I have found 1000+ people with this exact same problem and yet cannot find that honda has done anything about it. the audio for the wireless dvd input stops after 10 - 20 minutes of watching a dvd. it just starts to buzz and fails to work. i have found threads where some honda dealerships are not charging for the fix while others are. the audio works on the wireless headphones on all other inputs (am/fm, cd, aux) just not dvd.

I have a 2006 honda odyssey and on a recent trip to california my air conditioner stopped working. i brought it into my local dealership to have it checked out and was told at the time that if it was struck by a rock it would not be covered under warranty. about an hour later the service technician contacted me to tell me that sure enough a rock has hit my a/c condenser and it would cost $700.00 to fix it because it is not covered under warranty or extended warranty. the service technician also stated that this has been happening quite often. i decide to google my a/c condenser and was not surprised to find countless forums with hundreds of people all stating the exact same story complete with the same exact comments from the technicians. my suspicions raised, this begins to sound like a rehearsed story of a rock has hit your ac condenser putting a hole in it . it would appear that honda neglected to include a simple grill in the area beneath the license plate frame that would have prevented this from occurring. the stock grill has too much space so debris are able to get in. this should be recalled by honda and fixed since it's their mistake. *tr

I have a 2006 honda odyssey lx minivan. the ac stopped working. twice. within warranty time/mileage. the dealer told me that the ac condenser was damaged by stone, causing leakage of cfc. i called honda, they claimed that they have nothing to do with it. even the front grille they installed in their newer models are for any number of reasons, not necessarily to fix this design flaw. cfc kills ozone layer. i feel bad my van dumped two tanks of cfc into the (already badly polluted) atmosphere . honda's bad design causes big time pollution, and it is a problem that can be fixed with a tiny cost added to the vehicle. honda cuts corners, and this is a bad one. it causes consumers so much, because honda wants to save a couple of bucks. other car makers may have the same issue - they do not cover fragile part in the vehicle properly. *tr

I am unaware of specific events which led to this occurrence. at the first sign of warm weather, i attempted to use the air conditioner; it would only blow warm. we took the car to the dealer on 3/17/08, and were told something had hit the condenser and rendered it inoperable. this dealer quoted $773 to repair, and we declined. we took the car to another dealer on 4/4/08, and were told the same thing. the cost to repair was $829. an online search revealed many other owners have experienced the same problem; this is obviously a design defect which should be covered by honda. *tr

The a/c started blowing hot air on 6/10/07. the dealer informed us there would be a $195 inspection fee before repairs were started. we were informed a rock hit the condenser, and repairs would not be under warranty. we were shown no evidence of the damage. the dealer implied this was a rare problem, yet insisted that american honda would not cover any part of the response, as the dealer had dealt with them on this issue in the past. not wanting to waste the $195 inspection fee, i gave the go ahead to what i found out later was an over-priced $840 repair. this is an obvious design flaw, one that american honda told me was addressed in the 2008 model redesign. i am pursuing this issue with the attorney general's office. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 honda odyssey. while driving 75 mph on a windy day, the contact heard a rattling noise. the noise intensified to a thumping sound and the contact pulled off the road. he discovered that the rear spoiler was hanging from the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who stated that the hooks failed and the spoiler could not be defective. the current mileage is 12,780 and failure mileage was 12,400.

Concerned with advertisement for the honda odyessy. commercial shows two children in a the van watching a dvd. van is parked in the driveway in apparent warm months as depicted by the clothes worn by the actors and appearence of leaves on trees, flowers, etc. commercial highlights the features of the vehicle, but it also shows a parent shutting the vehicle's doors with the kids in the vehicle watching the video. this could be misleading to some kids encouraging them to play in a vehicle. kids don't think about the dangers of heat in vehicles. *nm

I owned a 2006 honda odyssey with 5 year / 60000 mile extended warranty. on jan 4, 2010, a/c stop working and i brought the car to the dealer expecting for warranty repair. however, the dealer told me the damage was due to road hazard and will not be covered under warranty. dealer stated this is very common problem for this model year but they can not do anything about it. i called american honda customer service center and they told me the same thing. they can not repair any damages due to road hazard. i checked the internet and found many honda owner had exact problem as i did. if it a well known problem, why honda is not coming up with a fix to minimize the chance. dealer is enjoying this design flaw by charging innocent customer with more than $1300 repair. can you kindly investigate this un-ethical practice? *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 honda odyssey. the contact stated that the air conditioner in her vehicle was not working. she called the dealer and was informed that a stone or something placed a hole in the air conditioner, which caused it to leak. the manufacturer stated that the air conditioner was not covered under warranty and the contact would have to pay for the repair. the failure mileage was 29,500.

