My car's starter broke and the mechanic then told me that the engine mounts in the front and rear were broken and needed replacing. in doing an online search, i discovered that this is a common and nagging problem with odyssey owners. i have owned 6 cars and never heard of such a thing! thankfully the problem is being fixed before it caused an accident. is there a recall or planned recall for this problem? my extended warranty expired 2,000 miles ago. thank you

My odyssey lost power/wouldnt accelerate/wouldnt shift as we approached the top of a 7% grade. we pulled over, shut the car off and checked fluids etc.. everything was fine. we tried to get going again and the van wouldnt go. we sat for about an hour and tried again, and the van got going again perfectly fine. we were able to get to honda when it broke down again. honda diagnosed it wwith a bad transmission/torque converter. the atf fluid was burnt (my odyssey has the atf fluid cooler too). the tech said the vcm (eco mode, variable cylinder management) increases the load/stress on the vehicle and is a contriuting factor of the break down. my odyssey has been meticulosly maintained at honda y honda specs/recommendations. i had no previous indication my trans was going out (no gear slipping anything. it drove fine up until it broke down) i called american honda for assistance in the repair, and they failed to even offer any sort of help. from what ive googled, honda odysseys have common trans/torque converter issues and american honda is well aware of the problems on the odysseys. after this, i will not buy another honda.

Loud noise from engine compartment during a turn. repair shop said the passenger side engine mount has nearly failed and the others will need to be replaced soon. it makes no sense for such a part to fail at 65k miles - this issue should be grounds for a recall. *tr

Have had intermittent vibration coming from engine compartment. primarily occurs at any speed when the vcm or eco mode activates. not sure what other issues this may cause but seems unsafe. honda dealer diagnosed issue as a broken rear engine mount. cost to repair is $866. *tr

Travelling on vaction on freeway at 100km ( 60 mph ) when my transmission went on my honda odyssey. smoke from under hood, engine started to rev up and tacometer reved up bascially enough function to pull over to the side of freeway. we had towed to honda where i was informed that my vehicle that i havent even owned for 5yrs at the time and only 120000km (75000miles) that the transmission was gone and would cost me $5000 to repair. we had our van towed back to our local dealer (2hrs away and across us boarder back to canada) where they charged us $3700 do to us keeping up with all services. after all cost to have returned home and our family of six returned home i paid $4500 out of my pocket on a vehicle im still making $600 a month payments on. unaccceptable. *tr

I am writing with regards to my 2006 honda odyssey. took it to the dealer for a recall related issue with my brakes and while fixing it, they noticed that the vehicle had issues with rear engine mount. dealer told me my rear engine mount is broken and that's why my vehicle vibrates and that will eventually lead to failure with power steering, a/c, engine, transmission...etc. since the vehicle can come to a halt in the middle of driving if left unattended, i think this is a serious safety concern with any honda minivan's and wanted to bring this to your attention. i started reading about this on the internet and looks like lots of people have the same issue with their engine mounts (both front & rear) with odyssey's especially from 2005 - 2009. i would imagine honda is well aware of this issue and they did nothing to fix the problem in the first place. filed a formal complaint with honda and it went nowhere and i was told since my vehicle is out of warranty (5 years or 60000 miles which ever comes first) there is nothing they can do to help me with it. i paid 711$ to fix the issue, which should have never been the case had honda taken some responsibility to fix it in the first place. whats really annoying is a broken engine part with just 48000 miles on it? i just hope this does not lead to any loss of life. please consider this as a top priority issue and do the needful to address it. thank you! *tr

We have been told that there are 3 cracked engine mounts on the car. we have been told that this is typical on the honda odyssey. we were also told by the dealer that the cost to replace is about $1,000 each. the car is only 6 years old and driven by a soccer mom. *tr

Front motor mount is torn and recommend replacing for $951.28 + tax; side motor mount is leaking and recommend replacing for $238.88 + tax. this van is used mainly for driving my kids to school and activities. no heavy towing nor hard driving. i was told that it's a common problem with honda odyssey, but at this time honda corporation has not addressed it. my van really makes noise and rattles when accelerating and i'm concerned that it is a safety issue if the engine is not secured properly. *tr

I am the original owner of this 2006 honda odyssey. the rear and side engine mounts have failed, at 72,000 miles. this is a manufacturer's defect. the engine mounts should not fail at this mileage. i had noticed a rumbling noise at lower speeds when the engine was running in eco mode, and it appears that this noise was a result of the failure of the engine mounts. it is a defect that if not repaired would result in the engine falling out of the vehicle, clearly a defect. honda needs to take action to replace the faulty engine mounts and correct this defect in design in future models.

