One owner of a 2005 honda odyssey. vehicle used to drive back and forth to work, general errands, occasional drive out of town. within the past couple of months, my wife noticed severe shaking of steering wheel when accelerating at 65 mph. vehicle taken to shop, had vehicle inspected: usual tire rotation, alignment, balancing performed; however problem persisted, and replaced two new tires. took vehicle back to same shop, alignment and balancing re-done; however, problem persisted. took vehicle to different shop--purchased 4 new tires, and had alignment and balancing performed once again; however, problem persisted. had tires replaced and alignment and balancing performed yet again; however, problem persists. advised by shop manager that he is 95% sure based on driving test that motor mounts are in need of replacement. it is my opinion that the motor mounts are prematurely failing, and thus deemed to be faulty, and that they should be replaced by honda a their expense. too many other honda odyssey owners with same issue, and expensive repairs. *tr

Big o euro tire tire tracking with longitudinal road contour changes causing the front of the vehicle to shift right or left. big o rep said it was an alignment issue. after alignment the tracking was only more pronounced. while passing a vehicle the tracking almost pulled my car into vehicle i was passing. *tr

Vehicle has been exhibiting a very harsh shaking/vibration while in eco mode. this is distracting as well as uncomfortable. recently the vibration has gotten so bad, we can not see out of any of the mirrors as the shaking vibrates them to the point of complete uselessness. the worst part is that we just paid $2000 at a dealership to replace the rear motor mount and flush transmission again. we have had this van since 60k and serviced transmission four times now, replacing motor mount twice. this time, with no apparent effect.

Recently noticed like the brakes are not released fully after the application resulting in a falt tire feeling with noise took the minivan for scheuled recall service. per service person, they replaced the caps of brake master cylinder. driving back home @ 70 miles, felt like the steering loosing control, stopped at the near by chevorlet service center: they didn't felt any major issues with the steering but felt like the service wasn't done as they said. all the dust was evenly there all over the master cylinder: all over the bonnet. i feel no change with the friction noise from the brakes: a little worse? how do i ensure that a genuine service was done? now i feel insecure to drive on this, like driving on black ices. the electronic system was rest last time, but not it is back to not working good: resulting with trouble with the a/c knob not working smoothly.

I have owned my 2005 honda odyssey touring since it was new. i replaced the power steering pump at 34k miles. i have put 3 sets of tires on my minivan even though i rotate every other oil change. all done by the dealer. my van will loose steering at times when it is cold and makes a loud noise under the hood. in addition, the steering will shake when driving as well as when braking. i just replaced the tires which included a front-end alignment and tire balance. the shimmy, vibration and shaking back/forth is still there. the brakes and rotors have been cleared by dealer and they cannot figure out what is wrong. this has been an on going problem with my odyssey. the water pump started at 15k miles and each time i took it back they did not know the issue and changed the water pump at 34k miles. the tire shaking, vibrating and shimmy has been happening since 55k miles and the van now has 105k. i am tired of the problem. it has gotten so bad that i don't wan to slam on my brakes because the steering wheel starts to fail. this is a honda and is suppose to last. honda needs to stand behind this problem. as i search the web there are many honda owners with the same issue but honda will not do a recall. honda needs to understand that this is a safety issue. steering. people can die from this. in addition, honda needs to understand that many with these problems will be purchasing another van in the near future and won't buy a honda due the lack of attention to these matters.

I owned my 2005 honday odyssey for 2.5 years when the power steering pump failed on my minivan. i paid to have it replaced. 29k miles later it failed again. honda has since redesigned the part. when this part fails the power steering is dramatically reduced making it virtually impossible to turn the wheel at slower speeds.

Powering steering on 2005 honda odyssey minivan is extremely hard to steer at lower speeds. there is a serious issue with steering pump as evidenced by service bulletin 07-005. the steering wheel will make whining, buzzing and strange noises and eventually stop functioning. there should be a recall to fix this problem and not just a service bulletin as this is a known and common issue among 05-08 honda odyssey minivans.
12/01/200750100
2005 honda odyssey ex-l - around 50k miles, the power steering was intermittently hard, especially in parking lots. very little assist. around 64k, our mechanic purged the p/s pump of fluid and the problem remained. mechanic replaced our p/s pump which seemed to work initially, but perhaps because the issue was intermittent. problem returned. we now have 104k on the car and live with the issue of hard steering, especially when parking. hard steering means that i need to use both hands to turn the wheel in the parking lot.

2005 honda odyssey has a loud whining noise when the steering wheel is turned in weather temps under 35 degrees, driving more than 15-30 minutes or so. steering while this is happening is slightly more difficult. the local honda dealer says the cost to fix is approx. $210 for out of warranty service. the dealer claims they have redesigned the reservoir, well if it was redesigned then it should be recalled.

Issues with power steering. when driving long distances a loud noise will start emitting from power steering. this has happened on mutiple occassions over last five years. have taken my honda to at least two dealerships about problem. never diagnosed until recently. was told that power steering pump is defective. honda states no longer under warranty. very expensive repair. dealership will not help with cost. contacted honda corporate customer service and was offered no help with cost of repair. will no longer drive my honda any long distances. also have had brake and parking brake issues with this car over past five years.

