One owner of a 2005 honda odyssey. vehicle used to drive back and forth to work, general errands, occasional drive out of town. within the past couple of months, my wife noticed severe shaking of steering wheel when accelerating at 65 mph. vehicle taken to shop, had vehicle inspected: usual tire rotation, alignment, balancing performed; however problem persisted, and replaced two new tires. took vehicle back to same shop, alignment and balancing re-done; however, problem persisted. took vehicle to different shop--purchased 4 new tires, and had alignment and balancing performed once again; however, problem persisted. had tires replaced and alignment and balancing performed yet again; however, problem persists. advised by shop manager that he is 95% sure based on driving test that motor mounts are in need of replacement. it is my opinion that the motor mounts are prematurely failing, and thus deemed to be faulty, and that they should be replaced by honda a their expense. too many other honda odyssey owners with same issue, and expensive repairs. *tr

Big o euro tire tire tracking with longitudinal road contour changes causing the front of the vehicle to shift right or left. big o rep said it was an alignment issue. after alignment the tracking was only more pronounced. while passing a vehicle the tracking almost pulled my car into vehicle i was passing. *tr

2005 honda odyssey noise in the front of the vehicle and shaking in steering wheel. consumer states that the dealer stated the wheel bearings needed to be replaced. even after the replacement the problem persisted. *kb the consumer was informed the problem he was experiencing with the shaking was due to a inoperative catalytic converter. it was replaced, however the noise and shaking continued. the vehicle had run flat tires, so if the tires became flat the consumer could drive up to 50 miles, however when the consumer experienced a flat, the vehicle would not move. the consumer was informed the tire was defective. the engine light illuminated. the consumer was told the vehicle needed another catalytic converter. when the consumer picked the vehicle up, the engine light was still on.*jb

I purchased a new 2005 honda odyssey exl-res on 7/21/05 and i've had a consistent problem ever since. from the first day i picked up the vehicle from clinton honda's parking lot i immediately experienced excessive steering wheel vibration. it was horrible and started at 65 mph and continued to 75 mph. i took the vehicle back to the dealership the very next day and they diagnosed the problem as out of balanced wheels -- each wheel was off by 30 grams. that same day i took the vehicle home and experienced the same problem again. i immediately returned to the dealership and asked to speak with the service manager. the service manager said the wheels zeroed out and he didn't feel there was anything else he could do. i insisted that he repair the problem so he told me to come back a week later after he sent a mechanic out for training on their hunter wheel balancing machine. i returned a week later and this time they road-forced balanced the tires and found them to be 10 grams off each side. they also found a service bulletin on the issue which suggested a toe adjustment -- which they performed. i left the dealership again expecting the problem to be resolved but it wasn't. instead, i now have an additional problem where the vehicle pulls excessively to the left and right depending on the curvature of the road --whereas before it would keep its intended course. i went back to the dealership again -- this time to speak with my sales person and the sales manager. the sales person accompanied me for a test drive to witness the problem. he noticed the problem as i did so he suggested that we test drive another odyssey to see if the problem is systematic. we drove a gold color odyssey (both him and i) and that vehicle did not exhibit the problem. also, i mentioned to the sales person that the sliver demo i initially drove did not have this problem either. *nm

We experienced significant swayiing while driving our honda odyssey 2005 with 4 other adults and 2 kids in our vehicle. we were in fairly normal weather conditions, no significant winds or icy roads but just trying to drive our vehicle we had too many difficulties to continue. we felt particularly unsafe and unsafe for other drivers on the road. we ended up having to cancel our trip as we were swerving and unable to control the sway of the van when reaching speeds of 55-60 mph. we were unsafe to manuver on the highways and upon a check up we found out our right strut was completely blown out, and the left one also had to be replaced (on the front of the vehicle/van). we had the repairs done at river city tire, davenport, ia andit was a significant finding that they also said was very dangerous to be driving.

Shimmy in front end when applying brakes on downhill. honda advised: caused by brake wearing. honda replaced front brakes and resurfaced rotors , 32,310 miles. now, 14,000 miles later, shimmy occurring on downhills when applying brakes. this is very unsafe especially to older or inexperienced drivers. i have been driving for over 55 years; i'm 74 years old...and i do know cars and engines, and have not had a vehicle with a shimmy since i was a kid! first occurred june 07 and started again 828/08..yesterday. *tr

When purchased new off the lot, experienced substantial pull to the right. drove 500 miles and returned to dealer for service. was told they needed to install camber bolts then align suspension (they reduced tire pressure in all four tires by ten pounds). problem was not abated. after 5000 road trip, returned to dealer to align again(again reducing tire pressure). six months later was still experiencing pull, but now accompanied by progressively worsening vibration. dealer rotated and cross switched tires (once again reducing tire pressure). problem seemed solved. midway though next 5000 mile road trip vibration and pull started to recur, growing progressively worse as trip was concluded. now at 26000 miles both front tires have substantial wear and need to be replaced and the car once more needs to be aligned. *jb

Dt*: the contact stated while the brake pedal was depressed, there was a growl and intermittent vibration. the dealership alerted the contact that the manufacturer is trying to design a better brake pad. there is also a heavy vibration while the economy load light is illuminated. the dealership has replaced the engine mounts, rotated and balanced the tires, but the problem persists.

Dt*: the contact stated while making u-turns, at 5 mph, a noise was heard coming from underneath the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the brake clip on the passenger front was replaced. the noise persisted and the dealer replaced the steering pump on a second visit. the replacement of the steering pump did not remedy the problem and the vehicle has not been returned to the dealer for further inspection. the driver side door did not close properly, the right side door seal was broke. updated 05/23/06. *jb

I purchased my 2005 honda odyssey new in november 2004, the car currently has 43,000 miles on it and after my oil change today i was informed that the front struts were leaking badly. i have owned several cars and struts normally give way after 80 - 100 k miles. someone could end up in a serious accident if it required immediate stopping or conering. *jb

I have a 2005 honda odyssey with 34,000 miles on it. the left rear shock is blown and needs replaced. a vehicle with such low mileage should not have a blown shock. the power steering has problems as well. after the van has been running for 15-20 minutes the power steering makes loud noise during turns and when parking, the power steering becomes very difficult to turn. i have contacted honda dealer and they are not willing to cover the costs for either repair since i'm past the 36,000 mile or 3years warranty period. from what i have researched, the steering issue is a big problem. why hasn't this been a recall issue!!!! it's very dangerous to continue having this problem. *tr