I took my car in for an oil change and they advised me that my front engine motor mount has gone bad. i have not gotten it replaced however they are charging my $800.00 for it. after reading thousands of complaints online it seems that honda 2005's and above are having issues with them breaking more often then what they should be since the actual unit is tucked up right near the exhaust manifold and the rubber wears out quickly. i have never ever experienced a car where you had to replace the mount under 100k miles. *tr

Driving on 2 lane highway with my 3 kids in the van. the battery light comes on and i hear a few brief clunks from engine area. then i realize i have no power steering so i stop quickly at a safe spot. i look at the engine and see the accessory belt that drives power steering pump, alternator, and a/c is loose. i see that the outer ring on the crankshaft pulley is missing and only see rubber on its outside. it's over 100 deg.f outside and we're 10 miles from anything. i call a few towing companies and find one that can show up within an hour. we wait and also get a hold of a friend to pick us up after the tow truck shows up. they tow it to our local honda dealer. the dealer replaces the crankshaft pulley and drive belt. towing was $153.40 and repair at dealer was $349.56. losing power steering on narrow two lane highway going 55 mph is unsafe and the crankshaft pulley should not fail even at 111k miles. i have owned the van since new and have all proper maintenance done (preventatively replaced accessory belt before and timing belt and water pump).

2006 honda odyssey exl (69,659 miles) - broken rear motor mount, special design motor mount ($556.43 for part and $685.21 installed). unusual and very expensive repair for a car with relatively low mileage. have not had to replace motor mount on any car since the 1970s. car has always been serviced by honda dealer and no prior indication of any problems when under warranty. deep rumbling noise, similar to a hole in an exhaust pipe, from front engine area was only symptom. based on reports on internet, broken motor mounts are a very common and expensive problem with honda odysseys (and accords). this is the fifth honda and the third honda odyssey that we have owned and have never had any major problems until now. had i been aware of this motor mount problem i probably would have bought a toyota van. despite the unwarranted bad rap that toyota suffered recently for acceleration problems that are just as common in general motors cars, i have not had any problems with the four toyotas we have owned, and toyota did far more than they probably had to to address the alleged problem. my next car will not be a honda.

My 2006 honda odyssy minivan has had all 4 motor mounts fail; i am informed that his could result in in a hazardous condition, including a transmission failure while driving. honda has offered no explanation as to why this would happen to my car, which had approximately 92,000 miles on it at the time of detection.

Motor mounts on honda odyssey are defective in design, resulting in frequent, expensive replacement. before the mounts die, they allow the motor to jerk against the transmission, and could result in dangerous failure at highway speed.
09/14/201080000
2006 honda odyssey excessive vibration from engine when at idle and especially when eco mode engaged or during slow acceleration. honda dealer states the cause to be a broken motor mount which is a special design and costs over $500 - $600. the van has only 80000 miles but that puts it past warranty. see honda service bulletin tsb 06-083 for a more detailed report from honda. the reason i bring this to you is the many web sight blogs with similar issues and honda's unwillingness to help with costs and or replacements. this could become a serious safety issue if someone can't afford to replace them and if the mounts design is at fault, simple replacement will only result in future failures. if this issue is allowed to persist for too long the other mounts begin to fail and the motor dropping out becomes a real possibility. this should be a recall by honda and a redesign of the mount should be investigated.

2006 honda odyssey bought used w/ approx 61000 miles and 60000 mile extended warrenty, purchased last week of july 2010, breakdown 10/6/2010. had shake while driving and was serviced, found to have problem with transmission, transmission fluid changed and problem resolved. car was driven part way across country, 1200 miles, in the next 10 days, all highway miles. 20 minutes after stopping for lunch, while cruising on highway @ 70 mph, car had intermittent clicking noise coming from driver's side engine compartment. no warning lights were on @ this time and temp reading was normal. my husband took car off cruise control, noise stopped, he attempted to pass another vehicle, car lost all acceleration, check engine light blinked a couple times, he slowed, started safely moving to shoulder, clicking started, check engine light came on solid, temp guage spiked to red, caron shoulder, no power. from first clicking noise to engine failure and first warning light was approx 1 minute. dealer found car to have cracked engine, melted radiator, blown head gasket, no coolant or oil in engine. no original source for breakdown could be found even after complete engine teardown. head gasket was not cause of breakdown. no oil leak, had oil change @ dealer prior to our purchase of vehicle, not yet due for routine service, oil life indicator gave 50% oil life 20 miles prior to breakdown. honda notified and not concerned. warrenty co denied claim b/c no cause of failure found. dealership that sold car is paying for new engine, radiator and any other repairs and will continue to seek reimbursement from warrenty co. search of honda forums (edmunds.com) found many problems w/ oil consumption on 2005-2010 honda odysseys.