I have a 2006 honda odyssey and is still under warranty period. my a/c stopped working and i brought in to a honda dealership and was told a rock had hit the a/c condenser and it was not covered under warranty. i refused repair because i believe it has to be a design flaw for a rock to be able to enter through big gap grille and damage the condenser plus my van is still under warranty and should be repaired at no charge because of a design flaw. mine is not an isolated case as it has happened to many other honda odyssey owners who reported it online. it would cost $1000 to repair it. i called honda corporate office and talked to their supervisor jeremy rudner who refused to talk to me the second time i called in to speak to a manager. *tr

We own a 2006 honda odyssey. air-conditioner stopped working. dealership said it was a hole in the condenser caused by road debris or a rock. seems that this must be a design flaw because the extreme force it would take for a rock to puncture metal in an ac unit kids are now hot and miserable in back of van. over $800 to fix and honda warranty will not cover. times are tough for a car manufacturer to not fix a design flaw. looks like design was fixed for 2009, but ignored by manufacturer for previous model years. *tr

I have a 2006 honda odyssey and just recently my air conditioner stopped working so i brought it to my local dealership to have it checked out. about an hour later the service man came to me to tell me that a rock has hit my ac condenser and it would cost $820.00 to fix it because it is not covered under warranty or extended warranty. the service man also stated that this has been happening quite often. i decide to google my ac condenser and to my surprise pops up this forum with hundreds of people with the same story. sounds like a rehearsed story a rock has hit your ac condenser putting a hole in it . after reading other people's stories, what they have stated is that this is a manufacturer defect, the grill has to much space in between by the license plate so debris is able to get in. this should be paid for by honda since its their mistake. *tr

I believe there is a design flaw in the air conditioning system that leaves it vulnerable to road debris that can pass through the grill and pierce the condenser leading to loss of freon and no a/c. this happened to us on monday and after searching the web i see many other honda odyssey owners have experienced the same. *tr

My 2006 honda odyssey minivan developed a hole in the air conditioner condenser after just 4 months of driving (8k miles) and i was told by the dealer this was a freak accident of a pebble puncturing the condenser that was covered under bumper to bumper warranty or insurance. the warranty is supposed to cover all items that aren't normal wear and tear, but it doesn't. i have also heard countless people claim the same damage to their minivans so it seems to be a design flaw and not a freak accident. there are even special grill covers manufactured by other companies to fix the hondas problem. i feel honda should stand up their warranty. *tr

Found my a/c not working. took it to the dealer and was told that a rock must have hit the condenser and caused a pin hole. was also advised by the service writer that this was a common occurrence and was due to the condenser being mounted very low to the ground behind the bumper. i asked if there was a shield or other solution to prevent a recurrence; i was told no. i then researched the issue online and found literally hundreds of folks with the same experience. the repair cost is $700.00 with no assurance that it won't happen then moment you leave the dealership. this is a serious design flaw that honda is well aware of. in addition, they are referring folks to claim the damage on their insurance to cover the repair costs. honda has responded by adding a shield to their 2008 models.....but has done nothing for previous model year owners. *tr

I own a 2006 honda odyssey with 22k, bought new in 14 months ago. the air conditioner worked this past summer, but due to warm weather attempted to run it this weekend and only warm air came out. my wife took it to wolfchase honda in bartlett, tn. and the dealer charged her $95 to tell us that it wasn't covered under warranty due to a stone hitting the compressor. it is an obvious design flaw with the vehicle as i've found countless others now have experienced the same problem at http://www.topix.com/forum/autos/honda-odyssey/tjbopfur3svarkhcj i called american honda to put in a complaint and the rep said that she has had several of these calls. i do see that the 2008 has a new modified grille that should prevent this. i believe honda is responsible for a design flaw and should repair under warranty and do something to prevent this from happening again. *tr

Air conditioner failed in my 2006 honda odyssey, just one year after purchase and barely used. dealer claimed rock damage and not covered by the extended warranty that i purchased with the car. many other honda odyssey owners had similar problems as posted in google search. it is clearly a design problem from honda. *tr

Air conditioning on the 2006 odyssey stopped working after 10 months of ownership. we were told that debris had hit the condenser and caused a leak. since this was not considered a defect in the part it was not covered under warranty. however, it appeared we were not the only 05/06 odyssey owners with this problem. this seemed to be a design/engineering flaw that allowed for damage to occur so easily. other internet posts revealed that owners were having to engineer their own fixes to protect the condenser, so that they did not have another $800 bill. this should be honda's responsibility. *ak

