad and fail regularly in the honda vans.
11/01/200985000
At around 85,000 miles our 2005 odyssey started exhibiting a transmission shudder in the 30-40 mph range. i talked with the dealer about it, and they mentioned it would require the torque converter being replaced. however, they offered a much cheaper possible fix to the problem of replacing all the transmission fluid (cost about $200). that seems to have temporarily fixed the problem. i had the flush done again after 15,000 miles. hopefully, this will be the only fix needed.

My 2005 honda odyssey shudders at speeds between 30 and 45. i was told i need to replace my torque converter. through various research, i have begun to see that this is a common problem - there was a safety bulletin (09-053) published for the 07 and 08 model.
10/21/201072600
The car shutters around 40 - 50 mph as well as on inclines. i'm amazed at how many complaints there are about this and how common the defect is that the two places i called after being told by the honda dealer that i needed a $2200 torque converter put in knew immediately what i was talking about. the 05 oddessey's are notorious for this problem. i'm surprised that honda has let this go without a recall.

Honda odyssey shudders when shifting gears between 20 and 40 mph. this has been happening for 2+ years and am now told that transmission is in danger.
05/05/201060000
Original owner of 2005 honda odyssey van. around 60,000 miles and while still under the honda care warranty, the car began to shudder at 20-40 mph speeds when shifting gears. similar to the multiple complaints about torque converter and transmissions. this is scary and i know not what could happen when transmission decides to let go completely. local honda dealer checked the vehicle two times before the warranty ran out (july of 2010) and couldn't duplicate the problem when they drove it. absent a recall by honda to correct this deficiency, the reported problems will continue to grow until someone gets hurt. i feel they should recall the vehicle and fix the transmission when it was reported to them multiple times while still under warranty.
04/14/200875000
My 2005 honda odyssey has a transmission shudder due to the faulty torque coverter that honda put into this vehicle. thee are thousands of complaints on this issue and honda ignores its customers and provides no recall for this problem.
05/19/201080000
2005 honda odyssey touring van this problem started a while ago when the van gets to a steady speed of aprox 40 usually at a slight incline the car starts to jitter or feel like going over railroad tracks. now it is happening at other speeds. i was told it was a cracked block months ago and had it replaced.this did not fix the problem. now being told torque converter will fix the problem @$1900. called honda usa they said the will not consider reviewing my claim because of my mileage is now 100,000. others on web are having similar problems..my best guess is that we have been having this problem for 15-20,000 miles.

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 honda odyssey. the contact stated that when he attempted to accelerate to speeds of 20 to 40 mph, the vehicle would shutter. while driving at higher speeds, the shuttering would stop. the dealer stated that the torque converter and rear engine mounts needed to be replaced. the manufacturer would not offer any assistance since the factory warranty was not valid. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 87,000 and the current mileage was 91,000.
03/31/201078000
2005 honda odyssey has defective transmissions which honda needs to replace before someone is killed. the automatic transmision jerks the vehicle forward at speeds of 20-45 mph. this is dangerous as you could be driving slowly at 15-20mph in school zone and the transmission judders and jerks the vehicle forward. honda is making customers spend $'s to perform transmision fluid flushes, have dealership do software updates and change torque converters. none of these will work. please investigate before valuable lives are lost like with the toyota incident. honda does not want to issue a formal transmission recall because it would cost them hundreds of millions to replace transmissions. the us government has a duty to investicate this problem thoroughly before someone gets hurt.

I have a 2005 honda odyssey with 80000 miles on it and the transmission is shuddering. honda said it would cost $2,000-2,500 to fix because it is possibly a torque problem. per ody blogs many other ody owners experiencing same problem. honda will not acknowledge problem.

2005 odyssey mini van. oil leak at under 24000 miles. transmission replaced. then 7/08 had another oil leak just after it had express service at honda dealership. took back they said that something did not get put on tight enough. took back two weeks or so later, around 32000 miles now still leaking. replaced oil pan and gasket. still leaking. took back told it was transmission. they started to order one. honda had me come back in to take pictures. my service rep was not there at that time. at this time said it was engine oil not trans. went back when my service rep was in. she found leak and it was the transmission. another trans was put in around jan 6th 2009 at around 38,500 miles. i was told this is not normal. but there seems to many complaints on transmissions on the honda vans. *tr
09/12/2008400001
I purchased my vehicle new and vigilantly maintain it. with fewer than 43,000 miles, the automatic transmission fails to properly lockup at 45 mph on level grade when warm. the dealers scan tool indicated absence of any detected abnormality, but their test drive confirmed the symptom--pulsing power to the drive wheels. they told me the torque converter is failing which they don't replace nor repair so they said it needs a new transmission. they said it was ok to drive. they never acknowledged a history of transmission problems nor any related service campaigns or technical service bulletins. i am, like i said, vigilant about service, so i will take care of this before it becomes an issue, but others may be at risk if the transmission fails rapidly due to improper design. *tr

POWER TRAIN - AXLE ASSEMBLY

We first noticed a severe vibration in our car about two months ago when traveling between 65-70 mph. took honda ody to dealer to have them review. suggested we rotate and balance tires (as we have done with nearly each oil change). car had 20k miles. we did as suggested but vibration continued. we drove the car to south florida (8 hours of driving) and the vibration seemed to worsen. went to different local honda dealer to have them look at it. they suggested another balance and alignment. we said ok (another $150) and they said their tech drove it and it was gone. great - took the car home and experienced it again on my test loop home. called second dealer again who took car in. first they looked at the pax system and said we need new tires and that should fix it. they then put new tires on from a new ody on their lot. did not resolve it. now they feel it is the front axles that are defective and still have the car. hopefully this will fix the problems but not from what i have read from other consumers of the 2005 honda ody... i feel all this will recur. so, two problems. the pax system touted for safety and longevity has almost bald side edges of each tire at 22k miles now. is this safe for my family? now i need to replace them for $1k. second issue is faulty axles that are worn at 22k miles. wow. seems to be some serious safety and design defects in this $40k vehicle that would not be accepted on a $20k car. *jb