My wife left work and drove home, approximately 2miles, and advised she smelled/saw smoke coming from the rear of the vehicle. she exited the vehicle and advise the vehicle was on fire. fire department responded and put out the fire, however the vehicle was a total loss. local fire inspector investigated and advise the source of ignition was in the right rear of the vehicle in the area of the rear a/c unit and pbc. i contacted the manufacturer's customer service and they responded that if your insurance company does not subrogate, there is nothing they can do. the recent service on the vehicle was an oil change and new tires approximately one month prior. *tr

2006 honda odyssey vehicle was smoking upon arriving at destination. the smoke was coming from the right front of van, odor present. two days later, air conditioning was not working. took van to dealership. they said that a rock must have hit the condenser. they said this is not covered by my 60,000 mile honda care warranty because it wasn't mechanical. there are plenty of complaints about this, even the dealer said this is very common with the odyssey. sounds like a design flaw & a recall is due. *tr

Apparently, i am one in a long line of folks filing a complaint against honda for a design defect concerning their air conditioning condenser. they seem to be very prone to damage from road debris - within the first few weeks to few years of the car life, and honda will not honor this defect under warranty, and numerous insurance claims for this defect have been denied as well. i was given the same exact story by my dealer that i have now learned is the same story all honda dealers have been peddling for the past 3 years on this specific topic. honda has since fixed the problem in their 2008 vehicles by adding a shield to the condenser to protect it, but they will not honor any damage done to prior year vehicles. the dealers response to me was to replace the condenser for $642, and then i was told i may want to purchase, at my own expense, a non-oem shield to protect the new condenser so it won't happen again. something seems amiss here, especially since i am not the only person this is happening too. *tr

2006 honda odyssey. air conditioning condenser damaged by road debris and required replacing the condenser. dealer stated damage was caused by road hazard/debris and so was not covered by warranty. the condenser is very exposed on front bottom of vehicle with no protection from flying debris. similar event has occurred to many owners of 2006 odysseys. honda should be held liable/responsible to provide a product to protect the condenser on this model. the 2008 odyssey comes with a grill covering the condenser. so it is obvious they are aware of the old bad design. *tr

I have had my 2006 honda odyssey for one year when the air conditioner went out. the dealer determined the refrigerant leaked out due to a small hole in the condenser coil. the hole came from a small rock or other object that was kicked up while driving. the problem is that the coil is up front, below the front license plate, and fully exposed to road hazards. the design defect has caused problems for hundreds of others according to the information on various web sites. the dealer advised it will cost $700 to repair and is not covered under warranty. they suggested i contact my insurance company. i filed a complaint with american honda (case# n012007-08-2400679) but have not heard back from them. the dealers service manager claims to have called american honda as well and was told it was not covered. *tr

Rock popped up and punctured the a/c condenssor which resulted in the a/c going out due to freon leaking out. this is a very common problem on the odessey and honda should be held responsible in correcting the defect. i have to have the compressor replaced and recharged which will cost 700.00. i have the part ordered but have to go without air for a week until it comes in and i live in florida so it is not fun having kids and no air this time of year.

An object, most likely road debris like rocks or pebbles, impacted the a/c condenser causing the a/c to leak rendering the system inoperable. due to honda's design of the front bumper, the a/c condenser is completely exposed to debris. in order to fix the problem the condenser must be replaced which would cost an estimated bill of close to $1000 in parts and labor. even after the fix, the condenser still remains exposed and the likelihood of this event happening again remains high due to the design of the front bumper. this problem was obviously fixed by honda in the 2008 year by installing a honeycomb type grille to cover this area to reduce the chance of debris impacting the condenser. *tr

I bought a new 2006 honda odyssey ex rear dvd and navigation van. a few days back (at 26,000miles and less than 3yrs), there was smoke coming from the engine of the car... i quickly pulled over called the dublin honda, ca dealer. they advised me to tow the car to the dealership. after i that i was advised that the a/c condenser has a hair-pin size hole (not visible to naked eye) and that's the problem. they told me that this is not covered by honda bumper to bumper warranty.. i was shocked to hear that. i had to pay $880.76 for this repair for a $40,000.00 van which is still under factory warranty.... this is ridiculous.. honda put the condenser at the wrong place (without a front guard) and make its customers pay for its ridiculous design.. in the new models now they have put a guard to protect the condenser. i urge you to fine honda for this and have them issue a recall on their faulty design of which thousands have been victim. *tr