Air compressor leaked freon due to small rock in condenser. car is less than one year old and well within warranty. however, honda claims that the rock in the air condenser is a road hazard, and not covered waranty. $770 later, and a few google searches about honda odyssey's with rocks in compressors, and a plethora of people are found with the same problem. try copying and pasting this link into your browser. 100 comments from different people. http://www.topix.net/forum/autos/honda-odyssey/tjbopfur3svarkhcj. *ak

I own a 2006 honda odyssey with no air conditioning. took it to the dealer, and was told a rock hit the condenser and it was not covered under warranty. i had the car less than a year. it was poor design on honda's part. there were many complaints on the same issue on the web. honda should be responsible for the poor design. *ak

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 honda odyssey. the contact attempted to activate the air conditioner and hot air began to blow. the contact left the air conditioner on for fifteen minutes and it continued to emit heat. the dealer stated that there was a hole in the condenser and it needed to be replaced. the dealer was unsure how the failure occurred, but suggested that it may have been caused by debris. the current and failure mileage were 15,662.*ak

I noticed on 4/10/07 that air conditioner (a/c) wasn't blowing cold air in the 2006 honda odessey. had my husband take it to the repair shop this morning, and we have been told that there was damage to the a/c condenser tube located in the front of the vehicle. this area was not protected by a grille, and the damage has most likely been caused by road debris. upon further research discovered that this problem occurred to many honda owners. this was not covered by warranty, and i consider it to be a design flaw. we were going to have to pay at least $600 to repair the a/c , and were not guaranteed that it will not happen again. i'm going to purchase a grill to put on the front of my car myself. *ak

I have a 2006 honda odyssey with 10 k miles and the ac condenser developed a pinhole leak with no apparent rock damage. the local honda dealer refused to cover the leak under warranty. said it was road damage and not covered. i asked for a factory rep. to look at it and they said they would not cover it. i checked the internet and found dozens of other 2005/06 odyssey vans had the same problem with similar results when they contacted honda. i hope that there is some kind of recall or class action suit. *jb

I have a 2006 honda odyssey about 4000 miles. when i stopped at parking lot i saw smokes/gas rising from the front of the car. it was freon gas leaking out of the condenser. spent $700 to fix it at the dealership. call honda customer service complain about the poor condenser protection design on the odyssey. a senior regional manager respond, he didn't think it's a design issue. and he refused to do anything about the damage. *nm

The current design of the grill allows unprotected access for road debris, i.e. small rocks, to strike the a/c condenser which allows a leak. honda does not consider this covered under warranty despite the design flaw. *nm

I purchased a brand new 2006 honda odyssey from a local dealer. i noticed sometime after the purchase the air conditioning didn't seem to be very cold. i chalked it up to the weather being hotter than normal, and my failure to not read the manual. when all else failed, i read the manual. no real help, i wasn't doing anything wrong. took it to the dealer. i was informed that a rock hit the condenser and therefore the repair wasn't covered under the warranty. i haven't even made the first payment on the van and a $700+ repair bill. i think not. honda has agreed to pay for fixing it as a one time goodwill gesture. sounds like a load of crap to me. that only addresses the current situation and not the problem. also, come to find out per the dealer, they have had this happen at least twice in the last two years. not to mention a couple of complaints on this site. not a fluke. now i'm stuck with a vehicle that i'm concerned will get another rock in the condenser leading to a huge repair bill. sounds like a big design flaw that honda needs to fix! *nm

I purchased a new 2006 honda odyssey end of april, 2006. two months later my air conditioner stopped working (it was 100 degrees outside). took it to the dealer, was told it would be $125 to diagnose the problem because we see a lot of rocks damaging air-conditioners, and it's not covered under warranty. turns out a rock impacted the condenser while i was driving, causing the air-conditioner to stop working. this is clearly a design defect, there have been other complaints documented since 2005 (year odyssey was redesigned) and numerous complaints found on the internet. problem can be fixed with a grille cover, honda refuses to fix problem and charges customers for the repair. *nm

This may not fall under safety, but i was looking for the form to file a recall investigation. sorry if this is wrong. but could you pass along... i have a 2006 honda odyssey. my wireless headphones are pure static, not working at all. i am on my 3rd stereo with honda, and now the warranty is up. i've found over 1,000 others online thus far with the exact same problem. it's a pretty big fix. i guess some dealers are not charging for the repairs because they see it so often, but most are. it is there is a module that takes the dvd audio output and transits the signal over infrared to the headphones. this infrared module was the problem. anyway- i would appreciate a recall being initiated on this, as so many are having the exact same issue. i've had problems before with the 6 disc changer just quitting. as i'm driving it starts rapidly spitting out all 6 discs, which to me is a safety deal. that was changed out 2x, and now- this. something needs to be done with this. *tr