Steering of honda odyssey (2005 exl)becomes very stiff and makes it very hard to maneuver specially at slow speed and after having driven it for a while. started happening after 40,000 miles just out of warranty and has progressively become stiffer and stiffer. i am worried that it can lead to accidents as it worsen further and starts becoming even stiffer. my wife primarily drives this car and she is started to have a hard time taking turns at slow speed. worried about it - i googled and found lots of other fellow odyssey drivers in the 2005 onwards model experiencing the same problem. some links are attached. http://www.justanswer.com/questions/245w1-after-driving-my-2005-odyssey-the-steering-becomes-very-stiff http://www.carcomplaints.com/honda/odyssey/2006/steering/stiffness_in_steering.shtml http://www.aboutautomobile.com/complaint/2005/honda/odyssey/steering http://www.carcomplaints.com/honda/odyssey/2006/steering/stiffness_in_steering.shtml http://www.aboutautomobile.com/complaint/2005/honda/odyssey/steering http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&ie=utf-8&rlz=1t4gfrc_enus222us222&q=odyssey+2005+steering+is+stiff all honda owners would appreciate if nhtsa can investigate this as honda does not appear to be owning up to this design defect. please note we have not been an accident due to this so far (thank god). thank you. *tr

2005 honda odyssey going on 4th power steering pump. dealer replaced first two, within weeks whinning noise was back. change pump again, once again whinning noise returned. now not only is there a whinning noise but i have occasional stifness in the steering wheel when travel at 50 + mph. van currently has 120,000 mile, pumps replaced at 20,000, 45,000, 70, 000. know of others with same issue. this needs to be recalled. there is obviously an issue with te equipment or design.
02/07/2010410341
My 2005 honda odyssey had a loud whine when turning, after driving the vehicle for about an hour. turning was also sluggish at times. the dealer stated that it was a failed power steering pump and reservoir. the van has an extended warranty and so i was not charged for the replacement. *tr
03/05/2010222001
After approximately a one hour drive on the interstate, the steering got very heavy in the outlet store parking lot. my wife narrowly missed a row of cars at low speed (<5mph) as she pulled in, since she could not turn the wheel as the steering got extremely heavy. afterward, i tried some low speed manuevers and noticed extremely heavy steering. after it cooled off in a few hours, the steering seemed to be more normal. note this steering pump was changed about 1.5yrs ago since it was making alot of noise and vibrating. *tr
12/18/2008364001
Driving in typical city environment and the power steering became non-responsive. honda dealership then replaced the power-steering pump reservoir (this is the 3rd reservoir during the lifetime of the van). original power steering pump reservoir installed at build date, 2nd installed in dec 2006. *tr

My 2005 honda odyssey has a failed power steering pump. the pump creates a loud whine while driving, more notable in colder weather. turning can become sluggish at times. it occurs every time we drive the van. i have a quote to repair the pump for $590 plus tax. i will be bringing it in to get repaired soon. *tr
03/01/2010400001
Honda has known of power steering issues on the 2005-2010 odysseys. my 2005 becomes difficult to turn at times and whines loudly. with the difficulty steering, it is a safety issue. honda service bulletin 07-005 addresses it, and mentions goodwill coverage, but most dealers insist on charging $700 to fix the issue (sometimes repeatedly). a recall should be issued. *tr
02/18/2010360001
2005 honda odyssey ex-l. steering wheel shakes/vibrates really hard at highway speeds. we got new michelin tires, got wheel alignment and balancing and still the problem exists. dealer keeps saying the vibrations are as per honda's specifications, not sure what that means. *tr

2005 honda odyssey - power steering failed. it got very difficult to turn the wheel. it started back in nov.2009 and gradually got worse by january 2010. we took it into the honda dealership and they repaired it for $700-parts replaced. it got so difficult to turn the wheel i pulled a muscle in my chest. *tr

I have a 2005 honda odyssey touring with 100,000 miles on it. i paid about 50% of the cost to replace the power steering pump at around 50-60k miles on the car. right now at 100k miles, i'm currently running on my 3rd set of power steering pump and the pump is acting up on me again after only 10k miles on it. so each pump lasted average of 15,000 miles. and the warranty is too short that whenever my pump goes out, i exceeded my warranty only about 3-4k miles, which honda denies to cover the whole thing. *tr
02/07/201065000
Power steering failure when cold outside. has been occuring for several weeks when outside temerature is below approximately 40f degrees.
01/30/2010340001
I have a 2005 honda odyssey with 34,000 miles on it. the left rear shock is blown and needs replaced. a vehicle with such low mileage should not have a blown shock. the power steering has problems as well. after the van has been running for 15-20 minutes the power steering makes loud noise during turns and when parking, the power steering becomes very difficult to turn. i have contacted honda dealer and they are not willing to cover the costs for either repair since i'm past the 36,000 mile or 3years warranty period. from what i have researched, the steering issue is a big problem. why hasn't this been a recall issue!!!! it's very dangerous to continue having this problem. *tr