I have a newer 2006 honda odyssey minivan with only 6000 miles. the air conditioner no longer works (blows warm air). was told that a rock hit the condenser unit - and it is not covered under warranty. searching around the internet, i find that hundreds and hundreds of other 2005-2007 honda odyssey owners have come across the same problem. the problem is that the ac condenser coils are exposed under the front grill. any little rock or debris can/will puncture the ac lines - causing the refrigerant to leak. this is a common problem and it's costing us $700+ dollars to fix. honda must realize that this is a problem with the 2005-2007 odysseys since they now include a grill guard on the 2008 model. honda should retro fit the 2005-2007 odyssey will some grill protection screen to prevent this from happening. this is a design flaw that should be addressed. we, as owners of a new minivan, shouldn't have to pay another $700+ to have the air conditioner fixed when we've only driven the van for as short as 4000 miles. honda can remedy this with a very simple fix. *tr

I own a 2006 honda odyssey ex-l. on wednesday june 20, 2007 i noticed that my air conditioner was no longer putting out cold air. i also noticed at this time that my temp gauge was over to the hot line. i immediately shut off my engine and let it cool. once i restarted it immediately went back to the hot position. once i made it home i shut off the engine and noticed that the fan continued to run and the car was emitting a burning rubbery smell. i called the honda dealership and told them about this. i asked about this being covered under warranty and the technician stated that if for some reason there was a rock in there that my warranty would not cover it but i had no concern because i thought this was rare. it was towed to the honda dealership and they called me the next morning stating that there were rocks in my radiator and that my warranty would not cover it and it was going to cost me over $700 to get it fixed. i did some research and talked with honda again and they said that they see this alot. they showed me my radiator and three rocks that they pulled out of it saying that these are what caused my problem. they asked if they could fix the radiator while they had the parts in stock and i said yes knowing that i need my car asap. i later called the dealership again to question the incident with the rocks because i talked with another mechanic and he said that this should not happened that easily. they still have the old radiator. the level of courtesy and customer service that i have received from honda has dramatically dropped since i have been investigating this issue. this morning, sunday july 1, 2007 i decided to do some internet research on honda odyssey's and this rock problem and i was amazed and appalled at how much this happens and how much honda has just ignored this design flaw. i feel that a design flaw allowing your engine to overheat can put you at risk for a major engine fire and possibly death and honda has chosen to ignore this. *tr

I have owned my honda odyssey minivan for a little over a year. the ac wasn't working, and i have been told that a rock or pebble must have hit the condenser causing a puncture. the part alone is $790, and honda is refusing to cover under warranty. there are multiple complaints regarding this issue from other owners as the condenser lies low to the ground. honda is covering some people's costs, but not others. i feel this is likely a manufacturer defect that needs to be fixed, and covered under warranty. there is currently no grille or protection for the condenser. *tr

I have a 2006 honda odyssey ex-l with fewer than 15k miles on it. i t took it to the deal because antifreeze was leaking out of it. the dealer informed me that the antifreeze was leaking out of my radiator. the dealer attributed this to a stone hitting the radiator and causing the leak. this seems to be a design flaw in the 2006 odyssey. this could have been a lot worse as i was able to safely pull off of the road. had this happened at highway speed, the engine could have seize due to lack of coolant and i could have lost control of the vehicle causing a serious wreck and possible injury to me, my passengers or others. i recommend that the nhtsa take action on behalf of all consumers who own this vehicle to force a recall from honda to fix this issue. *tr

A/c problem 6 months after purchase. we purchased a new 2006 honda odyssey in june 2006, and in december we started having a/c problems. it was diagnosed as having a hole in the a/c condensor which the honda dealer stated to be caused by a rock. the van had less than 11,000 miles on it, and we purchased an extended warranty when we bought the van. surely, the original warranty or the extended warranty should cover such a problem, but honda said no. being only 6 months old, we find it very frustrating to have to pay for something like this when it appears to be a design flaw by honda. the a/c condensor is just sitting there exposed to all the elements of the road with no grill in front of it. the american honda rep agreed to pay half as a good will gesture. it still cost us $275 for the repair. lots of others are having the same issue with honda odesseys as seen on the internet. honda should be forced to recall these vehicles and install a screen in front of the condensor to protect it, and should be forced to reimburse everyone any money spent to correct this problem.

