Power sliding door on 05' honda odyssey fell off when unloading my children from the vehicle. the middle bracket/strut that holds the sliding door on the center rail along the side of the van totally failed. i was at the bus stop with my children and the door fell off as i opened the door to help my child out. i was mortified as you might imagine. two men came to my rescue just after my son jumped out of the way. the door has concerned me for some time but i never heard of a sliding door falling off nor did the dealer mention it. previously, the door would click when we closed it and the automatic door would beep and fail to close. we had the door checked during a routine service appointment 2-3 years ago. the dealer said it was a sensor or possibly a motor issue. no one said anything about the door possibly falling off - nor did they mention any potential bracket failure. i would have had that bracket fixed had they even hinted that this could happen. but what's also very disturbing is that a friend with an '07 is having significant problems with her doors as well. after my incident, she immediately went and had her door brackets checked and found hers were also imminently close to complete failure. they were replaced. she has special needs children and a door failure for her could be catastrophic. the day of this event i called two area dealers. both service counter reps acknowledged this bracket issue. parents really need to be warned about this. i fear honda corporate may be ignoring the issue when children may be hurt. this isn't a starter or a transmission - it's a door. please investigate the issue and at least issue a safety bulletin or recall.

Had to replace 3 engine mounts in 2 months after 80,000 miles - van is used for suburban driving

While on vacation, the electric sliding door on the passenger side failed in such a way that the door could not be opened more than a few inches. we were still able to close the door and safely drive the vehicle. there was no way to manually override the electric opening mechanism where it was stuck, so the door could not be used. several months later, the driver side sliding door also failed. in this case, the door was stuck half open and could not be moved either to fully open it or close it. the door was stuck open until we could get the vehicle to the dealer for repair. this is a safety issue. the electrically operated doors should be designed in such a way that allows easy manual operation of the doors in the event of a failure of the electric motor and opening mechanism.

I was returning home and after driving on the freeway for approximately 45 minutes of driving at approximately 65 mph i heard a pop under the hood of my van and began to see smoke. i was unable to accelerate and had to turn on my hazard lights and pull off the freeway at the next exit. upon taking my vehicle to my mechanic, i was told my transmission had failed. *tr

Broken motor mounts, it seems to be a widespread and an expensive problem.

The support struts for the tailgate failed. the door came crashing down on mother and daughter. mother pushed daughter out of way but the door caught the mother on the right arm. upper arm received a deep bruise 1 inch in diameter. the door worked well prior to this. there had been no warning like slow to lift or hard to lift open (or to close).

The driver side rear sliding door stuck closed. son could not get out. panicked state because he went back to get something from van and closed the door while he looked for it. could not get out as door was stuck. he tried to open several times, but no use. door will not open manually or automatically. this could have been a bigger problem if it were summer here in phoenix arizona as the temperature could have been 115 degrees or higher outside making the temperature at least 20-30 degrees hotter inside. luckily the outside temperature was in the 80's in the phoenix area today. we visit our relatives in arizona at least once every year and cannot afford to have door issues on our almost 3,000 mile round trip. we have 2 children and for safety reasons cannot have our doors fail to close or open properly for any reason, at any time!

I have a 2005 honda odyssey ex 3.5l vtec with less than 46k miles on it... when i took to the dealership for 15k mile service today, they noticed that my front engine mount had broken and told me to get it replaced right away and they said it would cost me $500 (labor and parts). this has never happened to me on any of my other cars and i think this is a serious design flaw by honda. when i searched online, i found several people with the same complaints and many of them had the rear and side mounts broken too which costs even more to fix... honda needs to acknowledge this as an engineering design issue and recall the vans and get them fixed for free.

The consumer is experiencing problems with the transmission. when the vehicle is going 45 mph or greater the rpm's drops down to about 1400 rpm's. when shifting into over drive. the engine begins to vibrates and will continue up to 55 mph. when accelerating above 55 mph the problem disappears. owner has taken the vehicle to the dealer and has also contacted the manufacturer. neither has a solution to this problem. provide further details.

Both tailgate struts 74820-shj-a01 failed simultaneously causing the gate to close while occupants were under the gate. not sure yet if anyone is injured. honda infromed me that my model was not one of the affected models, therefore i am not covered by a recall. this is a dangerous situation

Sliding doors do not latch completely. they close but a few seconds later open again with light showing they are open. doors have come open while driving with children in back, even when they were supposed to be locked. this is a huge safety issue despite children being secured in a seatbelt.

We own a 2005 honda odyssey, which was purchased in july of 2005. we started having problems with it in april of 2008. first the catalytic converter went out, then there was an oil consumption problem. we had many oil changes at the dealership and faithfully changed the oil when the computer in the car told us to. but then, it would dump two quarts of oil without any notice. for instance, on may 23rd, 2010, we had a oil changed at the honda dealer we had purchased the vehicle from, in anticipation of a 400 mile trip. the car started acting up on our way there and we ended up spending the majority of june 14th sitting in a dealership. we left the dealership and almost made it home before the car started acting up again. we limped into the driveway, but it required towing to the honda dealer in santa cruz, ca for more repairs. they accused us of not maintaining the car because it was two quarts low, yet we checked the oil before it was towed to the dealership and it was full in our driveway. the dealer said it was because we checked the oil while it was off. it wasn't even driven in between until the dealer did diagnostic on it. then they told us all cars need a value adjustment at 80,000 miles. we have spoken repeatedly with honda of america and honda care and they have repeatedly acted surprise with our problems. they deny that they know or suspect that there is a problem, yet a search on the internet reveals many pages of complaints about several models of honda cars with oil consumption problems.