Power steering failed in honda odyssey 2005. heard intermittent grinding noises when steering, but noise goes away in warmer temperatures. had problems steering and took it to the honda dealership. cost me $650 to replace power steering pump and reservoir. the car only has 60,000 miles on it. i have never replaced a power steering pump in any car i have ever owned and i have one now that has 175,000 miles on it. this is very dangerous especially if it went out while driving. fortunately mine didn't but i could of had a serious wreck. *tr

Steering system is squealing very loud intermittently and does not operate smoothly which effects driver judgment in operating the vehicle and therefore safety of using the vehicle. *tr
10/06/2009650001
The power steering is making noises which are progressively getting worse. 1) the noises started about 2 months ago and were a result of regular driving around town. 2) the noises used to be intermittent, by now they can be heard all the time. 3) problem has yet to be corrected to date. will be repaired within the next couple of weeks. *tr
11/04/2009580001

I have a 2005 honda odyssey minivan which i purchased brand new in 2005 from the hall honda virginia beach, va in 2005. there have been times that while driving i would hear a whining type of noise. when i took it to the dealership for an oil change they tried to find the noise by test driving it but it did nut duplicate as it is sporadic. now i have taken it to the dealership for a state inspection and during their preventive check they have stated they have found metal shavings in the power steering pump reservoir which is an indication of the power steering pump going bad. it will cost me $700 to replace the pump and the reservoir plus flush and fill it. i have also discovered through my research that there is a known problem with the 2005 honda odyssey having defective power steering pumps and the wining noise is one of the indications of it going bad. please reference this web site www.carcomplaints.com/honda/odyssey/2005/steering/loud_intermittent_whine_when_turning.com there are 16 complaints on this web site noting this problem. i am sure there are many others elsewhere - this is a safety issue as a pump can malfunction while driving causing an accident to happen. why has there not been a recall on this matter? the dealership states the warranty for this item is 3yrs or 36,000 miles. i have called firestone and even the rep there stated that the vehicle is too new for this type of thing to happen, especially in a honda. the noise began approx a year or so ago but honda dealerships could not duplicate it. *tr

Sudden loss of power steering: when engine is at idle speed (as when pulling into a parking place), there is a sudden loss of power steering when trying to turn the wheel quickly (as in trying to avoid an incident). this can have minor to serious consequences depending on what you may be trying to avoid. this seems to be a common problem based on internet postings. *tr

My 2005 honda odyssey has had the buzzing, humming sound on two different occasions. the first time it occurred while under warranty and was taken care of by the dealer. the second time the car had 52000 miles on it and the dealer contacted honda to see if they would cover it. they would not but allowed me a 50% discount on the repair. this should be a bulletin item covered by the company. *tr

According to honda service bulletin 07-005 june 17, 2008 titled power steering pump whines, buzzes, or hums (supersedes 07-005, dated january 26, 2007, to update the information marked by the black bars), symptom the power steering pump whines, buzzes, or hums after driving for 30 minutes in temperatures 35 to 40 degrees f (2 to 5 degrees c). probable cause the power steering pump reservoir is defective correction action: flush the power steering system with clean power steering fluid, and then replace the power steering reservoir. parts information power steering reservoir: p/n 53701-shj-a01c1, h/c 0923672 required materials honda genuine power steering fluid: p/n 08206-9002, h/c 3747284 (four bottles per vehicle are needed) the defective power steering reservoir causes the power steering pump to whine because power steering fluid is not pump out of the reservoir. if power steering fluid is not being pumped out of the reservoir, the power steer fails which could result in loss of steering control. honda acknowledges this problem with the above information and the warranty information but refuses to correct this problem on vehicles out side of the 36000 miles warranty. according honda service bulletin 07-005, this applies to 2005-07 odyssey -all 2008 -from vin 5fnrl38..8b000001 thru 5fnrl38..8b075356 -from vin f5nrl38..8b400001 thru 5fnrl38..8b419525 i asked my local honda dealer (cale yarborough honda 2723 west palmetto street florence sc 29501 843-669-5556) to estimate how much this repair would cost. according to their service manager, the replacement reservoir is $11.50, the power steering fluid is $16.00 and the labor is $170.00. the total cost $197.50. since this defect has been acknowledged by honda and may results in loss of steering control and an accident, honda should recall this part and pay for it to be repaired on vehicles with this problem. *tr

I recently turned the vehicle from one side to the other quickly. the steering seemed to fail (got very hard) then recovered after a few seconds. i took the car in for warranty service with a few other problems at west hills honda in bremerton, wa. they took care of one problem, but couldn't adjust the misaligned glove box and most disconcerting of all, could not fix the steering problem. they actually did replicate the same problem i had. they said they also replicated it on other odyssey's. they called honda engineers and were told that the power steering pump could not keep up with the demand, but it is normal and there is no fix necessary! *tr