I went in to a huggins honda, a local dealer in hurst, tx to service a recalled brake master cylinder replacement in my 2006 odyssey exl with 80,000 miles, while at the van was at the dealership, the service manager called me to notify me that they noticed that two motor mounts also need to be replaced. the front and side motor mount can be replaced for about $1220 and $216 + tax respectively. he inidcated that this is very common on honda odyssey vans and not part of a recall or regular maintenance. i asked if it was very common in honda vans and not part of normal maintenance, why is it not fix for free since it seem uncommon for motor mount to go bad that early in the vehicle's life? he indicated that he did not have the authority to fix it free on the vehicle but wanted to let me know that it does need to be fixed. i did a search on the internet and found that pre-mature motor mount failer is a common issue with honda odyssey vans dating back to early 2000 models. if this is a common issue, why did honda not address the issue with the newer models and why not fix the issue for odyssey owners? i think that honda should fix the issue with current owners and address the issue with newer models.

Our 2006 honda odyssey experienced a loss of engine power while my wife was driving home from work. she managed to make it home, but between the power loss and the noise starting to come from under the hood, she was nervous. we had the vehicle towed to a gentile honda in racine wi. they reported that the spark plug was pulled out of the cylinder head when the coil-pack popped. i believe the cause of the problem was a material failure in the cylinder head which caused the spark plug threads to fail, which resulted in the coil-pack shorting to ground on the head, and causing an over-current condition through the coil which caused the coil-pack to explode. gentile honda wants to do a machinist repair on the cylinder head while it's still on the engine ($730.42). north american honda wants to replace the cylinder with some monetary assistance for a total of $1500. no action has been taken at this time to correct the issue. i feel this is a material defect caused by honda's part vendor. gentile honda claims the coil-pack pulled the plug out of the aluminum head. i cannot understand how this could happen as the tensile/shear strength of the plastic coil-pack is far less than the tensile/shear strength of the aluminum alloy head. the atomized fuel being added to the cylinder while the engine was running could have resulted in an engine compartment fire by being ignited as it was blown out of the combustion chamber through the spark plug hole.

My husband and i purchased a brand new odyssey van in june 2006. absolutely love the van. we have had no problems until we realized our air conditioner wasn't working recently in may 2008. our van only has 24,000 miles on it. i called fairfield performance honda service and was told if it is a rock that damaged the condenser it is not covered. i said a rock and she replied yes rocks can damage the condenser. my husband and i never heard such thing. without honda even looking at my van they already knew exactly what was wrong. so that day i got a phone call from service and sure enough they said a rock has damaged your condenser and it would not be covered because that is consider road debris and it will cost you 800.00. the service person said they see this every week and then he said i mean once a month so i was curious and got on the internet to see if anybody else have had the same problem and sure enough hundreds complaints with the same problem. i contacted honda america corp and they said sorry it is not covered because it is road debris damage. it?s not my fault and thousands of other consumers fault that they poorly designed the honda odysseys and honda accords. i noticed on the new 2008 vans and cars they have a protection on the front now. but that?s not fair for all the people who have purchased a van or car 2007 or earlier. i think that they should have a recall on this matter and fix the problem. i didn't pay $30,000.00 for a van to have this problem. they need to put some kind of protection on the van so it doesn't happen again. i just want to let all other consumers beware of this so they don?t make the same mistake we did. i am contacting the consumer report, better business bureau all news media and papers until this problem is taking care of. thank you, lisa *tr

I was advised when i first had the oil changed (6/06) in my 2006 honda odyssey (purchased 10/05) that there was apparently an oil leak from the engine. i then took the van to the honda dealer in springfield, il. where i purchased it, and i was told the problem was with the oil pan seal. this seal was then changed. when the oil was again changed in late december, '06, there again was an oil leak noted from the engine. after some testing, the honda dealer first said he would have to remove the transmission to identify the source of the leak. they thought it would take about a day or so to repair. the next day, i was told he would have to order a part which would take about a week to receive. after complaining to honda usa, i was told that the problem was a cracked engine block and that they would have to replace/repair the engine with a new short block from honda. the dealer was only willing to let me use a honda civic as a loaner for my van, but after further complaints to honda usa, they arranged for me to get a rented van from enterprise. they have also agreed to give me a six year extended warranty for the vehicle. as of this day, i am awaiting the repair/return of my odyssey. *jb