Odyssey had great vibration through steering wheel and through body of car. vibration varied depending on speed. this could of caused a tragic accident. diagnosis was failure of rear and side motor mounts for the second time in 20 months. poor design of these mounts fail prematurely and cause vibration and handling errors which could have tragic consequences.

We have a 2005 honda odyssey w/less than 65k miles on it and just had to replace both the rear and side motor mounts. the repair bill was $1041.65 plus the labor to diagnose this issue both by leith and bayleaf. the cracked rear motor mount noticed by leith honda on capital rd. in raleigh, nc. they quoted close to $900 for just the rear motor mount replacement, and they said that the other motor mounts could be broken but that they would have to take the motor out to see. we had bayleaf tire and auto repair repair it because they were recommended to us and their quote was lower. they found that the side motor mount was broken as well. chris of bayleaf said that they have had odysseys around the same model year come in for the same issue and had called honda to tell them about the issue. i have seen plenty of evidence online that this is a design flaw in the motor mounts related to the eco mode (dropping from 4 to 3 cylinders to save fuel) being instituted in the odysseys in the mid-2000's without a corresponding change to the design of the motor mounts which could not handle the additional vibration. here are just a few of the many others complaining about the same issue: http://www.google.com/search?q=honda+engine+mount+design+flaw http://grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/off-topic-discussion/honda-odyssey-engine-mounts/30508/page1/ http://action.publicbroadcasting.net/cartalk/posts/list/1560611.page our car may have not set on fire like a rear-ended pinto, but there is no telling what additional damage has occurred that we'll have to pay for in the future because of this apparent design flaw. honda should recall all motor mounts with this flaw and should compensate owners for repairs related to the apparent motor mount design flaw in the odyssey.

We experienced significant swayiing while driving our honda odyssey 2005 with 4 other adults and 2 kids in our vehicle. we were in fairly normal weather conditions, no significant winds or icy roads but just trying to drive our vehicle we had too many difficulties to continue. we felt particularly unsafe and unsafe for other drivers on the road. we ended up having to cancel our trip as we were swerving and unable to control the sway of the van when reaching speeds of 55-60 mph. we were unsafe to manuver on the highways and upon a check up we found out our right strut was completely blown out, and the left one also had to be replaced (on the front of the vehicle/van). we had the repairs done at river city tire, davenport, ia andit was a significant finding that they also said was very dangerous to be driving.

The a/c condenser has been replaced twice due to it being punctured from every day wear and tear. after the most recent incident, the dealership installed a protective shield over the unit to protect it from further damage. i feel this was an engineering flaw and would like to be reimbursed the $678.81 that i have spent having these condensers replaced.

I own a 2005 honda odessey. sept 2009 my ac abruptly stopped working (blowing cold air) i took it to the dealership. i also have an extended warranty on the car. the dealer told me it was a fluke, chance happening that a rock must have entered my condenser through the front grill and caused a hole in the condenser. they said it was not covered under warranty and it would cost approx $800 to repair because the condenser has to be replaced. i then paid to have it repaired only to have the problem happen again on 8/21/10. not even a year later. i do not drive on dirt roads and avoid construction. this time i searched the internet for similar stories. i found thousands of threads of others with honda odesseys complaining of the same problem. i feel it is a manufacturer's design defect that allows rocks or other such items to penetrate the condenser. this is a very expensive repair. there are aftermarket grills to be placed on the front of the car to eliminate the problem which is yet an additional expense and changes the look of the front of the car. i think a recall is in order to fix this problem.

The wireless headphones do not work for the dvd player. there is only a hissing white noise. i know many odyssey owners who have this exact same problem.

Left (driver's side) sliding door on honda odyssey will not close or lock. had to drive to the dealer with the door constantly opening and my children inside the car. my friend sat on the back seat to try to keep the door closed. i do think this is a safety issue since this happened out of the blue without any warning at all. the dealer said that honda does not see it as a safety issue. i see the door property closing as a safety issue since it is a family car with children involved. i see it as a safety issue just like i see seat belts as a safety issue. i think there is something wrong with this problem, it is unsafe.

We were driving in our 2005 honda odyssey, and noticed something knocking. it also sounded like someone had their window down. we pulled over to look at the vehicle. our newborn started to cry, so my husband went to open the driver's side sliding door. upon pully the handle, the whole door fell back off the van. we were told the plastic rollers were defective. they cracked when we hit a pot hole and let the door slide off the track. then the pins that are supposed to stop the door from going off the track failed. honda said it's not covered under warranty, and they have not received enough complaints to warrant looking into the safety of this vehicle.

Vibration and shuttering getting worse over time became so bad it was difficult to control car. dealer said 3 of 4 engine mounts were bad. this is 2005 honda odyssey minivan. *tr
