I have a 2006 honda odyssey ex-l van. i now have 101,000 miles on it but ever since 48,000 miles, i have had difficulty with the driver side sliding door. it started with the buzzer going off as though we had not shut the door. the interior light was blinking on and off and it showed the door was open on the dash. we tried shutting it manually and with the automatic switch to no avail. we followed a protocol off the internet that involved several steps that got it to stop but at random times it would happen again. i had a friend who is a mechanic look at it and he suggested replacing the electrical components involved at great cost. the dealer finally told me there is a switch on the dash to turn off the buzzer but the door does not shut all the way. the back of the door sticks out a bit and makes it so it won't lock. two other people i know have the same problem with their van and had it fixed at great cost. given that the door is not all the way closed, it concerns me to no end when i have passengers on that side. the indoor light continues to come on as well. i have seen several complaints about this on several blogs. it seems to me this should be a huge safety concern to honda but they have been aloof about fixing it and don't believe they are responsible.

My 2006 honda odyssey's electrical system completely died. i had two dog crates in the back of the minivan with dogs in them. the doors had been locked prior to the failure occuring. once the electrical system died, i had no way to open the tailgate in order to get the dogs out of the car. i was unable to reach the emergency release because it was blocked by the dog crates. there is no outside key access for the tailgate nor a manual release in the driver's compartment.

Tl- the contact owns a 2006 honda odssey touring. today, he depress the automatic switch on his keys to open the tailgate, went to get something out, the trunk started to beep, then the tailgate came crashing down, he used his hands to keep it from crashing into him competely. he said the tailgate strut failed. he called the manufacturer and was given reference # n12010-06-2501145 and was told there is a recall for the 2005 odssey touring for the tailgate butnot the 2006, they have not gotten enough complaints to have a recall on the 2006 and to call nhtsa to file a complaint. the failure and current mileage was 81,300...dwh

2006 honda odyssey. sliding door has been stiff intermittently (which we lubricated) and on a few occasions door would not close until warmed up in garage. on june 5th, 2010 husband opened door and door fell completely off track and would have landed on ground if he had not caught it. contacted honda canada told hadn't heard of problem. 15 minute internet search reveals 10 others with same year and model who have suffered same incident. took it to dealer will replace the roller/hinge which broke- approx $230.00 to fix (not covered under extended warranty). huge safety concern that this part can break and let car door fall down-imagine it had been on one of my kids aged 5 and 6.

I would like to report a safety issue with the honda odyssey minivan. the metal hinges on the driver and passenger door do a terrible job at keeping the doors open. i make sure that the door is in the detente position. it doesn't matter. a slight gust of wind or if the car is on an incline, the doors will slam shut on their own. itt smashed & broke a bone in my left hand. it slammed close on my shins before that many times. i am frightened for fear of severe injury to some body part being slammed into the door of guests and being sued. i make a point to have my whole body leaning on the door if it needs to stay open for some purpose now. this is really a safety issue for the whole family. i know other owners have the same experience. i have never driven another car that i was afraid the front door would slam shut on me - without warning - before this. thank you - lynda campbell

Manual sliding doors broke. both manual sliding doors broke within one month of each other. cables apparently snapped which prevented the doors from being opened from the inside or outside. had to have cables on both doors replaced. an expensive safety defect.

The sliding door of my odyssey (touring) model will not close all the way. similar to another complaint, the door gets close to being closed, but will not close either electronically or manually. the van is able to be driven with the sliding door open. this first happen at only 29k miles and continued to happen periodically until i took it to a honda dealership who could fix the problem. the service person at the dealership (that was able to fix it) showed me that it was a design flaw of the center roller for the sliding door. this is a part located at the rear of the door attaching it to the van's body. there are two plastic round parts that act like ball bearing rollers, and they become out of place causing the door's alignment to be off. when this happens the door not to close all the way. the dealership service person said if honda spent $8 more on making these round parts metal instead of plastic, the problem would not have occurred. the rest of the center roller part is made of metal. he said that one odyssey a week comes to the dealership with this problem of the door not being able to close due to the center roller. *tr

Internal door handles on the sliding doors on the 2006 honda odyssey frequently stick. consequently the automatic side sliding doors don't fully latch or securely lock. this still is a persistent problem on a vehicle that was purchased brand new. the issues were brought to honda's attention during the warranty period. they attempted to solve the problem with additional lubrication, but the problems still persisted. now once the vehicle is out of warranty they have informed us that they are not going to do anything further to investigate the cause, or to eradicate the problem (as of about 12-10-09), and thus we now bear full financial responsibility for any and all repairs. *tr

Back passenger door won't completely close on my 2006 honda odyssey (touring). electronically, it gets very close, but won't shut completely. i can't manually do it either. i took it in to the dealership and was told it would cost almost $200 to even look at the problem. i cannot afford that. *tr

Our honda odyssey is equipped with automatic sliding doors. my 3 year old daughter got her fingers caught in the rear part of the slider and the door closed all the way. it appears there are no safety features as we thought in the rear part of the door. this to me seems to be a design flaw. *jb

Dt*: the contact stated that the shortness of the steering column creates fatigue while driving 65 mph for prolonged hours on normal road conditions. the vehicle's doors cannot open without pressing the unlock button first which creates a delay in case of emergency conditions. the vehicle's doors will not lock if one of the doors are not closed. the contact expressed that the rear windshield wiper only works intermittently which creates a rear vision problem.

If side sliding doors are closed electrically they can not be opened unless the transmission is in park or neutral with brake pedal depressed. if an accident occurs where the driver is incapacitated and cannot move the shift lever to the park or neutral position , the doors cannot be opened manually since they are held closed by the electrical assembly which operates them. even if the driver is not incapacitated he/she must have the presence of mind to move the shift lever to the appropriate position before the sliding doors can be opened. to not have a manual door over ride prevents the rear passengers from emergency egress! i consider this a serious safety defect and should either be corrected or a warning should be plainly visible to the driver to disable the electrical door system if passengers are in the rear seats. *nm
